This stupid phone doesn’t auto capitalize letters on this site, but none the less this was my first non Safeco/Kingdome game so I’m quite pleased with the outcome.
I love Wak and I think he’s one of the best managers in baseball, but that was easily the worst decision he’s made as Mariners manager. I understand letting Wilson bunt, but Figgins is a better hitter than Jr, less likely to DP and wasn’t siting on the bench all game. That move made zero sense.
Hopefully, Wak will realize Moore is the better fit for this organization.
For the case of Sweeney, I don’t even know. I wanted Garko so bad in this lineup. I am still pissed about how M’s decided to choose Sweeney over Garko. I personally think ST stats are very unreliable.
The DH situation is a wildly easy fix (Langerhans/Byrnes platoon in left, Bradley to DH), Johnson somehow persists despite being horrible at offense and defense,
Sweeney, bullpen management, etc. We could use better decisions.
how much that win expectancy chart resembles real estate values over the last 10 years? Anyway, that was a really fun win, DTFT is a treat to watch. Lee and Bedard need to come back soon, we might really be on to something then.
for making sure I was completely prevented from watching the best game of the new season. Thanks fuckers! I will not be paying you for a baseball package..
It's weird, but I'm not considered local area by Fox.
I guess being five hours outside of the metro area isn’t considered local. Though MLBN fucks me when they have M’s games on. Good thing FSN covers those for me.
Wrong one?

Seems like a perfectly fair ballot to me.
esoteric - April 10, 2010
Does ANYBODY have a replay of the catch?
I hate you MLB.TV.
DrunkAmerican - April 10, 2010
This at least gives me something to look forward to tonight.
Can’t wait for the archive of the game to come out on MLB.TV tonight.
MFAN - April 10, 2010
Really.
This is my first season with it so I’m not really familiar with its features. Is it just the full game that gets uploaded?
DrunkAmerican - April 10, 2010
Nope. Highlights as well. Usually they're the ones you're looking for (well-chosen in other words) but not always.
esoteric - April 10, 2010
They also have a condensed game which is pretty cool.
Shows you the last pitch of every AB.
MFAN - April 10, 2010
That Gameday screenshot recording the out over the fence was pretty cool
Likely be something on the M’s website in a couple hours.
Kermit. - April 10, 2010
This is what Kermit is referencing I assume
Slurvey - April 10, 2010
Just recorded it off my TV and uploading it now.
Will post the link once it is ready.

Here's a link to the video.
It’s a little choppy, but it should suffice now.

Thank you for this.
Love seeing Ichiro’s reaction.
Bicycle Rider - April 10, 2010
Same here.
That would be my exact reaction if I ever met any M’s player in person
JBell523 - April 10, 2010
Except Rob Johnson
Fuck him
JBell523 - April 10, 2010
Still blowing my mind.
He covered so much ground in so little time.
Fearless Frog - April 10, 2010
Thanks! F'n Gameday.
Guti makes jumping about 10 feet through the air look so damn easy.
jwolf0 - April 10, 2010
Sweet fancy Moses.
DrunkAmerican - April 10, 2010
Wow
Excellent. Perfect game situation, sweet Ichiro reaction, already adds on to a huge game by Franklin
fortyniners - April 10, 2010
He makes it look so damn effortless.
MFAN - April 10, 2010
At this rate...
Felix will be 0-0-34, and I will want to stab my eyes out.
But damn that was a great way to end the game!
doublemazaa - April 10, 2010
34 ties?
BRKLN M'S - April 10, 2010
No decisions
doublemazaa - April 10, 2010
It'll be weird.

Rob Johnson with the +.131
Gotta love WPA, blind like lady justice :)
blueside714 - April 10, 2010
Rob Johnson, much like the Mets franchise, is a loser even when he wins.
esoteric - April 10, 2010
Can't believe we lost this one
Season over?
Robert - April 10, 2010
Griffey's fault.
ThundaPC - April 10, 2010
-.028 awwwwwwww.
Sorry Felix.
the other side - April 10, 2010
He's lucky not to get the loss
Scrupio - April 10, 2010
No
Graham MacAree - April 10, 2010
He wouldn't have taken the loss had we not scored in the 9th?
Scrupio - April 10, 2010
Normally we don't pretend that only one part of the day was influenced by luck
Graham MacAree - April 10, 2010
Felix was also unlucky to have the offense score so few runs early in the game.
You can’t just ignore the first eight innings.
Matthew - April 10, 2010
Ok let me rephrase my comment
It was probable that Felix would have taken the loss entering the 9th inning, but due to some hitting regression by the hitters he did not.
Scrupio - April 10, 2010
Yeah, it's a bit nitpicky to force you to clarify this. I think we all understood what you meant originally.
Felix pitched a decent game all-around, but he would have taken the loss had a bunch of stuff not happened in the 9th.
esoteric - April 10, 2010
Given his performance, he was unlucky to not get the W.
DrunkAmerican - April 10, 2010
What
DrunkAmerican - April 10, 2010
He's unlucky to be on the same team as Rob Johnson
BRKLN M'S - April 10, 2010
There it is.
the other side - April 10, 2010
Someone do the "Mariner Fans' Expectations Chart" for this game
Allen Wu - April 10, 2010
Season Expectations
Allen Wu - April 10, 2010

