The whole thing was a book she was writing that had been accurate until Dan had a heart attack.
He died but in the book she made him live and then cheat on her. Also, in “real life” Becky married David and Darlene married Mark. They also never won the lottery, which was a stupid storyline anyways.
I’m using the At-Bat app on my iPhone, which plots with pitch F/X as far as I know. On the online version, they look much more borderline. I’d say 1 is still a strike though. Even though 3 was clearly outside on the MLB.com version.
The guy was all over the place. I know we’re all for computers, but if he has no idea where the ball is going, you can’t argue with not getting a borderline call.
There comes a point where a pitch could reasonably be called a ball or a strike. If a pitch is on that border, it’s going to be called a ball if the guy hasn’t thrown anything else close.
Now that I think about it the only pitcher that I would trust in the situation Lowe was in would be Kelley since he throws strikes why Wak didn't bring him in depresses me.
If you were standing in the video store, clutching a handful of dvds and visiting with one of the clerks, and the other clerk asked you out of the blue, “say [your name here], do you still have Sports Night out?”, wouldn’t you ask more than “It isn’t due yet, is it?”
If the pleasant-looking person also standing at the desk then added, “no, I was wondering when they would be returned”, wouldn’t you at least turn towards said desk (if not actually make eye-contact with anyone) and say something like"Gosh, what a funny show" or “Almost done with volume one” or even, “Wow, what a coincidence”?
So that's the Sox's secret...

Maroon?!

Yeah the balls he were throwing are borderline bt he's giving the calls to the sox.
Slurvey - July 5, 2009
Gameday?
seattlebruin - July 5, 2009
Gameday showed 1 and 3 in the strikezone for me.
Those were called balls. Pitch 4 was swung on and missed. Kotsay should be struck out.
BrettJMiller - July 5, 2009
1,3, and 4 are clearly out of the zone
and remainder were in
No mistakes by the umpire
Poochie - July 5, 2009
To Kotsay?
No they weren’t
Poochie - July 5, 2009
They did not look like strikes at all
gregrabble - July 5, 2009
I see two pitches in the zone
one that was just outside, and another that was hit into play.
BrianL - July 5, 2009
Oh well. Just got back from vacation to this.
Should’ve stayed in Montreal.
esoteric - July 5, 2009
Another series victory where we come out with a negative run differential
Craig Powers - July 5, 2009
2 outs
2 OUTS!

2 FUCKING OUTS!
Wilder. - July 5, 2009
Well, time to wrap it up, 5-4 road trip is still a success.

Everyone is way too upset about this. Seriously.
Fuckmikereilly - July 5, 2009
Fuck you
Wilder. - July 5, 2009
DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND THAT OUR PLAYOFF CHANCES ARE FALLING APART?
James F'n X - July 5, 2009
I agree with this sentiment
calim - July 5, 2009
Fuck you, too
Wilder. - July 5, 2009

BLOW ME
Aaron Campeau - July 5, 2009
We're just mad because we weren't supposed to win this game, then we looked like we were gonna steal one, and now we're shitting the bed.
BrettJMiller - July 5, 2009
Eat it.
royalcurve - July 5, 2009

