Last Night

We having fun yet?

By the time the game finally ended, I wanted to sleep more than I wanted to write, but that's probably just as well, because last night...that was one of those games to which the written word can make but a limited contribution. There was so much - so much - to talk about, but with the way it went and the way it finished, I don't think that was the sort of game to follow immediately with analysis and pithy remarks about Felix's nasty-ass goatee; rather, that was the sort of game to experience and enjoy and slumber upon, like an insightful movie or a great first date. 1-0 in 14 innings with Griffey providing the heroics? I don't think people will be talking about this one for ten years the way they do the 18-inning Mike Cameron game, but on the scale from fun to annoying to fun to legendary that games like this tend to follow, Junior might've pushed this one into stage 4. Though I don't have the Griffey fever that's taken hold of so much of the fan base, even I can see that there was probably no better way for that game to end.

Who knew that we'd go on to be thankful for Kotsay catching Rob Johnson's line drive?

Felix was great. White was great. Kelley was great. Jak was great. Beltre was great. Ichiro was great. Johnson was a hero once, and very nearly twice. And the icon hit the winner. It's rare that you see something so perfect come together the way it did last night, and as such it's my recommendation that you spend less time reading about it and more time thinking about it, because no matter which words people choose to put on the screen, they'll be no match for your recollection.

Yes, we're having fun.

Great game. How many swinging strikes did the M’s pitchers get? Felix was getting them in bunches between bouts of wildness, and hell, even Jak got three or four there at the end.

27!

Jak actually got six on the night. His curveball looked terrific.

Twenty seven. Holy shit.
None for White :(
They would only distract Sean White

and take him further from where he needs to be – a 65% GB bullpen guy.

I MISSED THE GAME
TRY BEING ME I STOPPED WATCHING IN THE 8TH BECAUSE I HAD OTHER STUFF TO DO
Did Beltre get nutted twice in this game?
Was one of them from Kotsay's glove? Or both?
His throwing error play.

He got nutted by the grounder.

I still think it's absolutely insane he plays 3B without a cup.
Well Kotsay caught a ball from the pitcher a swung a tag over and caught Beltre pretty good in the junk too.
*and swung a tag
Plus he landed on top of Podsednik ...
We can overtake Boston, right?
Yes. Just keep believing.
I woke up during our 8th inning rally and it totally messed up my sleep after that.

It was probably 5am, I checked my phone and we were rallying. I decided to see how the rally went and then Lopez and Sweeney crapped out. I tried to fall asleep and eventually did so, only to have a dream about the game where we were getting beat. And then I woke up again and thought that we had been beaten [I was in a confused state], checked the phone and lo, we were still 0-0 in the 11th. So I feel back to sleep once more and started to dream about the game. I was actually playing in the game, but instead of baseball we were playing American Football [?] in a supermarket car park [???]. I woke up again a few minutes before my alarm was due to go off, checked my phone and was happy to see that we had won.

I think I am going to go to bed early tonight to catch up with the lost sleep from last night.

Baker calls this the best regular season game he has ever watched.

I still think I Can Haz Frabklin night was better, but for most fans I definitely see why this tops it. This was amazing too, going back through it (I only caught the last few innings)
Ah, and he explains what that batting practice show is going to be about.
Want a nightmare?

Try watching the recording of last night’s game starting at 1 a.m. EST only to have the recording stop with a 1-1 count to Griffey in the bottom of the 14th. I was up past 3 a.m. and didn’t even see the final drama. Dammit.

My god that sucks!
