This happened to me during the Jays games during that unbearably hot week.
This French(-Canadian?) family brought several sun umbrellas into the 300-level. Took them several minutes to realize there were people behind them wanting to watch the game. They eventually surrendered.
More trips to the mound. Let’s have someone lose a contact lens. RR-S could take a twitter break. Wak could try to pull a double switch or argue balls and strikes.
Put on the brakes. Get the victory while we still have the lead, please.
I fucking hate the fucking fact that I fucking missed everything in this game so far and that fucking Gameday doesn't fucking have any fucking highlights.
if I’m remembering right, plays from the top of the sixth only don’t count if they change the outcome of the game, but since we were leading before the sixth began, the plays would stand
I went over to Bless You Boys (no commenting, don’t worry) to see the Washburn reaction. It’s like a turn of the millennium chat room in there. Thanks J/G/M for preventing that. I feel so dirty now…
And if you're at all good, you can see a lot more than what ERA, errors, and BA tell you.
Watching a pitcher give up lots of deep fly balls, or get into lots of jams only to turn double plays, is a clear sign that he’s not as good as his numbers. And traditionalists at least have a chance to pick up on that. Fantasy baseball has no clue.
Hass felt that if a team had a lot of errors it meant they had a bad defense, and a team with few errors must mean they were really good defensively. A caller even got in on it, trying to point out that someone like Adrian had errors because he got close to balls that other would let by, and Hass felt that he rather have an infielder that made the plays he should make, and not try to get fancy.
I know everyone's a little sensitive over a loss that probably devastates me even more....
But I have been respectful here for the few times I comment every several months.
(And use proper English!)
I didn’t know your 300 pixel limitations, or else I would have followed them.
I’m not sure why everyone pounced or why it needs to be cloaked like it was something offensive.
Hyphen could be throwing a no-hitter.

Good question
Poochie - August 20, 2009

Poochie - August 20, 2009

Amazing.
Decatur - August 20, 2009
I saw it and was thinking of sharing.
Eyebrows - August 20, 2009
But you cut off the best part from the last comment.
Eyebrows - August 20, 2009
Well, that wasn't quite as stupid,
since PECOTA and UZR actually ARE sabremetric-type stats, and plenty of great baseball fans (my dad, for one) get bored as hell by them.
But I’ll fire it up anyway.
Decatur - August 20, 2009
PECOTA is not a stat!
Eyebrows - August 20, 2009
PECOTA's not a statistic but ok
Graham MacAree - August 20, 2009
Projection, sorry.

So, while I was gone ...
they smacked Jarrod around, and then the rains came? How is RRS doing?
msb - August 20, 2009
Alternating between really good and uh ohs
Jeff Sullivan - August 20, 2009
Brock just wondered about whether he could get a fine for the loud expletive, so I gather it got testy there at the end
loss of control with the rain, or was it the ump?
msb - August 20, 2009
To be fair, I don't think the HRs were that uh oh
Matthew - August 20, 2009
Walks, couple other long flies
Jeff Sullivan - August 20, 2009
Bill Haselman thinks errors are the be-all and end-all of measuring defense.
Salk and a caller are both trying to explain to him that it is not so. Really.
msb - August 20, 2009
Oh Bill Haselman not Brock. Shit I must be tired
gregrabble - August 20, 2009
Brock was the one repeatedly saying 'WORP' over and over
and not letting Salk get a word in edgewise. It was rather annoying.
ralphie81 - August 20, 2009
I think Brock right now is arguing that not making any errors is more important than having good range
Although I’m not positive
gregrabble - August 20, 2009
Haselman wants a player to make the plays he should make, and not get fancy trying to make the other ones.
msb - August 20, 2009

Why not?
Smegmalicious - August 20, 2009
He says that and "No question about it" like a broken record, it seems.
BrettJMiller - August 20, 2009

In fact, my roommate and I have a ’finish your drink when Blowers says “why not” rule. It leads to blackouts.
Smegmalicious - August 20, 2009
I missed your joke due to stupidity. I like the game though!
BrettJMiller - August 20, 2009

Smegmalicious - August 20, 2009
Honorable deaths, at least.

He didn’t finish his sentence.

That must be it

I'm pre-rationalizing by telling myself that hey, Miguel Cabrera is really good.

Oh hey cool

Which explains why Shawn Kelley is good, I guess.

YEAHHHH POP OUT
I don’t understand how that ball is so often misjudged.
BrettJMiller - August 20, 2009
Okay I hate Rizzs.
It’s like he takes advantage of the fact that we can’t see what’s happening and artificially makes things sound ten times scarier than they are.
BrianL - August 20, 2009
I love Guti's smirk in the Gamecast picture

Josh Wilson has been taking lessons from his older brother!

Graham MacAree - August 20, 2009
Dan knew how to catch, let me tell ya

it's like you guys don't even care about the White Sox.
colintj - August 20, 2009
Should we?
BrianL - August 20, 2009
I am glad that Detroit won.
I hope they win the central.

Everyone is happier when Ozzie Guillen cries
serotonein - August 20, 2009
Who?
ThundaPC - August 20, 2009
The mistake we made was getting ahead
We always lose when we are ahead
Poochie - August 20, 2009
At least we made Washburn feel like he took a
recent trip to prison where he dropped the soap
Yoyogi - August 20, 2009
He was put in that prison after being convicted for statch amirite
Poochie - August 20, 2009
The blind leading the blind.
Vinnie & Haselman.
msb - August 20, 2009
I'm sure this has been pointed out already
but you aren’t forced to listen, you know.
Eyeball Kid - August 20, 2009
I hoped they would go back to Salk.
msb - August 20, 2009
Plus, Drayer.
msb - August 20, 2009
But hey where else are you going to find out Wak is a players coach, not a coaches coach.
You know you’re in trouble when even New York Vinnie cuts you off and says you’ve got your head up your ass.

Did Brock and Salk really gang up on Hasselmen regarding defensive metrics?
BrianL - August 20, 2009
Yup.
Hass felt that if a team had a lot of errors it meant they had a bad defense, and a team with few errors must mean they were really good defensively. A caller even got in on it, trying to point out that someone like Adrian had errors because he got close to balls that other would let by, and Hass felt that he rather have an infielder that made the plays he should make, and not try to get fancy.
msb - August 20, 2009
Having crazy range is fancy?
BrianL - August 20, 2009
I know everyone's a little sensitive over a loss that probably devastates me even more....
But I have been respectful here for the few times I comment every several months.
(And use proper English!)
I didn’t know your 300 pixel limitations, or else I would have followed them.
I’m not sure why everyone pounced or why it needs to be cloaked like it was something offensive.
Great game everyone. Cheers!
homesickalien - August 20, 2009
I read the tag line "could this game be going any better" and thought...
oh shit we have been cursed. I was right.
MarinerFaninAZ - August 20, 2009
Sooo what time do the Sounders play?
BrianL - August 20, 2009

Kirsten Schlewitz - August 20, 2009
Neat, thanks.
BrianL - August 20, 2009
