I mean he swings expecting results like he’s Ted Williams or something.
This is why I have given Rob less grief this year. Going 0-4 with 20 pitches seen is just so much better than 0-4 with 9 pitches. Our bad hitters can be “productive” by making the starters work. Sweeney apparently still thinks he hits too well to work a count. He’s too smart to not get it. Maybe the coaches need to shorten his leash, pull him aside, and say “Take a fucking pitch Mike.”
Usually this is a plus, being a catcher and hitting better than your veteran DH.
In this case, him being a catcher is a negative. To think that someone could begin an argument that Rob Johnson is a better DH than our current ones, well that is mind-boggling. I wouldn’t like to make that case though because it will look dumb in a few months, when Griffey/Sweeney are slightly better. How hard is it to have a league average DH on your roster? It seems like the easiest spot to fill.
I did say MAYBE. I only said he’s been decent so far, it’s too early to tell. Really though, you look at Michael Young and say, that guy is a MLB third baseman? He’s awful!
God this inning is so much like a Mariners' inning
Kotchman almost lines one down the line, but it goes foul. Kotchman almost hits a home run, but it goes foul. Johnson almost bloops one down the line, but it goes foul. Johnson almost gets hit by a pitch, but it hits the bat.
Griffey sucks, but there is at least some potential for a homer with him up, that was the right call. You’re down the 3, the defensive downgrade is pretty meaningless at this point.
I didn’t start following baseball until Griffey was gone. I didn’t see him in his prime. The only thing I see now is some fat ass going up to the plate and flailing late at fastballs right down broadway.
My only memories of Ken Griffey Jr. are those of him hanging on way past his prime.
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad if I had memories of prime!Griffey.
Him sticking around just makes me mad. I want to love one of the greatest sports figures in Seattle history, but all I see is someone that’s over-the-hill and either doesn’t realize he’s bad or is too prideful/selfish to admit it.
Despite his poor start and subsequent retirement, fans again voted Schmidt to the NL All-Star team. He decided not to play, but he did participate in the game’s opening ceremony.
But you and I both know they don’t. Runs win games, however they are gained. And when we keep fucking up “the little things”, they can outweigh our homers.
In the off-season GMZ did so many smart things, but things didn’t go tits up until spring training rolled around and Wak could get his hands on the roster.
I literally got to hear the last at bat of this game, and you could tell from Dave's tone of voice even before you got much info what the state of the game was.
But it’d sure be nice to plug someone with more upside than Langerhans into LF. And you have to assume that Z is plotting how to get someone else into 3B as well. it hurts to say it because I’m a big Lopey fan, but he’s just not Z’s type of player, and I can see him having a shorter rope.
But again, it’s pretty fruitless, since there aren’t any obvious guys to plug in there.
Yes sir

No clue man
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
Safeco isn't even in SoDo!
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Uh, yes it is.
From Spokane Street north to King Street, bound by the transit tunnel and the waterfront.
harkening - May 1, 2010
I don't consider that to be SoDo
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
That's the actual formal definition of Sodo.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Formal definitions of neighborhood boundaries quite often don't mesh with reality.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
And I realize I am being kind of a pedant about this but it's a thing I am weird about
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
So for the sake of discussion,
where is SoDo on your imaginary Seattle map?
harkening - May 1, 2010
In the general vicinity of the I-5 corridor, between I-90 and Georgetown.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
SoDo originally meant South of the Dome
TrustBaseball - May 1, 2010
Safeco is still south of the dome.
Qwest Field stands where the dome used to stand.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Should the area be called SoSo now?
South of the Stadium
TrustBaseball - May 1, 2010
I'm all for calling it the Stadium District.
harkening - May 1, 2010
I think of that part of town as the Stadium District (or something like that) and everything south of it as SoDo.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
From Starbucks headquarters to King Street Station is my general conceptualization of the "Stadium District."
harkening - May 1, 2010
That encompasses a lot of the ID, though.
I generally think of it as everything between Pioneer Square, Alaskan Way, I-5 and ~Holgate
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
You two are right. This game is boring.
the other side - May 1, 2010
The International District is across 4th Ave from King Street Station.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Amtrak station or Metro?
