Something That's Always Bothered Me About The Edgar Double Clip

Like a lot of people, I've spent the past several waking hours completely consumed by thoughts about Dave Niehaus. I've listened to the radio, I've zeroed in on all the interviews, and I've made a point of reading all the tributes. Embedded in a few of of those tributes was the following very familiar video clip of The Double:

We've all watched that highlight a million times over, and we can see Griffey running and hear Niehaus shouting when we close our eyes and lean back. But there's one part of it I forgot about, and one part that's always kind of driven me crazy. Fast-forward to the 0.28 mark.

Who brought a roll of toilet paper to the Kingdome?

I strangely never even though about that until you pointed it out.
I was wondering this last night as well.
I remember that.

As the celebration on the field went on I remember seeing that stuff fly out of the third deck, too (I was in the left field bleachers). My memory is that there was a lot of it and it was spaced out fairly evenly around the Kingdome as if it was coordinated.

In other news, my memory probably isn’t perfect.

Hey! it's cheap and easy celebratory decor!
You're right. There's nothing more festive and celebratory than a roll of toilet paper!
Perhaps it was stolen from one of the stalls?

That would be much less fun though.

I can imagine a fan who simply couldn't hold it in and then when he heard the ruckus ran out with the whole roll in his hand and just chucked it in pure ecstasy.
I like this version of the story!
Apparently you never ate a KingDog

It was standard procedure to eat a lukewarm KingDog and then shit your pants. I’m just surprised more people didn’t have TP with them.

I assume it had to have been Scruffy.
Thanks Jeff. I needed something funny like this tonight.
Are you sure it's toilet paper?

That’s not where my brother and I were sitting, but we stopped by the dollar store before the game and brought several rolls of streamers and confetti to throw. I always just assumed it was some other fan that thought ahead and brought streamers. It probably serves the same function either way.

Also, damn me for watching this clip at work. I’m all teary-eyed.

It's weird how the roll starts flying as soon as the camera pans to the crowd

And thank you for the goose-bumps

Something else has always bothered me...

At about the 25 second mark of the video, there are a bunch of guys running in from left field. I always figured it was the bullpen, but they aren’t coming in at the right angle. I’ve also thought it might be the grounds crew running in to save the field from a mob, like what happened in the one game playoff against the Angels.

I just can’t figure out why those guys are running in that fast from that angle.
