Clement Thread

As most of you know, Jeff Clement was pulled from Tacoma's game today in the 3rd inning after hitting a double in the first. It does not appear to be injury or sickness related per Divish. Knock yourselves out. Updates as available.

My thought is that it's either a trade or a callup and we won't find out which until Wednesday. Fun!

My first update is that Wakamatsu doesn't have a damn clue. Which probably lessens the likelihood of a callup.

Second update: He's gone. Clement is gone. We just don't know the return.

Commenters at both USSM and MLBTR are saying that we got Jed Lowrie from the Sox

Don’t find that at all believable, but whatever.

USSM is broken.

Something must be happening.

Or not.
Huh.

I got the message the first time. Maybe it just took a while to load.

That would be interesting
I think they were lying.

The rumor was Clement, Washburn, and Lowe for Lowrie. I think it’s made-up.

When Clement was pulled, Jarrod Washburn was pitching in the 4th inning. If he got traded at that

time, why would he continue to pitch till the end of 7th?

That's a typo

Jeffie has been traded for a bottle of Lowry’s salt.

Random commenters generally don't get information before reputable or semi-reputable sources
They referenced MLB Network

and if they actually reported it, it would have long since been reported by other sources.

I've been watching MLB network all night and they haven't said anything.
This doesn't even pass the rosterbation test. The Red Sox need a shortstop badly. Why the hell would they trade Lawrie?
Three-way deal in which Tampa tosses in Jason Bartlett to Boston and gets nothing in return

yay I can be like MLBtraderumors commenters!

Speaking of Jason Bartlett, is Bartlett and Garza for Young quickly approaching Bedard levels of awfulness for the Twins?
Pretty close.
Still, it's not like it was obviously bad from the start.

At least, not obviously that bad.

Just add "my sources tell me..."
Does one's ass count as a source?
as long as

it’s properly documented

If he is dealt, good for him. It is obvious he is not going to get his shot here.
Hopefully he goes somewhere that will give him a chance
Darn it.

I come to LL and on the front page I see “Clement Traded.”

My heart literally skipped a beat, and then I re-read the headline.

Same here

Then I read it as “CLEMENT THREAT!”

Does the timing preclude the possibility he was traded with Washburn?
That's a possibilty.
There was a good half hour in between but I don't know what that means
Finally a reason to talk about him
I saw his last two homeruns and his first major league error!
Bait?
I love you Graham
.

Huh...

Sorta funny that it’s Rob Johnson sitting next to him…

Saying this is rude considering that Greyham's favorite player is Jeff Clement
Maybe they should trade him to the Ducks so he can get his ring
I find it unlikely that the Ducks will win the Stanley Cup next year and Clement doesn't have the knees to play hockey
Well you're a giant assleper
He doesn't even have the knees to return your favor
It's ok I'm resigned to the fact that he could never catch
He could take up cricket, maybe?
I was talking to Jeff Sullivan on the telephone and he told me he heard that Clement got traded for Cody Ransom and Brent Lillibridge
I would spend months making fun of Cody Ransom's van accident
I tried to start a Cody Ransom chant at Yankee Stadium two days ago and only 5 people joined me even after Cody hit two doubles

And only three of us gave him standing ovations. New Yankee Stadium fans suck

It's funny because you're implying that at some point

in time Yankees fans didn’t suck.

Will this be like the monkey trade where it's not announced til 11.00 tomorrow?
This late-night trade rumor'ing is really mean to those of us on the east coast. How could I possibly sleep?
truth, going from the

mariners win to watching the indians attempt a comeback to trade rumor blog surfing makes for a vicious cycle at 1:30 am with work in 8 hours

If you sleep, you get to wake up and find out what happened immediately

instead of sitting around waiting for an announcement.

That’s my plan at least.

I live in Boston and totally agree

I hate it here.

But then it's such a let down when you log straight on to Lookout Landing

and see that “Clement Thread” is still at the top of the page.

I leave the country in 12 hours for a three-week trip to Ethiopia.

I feel your pain. If this story doesn’t break in the next 8 hours, I will not know until mid-August.

No access to the internet at all?

That must be a horrible position to be in.

Um, telephone?
Nothing. Nada.

Potentially an internet cafe after reaching Addis, and one when leaving on the 16th. Nothing in between. We’re staying out in a small town in the north.

On the bright side,

If we have a miracle August, I will come home to something wonderful.

Coincidently, Rick Steves was just talking this weekend about buying/renting phones in-country

such as this

I love this site.

I’ll hunt this down while in Addis. Thanks for the advice; we’ll look into it.

Just remember that "incoming international calls are free" means that the person who is calling you is paying - probably ALOT.
Hey, check out international calling cards before you leave. They are not all equal

Many are very regional friendly for say Africa, but punish you if you make a call in Mexico. Read the fine print, beware of connection penalties, the like.

Hmm

more

That ain't my parents Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom. Yikes
If you contact the US Embassy in Addis

it’s a possibility that they’ll hook you up with some internet access. We have a library here with a couple of terminals that we’ve let wayward Americans use from time to time.

This trip will probably be far more exciting than any trades that go down.
You have weird priorities
If we get Brignac, though, scratch everything I said because holy crap.
So I've been trying to follow this but I think I've lost track of Clement's status over the last month or so.

Is he still physically capable of catching? Has he returned to catching recently?

Sorry for being off the ball with this.

Probably not physically capable of it but has been cleared to start trying again recently
My sources tell me that As most of you know, Jeff Clement was pulled from Tacoma's game today in the 3rd inning after hitting a double in the first, and it does not appear to be injury or sickness related.
Did he hustle to second?
He's white so he can't not hustle
Well, white and not small
...

grission?

So grission means 'not deserving of death by flaying' yes?
hey, felix, throw a fastball
this was a better comeback last year
Nope.

Practice for when he plays for the Rays.

Or maybe the Indians?
I love our lazy players.
Love(d). Welcome to Seattle Evan Longoria!
Trade Rumor Sites Are Like Weathermen

Mostly wrong but we still keep surfing to them.

I should start one up on the side.

Clement and Washburn to Minnesota for Nick Punto and R.A. Dickey

I wouldn't start one of those sites.

It takes a shitload of work to be that wrong all the time.

Wakamatsu weighs in on Clement rumors...

Here’s what manager Don Wakamatsu said: “I just found out. I’m sitting here trying to get out of a four-game losing streak. If anything happens, I trust our organization in Jack Zduriencik’s hands. I don’t know any details beyond he was pulled,”

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/marinersblog/2009555294_tacomas_jeff_clement_pinch-hit.html

You would think he would get word if Clement was being called up..

Wish we didn’t have to wait until tomorrow morning to find out – but yeah, it’s looking like we are.

Trade rumors would be so annoying as a manager
If Washburn brings back any value.