Amtrak station is on the west side of 4th but what the Metro station is on the east side.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
The Metro Station is Union Station, not King Street Station.
I know the tunnel stop is “King Street”, but the actual building is Union Station.
harkening - May 1, 2010
This seems like something I should know.
Weird. In that case, yes, agreed.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Also I don't love "Stadium District" because it's what one of the best neighborhoods in Tacoma is called.
I think about this stuff way too much.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
"One of the best neighborhoods in Tacoma."
All I could think of here was “Stadium District and…Old Town? Yeah, I like Old Town.” Because the rest of Tacoma sucks.
harkening - May 1, 2010
I disagree.
Proctor is great (and I actually prefer it to Stadium,) 6th Ave, lots of Hilltop. Tacoma is awesome.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
I mentally connect Proctor to Old Town, since coming down 705 leads straight into Old Town,
and then up to Proctor. mental slip. Because Proctor is swell; I’d love to live down in that general area.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Proctor is one of my favorite neighborhoods not just in Tacoma but anywhere else.
If it were in Seattle I would never leave.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
If it were in Seattle, I would constantly fight with myself over wanting to live in one of:
a) Green Lake
b) Phinney Ridge
c) Wallingford
d) U District
e) Capitol Hill
f) West Seattle
g) Proctor
A-C are pretty much interchangeable. Just depends on which side of the lake you want to live on. They’re culturally very similar.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Capitol Hill is really the only Seattle neighborhood I want to live in.
If there was a light rail connection between there and Georgetown, Mt. Baker, Greenwood or Wallingford it would be a different story.
Phinney has changed a lot in the past year, and it’s not a change I particularly care for.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010

Way to work the count like a veteran Sweeney.
Maybe the coaches need to shorten his leash, pull him aside, and say “Take a fucking pitch Mike.”
refuse2lose2010 - May 1, 2010
Rob plays more and plays the field. So he gets more of my anger.
the other side - May 1, 2010
Usually this is a plus, being a catcher and hitting better than your veteran DH.
Harrison out for the 5th art 98 pitches?
laxtonto - May 1, 2010
Who let Dusty Baker in the house?
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
I think you're missing a 'thou' somewhere
BRKLN M'S - May 1, 2010
Hey, you know what I never thought I'd be saying on May 1st of any given season?
“Gee, thank god I still have the Nationals to root for, at least.”
esoteric - May 1, 2010
If Sounders don't win tonight I quit sports and plan to take up knitting
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Are you taking requests?
If I could get an angora noose, I’d be grateful.
section331 - May 1, 2010
I plan to knit only legwarmers for meerkats
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Oh, come on!
I’d like to off myself before the All-Star Break. Help a girl out!
section331 - May 1, 2010
That's a lie.
eri_yoshida_is_a_stud - May 1, 2010
I see you include both loss and tie in this outcome.
harkening - May 1, 2010
It's soccer, you have to.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Well, yes, I realize that a tie happens in soccer.
It’s more that you don’t even find a tie an acceptable outcome.
harkening - May 1, 2010
I thought I had typed "lose" :(
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Incoming K.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
Awesome.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
Kotch is hitting the shit out of the ball
OlSalty - May 1, 2010
He wants to fit in.
Ian Smell - May 1, 2010
3 up and 3 down please
I’d rather not waste Ichiro.
OceanBird - May 1, 2010
Young looks like he's gonna hurt himself today
d rod - May 1, 2010
Good
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
I wish you said Sweeney instead of Young.
Ian Smell - May 1, 2010
Rob Johnson fails at getting hit by a pitch.
Ugh.
hova9 - May 1, 2010
Fixed!
Rob Johns fails at getting hit by a bitch.
harkening - May 1, 2010
*Fixed again!
Rob Johnson fails
at getting hit by a pitch.harkening - May 1, 2010
There it is.
the other side - May 1, 2010
What
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
Keyboard lag introduced by some background processing.
Also, apparently SBN doesn’t recognize the < s > command for strikeout formatting.
harkening - May 1, 2010
LOOK INJURED BETTER!
Slurvey - May 1, 2010
ROB JOHNSON WALKS WOO
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
Eric Karros, encouraging players to lie to umps.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
Eric Karros is an annoying little shit.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
I am glad Rob Johnson can take a walk.
