and will get another chance, but Billy Wagner isn’t and won’t. That’s the only thing making me rather see the Braves (see: most boring team in baseball) take it over the Giants, who are my favorite team. I just feel pangs for Billy, and Jeff’s recent numbers on him hopefully had some similar effect on some others.
Pre-ESPN MLB contract and prior the expansion of the M’s local broadcast deal to include home games, the Braves were the only game on every night, but I got tired of having to watch “America’s Team.”
I have more sympathy for the Giants, given the drought, but have never liked them, despite a classy looking cap.
Not really slagging him off, it was just surprising to hear such a confident and cocky attitude from a major league pitcher.
Most players are so reserved in post-game interviews. Kind of a nice change of pace, I guess, but it will be really funny if he gets rocked by the Braves.
My dream was that the Braves would win it and Cox and Chipper would go off into the sunset.
Now that isn’t happening. But I still think Cox winning it would be pretty damn cool. Of all the “legendary” managers, he’s the most likeable (which is weird, given that he’s the stereotypical crotchety old man), and I’d like a nice sendoff. At the very least, I hope they lose at home in the NLCS.
Because I actually went and watched them play earlier this year at their beautiful stadium. Pat Burrell ripped a line drive into the stands and drilled a lady 5 rows in front of me right in the face. Blood was everywhere. So I think that if the Giants win, this lady might feel better, which is why I’m going for the Giants.
GIANTS GIANTS GIANTS

GIANTS GIANTS GIANTS
seattlebruin - October 4, 2010
Giants all the way. I deeply regret not buying NLDS tickets.
Joe Metro - October 4, 2010
Braves Braves Braves!
E-Lizz - October 4, 2010
This quarter I just flipped says Let's Go Braves!
Goose - October 4, 2010
Where did you get that quarter?
Matthew - October 4, 2010
I do not think it is redeemable
Jeff Sullivan - October 4, 2010
I'll throw it in with the Itchy and Scratchy dollars
Matthew - October 4, 2010
WHOOOO GO GIANTS!!
Fun team. Despite the insanity of the Jim Bowden tribute OF.
TheBishop - October 4, 2010
These two teams are literally my two
least favorite NL teams. None of the above.
spencer peaty - October 4, 2010
Padres really screwed themselves over the last month+
And how can you root for your natural rivals?
marcello - October 4, 2010
.
This would be how.
Eyeball Kid - October 4, 2010
Yeah
I remember reading that. My question was mostly tongue in cheek.
marcello - October 4, 2010
Because my actual team is a pile of shit and our rivals are right to think we're retarded
Jeff Sullivan - October 4, 2010
The Padres are my second favorite team. =(
joof - October 4, 2010
I love Posey almost as much as Felix ♥
George702 - October 4, 2010
If I root for any team this October like they were my own, it is the Giants.
Kenneth Arthur - October 4, 2010
Braves. Fuck the Giants for beating the Padres
Griffin Cooper - October 4, 2010
This one's easy. Braves.
Teej - October 4, 2010
GIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIANTS!!!!
Robert - October 4, 2010
It's good to see this again though it's kind of unfair here
ignacio - October 4, 2010
I have a cousin's sentiments to look out for,
so Giants it is.
SeattExPat - October 4, 2010
We Giants fans appreciate the support of 68% of you
And we humbly request hilarious .gifs.
In return, you are welcome to come into our game day threads and talk about lunch or whatever.
GiantPain - October 4, 2010
Is Andres Torres really your son
Griffin Cooper - October 4, 2010
Nein
We have a tradition on McCovey Chronicles of “adopting” players – we have a draft at the beginning of the year, and everyone can get a son.
I picked Andres. Good choice.
GiantPain - October 4, 2010
There would be riots as all of LL would try to adopt Felix.
JAH - October 4, 2010
except seattlebruin
pdb - October 4, 2010
Wait what?
seattlebruin - October 4, 2010
I was assuming you could only adopt one player and, well, y'know
pdb - October 4, 2010
Not a Mariner for very much longer
seattlebruin - October 4, 2010
and stupid joof would probably beat me there anyway
seattlebruin - October 4, 2010
I would run a smokescreen and than take Smoak. He's my new favorite since Lopez is going to Carlos Guillen all over somewhere.
joof - October 4, 2010
I'm pretty sure it would be obvious that you were just running a smoakscreen
seattlebruin - October 4, 2010
Groan.
JAH - October 4, 2010
I thought about making this pun, but then I realized that it was terrible.
joof - October 4, 2010
And way too easy.
joof - October 4, 2010
And look who ended up with the recs
seattlebruin - October 4, 2010
If I had made the pun, I wouldn't have gotten the recs.
I am the Stockton to your Malone.
joof - October 4, 2010
Sorry Loafie, back to Honest Bender's Discount Orphanarium
JAH - October 4, 2010
I will only attend your gamethreads if you promise me that Mike Singleterry will be there as well.
Robert - October 4, 2010
No doubt with his pants on the ground
With the way things are going, he might have plenty of time to waste watching the Giants very soon.
marcello - October 4, 2010
He's too busy
Going out and hitting people in the mouf.
It couldn’t get any worse!
GiantPain - October 4, 2010
Is there any way you can get the rest of MCC to use subject lines?
Joe Metro - October 4, 2010
Hah.
We observe no conventions.
GiantPain - October 4, 2010
Your threads are too active
We like it quiet and morose
Jeff Sullivan - October 4, 2010
Morose, we can do
Quiet, not so much.
Do not go quietly into that good night
Rage, rage, rage against the OH MY GOD WHY IS JOSE GUILLEN STILL STARTING IN RIGHT FIELD
GiantPain - October 4, 2010
Tim Lincecum is my favorite non-Mariner.
So yeah. Go Giants.
moyerLIVES - October 4, 2010
I just can't bring myself to root for the Giants under any circumstances
Plus Bobby Cox is a Brave
Corco - October 4, 2010
Bobby Cox is white, don't believe everything you saw in Dances With Wolves
seattlebruin - October 4, 2010
I...don't even know where to begin responding to that.
I’ll just leave it at- Nice.
Corco - October 4, 2010
Lincecum, Posey, and Wilson are still young
and will get another chance, but Billy Wagner isn’t and won’t. That’s the only thing making me rather see the Braves (see: most boring team in baseball) take it over the Giants, who are my favorite team. I just feel pangs for Billy, and Jeff’s recent numbers on him hopefully had some similar effect on some others.
tsunamijesus - October 4, 2010
For some reason I thought Billy Wagner had won a world series before.
Either way, he just had a great season, so it’s not like this is his last opportunity. And I would have never thought of the Giants as “young”
Kenneth Arthur - October 4, 2010
He is retiring after the year
Jeff Sullivan - October 4, 2010
Hmmm... well I'll just casually start backpedalling my way out of this subthread.
Kenneth Arthur - October 4, 2010
If the Padres were never in contention for first I would vote Giants
But those Assholes stabbed San Diego in the back and now I’m rooting for Atlanta.
BRAAAAAAAAAVESS!!!
Marinerfanjake - October 4, 2010
Dislike both teams for no good reason
Pre-ESPN MLB contract and prior the expansion of the M’s local broadcast deal to include home games, the Braves were the only game on every night, but I got tired of having to watch “America’s Team.”
I have more sympathy for the Giants, given the drought, but have never liked them, despite a classy looking cap.