Manzanillos Cup - July 5, 2009
For everything upsetting, Wak looks like a true badass in those sunglasses
Robert Lintott - July 5, 2009
There was a shot of wak in the dugout yesterday with Kenji preparing with a bat behind him
and all I could think was ‘Yakuza’
Eyeball Kid - July 5, 2009
He just has no expression.
He looks like a great hit man.
Robert Lintott - July 5, 2009
So, Mark Lowe blew a game while Roy Corcoran saved one.
Huh.
ThundaPC - July 5, 2009
Well, to be fair Mark Lowe is bad.
BrettJMiller - July 5, 2009
But not as bad as Corco.
Slurvey - July 5, 2009
I like Corcoran so much better right now.
gregrabble - July 5, 2009
In a day or two that may/may not change.
Slurvey - July 5, 2009
It probably will
gregrabble - July 5, 2009
Call up Fields and hold a public execution of Lowe and Tits.
russak - July 5, 2009
Fucking Batista
seattlebruin - July 5, 2009
What the fuck is so hard about putting the ball in the strike zone. I would have much rather he threw strikes and got his then this shi
gregrabble - July 5, 2009
shit*
gregrabble - July 5, 2009
Obviously he did not throw all balls on purpose.
Fuckmikereilly - July 5, 2009
Gameday thinks he did put the ball in the strike zone.
BrettJMiller - July 5, 2009
It really really did not look like it on TV
gregrabble - July 5, 2009
It didn't look like it on Gameday either
Aaron Campeau - July 5, 2009
Knee high on the outside corner? That's a strike to me.
BrettJMiller - July 5, 2009
Which AB are you talking about?
Aaron Campeau - July 5, 2009
Kotsay's single.
I’m using the At-Bat app on my iPhone, which plots with pitch F/X as far as I know. On the online version, they look much more borderline. I’d say 1 is still a strike though. Even though 3 was clearly outside on the MLB.com version.
BrettJMiller - July 5, 2009
Are you sure you're looking at the right AB?
BrianL - July 5, 2009
For Chrissake
The guy was all over the place. I know we’re all for computers, but if he has no idea where the ball is going, you can’t argue with not getting a borderline call.
calim - July 5, 2009
Yes you can. Strikes are strikes.
Teej - July 5, 2009
(though I'm not talking about this particular at-bat)
I just think the whole idea of punishing a guy who can’t throw strikes is retarded.
Teej - July 5, 2009
Not to mention sadistic.
Decatur - July 5, 2009
Yes but these weren't.
Aaron Campeau - July 5, 2009
Ow, my ass!
Poochie - July 5, 2009
Hm, I guess one isn't as close as I thought.
BrettJMiller - July 5, 2009
But if you're using humans, for better or worse
There comes a point where a pitch could reasonably be called a ball or a strike. If a pitch is on that border, it’s going to be called a ball if the guy hasn’t thrown anything else close.
calim - July 5, 2009
Which is stupid.
BrettJMiller - July 5, 2009
If a pitch falls in a location that is described by the rulebook as being in the strikezone
it should be called a strike.
BrianL - July 5, 2009
So there's no such thing as a borderline pitch to a human eye?
I call bullshit
calim - July 5, 2009
Replace the human element.
BrianL - July 5, 2009
No, but guys who are having control issues should not be given a smaller strike zone than someone who has his command.
That’s ridiculous.
Teej - July 5, 2009
But it sure seems to happen.
BrettJMiller - July 5, 2009
This is what I'm saying
Given the system we have now, it happens to everyone. Acting like we got robbed is ridiculous.
calim - July 5, 2009
I have no idea why BJM is pretending otherwise.
Gameday clearly indicated they were balls.
esoteric - July 5, 2009
Pitch one still looks like a strike to me, which would make Pitch 5 a strikeout pitch.
But it is a borderline call.
BrettJMiller - July 5, 2009
and got hit*, wow I'm having trouble typing today

calim - July 5, 2009
Passed balls and wild pitch calls are retarded...
how is that one a passed ball, and the two Rob fucked up a little while ago wild pitches…

Dear Mark Lowe:

Slurvey - July 5, 2009
Scoring 5 runs of Papelbon is gonna be awesome.
MFAN - July 5, 2009
Why would they bring Papelbon in?
BrettJMiller - July 5, 2009
Especially when the Ms are being baffled by that 12 year old out there on the mound
msb - July 5, 2009
When we load the bases with 0 outs it will be a save situation.
MFAN - July 5, 2009
This is extremely optomistic
Being as though we don’t draw walks
HHZ - July 5, 2009
Optimistic*
HHZ - July 5, 2009
It's also assuming White doesn't give up any runs in the 8th, which I doubt happens.
MFAN - July 5, 2009
Holy shit it's happening
HHZ - July 5, 2009
Scoring 3 would be funny
HHZ - July 5, 2009
Now that I think about it the only pitcher that I would trust in the situation Lowe was in would be Kelley since he throws strikes why Wak didn't bring him in depresses me.
Slurvey - July 5, 2009
Which is funny because bringing Kelley in almost cost us the first game of the series.
ThundaPC - July 5, 2009
Nick Green wasn't at the plate though
gregrabble - July 5, 2009
I wouldn't trust Kelley more
Lowe or White was probably the right move.
Fuckmikereilly - July 5, 2009
I love Kelley, but his command is definitely not 100% and probably won't be for another 2-4 games
Decatur - July 5, 2009

I think any walk with the bases loaded qualifies as silly.
Eyeball Kid - July 5, 2009

6-10, 4 HR’s, 2B in the last two games. Certainly would be cool if he could rebound from his disaster of a first half.
Fuckmikereilly - July 5, 2009
Maybe the bullpen was just trying to make Dan Wilson feel at home.
Imploding for a loss, and all that.

Human element, and all.

It wouldn’t be baseball without them, Dammit, man!

Not in games where Jose Lopez wins it at home with a walkoff.
Decatur - July 5, 2009
That would still be us getting a lead
gregrabble - July 5, 2009
We are not 0-81

2.5-3.5 games back after that trip, with the Angels and Rangers playing each other next!
Fuckmikereilly - July 5, 2009

I fully support making Russell Branyan a Lookout Landing mod.
Decatur - July 5, 2009
Wait till September!
Robert - July 5, 2009
Here is a question.
If you were standing in the video store, clutching a handful of dvds and visiting with one of the clerks, and the other clerk asked you out of the blue, “say [your name here], do you still have Sports Night out?”, wouldn’t you ask more than “It isn’t due yet, is it?”
If the pleasant-looking person also standing at the desk then added, “no, I was wondering when they would be returned”, wouldn’t you at least turn towards said desk (if not actually make eye-contact with anyone) and say something like"Gosh, what a funny show" or “Almost done with volume one” or even, “Wow, what a coincidence”?
msb - July 5, 2009