Then Armstrong will come out looking like a hero.

Nut----->Blind squirrel
I'm hearing it's for LaRoche and Hudson
That would be rad
Damn, I was gonna make this joke and decided not to...
Anyone watching ESPN?
No. Why?
Nothing. I just listened to anon commentor on baker's blog saying ESPN announced a Halladay trade and I don't get ESPN.
Nothing about Halladay on ESPN recently...
Psssh, ESPN won't report it unless he's traded to the Yankees or Red Sox.
Talking about the Mets game now.
The anticipation is killing me!
I hear we're trading him to the Mariners for Rob Johnson
Well wouldn't that be ideal.
I thought it was Clement to the Royals

for Yuni and Willie … I hear the M’s are in need of some options at SS

Does anyone have Channel 179 on comcast?

I didn’t realize you could watch the DJs from KJR on there.

I'm "not authorized" for channel 179 :(
Only Softy.

of all the guys to put on tv …

I don't really listen to KJR that much.

Is he not that good of a DJ?

Not exactly the smartest guy around.
Over-loud, over-dramatic, over-enthusiatic ....
I think it's funny how sports journalists are somehow synonymous with sports knowledge. You don't expect Brian Williams to really know a shitload about national news and history - just report it.

These guys on KJR are entertainers, and nothing more.

"You don't expect Brian Williams to really know a shitload about national news and history "

you don’t?

Brian Doesn't Know News would be his screen name
I think a news journalist like that would obviously know a lot, but I don't think he'd know it necessarily a lot more than a person who watches Brian Williams report the news everyday.

Okay, BW would know more than the viewers, but my point is, it doesn’t make him a genius, he got the job for his reporting skills, not his knowledge is my main argument. Do we expect Stuart Scott to know a lot about ANYTHING? I really hope not.

I mean, he does read a teleprompter.
The guys on KJR are hired for their opinions.

When your opinion is wrong and stupid, then you’re not very good at your job.

No, they're hired for their on-air personalities.
Are you saying that the guys on KJR do have great opinions?
Some of them are smarter than the others.

When you claim something that’s wrong as a fact, like Softy often does, then you’re going to look stupid.

Its really Mitch that I can't stand. But that had less to do with sports and more to do with being such an annoying show.
And no, I don't really believe that it's all about on-air personality.

Otherwise people like Dori Monson wouldn’t have jobs.

I actually think Mitch is the best interviewer on local sports radio
The rightness of an opinion doesn't matter on radio.

It’s how loudly you state it

Newscaster and Sportscenter anchors are different.
I did major in broadcast production and know for a fact that everybody who was majoring in broadcast journalism was a complete idiot.

And they won’t all be sports anchors.

I agree, I don't think people in journalism are the smartest people.
What about me? I'm a double in journalism and broadcasting?

I guess that means periods of brilliance offset by utter retardation?

Nah...I forgot I don't do shit in school.
Sorry if a struck a chord there.

I said that without really thinking how I would offend someone. But from what I’ve heard journalism is a pretty bullshit major. But then again, business also doesn’t seem to be as rigorous as computer science or engineering.

No, I was kidding around, you've VERY justified in saying that.

I really don’t do anything. My friends who are engineers do more homework in a week than I do in a semester and that is 0% exaggeration.

Yes.

I have heard that in communications you don’t even have to write papers. That would be so nice.

I was a print journalism major, and I wanted to think that all the broadcast people were complete idiots, and it's just not true.
I'm guessing that they won't make it to the biggest stage in their field though if they're dumb.
On the ones that weren't sports.
I have to disagree.

I remember there was one guy in the journalism side of the class out of about 15 or 20 when I was graduating and everyone was sure he’d be the one to make it. Because he was smart? No. Because he had a voice like Stone Philips. It’s all about how you look and sound and are able to read a teleprompter.

Do you ever have an argument based outside of your own subjective experiences?
You're very objective about the Angels.
What have I said that you would label as objective?
You objectify Maicer in your avatar.
Don't you just want to lick the space between his eyebrows?
No, but then again I'm weird like that.
Would you lick the space between his thighbrows?
.
I remember there was one guy in the journalism side of the class out of about 15 or 20 when I was graduating and everyone was sure he’d be the one to make it.

Wow.

Wow what?

Do you want me to tell you how it works? You think I went to a small school with an unknown school of journalism?

That wasn't my point so get that fucking know out of your undies.
Knot, even.

YEAH! I got your back, ac.

Whats your point then?

Im honestly curious.

My point is that making broad assertions based on that small a scope of experience is dumb
It's not like I'm looking at someone who goes 10-for-20 to start the season and believe he's going to hit .500.

I was just giving an opinion based on my own experiences from going to a big journalism school and explaining that the kid that stood out the most was not the smartest, just looked and sounded the most like a real news anchor. NBC would never hire a really really smart ugly person over one who looked and sounded great but was an idiot. They do have writers.

Oh brother

You’re Ken Rosenthal aren’t you?

Bearskin I thought we had been getting along.
I get upset when people pull their pedigrees out
I wasn't trying to do that. But I read his comment as "so you went to a shitty school?"
You all went to shitty schools compared to Attractive Nuisance.

So shush.

He went to Stanford right?
Really I'm only invoking his name because it would be douchey to bring up mine.

Oh shit I’m a douche.

So the one guy from your graduating class is going to take over when one of the 3 big nightly news anchors retires?

In 20 or so years?

That's his opinion, so it must be true.
How does what I say come off as "my opinions are true and final" anymore than anyone elses?

If anything, I’ve mostly come off as “sorry if this sounds ignorant but…”

IM SO SORRY I SAID SOMETHING BAD ABOUT ERICK AYBAR! Please forgive me.

Yeah. If you plan to hang around here, you might need

to develop a thicker skin. Everybody else has. Well, I haven’t needed to because everybody loves me and I’m better.

My skin is thick. I used caps for comedic effect.
How the hell should I know?

I just know what the opinions of the people in the class were. And while I prepare for the hurling of insults I’ll just say that I went to WSU.

So did another LLer and he seems to disagree with you vehemently
Well I think its fair to say that its okay to disagree and it also doesn't necessarily make my opinion false.

It really is just my opinion based on my experiences and if you asked most of the people I went to school with, they would agree. But maybe it was just a bad year at Murrow.

So did I. I was an editor at the Evergreen for four years.

In a general sense, it’s true, the broadcast majors tended to be the more vain people who were less interested in actual journalism. But I still knew a lot of people in the broadcast program who were dedicated to doing great work and just thought broadcast was a better medium for their careers. And that medium tends to require more . . . non-journalistic values, if you will.

Five years later, it’s looking like they might have been wise, as furious as it makes me to say that.

I get where you’re going. And I tend to have a pretty negative outlook toward broadcast journalism, trust me. But there are still a lot of good people there. The world just forced them into a medium that . . . OK I’m rambling. Go Cougs!