YES!
eri_yoshida_is_a_stud - May 1, 2010
Seriously?
Harrison at 113 pitches and we can’t destroy him yet? Why do we suck so much.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
Swinging strike!
BRKLN M'S - May 1, 2010
This would be a great time for a Jack Wilson homer!
MFAN - May 1, 2010
I'll take a double
JBell523 - May 1, 2010
I'll take a single.
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
I'll take a GIDP.
Ian Smell - May 1, 2010
Thats Rob Johnson's job
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
This would also be a great time for a unicorn to fly through the window and vomit up naked women and winning lottery tickets
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Is there ever a bad time?
mooseballs - May 1, 2010
It would be awkward if your mom was in the same room
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Or your girlfriend
Or wife or any other significant female in your life.
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
You'd think she would be happy with being rich
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
But she's a woman, so she'll focus on the other naked women in the room
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
Dang, that sounded pretty kinky
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
We must know different women
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
We must.
Though it would be pretty cool if we knew the same women, because then we’d know each other, and I’d laugh more often than just in game threads.
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
No, no there isnt.
the other side - May 1, 2010
I disagree
Big Jared - May 1, 2010
Oh my god
This game was nightmarish enough
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
He'd look better sideways
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
He looks pretty damn sideways as it is
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
We have very different visions of unicorns.
the other side - May 1, 2010
Hahahaha, what the fuck?
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
Thanks, you just ruined unicorns for me
mooseballs - May 1, 2010
There's a handsome lad
BRKLN M'S - May 1, 2010
You should knit that
Right after the Sounders draw tonight.
section331 - May 1, 2010
Like a woolen tapestry.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
That sounds like it's more likely to happen.
MFAN - May 1, 2010
I love when Johnson walks.
refuse2lose2010 - May 1, 2010
This team needs a spark.
okdan - May 1, 2010
Like the ump didn't hear that bat crack, fuck you Karros, just shut up.
refuse2lose2010 - May 1, 2010
117 pitches? Really?
the other side - May 1, 2010
I'm waiting for his arm to go flying into the stands.
Ian Smell - May 1, 2010
As much as that would hurt, that would be awesome looking.
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
For the love of fucking god.
It’s Matt Harrison and he’s at 115+ pitches.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
But you have to remember that he's a perennial Cy Young candidate.
Ian Smell - May 1, 2010
They just said he's usually at 110 pitches.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
God this inning is so much like a Mariners' inning
Kotchman almost lines one down the line, but it goes foul. Kotchman almost hits a home run, but it goes foul. Johnson almost bloops one down the line, but it goes foul. Johnson almost gets hit by a pitch, but it hits the bat.
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
The fact that Johnson almost did either of those things is impressive.
He didn’t record an out!
harkening - May 1, 2010
What the fuck is up with Cousins' strike zone?
harkening - May 1, 2010
It's a complete fucking joke
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
A joke? As in the Mariners' offense?
Ian Smell - May 1, 2010
At least the Mariners' offense is consistent
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
Good call.
Ian Smell - May 1, 2010
It's subjective
BRKLN M'S - May 1, 2010
Ichiro is going for 135 pitches.
the other side - May 1, 2010
BAH
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
Playin' defense even when he's at the plate.
JamMasterJesus - May 1, 2010
Why do I feel like the Mariner's offense can't do anything?
eri_yoshida_is_a_stud - May 1, 2010
Because you've been paying attention?
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
So true.
And because I have been watching them this past couple days.
eri_yoshida_is_a_stud - May 1, 2010
I see you're a perceptive person.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Really? M's bats are you serious.
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
throwing hard to get Ichiro
95,94,96,95
I guess he REALLy wanted to stay in
laxtonto - May 1, 2010
Unfuckingbelieveable.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
Harrison's going to get a dead arm and the Rangers are going to have to call up Holland.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
maybe that is the plan all along
laxtonto - May 1, 2010
This is like the Angels getting better by losing their catchers.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
the Rangers did
laxtonto - May 1, 2010
Ichiro for four...
OceanBird - May 1, 2010
WARRIOR
BRKLN M'S - May 1, 2010
He looks like David Wells
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
Except a little lighter.
