I am 100% sure that there would be cries of, "DAMN, FUCKING ANGELS BASEBALL."
Or “FUCKING BLOOPERS FUCK!” If it was right between them, as the Ichiro Chone one was, only the people who had an axe to grind against Lopez would be whining.

He’s come to terms with sucking. He’s been taking more pitches. New Rob isn’t any good, he’s less bad. But he has a .366 OBP and takes more than 4 pitches per PA.
Sheffield broke for the plate and first baseman Kevin Young threw home, where Kendall tagged out Sheffield cleanly but solidly as he came in standing up. Kendall objected to Sheffield knocking off the catcher’s helmet while getting tagged out at home. Kendall used what umpire Jerry Crawford termed “baseball words,” and Sheffield reacted violently.
The two players began to tangle and the benches and bullpens emptied.
“He came by and slapped me in the head and knocked my helmet off,” Kendall said. “I mean, if you’re going to run me over, then run me over and I’ll tip my cap to you. But he slapped me in the head and I thought it was a weak play. A couple of words were said and that was it.”
Rob Johnson hits a long fly ball to left with less than two outs and Milton Bradley at third. Mariners fan dreads this situation because clearly Bradley will blow out something in his knee and flop to the ground making it a double play and ending the inning.
I’m keeping track of the game on Game Day and I just discovered that each pitch has a release speed and a result speed. Lowe losses some where between 8-10 MPH on his fastball for each pitch. If Lowe were throwing a really good change would the release be in the upper 90’s and the result be in the low 80’s? Or am I just retarded and should ignore the two numbers?
In pitchfx, they measure velocity near release (a standard spot like 51' from the plate) and near the plate.
A pitched ball slows down considerably between the hand and the plate, and that’s what you’re seeing – both numbers.
In general, any velocity reading isn’t taken where the ball crosses the plate, but when it’s released, so the upper 90s numbers are what you’re used to.
Do you guys remember when Rizzs used to refer to Willie as “Boom boom” Bloomquist because he accidently hit a home run at some point. Talk about one of the least fitting nick names.

"Bedard admits to being media shy, didn’t learn to speak English until junior college and favors the Ottawa Senators hockey team over the nearby Montreal Canadiens. "
Made me less emotionally invested in the game. Why are they having a day game in KC on a Wednesday anyway? This is the least amount of a game I’ve watched all year.
Great inning boys!!
E-Lizz - April 28, 2010
We can still do it!
Poochie - April 28, 2010
This is what you get for not adding on when your No. 2 hitter triples with no outs
calim - April 28, 2010
I just woke up.
Since it’s tied, I apparently missed nothing.
RunningFool - April 28, 2010
Oh how wrong you are...
seattlesundevil - April 28, 2010
I hate this Jimmy John's commercial
but it’s better than any other sub place’s commercials.
Mariner John - April 28, 2010
That's an awfully low bar to clear.
BrianL - April 28, 2010
Subway can die a fiery death.
Mariner John - April 28, 2010
My goodness yes.
BrianL - April 28, 2010
Yay bullpen!
Allen Wu - April 28, 2010
You're not fucking kidding.
the other side - April 28, 2010
So how long until Rob Johnson is realized?
Coach Owens - April 28, 2010
Huh
Jeff Sullivan - April 28, 2010
Rob Johnson is a concept.
Eyebrows - April 28, 2010 via mobile
Released.
I was thinking about something else and it completely messed up my typing.
Coach Owens - April 28, 2010
Realized?
bluemax - April 28, 2010
I realize him every day.
SO HARD
appleshampoo - April 28, 2010

I kind of agree.