First off, Go Cougs

Secondly, I just found that most of the people that truly cared about journalism, majored in Production or Print Journalism. But the Broadcast Journalism majors reminded me a lot of the people who I see everyday in my new town. That would be Los Angeles and those people would be Actors. They have a look and they want to use it to their advantage and it’s rarely because they are the most amazing actors of all-time.

And also

Its not that I think everyone in journalism, whether it be on TV or Radio is an idiot. I just think it’s wrong for so many to people believe that because you are on TV or Radio that makes you smart on the subject. I should know, for most of my life, I thought this to be true. There are very few people on ESPN left that I trust.

Hahahaha

That Eddie Guardado/Tim Leyland incident was pretty funny.

wut
Eddie Guardado..

..Threw behind the batter and Jim Leyland started mouthing off to him and Eddie looked at him and started yelling and making that “yap yap yap” hand gesture.

I love him and always will.
Watching Buehrle tonight, _again_,

Watching Ichiro get the walk off,
Watching the team celebrate and the fans at Safeco get into it,
Watching the rumors swirl as trade deadline approaches,
Watching as everyone sits and waits to unwrap what Z has in store for us,
Man, I love baseball! And we’re not even in contention anymore!

So since we've got a while

Why is Escobar rated so much higher as a prospect than Brignac? I understand Escobar is an elite defender while Brignac is merely very good. Escobar is a year younger, but their offensive statistics are similar. Is it simply Escobar’s stolen base potential that puts him over the top? Or do scouts just see something in his offensive development that will make him a star?

Being an elite defender is huge and from what I understand Escobar has plenty of potential at the plate
Especially at shortstop.
Doesn't Escobar also have great speed?
Because he is black?
Hispanic, but let's not split hairs.
Yes.

From what I can tell…

Brignac-good speed, great defense
Escobar-great speed, elite defense

I suppose that’s what separates them, I just wouldn’t expect one to be untouchable and the other one obtainable.

Brignac's not really a great shortstop
Could Escobar be the next Betancourt?
No, his body type is so skinny. He will never grow into Betancourt's size.
Yeah Yuni was a lardass when he came over
Bartlett is a lot better than Hardy.

And around for longer.

I still can't believe Jason Bartlett was acquired for his defense and all of a sudden the Rays got that magnificent offense too.
That happened to us too though.
Love the Gutz!
No but he's got great blow.
I think you answered your own question

Hes a better defender. Hes a year younger.

I read somewhere (Prospect Insider?) that Brignac could have a higher offensive ceiling.

Interesting. I’d take either one.

I was surprised at how gung-ho Churchill was about Brignac - he'd rather have him than Escobar.
I would gladly take either.

Brignac probably has the offensive edge, but let’s not overlook how important a good defender at shortstop can be. Escobar gives me a boner.

Nomar, A-Rod, and Jeter all seemed to change the national perception of what a shortstop is supposed to be offensively.

Before that, it seems that shortstop and offense never went in the same sentence, you took what you could get. And guys like Ozzie Smith and Omar Vizquel are hall of famers for a reason.

I think this is more of a fair-weather baseball fans point of view.

Still accurate though.

I just don't think as many people cared if a shortstop hit .250 with no power in 1981.

Part of how the game has changed.

Right about the time Cal Ripken came up

I’ve always heard his name come up as the prototype big SS, when this kind of conversation comes around. He’s really tall. And he has really dreamy blue eyes.

Picturing him as Andrus makes me biased
I KNOW
GOD I'M SO EXCITED
Enjoy yourself.

He looks like he's lying under someone, looking in vain to escape.
Why does he look so dirty?
He is a Latino
Hey hey, don't be a bigot

he could also be black.

Going over their FanGraphs and Cube stats and some BA reports, Alcides Escobar's ceiling seems to be similar to Yunel Escobar's.

On another note, holy crap I can’t believe the Braves ever even let rumors swirl that they were trading Yunel Escobar earlier this month (Bobby Cox fed up with his head-case-ness, etc.). That would’ve been absolutely insane.

New Info: "I don't think we're selling, I think we're going out to get somebody."

From Divish, However, I talked with a player, who seemed pretty certain that a deal would be announced tomorrow. And that player, said, “I don’t think we’re selling, I think we’re going out to get somebody.”

http://blogs.thenewstribune.com/mariners/2009/07/28/jeff_clement_removed_from_rainiers_game_

Player won't know anything so I wouldn't put much stock in this
If that player is Ichiro, then I think he would know something.
Thank you for your input
It's probably just Griffey fucking with everyone.
He's part of the problem, so I don't think Jack Z will tell him anything.
STOP COMMENTING OUT OF YOUR ASS ABOUT EVERYTHING JESUS FUCKING CHRIST
At least mix up the orifice you use once in a while.
Are you experiencing a case of the crazies?
OK, I am banning myself, enjoy.
Where "info" is anonymous player very likely talking out his ass...
Getting a good shortstop is getting somebody.
A player probably thinks

“We’re giving up a prospect, therefore, we must not be selling.”

That being said, I’d be surprised if this isn’t a package deal.

I agree.

Why trade just Clement unless it was a strictly need-for-need type swap but you’d still be expecting to get a young shortstop or pitcher maybe with lots of club control remaining. But not for a major league vet. It would make more sense if he was to sweeten a deal on a return for Washburn.

Getting a major league qualtiy shortstop that we can have for several years is both.
You have to sell to receive!
So uh Jarrod Washburn is still a Mariner.
I'm shocked and a little annoyed too.
Still have 3 more days to trade him. Why the rush?
A ton of reasons for christ's sake
Huh?

I’d hold on to Washburn as long as possible. Let Lee and Halladay get traded and all of a sudden he becomes the “jewel”.

Except then when one or both of them don't get traded oh fuck our asses.
Then were in the exact same position

we are now.

Except for no trades allowed anymore.
I think Jack probably has told other clubs that Washburn is a fine plan B.

So he’ll get the call on Thursday night and I don’t think we’ll be left holding the bag. If anything it’ll help us land a sweeter deal.

I agree with this.

Also, you have to talk to many teams, and Z only recently decided to shop him. It could take a few days to even get all the offers on the table.

That's what we're doing
When the diamond rings are gone, you don't get excited about Cubitz Zirconia
Slightly more rare than glass
Cubitz, of course, being the Cubic Zirconia you get in Chinatown
No...

just no. Diamonds and cubic zirconias are effectively unlimited. They are expensive because they are rare, yes, but you can always find another one. Not so with starting pitching.

Not true.

People can make a lot of babies.

No...

just no. There are 6 billion people in this world, and every one can be a starting pitcher if you don’t care about the quality of their pitches.

