Says Evan Grant:
ARLINGTON - Mystery of the night at Rangers Ballpark: Did Milton Bradley offfer a rather impolite one-fingered salute to Rangers' fans? According to internet chatters, Seattle's Bradley didn't flip his lid during the game, but did flip something else.
The moment in question happened in the fourth inning after Chris Davis flied out to left field, where Bradley was playing. Though TV replays showed no incident, broadcast officials did say it appeared Bradley offered the gesture towards the stands. He was booed after the play.

Like Milton, I don't really consider the middle finger a big deal. However, I know a lot of people do, so this is a pretty bad way to not get negative attention.
(Note to fans of other teams that may conveniently choose to drop by: shut up. You didn't "show us." This isn't an incident. It's practically nothing.)

DrunkAmerican - April 10, 2010
So Milton is pissed at the Texas fans (or the Rangers?)
I don’t remember him doing anything to A’s fans in Oakland though, even though they boo’d him. He even tipped his cap at Rajai Davis.
Zonis - April 10, 2010
This was shortly after making a running catch right up against the foul wall in LF
The area fans, I imagine, were giving him shit, just like they do everywhere.
Jeff Sullivan - April 10, 2010
Everyone gets shit from road fans, most guys just laugh it off.
Andy Hellicksonstine - April 11, 2010
No one in baseball gets more abusive treatment from road fans than Milton Bradley does.
It’s not even close.
Decatur - April 12, 2010
Too bad he can't DH full time.
Janic - April 10, 2010
WHY can't he DH all the time?
Watching him in Oakland for a couple years, and seeing how much healthier he was in Texas when he refused to play the field and DH’d every day, then seeing him suck in Chicago, he definitely plays better when he is rested, and stays healthy when he DH’s. Why wouldn’t the Mariners just DH Bradley and put a Langerhans type player in the OF (if only they had a player like Langerhans around ;)
Zonis - April 10, 2010
We have a couple historical artifacts occupying the spot

Jeff Sullivan - April 10, 2010
Honestly I like it.
Milton is fun to watch. While everyone else is just doing their business, Milton throws a little flare. The only issue I have is if it causes him to get fined or suspended.
supershane - April 10, 2010
No, he throws a little flair.
If he threw flare, it would look something like this:
Except maybe without the rock-on hands.
(If I was good at photoshopping/if my computer wouldn’t explode opening the program, I would just put a road flare in MB’s hand.)
thehemogoblin - April 10, 2010
Completely unrelated,
But Jesus do I hate it when people hold out their thumb while doing that. Do they realize that hand signal means “I love you” in ASL? Probably not what they were going for there

A few years from now, a lot of you guys are going to realize that this was not your proudest moment as a community.
Jay - April 12, 2010
It's tough way to open the season for Bradley,
at ex-team Oakland, then at. ex-team Texas. Both teams intimately know how easy it is to get into Bradley’s head and (presumably) distract his game. It is too bad that your DH spot is already full: not only would it keep MB healthy longer, it would keep him from interacting with the fans, which he seems to insist upon doing.

Anyone have a proxy server working so we can watch the M’s game today. Stupid ass fox saturday blackouts.
I don’t want to watch the fucking Yankees every saturday afternoon this season
Nate Gubel - April 10, 2010
I was hoping someone would show Phillies/Astros
“here will be a strange time warp quality for the Astros and Phillies on Saturday, thanks to nostalgia and the presence of the game’s eldest statesman. Houston will be turning back the clock to 1965 and wearing representative uniforms Saturday, and the opposing starting pitcher, Philadelphia’s Jamie Moyer, happens to be the only active player who was alive at that point. "
msb - April 10, 2010
I'm pretty infuriated right now
Its not on Extra Innings and of course Fox is showing the Yankees game. How many times have they been on national television in the last week? Its ridiculous.
I’m out of market, but even though Fox isn’t showing the Mariners, will MLB.tv still be blacked out?

Okay, got it. I was wondering if they would actually broadcast it to anyone.
How can they pass up broadcasting a Yankee game to everyone?!

I'm not sure why some people here are so defensive about us former Bradley sufferers.
I’m a Cub fan who was very happy to see him go though when he showed up in Chicago I thought, “I sure hope he can stay cool cause the guy can rake”.
He proved many of us wrong and we don’t in any way wish ill upon Mariner fans. We simply can’t believe that he will EVER turn his shit around. Perhaps this is not an “incident” persay, but it is very much a sample of the type of human being he is.
The dude needs some serious therapy. Plain and simple. I hope fir you all he doesn’t pull the same shit in SEA but in all honesty, I doubt he can change as a person.