This fucking team.
James F'n X - April 28, 2010
Peanuts...Awesome.
the other side - April 28, 2010
Indeed.
James F'n X - April 28, 2010
No, that's the
Royals.
Eyeball Kid - April 28, 2010
That was not a sharp inning from RRS by any means...
…but all 4 of those runs are on Ichiro.
Ian Smell - April 28, 2010
I agree. RRS can't be hitting and walking guys, but that inning is over at 5-1, if Ichiro
judges that ball properly
Rudy4three - April 28, 2010
By the sounds of it all sorts of people have had problems judging flyballs today because of weather conditions.
BrianL - April 28, 2010
The wind is raising hell for all outfielders today.
Benne - April 28, 2010
Yeah, but he gave up on that ball. Figgins had not shot. I would have liked to have seen him just
sprint and see if he could get near it, as opposed to just jogging and starting at Figgins
Rudy4three - April 28, 2010
If Ichiro is having a hard time reading it because of wind I'd prefer he pull up and keep it in front of him.
BrianL - April 28, 2010
It was a little bloop, not like it was gonna do much damage if it go by him. It would have bounced
a foot or two
Rudy4three - April 28, 2010
Yuni / Endy situation all over again
seattlesundevil - April 28, 2010
Bullshit.
Eyeball Kid - April 28, 2010
Ichiro should have caught that ball. End of story.
We all love him, but that was inexcusable for a 9 time all-star.
Ian Smell - April 28, 2010
I don't know if it's inexcusable, but it was not a good read/attempt
Rudy4three - April 28, 2010
Not inexcusable for a good chunk of MLB outfielders, but for Ichiro...
…it’s inexcusable.
Ian Smell - April 28, 2010
For some reason it's hard to take you seriously with that username.
the other side - April 28, 2010
I was just thinking the same thing.
wyte_lightning - April 28, 2010
Jesus Christ, talk about overreacting.
Mariner John - April 28, 2010
Let's say Lopez didn't get to a routine popup...
It would be: OMG I HATE LOAFIE…FUCK YOU FATASS!
But when Ichiro doesn’t do something right you would never know unless you were watching the game. He should have caught that. I don’t know how you
Ian Smell - April 28, 2010
... can fight that.
Ian Smell - April 28, 2010
No, it's because it was an in between play.
I’m guessing that Figgins called for it and Ichiro didn’t want to run into him. Also the wind has been a bitch all day.
Mariner John - April 28, 2010
Lets say Lopez didn't get to a Popup right inbetween him and Milton Bradley.
It would be, “DAMN. The royals are playing Angels baseball.”
joof - April 28, 2010
I would hardly expect such optimism on a game thread for Mariner fans.
Ian Smell - April 28, 2010
That's optimism?
Mariner John - April 28, 2010
It's certainly not pessimism. Or negative. Or profane.
As close as you can get to optimism when something doesn’t go the Mariners’ way.
Ian Smell - April 28, 2010
I am 100% sure that there would be cries of, "DAMN, FUCKING ANGELS BASEBALL."
Or “FUCKING BLOOPERS FUCK!” If it was right between them, as the Ichiro Chone one was, only the people who had an axe to grind against Lopez would be whining.
joof - April 28, 2010
That was just a lucky bloop
Jeff Sullivan - April 28, 2010
Does RRS have options left?
I Lick Squirrels - April 28, 2010
The BB and HBP were annoying, but otherwise I thought he pitched ok. Certainly not 4 runs bad.
ty540 - April 28, 2010
Without actually looking I really doubt it
Griffin Cooper - April 28, 2010
No
Jeff Sullivan - April 28, 2010
We're getting a pinch hit Griffeydong today
Poochie - April 28, 2010