Double amputees?
Paraplegics?
Stephen Hawking?
If they legalize the spitball, he'll be fine.
Throw with their feet, mouth....

No where in the rulebook does it say you have to throw with your hands.

But you do care...

I cant even tell if youre serious or not.

Take a deep breath, and count to 10 before you make your next comment
Always best to get things done as soon as possible, Also, It's a good thing GMZ doesn't procrastinate with Lookout Landing.
Or you could think for two seconds before posting

That would help answer about 3/4ths of your questions

Gosh I hope we're trading for Hanley
Clement for Pujols, straight up.
There's no way the Cardinals make that trade

Pujols is the face of the franchise and they like Molina too much

Oh, yeah, I forgot about Molina being there.

It’s probably Clement for Fielder.

No way he displaces Griffey at DH
Griffey clearly moves to left field in this scenario.
This is gonna be a real let down when it's Clement+ for Jack Wilson (or something like that).
I don't think we'd do that
I'm ever pessimistic.
Just went over to Komo 4 news...

and it appears it was really hot today.

There is an off-topic post on the sidebar for this type of thing and also no fucking shit
We've got to trade Wlad at some point too

Wonder if he could be involved

I bet the Nationals are calling
Didn't the Nyjer Morgan deal make it clear?

The Nats aren’t loading up on outfielders that can’t catch any more. Rizzo seems to actually have a clue for a guy who fell backwards into the job.

SNELL!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!! WANT SO BAD!!!!
DOUBLE PLEASE!
I predict this will be an annoying-ass thread to catch up on in the morning
No trades will happen and you will only have missed 200 comments of people bitching at each other

and rosterbating.

The MLB trading deadline is the most exciting and most bullshit time of year.
Winter meetings, because you have more possible buyers.
And there's none of that baseball game crap to mess it up.
Perhaps some gifs will liven it up
It's not already?
I have been around for all of it so far
I just buzzed it. It's pretty easy to figure out with subthreads to ignore
So wait a minute

is everybody assuming that a deal was worked out during the first three innings or the Rainiers’ game? Because if there’s a nearly agreed upon deal, Clement does not need to start, god knows there are enough guys ready to take his place. Or did the Phillies, Red Sox, Angels, Rangers and Tigers have a scout at the game and needed to see him hit a double?

Probably not worked out

but if a deal was being seriously discussed, I’d pull the guy from the game to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself again.

I get how you can be an LAA fan and hang out in the gamethreads

but the fact that you’re in this thread as long as you apparently have been makes you signature hilarious

He collects figurines, giant Hummel collection. It's fabulous
Laughing out loud

it’s not chatspeak if I know how to spell laughing, right?

No, it's just LLLJ instead
Dammit there are too many rules here for a board
It isn't a board.

This is the comment section of a blog.

I don't even know why I'm still hanging out, slim chance of a midnight announcement I guess.

Pretty slim chance. Cracking wise wears kind of thin

Because it is too hot to sleep.
CRACKING WISE NEVER WEARS THIN
I COULD EASILY PROVE YOU WRONG
TRY ME, CRANKYPANTS
Bedard is 8 inches of limp dick.

Impressive as hell, but it’s limp.

Holy shit it feels good to unload that wise crack
Well now I'm just confused.
And what the hell are you confused about?

It’s 8 inches of cock!

But you can't pitch with limp cock.
Captain Literal, commander of A troop of the Literal Brigade!

Hey, I know. Move down range and draw fire!

Well now I'm just confused.
Actually I really like Bedard, and had ridiculous hopes for Bedard/Felix/Morrow

Felix has performed up to my ridiculous expectations, the other two not so much.

I wan't to ask Bedards curve to summer ball. But I'll know it'll stand me up.
You could lay waste to cities with 8 inches of dick

Choke a horse! But no, it just lays there limp. Mocking you with it’s very existence, unable to perform

Kermit Wilson, you shut up right now.
And flag'd
Figures. That's why I've been sitting on that wise crack for so long

Stupid abender and his dares

Kidding. I ate it up.
Mostly I didn't want to hurt rc's feelings
Because there isn't enough speculation already

I believe I just heard ESPN tease their commercial break with Lowrie for 3 Mariners.

Don’t hate me when I’m horribley wrong please.

The best thing would be if they somehow traded Griffey.
And then watch Boston go back to juggling 2 DHs
I just never saw much I liked in Jed Lowrie.

We’ve toiled through Jeff Clement long enough to see him succeed in Boston.

"to have to see him succeed in Boston"*
This would be sad, to see the Sox Nation flock Safeco as usual, but this time in their newly minted Clement T-shirts and Jerseys

And probably not know where he came from.

Well I guess if you don't like Jed Lowrie that's good enough.

Hey guys, Kenny Knows Sports from LookoutLanding doesn’t like Jed Lowrie. I know it’s a crazy good deal for us, we’re only giving up Shawn Kelley, but fuck it, call the deal off.

I would actually be kind of sad if they traded Shawn Kelley
Why?
Because Shawn Kelley is awesome?
Why is Shawn Kelley awesome?

3-page essay please.

Throws strikes, something that no one else in the bullpen does.
He's been a well above average pitcher his entire minor league career
Throws the ball fast

Throws the ball over the plate
Throws the ball fast and over the plate in a way that batters don’t like

Here's hoping that he doesn't become the next Mark Lowe.
This is the most underrated characteristic of pitching.
Hmm.

1. Knows how to throw ball.
1a. Uses arm to throw ball rather than head or other extremity.
2. Throws regulation baseball.
3. Throws laterally, rather than straight up or straight down.
3a. Throws in the general vicinity of the batter, rather than at fans/third base ump/etc.

Pitching has many underrated characteristics.

Giving pitches a cool, scary name like the Dolphin.
Nothing's scarier than a dolphin.
Anteater
Possum
Bumble bee
Broken condom?
Leave your origins out of this.
Depending on the person, the scary can vary
Burned.

Much like what happens when a condom breaks!

Agreed. That was the scariest spring break I've ever experienced.
Dolphins like fishsticks.
Mice
Silastic Armourfiends of Striterax
Giant Japanese hornets.
He likes Shawn Kelley.
I went to a game at Fenway last year and Lowrie hit two doubles. Best player EVER. Trade the farm for him.
It's the 3 for 1 deal as teased above that I was not keen on.
And I feel like any Boston or New York farm product gets over-hyped just like the major league teams players do. So I'm always skeptical.
Pics or didn't happen.
Does that make any sense at all?

They need a shortstop as well, I thought.

It doesn't
Thought so

only way we can deal with Boston is if it’s a three way, it seems.

