A Quick Thought On Day 3 Of The Playoffs

I wasn't planning to write anything tonight, since it's a Friday and I'd like a bit of a break. I'm still not going to write much. I just have to in some way acknowledge the fact that it's been three days so far, and I don't know that I've ever had this much fun watching the playoffs. Certainly not since the Mariners began their ongoing nine-season drought.

We've had a no-hitter. We've had a game that was arguably better than the no-hitter. We had a third stellar gem, and a fourth terrific start that's now long forgotten. We've had umpire controversies. So many umpire controversies, in seemingly every single game. We've had a team beat the hardest documented thrower in Major League history not on hits, but on errors. And we've had a team that looked dead in the water rally against the best bullpen in the playoffs, escape an impossible situation in the tenth, and win it in the 11th on a home run by a walking 6'2 best-selling autobiography. That team held on after losing its closer to injury an inning before.

Tomorrow might suck. All the rest of the playoffs might suck. I don't care. This has already blown my mind.

Agreed.

Caouldn’t have asked for much more. Well, except that one thing.

Goddamn, I love baseball.
Don't forget the first ever SWEENDAWG playoff hit. Hugs.
These playoffs seem to have a whole different feel from the last several. I like it.
Man it sure has been nice to watch interesting baseball
After Wednesday I thought I was spoiled by one day of watching good baseball after six months of dreck

and it just keeps getting better.

All we need now is a true slugfest, and we'll have had basically the entire gamut of exciting baseball

in the divisional series. I know I’ve mocked the whole concept of divisional series, but whatever you think about the division structure, or Bud Selig, or the teams involved….this has been amazing.

I keep thinking Selig’s somewhere laughing as the stat people analyze the strength of the AL using interleague play data, and also at the fact that every baseball fan’s been completely enthralled by these playoffs. It’s like if Bavasi was right about Jose Vidro, Rick White, Rich Aurilia, Carlos Silva and Jarrod Washburn.

I took the "every year the playoffs suck so I'm not going to bother watching" approach.

…and now I am clinically depressed.

It's not too late!
If the Rays and Twins win tomorrow they could also add intrique to the mix.
I really wish I could detach myself from having rooting interest in certain teams.

It’d be nice to just watch the games as a neutral observer and enjoy them for what they are, but goddamn I hate the Yankees and I’m tired of seeing the Phillies in the playoffs. Every team that I was pulling for going into the playoffs is now down 0-2.

Just root for Mike Sweeney.
That's weird. Do you not have a rooting interest in the Giants/Braves series then?
I'd like to see the Braves win because of Bobby Cox, but I have no problem with the Giants advancing.
The playoffs have been great

but I cant help but feel that a big part of that is just watching pretty good baseball after months of utter shit. I don’t mean to take away from Lincecum, and Lee, and Halladay and Cain and all the rest.

No kidding.

I’m pulling for the Giants all the way, but just the good baseball in general is fun to see.

These three days have been awesome for sure, but until Mariners finally get back in...you know.
On a non-playoff related note:

I just checked the archives because I couldn’t remember who the third prospect the Yankees were offering for Cliff Lee, and reading all those stories about the trade made me excited that we got Smoak again. Maybe he’ll work out, maybe not, but I’m glad we get the chance to see him try.

SMMMMMMMMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK!