the other side - April 28, 2010
Well Guti isn't having a good day
Griffin Cooper - April 28, 2010
Don't worry guys Lopez is up
Stormton - April 28, 2010
Why couldn't we just havea blowup nice and easy win.
This is not how I wanted to go into Cliff Lee Friday.
Ender15 - April 28, 2010
The game isn't even remotely over yet.
Fuckmikereilly - April 28, 2010
Our bullpen is definitely better than theirs
BrettJMiller - April 28, 2010
But they have 8 pitchers and we only have 7!
Mariner John - April 28, 2010
Strength in numbers right!
the other side - April 28, 2010
I know it's not over but tying it raises my blood pressure.
I just wanted a nice and easy win. We RARELY get those.
Ender15 - April 28, 2010
I cannot believe we are going to lose this series
Griffin Cooper - April 28, 2010
The game isn't even remotely over yet.
Fuckmikereilly - April 28, 2010
Really? I thought that was the top of the 9th just now
Griffin Cooper - April 28, 2010
Also I thought we were losing 11-6
Griffin Cooper - April 28, 2010
What game am I watching
Griffin Cooper - April 28, 2010
Good question.
Hope you work that out.
the other side - April 28, 2010
Thanks I'm gonna go do some research
Griffin Cooper - April 28, 2010
I thought this was the Royals' bullpen
Allen Wu - April 28, 2010
And we go like kittens in the 7th
skywaker9 - April 28, 2010
HEY GUESS WHO HAS THE WORSP FIP IN BASEBALL!!???
refuse2lose2010 - April 28, 2010
Why do you keep doing this?
CapSea - April 28, 2010
He's a dick.
Mariner John - April 28, 2010
I want the 5 best starters in the rotation.
Not a guy that had the worst FIP, even before getting shelled tonight.
refuse2lose2010 - April 28, 2010
One month, lefty, yadda yadda.
CapSea - April 28, 2010
Just saying, I don't want RRS to have some sort of immunity because of Wak's "Belief System".
It’s like just because Snell is new he didn’t get the benefit of the doubt, even though he has a had a couple really nice seasons.
refuse2lose2010 - April 28, 2010
It's been a while since Snell had a decent season.
BrianL - April 28, 2010
It's not immunity because of his belief system
It’s because he has been good more recently than Snell.
Mariner John - April 28, 2010
Because Snell is going to the bullpen and RRS is not.
refuse2lose2010 - April 28, 2010
Yeah, Snell has been a real ace.
Mariner John - April 28, 2010
Hey, if both guys are going to be wild, Snell is much better.
refuse2lose2010 - April 28, 2010
Ian Snell has been pretty bad.
BrianL - April 28, 2010
By the end of the season...
Carlos Silva.
Wilder. - April 28, 2010
His FIP is never that bad
because FIP doesn’t take into account line drives.
CapSea - April 28, 2010
Good point.

IS IT RRS?!?!!?!?!
wyte_lightning - April 28, 2010

Err
4.53 the year before.
Fuckmikereilly - April 28, 2010
FIPFIPFIPFIPFIP
Jesus Jones - April 28, 2010
This feels like the type of team that has to almost never lose when they score 5 runs, since they're so based on run prevention.
Games like this, whether we win or lose, are just extra annoying.
BrettJMiller - April 28, 2010
Man, those 88 MPH fastballs down the middle are tough.
Rollo Tomasi - April 28, 2010
Jose Lopez looks awful.
Eyeball Kid - April 28, 2010
Wow dropped 1.5 runs of his ERA. Good job M's.

Allen Wu - April 28, 2010
Nope
because that would make him harder to cut.
Eyeball Kid - April 28, 2010
He's not getting cut, so maybe we can have him be productive?

Dave Niehaus with a beautiful call of the stalking of the hot dog wrapper.

You're right.
He’s just been fantastic today. Strikeout, GIDP, passed balls. Brand new Rob Johnson.
Eyebrows - April 28, 2010 via mobile
It was kind of sarcastic.
Because he hasn’t been totally useless and takes pitches.
refuse2lose2010 - April 28, 2010
That doesn't sound like sarcasm
That sounds like a weak point that you are trying to back off from.
seattlesundevil - April 28, 2010
No I mean Rob has made real improvements with his approach.
But improving from what he was last year isn’t anything special.
refuse2lose2010 - April 28, 2010
So again, not sarcasm.
seattlesundevil - April 28, 2010
He's still totally useless
The fact that he takes pitches means something, but he was already so shitty it doesn’t make a difference on the overall player
cwel87 - April 28, 2010
So then it wasn't sarcastic
CapSea - April 28, 2010
Well normally saying "New [insert player]" would mean they are performing.
For Rob it means he isn’t a total useless hack, which is new for him.
refuse2lose2010 - April 28, 2010
So what you're saying is
that it wasn’t sarcastic.
CapSea - April 28, 2010
The new Rob?
The one that is exactly the same as before? Except somehow still unable to catch a ball?
seattlesundevil - April 28, 2010
Hey, he hit a homer in the opener.
the other side - April 28, 2010
I mean offensively.
He’s come to terms with sucking. He’s been taking more pitches. New Rob isn’t any good, he’s less bad. But he has a .366 OBP and takes more than 4 pitches per PA.
refuse2lose2010 - April 28, 2010
You are taking small samples too seriously.
And that still doesn’t sound like sarcasm.
CapSea - April 28, 2010