Theo Epstein is into the freaky shit
He's into gorilla costumes.
As long as whatever trade occurs nets Mike Sweeney a golden retriever puppy, I'm happy
To make him feel better about getting DFA'd.
They have bad backs!
Mike Sweeney IS a golden retriever puppy.
Hey sweeney is our new first base coach.... maybe?

we can put a little pen near the tarp so he can also play with the dog and babysit the other players kids

CHURCHILL

says Clement was traded in an approximately five-player deal, and it doesn’t look like Jack Z is selling.

We’ll see…

Oh we're so fucked
Is it a three way?
So you don't trust Zdureincik yet, eh?
Yeah that's what he meant all right
Yes. How. Did. tait644. Know?
Approximately?

I wonder where he gets this number from. Did someone tell him it was between 4 and 6 players?

That's my word.

He says “as many as” five players.

It's four players

a torso, one arm and two legs but both are left. Head tbnl.

"Oh hey, Jason, Clement's been traded. All we know was that it was between one and 12 players. Just say some random

number and we’ll be okay!"

We also know that there will be players leaving the Mariners and players coming into the Mariners
That second part is speculation.
Ew.
Hey, that was pretty clever. Good job.
It works mainly because I was not expecting it from him.
I've read enough of Stephen King's books to know the other way that that word can be used.
What does that mean, Jack Z is not selling?

I don’t get that.

And who's to say that with this move he may be buying

in order to sell someone else off later?

Link please.
Just check the comments in Churchill's lastest thread.
.
Rule of thumb,

if Churchill reports/relays/talks/whatever about it, leave it on his site.

Jeff is going to be so disappointed.
I'm here and inclined to believe that Churchill is on to something here
This is one instance where I'd tend to trust his source

He may report every little piece of crap his source rumors to happen, but at this time we have other information to support his claim, so his source may very well be correct

I will not confirm his details from from what I am hearing he has the right idea
Can you tell us if we'll be happy or sad?
What color eyes does the guy we're getting have?
Racist! (kind of)
Mostly white.
Leave it to us to pick some Goth kid wastoid.
That's what I like to hear
But if we are not selling I might be sad.
Let me make one thing clear:

Outside of Clement and one other Mariner minor league who you will probably not miss, nobody has any names right now. Nobody. Anything you hear is just speculation. All we can say is that we’re trading Clement and at least one other guy.

OH GOD JAMIE BURKE IS FINALLY LEAVING
Aw, he was the little engine that could.
That would make me verrry sad
CLEMENT AND LAHAIR FOR LOWRIE, BUCHHOLZ AND LESTER

WOW JACK Z IS A GENIUS!!

Well since this is clearly out in the open and confirmed by non-Churchill sources...

I’m also supposed to love this trade FWIW.

But, yeah, here’s the lowdown as best as I can decipher:

It’s pretty clear Clement + at least one other minor-leaguer is involved.
Since it’s minor leaguers and not (as is known right now) anyone on the M’s MLB roster, it appears to be more of a “buy” move than a “sell” move.
Baker wouldn’t be surprised if Morrow’s involved.
The players we get in return should fit the mold of what Jack’s traded for thus far and it doesn’t sound likee rentals. I.E. younger guys with some MLB experience but under team control for at least a little while longer.

The rest of the details are pretty well concealed.

It’ll likely shock the hell out of all of us…

Is there any confirmation as to who the other team might be? Is it really Boston and if not which contending team is really in need of a Jeff Clement?

Its harder to tell because Jeff Clement can not play so many positions.

Graham would tell you otherwise.
Or not (m)any positions at all
I don't see what position players Boston has that we would want that fit that mold

Unless it is Lowrie, but that doesn’t make sense for Boston. If it’s Boston, I’d almost certainly guess it’s pitching

Im going to count Buchholz before I go to sleep tonight.
Clay, Taylor, done.
-Taylor, -Clay, 0
I know as much as y'all know...
No

There is no good idea of who the other team might be.

It is definitely one of the other 29 MLB teams.

Unless you can trade with NPB teams now.

HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS JUST GOT DARVISH
Ha ha...that'd be neato.
I have zero knowledge as to the validity of JAC's latest rumor
Okay, but how not selling are we?

It’s not like we’re bringing in a rent a player or something, right?

From the Churchill wagon

“I have heard it is Jeff Clement and Brandon Morrow for Scott Kazmir.”

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO PLEASE NO
Agreed
Rick Peterson says he can fix Scott Kazmir in ten minutes.
Can he fix his contract?
If he goes back to being good Kazmir his contract is aces.

I think it’s well within the realm of possibility that he does.

Also couldn't Safeco Field help him as well?
Yes.

Although the Mariners defense isn’t as good as Tampa’s

Could it be pretty close if the M's got Escobar, hypthetically, and Beltre comes back?
And Bedard is fixed!

And Griffey hits like 50 bombs.

That helps their defense?
Sorry

Spaced. I glanced at the “pretty close” and assumed the discussion was about the Ms possibly getting back into competing for the AL West.

Yeah but that's a massive hypothetical if Morrow and Clement are going to Tampa/Cle/Wherever
And I mean massive as in there is no way we get Escobar if Morrow and Clement are going to Tampa/Cle/Wherever
Hopefully in that case Brignac would be the consolation.
Come on, tell me you get the reference.
Seriously, it's one of the greatest laugh lines in the past 10 years of baseball.
I want to know!

I’m very curious.

Jim Duquette traded a young prospect named Scott Kazmir to the Rays for Victor Zambrano.

Zambrano had been terrible before, was terrible at the time, and would be even worse in the future. Kazmir was, of course, perceived even then to be the future star he would later become. But Duquette pulled the trigger in large part because the Mets’ pitching Rick Peterson famously assured him that “I can fix Zambrano in ten minutes.”

Thus was the worst trade in the last 30 years of Mets history commenced.

Keep in mind that we were laughed at for offering Freddy Garcia for Kazmir too

Freddy Garcia was Cy Young compared to Victor Zambrano

HA!

Never, EVER, listen to coaches.

I feel like I also remember reading that the Mets didn't think of Kazmir as anything more than a number 5 starter, even if most scouts disagreed.
Im just complaining about the contract while I have a chance.

This deal would be amazing for the Rays.

The Mets knew he was going to blow up in 2009

That’s why they traded Victor Fucking Zambrano for him

Suddenly they look smart

Minyana is known for his intelligence.

Which is why Zduriencik chose him to make his first major trade with.

What about Jim Duquette?
Although Omar is the dumbest GM in baseball (non-Dayton division), that trade was done under the auspices of Jim Duquette.
Coletti?
His in-season moves last year were pretty damn sharp -- it seems he might have just needed McCourt to give him the monetary clampdown

And as dumb as many of his moves have been, it’s hard to argue with the team’s record over this season and the last.

The White Sox beat the Astros in the World Series
I would submit that Kenny Williams is one of the more chronically underrated GMs in baseball.
He is sometimes good and sometimes bad.

