Well that's not exactly how we drew it up, but winning a series on the road is fine by me. After all, what kind of ponce takes wins on the road for granted? Even if a win seems all but assured, perhaps even down to the last few seconds, we should know better than to assume that things will turn up aces once the dust settles.

Also helping to take the sting out of the first game loss for me is that the Mariners prevailed in the series despite not playing overwhelmingly well. While Texas is no great shakes, the Mariners cannot afford to skate by much longer. They danced through April despite their injury woes thanks in part to a rather easy schedule, but they must stop dropping games to divisional foes. Now is the time for the 2010 team that we hoped for to show up.

Fri Apr 30, 19:10: Cliff Lee* vs. Colby Lewis

Sat May 1, 12:10: Felix Hernandez vs. Matt Harrison*

Sun May 2, 13:10: Doug Fister vs. C.J. Wilson*

Cliff Lee! Yay!

Note that both Colby Lewis and C.J. Wilson have very small samples to draw from since only data accumulated in the rotation is considered. Still, this is a series that the Mariners should really go into looking to work counts. Texas' bullpen isn't a gigantic strength, especially in the 9th inning, and runs will be tougher to come by anyways playing in Safeco. The Mariners drew five walks in their last game, so hopefully they can bring that mindset to this entire series. It does wonders for giving them run-scoring opportunities.

The Rangers can throw Justin Smoak, David Murphy and Josh Hamilton from the left-side against Felix and Fister this weekend. Also Julio Borbon, but he cannot hit so who cares? Felix can have problems with lefty hitters and falling behind to power hitting lefties in Safeco with Felix's typical fastball preference attitude might be trouble. Change ups Felix, change ups.

It would nice to see Fister drop his all fastball, all the time strategy against the Rangers who can hit the fastball but fare worse against change ups and curves. Then again, it would just be nice to see Fister continue his run of good pitching so whatever works. I just fear he's going to need a different approach for this lineup and I really like his curve.

With Nelson Cruz out of the lineup, I'm not sure if the Rangers are going to be able to avoid using all three of their left-handed outfielders tonight against Cliff Lee which would help him get a softer landing in Seattle.

OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD

Cliff Lee is a fucking Mariner!

I'd just like to say...

that these are a pleasure to read. I look forward to them every series. Thanks.

Thanks for jinxing us with Borbon. He's going to end up going .500+ now

:(

Top marks for 'ponce'.
I hate FOX and MLB for signing that ridiculous Saturday exclusivity contract.

I’m seriously going to miss a Felix start because MLB doesn’t have a competent negotiating team. That’s great.

Also, why the fuck does it seem like we have been on in the afternoon for every single Saturday so far this season?

atdhe.net is your friend.

Go there. That’s how I watched the Cardinals’ 20 innings with the Mets.

Does Cliff Lee get a theme song too?
Can it be Pantera?
I think it needs to happen moreso than have it bestowed

That’s how I feel with Sunshine, Lollipops anyways.. That’s a legit Felix Day feeling!

We might need something different.

Don’t want to repeat ourselves.

No

Felix is a treasure. Cliff Lee is a rental.

Cliff Lee day Midi?
It would be nice if we were at least average in one thing other than defense.
I love all three of these pitching matchups.

Zounds!

Has the pitching been that bad?

If Felix gets Felix Day, what do we give Cliff Lee?

World Series situation: Ice cold veins

I have forgotten how to .gif...

Great dishonor

Really? The Rangers have an Edge?

The Rangers have an edge for the pitching rotation?

Lewis + Harrison + Wilson > Lee + Hernandez + Fister

That's not how it works.
Is it the whole 5 Starter Rotation being compared?
Yes.

It’s the whole rotation based on their in-season tRA posted to date. Over the course of the season, this will stabilize.

Our poor starting ranking is mostly a reflection of RRS's terrible start.

He’s basically been the worst starter in MLB through five starts.

Yeah, in some important statistical categories he's in last by a significant amount.

Even though the sample size isn’t nearly significant enough, because we know RRS isn’t the worst pitcher in the league unless he’s really lost that “IT” factor, in a Rick Ankiel kind of way.

I'm excited to see Lee!!!

And also interested in watching Smoak. 7 walks in his first week? I’m gonna hate/respect/be really annoyed by this kid for a long time.

Him along with Elvis bloody Andrus.
Who is this Cliff Lee all you people are excited about.
Who is this Cliff Lee all you people are excited about?
Who is this Cliff Lee all you people are excited about...
Gentry will probably play CF tonight
Really?

Woo!

Everything’s coming up University of Arkansas!

Wait a minute...

Ryan Divish Tweet

Shawn Kelley optioned to Triple A.

Huh?

Larry Stone now

Mariners option Shawn Kelley to Tacoma to make room for activation of Cliff Lee. I guess M’s didn’t want to risk losing Jesus Colome
Shouldn't we USE him if we don't want to lose him?
NO NO NO!!!!!!

Why does Wak hate Shawn Kelley so much?

It isn't hate. He has a belief system in Jesus but not for Shawn.
This makes me sad.

I mean, Jesus doesn’t even play.

By the way

Is it okay to put these kind of updates here or should they get their own fanshots?

I won't speak for Matthew

but I’d guess this is relevant enough that it can go in a series preview.

But now it has its own thread anyway.

It was also mentioned in the OT, as these things often are.
Things that affect the upcoming series are relevant

this is.

Discussion of RRS, who isn’t slated to pitch, is not.

It looks like Ryan Garko is batting 6th in the rangers lineup tonight.

Sweeney better hit a pinch hit grand slam in the 9th inning!