Kermit. - April 28, 2010
Whatever. If you've been watching Rob hit this year it's pretty clear.
I’m not the only one to notice it: He is taking a lot of pitches because of his approach, not some fluky series of events that raised his P/PA
refuse2lose2010 - April 28, 2010
This may come as a surprise but this is still not sarcasm.
CapSea - April 28, 2010
Yeah, I clearly have not been watching him hit this year...
And still not sarcasm.
seattlesundevil - April 28, 2010
'If Milton has to, he's gonna run over Kendall. Or certainly try to'.
I want this to happen so much.
Eyeball Kid - April 28, 2010
That'll be fine, too.
Eyeball Kid - April 28, 2010
Just reminded me
Sheffield broke for the plate and first baseman Kevin Young threw home, where Kendall tagged out Sheffield cleanly but solidly as he came in standing up.
A couple of words were said and that was it.”
msb - April 28, 2010
Sheffields forearms might be bigger than Kendall's neck.
That would have been fun to watch.

Mariner fan dread, exhibit #264
Rob Johnson hits a long fly ball to left with less than two outs and Milton Bradley at third. Mariners fan dreads this situation because clearly Bradley will blow out something in his knee and flop to the ground making it a double play and ending the inning.

skywaker9 - April 28, 2010
Did Blowers just confuse David Aardsma with Brad Ausmus?
Eyeball Kid - April 28, 2010
I think he called him Brad Aardsma
ignacio - April 28, 2010
Yeah, I was just wondering how he got there.
Eyeball Kid - April 28, 2010
We are going to need a GIF of that
from smart internet people.
weebs - April 28, 2010
It will be several hours
Jeff Sullivan - April 28, 2010
But this is a specific request for a .gif. I demand expediency!
TheBishop - April 28, 2010
cannot wait
i wish i knew how to do it myself.
weebs - April 28, 2010
Play a little add on
CzarCraz - April 28, 2010
Hughes is wild right now
skywaker9 - April 28, 2010
Why do we not bunt here?
yessirrr - April 28, 2010
It's a negative play
Particularly with a high OBP player batting.
Rollo Tomasi - April 28, 2010
I was thinking the same thing
jackyz - April 28, 2010
Seems like Chone has been at least showing bunt every AB.
Except when I thought he should have been.
yessirrr - April 28, 2010
Dusty Hughes is a great name.
CapSea - April 28, 2010
Sounds like a painting.
yessirrr - April 28, 2010
Sounds like a name for an oil pastel shop or something.
srm07 - April 28, 2010
Question:
I’m keeping track of the game on Game Day and I just discovered that each pitch has a release speed and a result speed. Lowe losses some where between 8-10 MPH on his fastball for each pitch. If Lowe were throwing a really good change would the release be in the upper 90’s and the result be in the low 80’s? Or am I just retarded and should ignore the two numbers?
InSpokane - April 28, 2010
In pitchfx, they measure velocity near release (a standard spot like 51' from the plate) and near the plate.
A pitched ball slows down considerably between the hand and the plate, and that’s what you’re seeing – both numbers.
In general, any velocity reading isn’t taken where the ball crosses the plate, but when it’s released, so the upper 90s numbers are what you’re used to.
marc w - April 28, 2010
Got it. Thanks.
InSpokane - April 28, 2010
Damn I hate these early games
EequalsMc2 - April 28, 2010
I love them myself
skywaker9 - April 28, 2010
Seriously.
I’ve had to watch this game in class.
E-Lizz - April 28, 2010
Sounds more entertaining than class.
Ender15 - April 28, 2010
We had our final review today, so I probably should have listened.
E-Lizz - April 28, 2010
But its a one run game!
yessirrr - April 28, 2010
Haha, I know. That's why I didn't listen to the review.
E-Lizz - April 28, 2010
My students are being quiet, because they know I'm engrossed in something over at my desk

