OK, I intensely dislike Papelbon as much as the next Ms fan...
But why are people getting all worked up over him saying he wouldn’t mind playing for the Yankees in the future?
Seriously “Red Sox Nation”, all of MLB isn’t all wrapped up in this rivalry of yours. Let the guy play wherever the hell he wants. If the yankees offer him the best contract, so be it.
But if I remember correctly, I don’t think he was the one that brought up the whole “Yankees” part of it. I blame it on the paranoid Sox media making sure their precious players don’t ever wanna go over to “the dark side”.
He doesn’t have a nickname yet, he’s working on a Spartan helmet, and he left the pink backpack in Seattle (it was at the stadium, he was in Tacoma, and the flight left in 2 hours) and so was expecting to pay for that.
I've heard that sometimes a catcher will judge how well each pitch is working for the pitcher during the warm-up pre-game and call pitches accordingly.
I’m not sure it means anything, but I’ve heard about it.
Mariners: Hernandez returns to the scene of one of his best career starts — a one-hitter against the Red Sox at Fenway Park three years ago — on a big-time roll. The ace right-hander has surrendered five earned runs in his past 53 innings, striking out 51 over that span. His two-seam fastball has been his bread-and-butter pitch, and rookie catcher Rob Johnson has not been shy about calling for it.
On the postgame show they asked a bunch of players who they thought was the most good looking guy on the team and Branyan said Gutierrez. Guti won the fanpoll too.
The best part was when they asked them where they would rank themselves, and Corcoran said something to the effect of “I’m down, way down [on the list]. My body is just…..a mess. It’s bad…..real bad.”.
but Morse was pretty useless. At the worst we got someone with a decent bat for the latter part of the lineup and with some above average defensive skills.
That being said, any game where we win thanks to 3 Rob Johnson doubles is kind of a fluke.
In other news, McOwen extends his streak to 40 games in the 9th! I don’t know if anyone else is even interested, but if he gets to 45, it’ll be the longest professional streak since the 1954.

Yeah, especially those flailing swings that go for home runs.
Wilder. - July 3, 2009
I was a little late to the game fellas
I didn’t see anything until the last three innings. That good today, but lately it has been painful.

Rob Johnson: Felix didn't have his offspeed pitches working early on:
He threw 13 four seamers in his first 14 pitches. You had no idea what his offspeed stuff was like.
Decatur - July 3, 2009
I've heard that sometimes a catcher will judge how well each pitch is working for the pitcher during the warm-up pre-game and call pitches accordingly.
I’m not sure it means anything, but I’ve heard about it.
BrettJMiller - July 3, 2009

Mariners: Hernandez returns to the scene of one of his best career starts — a one-hitter against the Red Sox at Fenway Park three years ago — on a big-time roll. The ace right-hander has surrendered five earned runs in his past 53 innings, striking out 51 over that span. His two-seam fastball has been his bread-and-butter pitch, and rookie catcher Rob Johnson has not been shy about calling for it.

Sinking Away - July 3, 2009
What's this all about, did he actually say that?
Rudy4three - July 3, 2009
Yeah he did
On the postgame show they asked a bunch of players who they thought was the most good looking guy on the team and Branyan said Gutierrez. Guti won the fanpoll too.
The best part was when they asked them where they would rank themselves, and Corcoran said something to the effect of “I’m down, way down [on the list]. My body is just…..a mess. It’s bad…..real bad.”.

Wilder. - July 3, 2009
Playoffs?
I figured it was obligatory for someone to say it after every game.
Slow Country - July 3, 2009
It is obiligatory. In fact, it is mandatory to call for the playoffs.
Sinking Away - July 3, 2009
*obligatory*
Sinking Away - July 3, 2009
For the first time I think that is a serious question after this game
OlSalty - July 3, 2009
3-1 against the Cock Sox
And 4-3 on the trip. Get one on the weekend and we just rocked a winning record on the trip from hell.
calim - July 3, 2009
Sweep!
Slow Country - July 3, 2009
What the fuck are you talking about?
It is a 9-game road trip and we only play three games against the Red Sox.
Wilder. - July 3, 2009
Took 2 of 3 in an earlier series.
Slow Country - July 3, 2009
He means for the year
OlSalty - July 3, 2009
Now that makes more sense.
Wilder. - July 3, 2009
HOW
Poochie - July 3, 2009
I DONT KNOW
Slow Country - July 3, 2009
RC on the postgame show.
texting up a storm.
msb - July 3, 2009
Haha!
If I texted, I would have a conundrum, definitely…
section331 - July 3, 2009
What'd she ask?
appleshampoo - July 3, 2009
Oh, she just chimed in on the 'most important win so far?' question
mostly it’s just entertaining to hear Pitman say “royalcurve says…”
msb - July 3, 2009
Huh. Did I?
I didn’t listen to the postgame show. But I did respond to the Twitter question by saying “darn tootin”. Not radio material, I wouldn’t think.
royalcurve - July 3, 2009
Not according to Matt Pitman!
msb - July 4, 2009
I was on TV
Drew’s HR was 3 people away from me.
PShwa - July 3, 2009
Did you look properly scornful?
msb - July 3, 2009
Duh.
PShwa - July 3, 2009
GS52 save away from being 2.5 games back.
appleshampoo - July 3, 2009

Wilder. - July 3, 2009
Ballgame
Bingo
calim - July 3, 2009
I love how yahoo! recap makes it seem like our win was just a huge fluke.

Slow Country - July 3, 2009
I really don't think he was going to catch that ball
gregrabble - July 3, 2009
Hrm
I don’t know, but the angle of it in this photo makes it look like he could have…
section331 - July 3, 2009
I still don't think Youk catches that ball.
Fuckmikereilly - July 3, 2009
And, watching the video highlights on the M's site
Oh my god this “comedian” guy is annoying.
Fuckmikereilly - July 3, 2009
WE SURVIVED!
Goose - July 4, 2009
I now regret turning this game off in the bottom of the 10th. :(
EnglishMariner - July 4, 2009
So seriously I could understand if Ronny hit that homerun off of a 95 mph fastball or something
Since much of the energy would be coming from the pitch itself and would explain where the distance came from.
But that was a mid-60’s knuckleball. And it was low and inside and had a ton of break on it. What the hell Ronny..
OlSalty - July 4, 2009
It's almost as if the M's are angry with what Jeff said about the 400+ foot bombs...
EnglishMariner - July 4, 2009
I was more impressed when he hit a foul ball that cleared the upper deck and left the stadium
