In 2004 Barry Bonds had a .609 on base percentage. That's insane of course, but what stuck in my mind about that numbers is that in 2010, the players used by the Seattle Mariners at designated hitter combined to post that same .609 number as their OPS.

We should have signed Bonds as our DH
while he still wasn’t formally retired (maybe he still isn’t).
A Bonds not seeing action for a year or two or three would still be better than all of our freaking batters except for Ichiro.
And who cares about the negative PR, it’s better than being the pathetic laughingstock of MLB.
We can laugh at ourselves (I’m all out of laughs though, because our batters asides of Ichiro are just too shitty they blew my mind and sense of humor) but other teams and fans are laughing even harder….

JI, after the dross (Everett, Vidro, etc.) that we had to suffer through, I would be more than happy wth average.
And bad fit or not, Vlad has mashed it at Safeco.
In 214 ABs his line is .350/.408/.603.
I would not say that’s a bad fit. And he was more than average last year, even in decline.
Vlad aside, the way the FO ignored Bonds is irritating, especially since they went so far as to half assedly think out of their goody two shoes freaking box and get relatively bad rep guys like Everett and Bradley, however, who were unsurprisingly unproductive.
Half assedly rarely works. They should have gone all the way and signed Bonds, PR be darned. It would have been better than being laughed at for being one of the most inept, feeble, dead offenses these past few years despite Ichiro giving them so many scoring chances.
Well at least they got rid of Jose Lopez finally but they should have signed Vlad last year (this year also). Signing Ibanez 7 years ago was a no-brainer, this also should have been one.

The most annoying thing about Ichiro
is that you can never categorically express how terrible our hitting is in a succinct manner because you always have to add in the clunky phrase “except for Ichiro.”

This is a fact and is interesting but not so much fun. A fun fact would have been if our DH position had an OPS that was double Bonds’ OPB. That is the kind of fun I am looking for.