Ender15 - April 28, 2010
I doubt it very much
Kaorikaze - April 28, 2010
No, not ready.
refuse2lose2010 - April 28, 2010

You can hear him a bit on the TV feed too.
Eyeball Kid - April 28, 2010
Can hear him on mlb.tv
Kaorikaze - April 28, 2010
Someone is yelling about Lou Piniella.
E-Lizz - April 28, 2010
Heckling Milton.
BrianL - April 28, 2010
Bradley should foul the ball of that dude's face.
That will shut him up.
E-Lizz - April 28, 2010
Haha at the fan heckling Milton.
“Lou Pinella says hello!”
Ender15 - April 28, 2010
This is an excellent example of a poor heckler
cwel87 - April 28, 2010
"Lets go, rally killer! Lou Piniella says hello!"
Dang… I LOVE MILTON!
srm07 - April 28, 2010
I love hearing the hecklers over the radio...
ExiledToSoCal - April 28, 2010
"Lou Piniella says hello"
Who knew hecklers had those kind of connections?
seattlesundevil - April 28, 2010
Hahaha Bradley shushed the heckler.
Benne - April 28, 2010
Actually shushed him? Please say yes
royalcurve - April 28, 2010
Absolutely

cwel87 - April 28, 2010
That's the way that Rizzs described it.
seattle_since_81 - April 28, 2010

royalcurve - April 28, 2010
Guti's boyfriend break up with him or something today?
russak - April 28, 2010
Solid contact!! What a stuf!
TheBishop - April 28, 2010
Come on Milton
Give it a ride and let’s put this one beyond doubt.
skywaker9 - April 28, 2010
So badly want Milton to hit a HR here.
Just so I can see the reaction as he touches home plate.
Ender15 - April 28, 2010
Oh. Milton's up. So there's hope.

I Lick Squirrels - April 28, 2010
Who would play shortstop if Wilson got injured?
CapSea - April 28, 2010
Dang. Wanted him to blast one!
Oh well. Come on Sweeney. Don’t hack.
Ender15 - April 28, 2010
Um... I think there should be a rule that Bradley always has to swing if Sweeney is on deck.
CapSea - April 28, 2010

just sayin’, I wouldn’t mind
Stormton - April 28, 2010

that works too

He's swinging at good pitches, this is a great sign.

I Lick Squirrels - April 28, 2010

Brian Floyd - April 28, 2010
Come on Sweeney, end your career at Kauffman with a bang
Ian Smell - April 28, 2010
Or not.
Ian Smell - April 28, 2010
In fairness we didn't mic his knees
Jeff Sullivan - April 28, 2010
DAMN
E-Lizz - April 28, 2010

E-Lizz - April 28, 2010
Thats okay sweendog
EequalsMc2 - April 28, 2010
Hereeeeee we gooooo again
yessirrr - April 28, 2010
Unacceptable.
Sweeney may be hitting the ball more solid when he does but I’d still rather have Griffey.
Ender15 - April 28, 2010
Honestly, I'd rather have Sweeney at this rate. I think if he had more at bats, he would be fine.
E-Lizz - April 28, 2010
Because there's not a solution where neither one of them plays
calim - April 28, 2010
I think they both blow ass
cwel87 - April 28, 2010
They do.
We just have nothing else of worth.
Ender15 - April 28, 2010
This is such an ill-informed statement
cwel87 - April 28, 2010
Who do we currently have sitting in the dugout that could do any better?
Don’t say Byrnes or Tui. Cause they cannot.
Ender15 - April 28, 2010
Tacoma
cwel87 - April 28, 2010
Sure, maybe they can meet us back in Seattle.
But that would not help today.
Ender15 - April 28, 2010
Byrnes or Tui.
Mariner John - April 28, 2010
Anger.
Ender15 - April 28, 2010
Or Langerhans.
Mariner John - April 28, 2010
Thanks Sweeney. Carp couldn't have done that.