I really do not like either of these teams.
Sec 108 - October 4, 2010
I honestly have no opinion about either one
they’re two slices of Wonder Bread in a large loaf of apathy.
pdb - October 4, 2010
At least they are not two slices of Wonder Bread under a slab of Gates BBQ ribs.
Because that is the only time I have felt the need to eat Wonder Bread.
Sec 108 - October 4, 2010
FUCK THE BRAVES
Poochie - October 4, 2010 via mobile
Both these teams cannot possibly go fuck themselves enough
lemonverbena - October 4, 2010
The Giants pitcher with the shitty beard was hilariously cocky in his post game interview after they clinched.
That guy seems like a wild man, better watch out Bravos!
sanford_and_son - October 4, 2010
DUDE YOU BETTER NOT BE SLAGGING OFF BRIAN WILSON
Eyeball Kid - October 4, 2010
He will straight up fuck your shit up! He's a ninja!
JAH - October 4, 2010
You do not want to face down this guy when the game is on the line!

sanford_and_son - October 4, 2010
Which interview did you watch?
In this one, he shows love to Buster Posey, the bullpen around him, the starters, and he says the San Diego Padres “basically just walloped us all year.”
Where’s the cocky hilarity?
Joe Metro - October 4, 2010
It was on Sportscenter
The tidbit I remember was “You don’t want to face us” in reference to other playoff teams.
sanford_and_son - October 4, 2010
I still dislike the Giants 'cause of Barry Bonds
and it’s OK with me if Bobby Cox gets some luck
ignacio - October 4, 2010
I despise the Braves and everything they stand for.
Freneau - October 4, 2010

Fuckmikereilly - October 4, 2010
Giants because of Jon Miller.
And forever blech to the Braves because of Chipper Jones and Ted Turner. But yay for Greg Maddux.
wazzu93 - October 4, 2010
I still harbour a deep and vitriolic grudge from boyhood when Maddux left the Cubs and went to the Braves. Unforgivable.