Dear Kinky Reggae
Please consider what we’ve had to put up with over the past several months rather than assuming all comments are made in a vacuum.
Jeff Sullivan - April 11, 2010
Please trust us, we understand.
I truly commented to let you all know you were not alone. We hoped he could change bc the guy can hit. He may change…I can’t say that. I suppose some Chicago posters have come here and made more inappropriate comments but I did not come here with ill intent. Somebody linked your post here.
Unfortunately I have not been witness to whatever you may have experienced over the past few months. Trust me, I am sure you all have plenty to say about Carlos Silva. This trade had no true upside that was apparent. Best case scenario…Bradley shuts up and Silva pitches.
Kinky Reggae - April 12, 2010
Most everyone who comment on this blog (not to mention all his current M's teammates) love Milton Bradley.
Almost all the fans of Bradley’s former teams who leave comments about him on LL have told us that we should give up on Bradley NOW – nevermind that there’s a full baseball season left to play. Don’t you see why that offends us and makes us circle the wagons?
Also, anyone on Lookout Landing who going to Bleed Cubbie Blue and says that Silva is a hopeless mess (or the like) will get one warning before being banned from LL for trolling other blogs.
Decatur - April 12, 2010
from what I read I cant see anywhere where kinky reggae was trolling here.
Bricks and Ivy - April 12, 2010
I didn't meant to say that he intended to troll when he came here. I was responding to "I am sure you all have plenty to say about Carolos Silva."
Decatur - April 13, 2010
That post is hard to understand but...
all I can say is I do not believe I was trolling. I was curious, that’s all. Of course I understand why you are all somewhat defensive about MB. We were too, hoping that things would turn around too. They could still. It’s only 7 games in.
I’m not saying give up. I have no intention of telling you all what to do with MB. I also wasn’t suggesting that you all want to bash Silva though all I have heard is how much of a bust he is/will be from most Mariner fans…not necessarily here.
Point is this, chill out, I am not here for anything but the read and unfortunately attempted to offer some friendly insight. My mistake.
Kinky Reggae - April 13, 2010
My money is on Bradley
being both (a) the better player by far and (b) the crazier player by far. Can’t see much upside on the Cubs side of that deal, but on the other hand, probably no arrests either.
Aw, Jeff … are we all that terrible?
Respectfully, I think it is a big deal when a player gives fans the finger. I remember in mid-2007, when Cliff Lee was really struggling, and he had to walk back to the dugout in the face of a few thousand jeering fans. He tipped his cap to the hometown fans in what generally was seen as a sarcastic gesture, and people just blew up about it. In retrospect, it could just as well have been interpreted as a gesture of “Yeah, I know, deserve your booing.” Reading Cliff’s comments a year or two afterwards, that does seem to be what was going through his mind, but that’s not how it was seen at the time.
Anyway, my point is just that if a tip of the cap can be seen as sarcastic and offensive, then what the heck is this?
Jay - April 12, 2010
An immature yet insignificant decision
This is literally only news because it’s Milton.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2010
Seriously?
You don’t think ANY player would make news for giving fans the finger?
I sure do. If anything, I think it’s less newsworthy because it’s Milton.
Jay - April 13, 2010
anyway
it’s not my intention to antagonize one of my favorite bloggers, so that’ll be all from me.
Jay - April 13, 2010
They were talking about this for a whole five-minute segment on some ESPN show two days after it happened
That doesn’t happen were it pretty much anyone else. The finger will always raise an eyebrow, but it tends to be forgotten as quickly as it occurred.
Jeff Sullivan - April 14, 2010
another guy
You might find this interesting … Jay Bruce gives the finger times two …
http://cincinnati.com/blogs/reds/2010/04/13/bruce-apologizes-for-gesture/
This was “a story” — reported in the media — but a Google News search reveals that there was less coverage for this than for Bruce’s recent slump, or his recently overturned home run.
One could argue that it’s different in that Bruce seems to be playfully giving the finger to one of his teammates, perhaps answering an earlier taunt, rather than angrily addressing it to fans. Then again, one could argue that’s just a matter of interpretation — clearly Bradley couldn’t get away with a “playful” flip of the bird.
Not sure what this shows, one way or the other, but it’s an interesting data point for comparison.
Jay - April 14, 2010
Maybe fans and the press should chill out and not expect every player to be Mahatma fucking Ghandi.