I did not get to watch the whole game so I can't :/ else I would

Got back right before 9th inning got under way though :D

Bachelor frog agrees.
w00tah - April 10, 2010

blueside714 - April 10, 2010
I still
don’t get why Figgins was PH for by Griffey
barabuski - April 10, 2010
I assume Griffey demanded some playing time since we were losing.
Turned out to be great, so I don’t care less
Ef the yankees - April 10, 2010
Yeah
But I still don’t see any sort of reasoning behind it, unless Figgins had a nagging injury or something
barabuski - April 10, 2010
I mentioned it in the game thread.
MFAN - April 10, 2010
Time for us to look for a intelligent manager?
Frankly, I am totally fine with Wak being M’s manager.
Ef the yankees - April 10, 2010
Huh? As I said, I love Wak but that was a bad decision.
MFAN - April 10, 2010
Missed that part.
My bad.
Ef the yankees - April 10, 2010
No problem.
MFAN - April 10, 2010
I'm not happy with the apparent influence he has on the roster
Rob Johnson is his baby, I’m pretty sure the Sweeney thing is his fault, and he does weird things to the bullpen all the time.
Graham MacAree - April 10, 2010
That's a fair point
But even so, I’m more worried that he isn’t giving us the best chance to win each game with his decisions during games.
barabuski - April 10, 2010
It doesn't help when you handcuff yourself by keeping 2 very shitty DHs.
abender20 - April 10, 2010
To be fair, part of the Johnson blame has to go to Felix.
I don’t care if you want a personal catcher.
Get a GOOD personal catcher.
the other side - April 10, 2010
He's signed long term now.
Incentive: gone!
Graham MacAree - April 10, 2010
Pretty sure Felix would learn to deal with throwing to Moore
Rob is his catcher because Wakamatsu lets him be his catcher.
OlSalty - April 10, 2010
Hopefully, Wak will realize Moore is the better fit for this organization.
For the case of Sweeney, I don’t even know. I wanted Garko so bad in this lineup. I am still pissed about how M’s decided to choose Sweeney over Garko. I personally think ST stats are very unreliable.
Ef the yankees - April 10, 2010
Hopefully we can somehow steal Kurt Suzuki from the A's.
Eyeball Kid - April 10, 2010
Or Mike Napoli from the Angels.
seattle_since_81 - April 10, 2010
After all. they don't seem to want him
Eyeball Kid - April 10, 2010
C'mon, Mathis is a fucking monster.
JLProck - April 10, 2010
The DH situation is a wildly easy fix (Langerhans/Byrnes platoon in left, Bradley to DH), Johnson somehow persists despite being horrible at offense and defense,
Sweeney, bullpen management, etc. We could use better decisions.
abender20 - April 10, 2010
I'm going to guess he thinks Figgins isn't swinging it real well right now, and that Griffey
had a better chance to lift the ball into the outfield for a sac fly.
Of course this still doesn’t make sense given each player’s current talent level, as well as the fact Griffey could have easily hit into a DP
Rudy4three - April 10, 2010
Did anyone else notice . . .
how much that win expectancy chart resembles real estate values over the last 10 years? Anyway, that was a really fun win, DTFT is a treat to watch. Lee and Bedard need to come back soon, we might really be on to something then.

DTFT?
I assume the F stands for Felix…?
RunningFool - April 10, 2010
Death to Flying Things.
BrianL - April 10, 2010
I think Gutierrez could be successful as a Olympic sprinter after the catch.
Look at how fast his legs are moving. Thank God he is playing baseball, and for the Mariners
Ef the yankees - April 10, 2010
First step is Guti's only real issue.
Medium distance would be his strength. 100-200m. The <50m is decided in the first four steps.
harkening - April 10, 2010
I was unaware that there is an olympic 50 meter dash.
Kirk - April 10, 2010
I would like to hereby congratulate MLB and Fox

You can’t tell me not everyone likes the Yankees.
the other side - April 10, 2010
This has probably been asked thousands of times
But why are these charts different from Jeff’s? Not complaining, just wondering.
JBell523 - April 10, 2010
I think Jeff makes his own, witty pictures and all.
Matthew copied this one from Fangraphs.com, where you can always see live win percentages.
doublemazaa - April 10, 2010
Jeff makes his own in Excel.
Matthew - April 10, 2010
I think he's asking why Jeff's WPA and WE are different than Fangraphs.
Jeff makes his own, but the numbers are usually a little off.
harkening - April 10, 2010
Jeff isn't a computer and can assign credit on judgment calls
Matthew - April 10, 2010
He's not?