He’s like a less extreme Sabean

Now if only the same thing would happen to Tillman.
Saturday it was those guys for Kazmir + Brignac so I'm guessing this is outdated and misinterpreted info.
That's what I'm hoping

That would be a really fucking stupid trade if we did that

I wouldn't say "really fucking stupid"

it’s not indefensible. But for a Z move it would be pretty bad.

I'd barely consider it a good trade to do Morrow for Kazmir straight up

Throw in Clement and it’s absurdity

Well Clement has very little value
Clements not having a bad year is he? I know he's inconsistent but this is nothing new.

And isn’t it common for hitters like a Jeff Clement to not truly blossom until their mid-to-late twenties? The high power/high strikeout guys?

Clement is 26
After 4 years (I think) in a major college, I expect the blooming to come quick.
I know, thats why I added the "to-late" to cover my tracks.
If we didn't sign Griffey, we would've seen Clement in the majors already this season and who knows what he may have been able to do.

I don’t think its fair to give up on him now.

Clement was awful last year
I like Jeffrey too, but we've got enough first basemen.

He just cant catch. He literally can’t. It hurts the poor lad.

Doesn't do Rob Johnson any harm.
Actually, I think about of my posts are slagging off RJ. I'll try to hold off

but he makes it so damn to do so.

*about half of.
We still need a DH...
DHs are cheap and if he nets us a good player in return, see ya later
But it's so hard to find good ones!

Just ask everyone since Edgar!

In my opinion, there shouldn't be a guy whos is your 'real DH'

Just someone good at hitting that is blocked on the field by someone better. I know that’s a bit much to expect, but I hate the idea of keeping someone around JUST to pick up a bat.

Well I definitely wouldn't say that about Jeff Clement, because his bat hasn't been great.

But there are definitely players who are much more valuable when they only DH and are worth keeping around, ie David Ortiz, Jim Thome, etc.

But those are guys with A+ bats. Also, Liabilties in the field.
Definitely agree. Like I said, I don't liken Clement to those guys, just making the point that sometimes you do have a guy in the system as your future DH for all of those reasons.
Morrow and Clement for Kazmir would be really, really, really, unbelievably fucking stupid
This just has to be based on perceived value.

Because the real value of Clement and Morrow is, IMO, pretty negligible.

I would bet good money that neither will ever amount to much of anything. Of course we should be able to get more for them than a Kaz who is breaking down and costs too much for only 1.4 years of team control.

It seems to me that it wasn't long ago we were all praising Morrows swinging strike rate as a reason to believe that once he can go 6 innings or more, he'll be a very good starter.

There’s still juice to be squeezed out of this lemon.

Morrow is a valuable commodity and Kazmir has been awful
And has a pretty solid history of getting injured in pitching areas of his body.
I disagree as to the degree of the stupidity, but it's a moot point.
This is a Bavasi move.
I'm assuming this is old BS too.
This would be hilarious.
Also, playing at the Trop will do wonders for Clement's knees.
I like the notion of Kazmir when his name came after 'Reid Brignac and'

but alone? Fuck no.

and... from Churchill again

“Actually guys, I believe the site has been fooled. I did not post the above comment, No. 40.

I have NOT heard that.

All I know is that Clement was traded, and at least one, possibly two or three other minor leaguers are involved and that it could be a three-way deal.
"

I'm tired of this shit.
I just read that too

and breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Good then

Now let’s all settle down until tomorrow.

Gotta admit, this is pretty damn fun.

Even the trolling is amusing.

This is a hacked comment.
Hacked or one of those things where someone put

Jason A Churchili as the name with a capital “i”.

As long as the hacker doesn’t do anything else malicious, it’s kind of harmless. But I don’t really care for someone hacking Churchill’s account. That’s just not cool.

Problem should be mitigated now...

AFAIK his account hasn’t been hacked.

But yeah, as you can tell by how quickly that comment made it over here and exploded into discussion, it’s more than “harmless.”

In fact, it’s probably a criminal act, posing as Churchill when he’s a credentialed member of the media.

I like how Churchill then says "There will not be any details until tomorrow. Go to sleep."

Just totally shuts everyone down.

I could have made up that rumour
Speaking of trades

What is it about Erick Aybar that I don’t understand? Why would the Angels be so reluctant to trade Aybar, Saunders, Wood, and another player for Roy Halladay? Woods value has only declined over the past two years, and you upgrade from Joe Saunders to at least 1.5 seasons of Roy Halladay. So I’m assuming Aybar is the sticking point. Wouldn’t you want Roy Halladay though and just run away with the west again and possibly in 2010?

Sorry to bring all this up, damn trading deadline it drives me insane.

GOD
Eyebrows, you don't have to get offended. I came from a point of ignorance on Erick Aybar already, you can just state why he's that good.
Or you could maybe just look up some stats.

And it’s not just about Aybar. It’s about marginal wins of Roy Halladay and team control and pre-arb years and a lot of things.

Im just of the opinion that the proposed Angels deal that LA shut down was not as good as the proposed deal from Philly.

Roy Halladay is a special pitcher and I don’t see a future superstar in that group.

He also makes a lot of money.
Wood can still pull it together.

And three young cheap players are definitely valuable assets, especially since Halladay won’t add that much more value to the Angels over the course of this year. Yes, there is another year as well – I know.

I think the Angels have great prospects on the farm in order to get a Roy Halladay

I just don’t think they’re including any of them in a deal like this. And since Saunders, Wood and Aybar have already started their “service time” it doesn’t seem as sweet as a deal from Philly when many of them are still in the minors.

Their farm system isn't very good.
To be fair, the report said it was Joe Saunders OR Jered Weaver.
Were I the Angels I don't think I'd take that deal so I hope the Angels take that deal.
Aybar is really fucking good and really fucking cheap
This too, baffles me

I’d much rather take Boston’s or Philly’s packages.

I guess if you don't understand baseball you will not understand this.
He's not Kenny Knows Baseball
Do we even know for a fact that he's Kenny? He might just be complimenting a friend or something
Because scrappy players provide the most valuable boost?
Don't want to be the 15,000,000 person to say this, but this is exciting.
You are exactly the third person to use the word exciting in this thread.

One was about the trade deadline being exciting, one was about this not being exciting.

So you are maybe the second person to say this.

POST LESS FREQUENTLY
MAKE IT COOL ENOUGH TO SLEEP
Gutz naked.

Wooops. Thats the opposite.

This isn't USSMariner
AM I DOING I RIGHT NOW
It's your own damn fault for putting up this thread.

For chrissake.

Jeff isn't Asian
Obviously

Asians aren’t creative. They do math.

Are you kidding.

They made the Prius.

False. That was technology reverse-engineered from the crash at Roswell.
It only took 60 years to figure it all out.
It took a lot longer than that

to realize the earth wasn’t flat soo…….

No, it's like in Men in Black.