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
And way more retarded
BRKLN M'S - May 1, 2010
The Mariners are doing that to him.
harkening - May 1, 2010
What will the rotation be like in August?
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
Hey look, a completely irrelevant Yankees mention.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
How the fuck is it only the 7th.
Damn.
the other side - May 1, 2010
I think we get it now. The Mariner's offense is struggling.
Gosh.
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
Wait. Is this new?
the other side - May 1, 2010
No. Lewin and Karros.
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
Krakatoa warming up.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
Yay, Colume.
ThundaPC - May 1, 2010
Heart of the order!
BRKLN M'S - May 1, 2010
We hate submariners
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
Define "we"...
section331 - May 1, 2010
Aww, I like the Rainiers
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
I, for one, think this joke is quite good.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
God shut the fuck up Karros.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
srzly
resurrect_ha28 - May 1, 2010
And Lewin.
harkening - May 1, 2010
McCarver is getting up there. Fox is just grooming the eventual replacement.
Big Jared - May 1, 2010
Karros is McCarver but with ten times the douche factor.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
Amazingly, this is true.
Big Jared - May 1, 2010
We suck.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
SHIT
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
This is really close to getting the mute button.
the other side - May 1, 2010
This game is really close to being over!
Yay! =(
harkening - May 1, 2010
Welp
That was fucking fast
Stormton - May 1, 2010
I'm gonna take Jeff's advice and go do something.
Felix is out, Sweeney still playing, the Fox announcers are fucking faggots and I hate this Rangers team.
I need some positivity in my life.
sanford_and_son - May 1, 2010
But Milton is due up next
JBell523 - May 1, 2010
The Fox announcers are cool dudes.
Kirk - May 1, 2010
I know I've been posting too many pictures, but this is it for today I swear. Gross!
BRKLN M'S - May 1, 2010
Holy fuck.
I knew there was something fundamentally wrong with submariners.
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
I can't even think of an onomatopoeia that describes the sound I just made accurately
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Its not the right arm's grotesque angle, as much as
the left arm growing straight out of his chest.
mooseballs - May 1, 2010
Also, the elbow.
harkening - May 1, 2010
The whole thing is so gross!
BRKLN M'S - May 1, 2010
Oh god.
E-Lizz - May 1, 2010
Whoa
Stormton - May 1, 2010
Has a GIF of that Jack Wilson "whoopsie!" play at short been posted yet?
Because that was priceless.
sanford_and_son - May 1, 2010
Jack Wilson!
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
FUCK!
harkening - May 1, 2010
God fucking damnit
Stormton - May 1, 2010
Painful.
E-Lizz - May 1, 2010
Michael Young... Michael Young..
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
And... on comes the mute.
resurrect_ha28 - May 1, 2010
I fucking hate baseball.
coolguyrob - May 1, 2010
Time to stop listening.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
This is so fucking frustrating
Alto - May 1, 2010
I'm glad I stopped caring like an hour ago
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
Baseball is stupid. Beer is awesome...so are hot chicks
BRKLN M'S - May 1, 2010
BASE FUCKING HIT WOOOOO
okdan - May 1, 2010
I smell a GIDP
Stormton - May 1, 2010
Maybe I should say that more often
Stormton - May 1, 2010
Not possible anymore
But a LIDP sure is.
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
Who's the man? MB!
mooseballs - May 1, 2010
Milton!
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
I'm surprised Sweeney didn't swing on that.
resurrect_ha28 - May 1, 2010
Sweeney's second 3-0 count of the day!
harkening - May 1, 2010
Take.
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
Karos is total douchebag
okdan - May 1, 2010
Pleeeeeeeeease don't fuck this up
Alto - May 1, 2010
Way to not listen, asshole
Alto - May 1, 2010
FUCK YOU
Stormton - May 1, 2010
And yet another useless out.
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
Oh god Paul Konerko alone has more HRs than this entire team.
Damnit.
craig3410 - May 1, 2010
...
Fuck Mike Sweeney.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Fuck you Mike Sweeney.