ErictheRed - April 28, 2010
Are we ever!
BrianL - April 28, 2010
On the road
Suck.
skywaker9 - April 28, 2010
Maier, Willie and Yuni
Let’s get the first one.
calim - April 28, 2010
Knew we should have PH for him
skywaker9 - April 28, 2010
David Aardsma is pitching in a one-run game. The wind is blowing out to left.
What could go wrong?
ignacio - April 28, 2010
He could walk Mitch Maier and then give up a walk-off home run to Willie Bloomquist
Kaorikaze - April 28, 2010
Nah, he's gonna walk Ballgame and give up a Yunibomb.
I Lick Squirrels - April 28, 2010
I wouldn't mind a quick and painless 1-2-3 inning here DA.
BrianL - April 28, 2010
Yeah would rather not have the lineup turn over
calim - April 28, 2010
Well I'm concerned

Eyeball Kid - April 28, 2010
Ballgame!
Avery Bowron - April 28, 2010
Sorry if this was covered already but
Do you guys remember when Rizzs used to refer to Willie as “Boom boom” Bloomquist because he accidently hit a home run at some point. Talk about one of the least fitting nick names.

Nope, doesn't sound familiar.
Eyebrows - April 28, 2010 via mobile
I thought it was because he was a terrorist.

And thats why we didnt resign WIllie
EequalsMc2 - April 28, 2010
There are many, many reasons we didn't re-sign Willie
Mostly because he’s not a good baseball player.
cwel87 - April 28, 2010
But his avg/slg ratio made him such a novel curiosity.

Yuni K!
ignacio - April 28, 2010
"We've seen Yuni chase those in the past."
Story of his life.
Ian Smell - April 28, 2010
This is why I like day games
We win, I get to smile the rest of the day.
skywaker9 - April 28, 2010
AND it wasted 3 hours of work in the middle of the day!
seattlesundevil - April 28, 2010
Even better
skywaker9 - April 28, 2010
Are we the only team who interviews players for game winning sac flys?
E-Lizz - April 28, 2010
Non-walk off sac flys
Yup.
skywaker9 - April 28, 2010
"How did you manage that sacrifice fly?"
“I fucking missed.” Be honest.
CapSea - April 28, 2010
Rob Johnson with the interview!
He looks like a crappy version of Robocop.
Limerickx - April 28, 2010
2 road wins! In a row! Suck it, America!
sanford_and_son - April 28, 2010
I wish Rob Johnson didn't seem like such a nice person
It would make me feel less bad for hating him.
E-Lizz - April 28, 2010
So with this win the team went exactly .500 without Cliff Lee.
BrianL - April 28, 2010
And half our line up hitting like doo doo. Speaking of which, Johnson and Wilson have been a surprise.
Kermit. - April 28, 2010
We should be 13-9 right now, or at least we easily could be.
refuse2lose2010 - April 28, 2010
We have also won many games we did not deserve to win.
CapSea - April 28, 2010
This is a pointless thing to say.
Eyebrows - April 28, 2010 via mobile
Well he refuses to lose, so.
E-Lizz - April 28, 2010
Pythag is 12-10.
Rollo Tomasi - April 28, 2010
I love when people do this..
If EVERY break went our way and nothing bad ever happened against us, we would be in the playoffs!!!!
seattlesundevil - April 28, 2010
I do like hearing happy totals.
msb - April 28, 2010
I'm sad I missed 2/3 of the game.
Made me less emotionally invested in the game. Why are they having a day game in KC on a Wednesday anyway? This is the least amount of a game I’ve watched all year.
RunningFool - April 28, 2010
Just an FYI, this is sort of considered LLLJ.
CapSea - April 28, 2010
Hamels vs Lincecum.
Combined 18 k’s, bottom 6.
MFAN - April 28, 2010
A big part of me wishes we'd gotten Hamels instead of Lee.
Rollo Tomasi - April 28, 2010
Started reading this and expected a Morrow reference
seattlesundevil - April 28, 2010
Nahh
EequalsMc2 - April 28, 2010
Lee is a better pitcher
Hamels has a better contract.