They just sit on it and license the technologies one at a time to make the development cycle seem normal.

But Jeff Goldblum is only in his 50s
Actually.

He is dead.

That was hilarious.
So he's the Australian one?
You just need to work out a deal where you get paid by the comment.
Corcommission!
You know it hasn't taken effect yet right?
Nobody said double posts wouldn't be paid at the same flat rate.
I made a typo in the first one
It was a Corcomission
Rec'd for quick thinking.
That's a Corco-mission actually
No, it's Corc-omission.
Well, I've been Corcowned
He'd be even richer than Kos if that deal was worked out on SBNation.

We’d make sure of that. Corco too.

Let's speculate as to the deal

I say he goes to Philly with Washburn for Rollins, Drabek, and Myeers

What a world that would be.
It would be great because Myers fills that gap that Julio Mateo has left in our franchise's wife-beating portfolio.
nice...actually made me laugh out loud
Washburn for Moyer, straight up.
Or you can just reunite Washburn with his best buddy

John “Double Chin and Mole” Lackey!

HAPPY LACKEY

He's like Tiny Tim's athletic brother
Clement and Lahair for Wilson and Snell

Oh, wait, you weren’t serious?

I really hope this trade is for pitching

Because God knows we need starters

As stupid as it sounds, this stolen moment in time where we KNOW Clement is gonebabygone, but still don't know what's coming back, is pretty exciting.

I suppose that’s all we have left to cling onto this season.

I will note that the goddamned motherfucking Angels came back from behind to win yet again tonight.

You put the coin in, and pulled the lever

now you just gotta hope for those three fucking cherries.

I know that Clement is getting to be too old to be a prospect anymore. I know that he has struggled to hit at the major league level.

But I still cant give up hope and I pray we really get something back for him. Maybe the Nats will have mercy on us for that draft and we’ll get Ryan Zimmerman. Or the Rockies will have mercy and we’ll get Troy Tulowitzki. Or the Brewers will have…. oh this would take forever.

Yo dudes what's with all the commotion?
Griffey homered
God you're lazy

I mean he is the face of the franchise.
The one true Mariner.
Show some respect.
I thought Alvin Davis was Mr. Mariner.
No homers since July 1st!
Friendly service reminder...

In case people are trying to regurgitate a comment left at ProspectInsider as something Jason said, it’s not true.

Someone created a bogus username that on screen LOOKS like Jason’s, but it isn’t. The comment “I’m hearing Morrow + Clement for Kazmir” comes from “Jason Churchili” NOT Jason Churchill…

Yeah, it fooled me, too…

I bet it was that sneaky _Jeff
JeffS.
No no.

There was a time that SBN allowed a space as an initial character. So someone created the screenname [space]Jeff

Hahah spaceJeff. I am tired.

But the other one is, right?
Yep.

News travels fast on the intertubes, so fortunately I happened to be paying real close attention to the page and have admin privileges, so I tracked it down quickly…

We’re working to make sure it doesn’t happen again…

Looks like he's still posting there and confusing people

I don’t envy you.

hee hee hee

I don’t know who did that, but good show. That got everybody.

Thats kind of annoying.

Some people honestly do the weirdest things with their time.

I was trying to sleep for the past hour but had to come back and get my Jeff Clement rumor fix.

Oh c'mon.

It was a perfect troll. It had us all bunched up in our anxieties.

The fear of not knowing.
The fear that things really haven’t changed, and that even Jack Z might fuck up.
The fear of really being buyers instead of being sellers and buyers at the same time.

I nearly crapped my pants when I read it. It played to every single gut wrenching feeling we’ve been having since we heard Jeff was taken out of the game. It worked magic.

Now laugh at it. Laugh at yourself for being spooked. It’s fun. Break the tension and relax.

All good points and I mostly agree.

But on the other hand, look at the speed with which the Fake Churchill’s “scoop” has traveled. Shit like that can get out of hand quickly.

Yeah. I know.

But that’s part of where we need to laugh at ourselves. Who spread it around? We did. We’re so information hungry that we wanted to know and wanted to tell everybody else as fast as possible. In the end, it’s all bogus, so does it really end up hurting anybody?

I think what makes it work so much better than the MLBTraderumor.com fucker posting on Jed Lowrie is that this one was at least somewhat close to believable initially. We were ready and willing to possibly accept that we’d screwed up. Thankfully, we started questioning it soon afterward. Our logical minds won out in the end.

Still, yeah, it’s kind of mean. Fun, but mean. And if it was really Jason’s account hacked, well that just sucks.

Latest Little Rumor on Prospect Insider...

Clement and Morrow to Cleveland, Lee to Tampa, Kazmir and Brignac to Seattle.

The only part I can’t get my head around is what’s in it for Cleveland? They seem to know better than that.

This isn't a new rumor at all.

It’s been around since early Saturday morning and thought to be largely dead by Saturday night.

My bad, don't mean to bring up old news.
In my defense, Churchill just acknowledged it by saying its still very possible.
Hasn't that rumour been around for a while now?
It's the same trade from the other day, only this one doesn't have Martinez going to Tampa Bay.
It still makes sense balance-wise, as well as fitting within the "5 player" rubric.

Lee AND Martinez to Tampa was originally part of this rumor, and that just didn’t make any sense as the two of them were far too much to give up for the return of Clement and Morrow, no matter how much $$$ or low-level prospects were kicked in.

Obviously, it’s all speculation, but I think this could be the one. I’d LIKE it to be the one, at least.

I guess theres no chance that Brignac was pulled mid-game?

That would make this a lot easier.

If Martinez were included the Rays would be giving them Davis and likely moving Pena.
Even with Wade Davis...

Martinez AND Lee for Davis, Morrow, and Clement? I would hope they’d get a better package than that. That’s not exaclty Sizemore, Lee, Philips.

It's not, but teams don't make those trades anymore.
The joke here is too easy.
Bavasi was fired
Z's trade with the Mets was a fleecing.

But there was more than one player given up.

The Mets probably aren't too broken up about it honestly.
That's only because the Mets are currently broken.

The whole Bernazard/Minaya/Rubin debacle has been so awesome I WANT TO DIP MY BALLS IN IT.

That was awesome
Mark Texiera, Erik Bedard...

Those were only for ONE player. We’re talking about the reigning Cy Young (and you can make of that what you want, I know that’s what the Indians are selling) and Victor Martinez.. they should be able to get at least 3 superb prospects in my opinion and Morrow and Clement have lost that pedigree. Maybe Wade Davis, Brandon Morrow, and that outfielder prospect on TB whose name just slipped my mind.

but cleveland LIKES our prospects.

They have half a team from us already

That's it, I'm catching the next Pimpmobile out of here.

Hopefully something will have happened in the next six hours or so.

Bite! My! Shiny! Metal! Dafodil!
I am going to miss Clement.
I find it interesting that nobody has really expressed remorse or sadness that he's 99% gone.
I'm just sad he never really got a chance.

I mean we have Rob Fucking Johnson doing the catching up here.

Rob Fucking Johnson has knees.
Jeff Clement doesn't have knees?!

Holy shit I’m glad we got rid of him before other GM’s noticed.

He's like the R.A. Dickey of leg joins.
*JOINTS.

FUCK I HATE RUINING MY OWN JOKE.

Esoteric, sorry to go off-topic but I only have to ask this once..

does your name have anything to do with the rapper Esoteric?

Not in the slightest.

While I love the fuck out of music, I can’t stand hip-hop. It’s the only major genre I can’t get int in any way.

Ha, okay.

I’m not even the biggest rap fan, but I know a guy who is touring with him so I had to ask.

You try Lupe?
Look, my favorite band of all time is GENESIS -- progressive-era Genesis.

With Pavement and Radiohead heading up my list of modern acts. You have no idea how unbelievably far away I am from hip-hop, in terms of my musical aesthetic.

Alice in Chains for me
Pearl Jam has to be mine.

Not just because of Ten, because of their versatility and staying power afterwards. In fact, Ten isn’t even my favorite album.

You consider Pavement to be modern?
Which should tell you just how disaffected I am with music of the last decade.

Seriously though, Pavement is and will remain eternally fresh for me….musical greatness like theirs comes along only once every ten years or so.

But we are veering off-topic here.

Radiohead is my third favorite artist of all time. Lupe Fiasco is second.
Dude, this will change your opinion on hiphop

here. Its a Swedish Hip Hop/swing band. I hate hip hop too, but I can’t get enough of this.

That's some pretty good shit.

Though I’ll admit the language barrier doesn’t cross over as well in rap, in my opinion. and my favorite band of all-time is German, which I don’t speak either.

I would say that I wish I knew what they are saying.

But Ebonics is also a language of its own, so I am not too bothered. I just enjoyed the emceeing and the swing music.

Meh, he didn't have any future at all here.
I couldn't really care less.

I’m more interested in the returns than the costs… my have my thoughts changed since the end of the Bavasi era.

it's simply because the mariners have sucked my emotion for him away

I’ve been hearing about Clement forever, but he’s never panned out and has been jerked all over the place. I’m sad he didn’t make it here, but that sadness has been experienced already with him not being a part of the major league team. Clement leaving isn’t really sad because I’ve said goodbye to him already.

He's pretty much been my favorite prospect since we drafted him

That being said, the good of the team comes before my personal attachments.

Hot damn shit's finally happening!
Well the Clement jersey purchase was a poor decision.
It's ok

Graham owns one as well.

Graham has Doyle, Clement, and Cedeno as far as Mariners jerseys go though.
What crappy luck with jerseys.

I don’t see why he doesn’t just by a MacAree custom jersey.

I would buy my own customer jersey, but I can just wait until Adam Moore makes the big league squad.

If he bought a MacAree jersey the FO would somehow find a way to trade his analytical skills to the Padres.

You know it would happen.

Per Divish

File this name away as well — Aaron Pribianic of Class A Clinton

I hope he is wrong.

Tell me something about this guy.

Namely, why I would be bothered to see him go?

Here ya go.

Pribanic

Drafted in the third (I believe) round of the 2008 draft. Good pitcher, would be sad to loose him.

He's been doing really well this year.

But we seem to have a lot of guys like him in the lower minors.

Even still, he's not a non-prospect throw-in.

So if he’s going too, the return better be sweet.

I wouldn't say non-prospect.

He’s not a Quiroz or anything. The man does have a future.

I didn't say non-prospect either, I think he's got potential to pitch in the majors. And as far as I'm concerned, even making it to the majors makes you a big deal.
I read your comment wrong.

I apologize. I read it as he WAS a non-prospect.

Lorin is better, and I guess Cortes is a decent replacement

But I am not thrilled to see him go. Now that is without knowing the return. I may do back flips I don’t know yet.

Yeah, I'd rather give someone else up.

But lower minors starters isn’t exactly something we have a dearth of.

And thank god for that

it seems like forever since we’ve had a good higher-level pitching prospect. Hopefully at least one or two of them will become legitimate prospects.

Well we did have that one guy that will be pitching today.
Some of the nicer things about Pribanic

He has only given up one homer run in 87.0 innings, and he get nearly 3 ground balls for every fly ball. Not sure about his velocity or anything like that, but nice peripherals.

It's settled then. Pribanic will be an All Star.
YES!

No you’ve got it.

So then we did trade him to the Red Sox?
His HR rate screams unsustainable and it could very well make him look better than he really is to another team.
Although good heavens does he ever have a low FB%
Pitching well

didn’t have fantastic upside though. On the Future Forty they had him as a potential 1.50 WAR player. Seems like a decent complimentary piece. Let’s hope we’re getting something good.

The next peson who calls Rob Johnson a bad baseball player will lose my respect.

I have just accepted (with the help of my mariner bias) that Rob Johnson is just as good as Jeff Clement. And that’s considering his health, and uncanny ability to make good pitchers love pitching to him.

I don't know if you noticed.

But his CERA went up in the past few days.

This a joke?
No joke. I like him. Those two reasons arent really my reasons, but more like selling points for myself.

cERA can suck my dick.

Who is this Cera? Can I get her number?
He played "George Michael" on the cult TV show Arrested Development.

He’s also been in some shitty movies playing essentially the same character.

The best awkward actor of our lifetime.
Rob Johnson is a bad baseball player
We're trading for Roy Halladay aren't we?
Nothing's going to happen tonight, is it?
No. I imagine Jack is asleep.
I bet he is as hot as the rest of us right about now.
I'm gonna set my alarm for 8 AM just so I'm up in time when it becomes official.

And so I can get a few things done before the heat comes back.

If only he had a twitter so we could know.
Find his cell number.
I could imagine his Tweeting

It seems as though you don't pull a guy unless a deal is done.

So what the hell happened? I give this 50/50 odds of being a way to fuck with the fans.

Speaking prospect wise, I saw someone in the M's Organization who had 72 K's and 3 BB's.

Who was that? Did anyone see that and sorry if this violates something?

Erasmis Ramirez? Is that his name?
Yes, that looks very familiar.
Venezuelan League so take it for what you will.
Still impressive.
No, Im excited to see those numbers.
The last time I got excited about a trade...

I had a nightmare that we unloaded our farm system for Erik Bedard. Good thing it was only a dream.

Make sure to pay careful attention to the Orioles game today because its gonna to hurt really fucking bad
Damn right it fucking hurts

Can you believe that those lucky Baltimore fans are going to get plush oriole toys tomorrow? What a fantastic promotion! And all we get are stinkin’ Bobbleheads.