How many times does this need to be said.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
God fucking damnit
okdan - May 1, 2010
FUCKING SHIT
resurrect_ha28 - May 1, 2010
If Mike Sweeney dies later I would find it difficult to care.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
I've lost the energy to be emotionally invested in this game.
harkening - May 1, 2010
FUCK YOU SWEENEY, THAT'S THE LAST STRAW
JBell523 - May 1, 2010
Geez
You must be the most patient person in the fucking universe.
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
Last night was the last straw.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
I thought last season was the last straw.
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
His 2008 where he wOBA'd .322 should have been the last straw
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
That .322's looking pretty good right about now.
Last night absolutely erased my (ever-decreasing) belief that Mike Sweeney could post a wOBA even close to that this year.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
Yeah, that really was.
I was hoping for a rally right here though =/
JBell523 - May 1, 2010
I ran out of straws a long fucking time ago
Alto - May 1, 2010
So coming into the season people happy with Sweeney on the roster pointed out that he was healthy and had always been productive while healthy.
wRC+ in 2010 is 36. So clearly he is injured, right?
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
60-Day DL!
harkening - May 1, 2010
Put him down already.
JamMasterJesus - May 1, 2010
Damn, Kotchman's hitting the ball hard.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
When he starts straightening these motherfuckers out....
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
Griffey?
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
Ahahahahaha we're pinch hitting for Wilson again.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
I'd honestly rather have Wilson hit than Griffey.
okdan - May 1, 2010
WHY IS GRIFFEY ON DECK FOR WILSON AGAIN.
WHAT DID WE FUCKING NOT LEARN FROM YESTERDAY?
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
OH MY GOD WAK
You didn’t fucking learn from last night??
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
Muted. Christ sakes
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
What the FUCK!?
Griffey is on deck to PH for Jack Wilson.
Biggest Suckfest: Wakamatsu, – ∞
Holy shit.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Rob Johnson walks again
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
This is unfortunate!
okdan - May 1, 2010
I can't fucking believe this.
I’m really getting sick of Wakamatsu.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
Rob Johnson is turning into a fucking pimp.
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
I can't fucking take it
Stormton - May 1, 2010
I'll go out on a limb and say weak groundout to second.
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
You got owned! No weak groundout for the Griffen...
mooseballs - May 1, 2010
If Griffey homers here, I will still think he's a worthless pile of shit that should have retired three years ago
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
No you won't!
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
I absolutely guarantee you that I will
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
I'm pretty sure he will.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
You I'd be fine with this if Jack Hannahan was on the roster.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
Here comes the let down.
resurrect_ha28 - May 1, 2010
How is it a let down if you are expecting to be an out?
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
expecting it..
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
This would be exciting if Griffey were capable hitting one out still
OlSalty - May 1, 2010
God
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
This can't go wrong at all!
Alto - May 1, 2010
Fooled
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
Wow that was an ugly swing.
okdan - May 1, 2010
He's just setting the kid up...
Big Jared - May 1, 2010
Genius!
okdan - May 1, 2010
Prove the haters wrong, Gfiff-dawg!
JamMasterJesus - May 1, 2010
He is so fucking overmatched
Stormton - May 1, 2010
Not if he doesn't swing.
TrustBaseball - May 1, 2010
WALK, YOU FAT FUCK!
harkening - May 1, 2010
Maybe the plan is to create more public failures for The Kid
So the public is behind them when he is cut.
okdan - May 1, 2010
The public are a bunch of stupid twunts
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Now if he walks we might have an ounce of hope.
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
Maybe he'll get a BB
moyerLIVES - May 1, 2010
Holy shit he sure got a hold of that one
Stormton - May 1, 2010
Time for a weak three-run homer between 1st and 2nd
Alto - May 1, 2010
Even Eric Karros knows you can just throw Junior fastballs.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Just pipe 'em down the middle and wait for the groundout.
moyerLIVES - May 1, 2010
The ball was in the air!
harkening - May 1, 2010
He hit a 97 mph?
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
God even no-batspeed Edgar wasn't this bad.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
He was still in shape.
Big Jared - May 1, 2010
Junior hit one into the upper deck!!!!
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
I don't think he did.
CapSea - May 1, 2010
Upper deck of the sky, maybe
Alto - May 1, 2010
We is sad
okdan - May 1, 2010
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOU
Don Wakamatsu.
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
I'm getting to the point where I couldn't care less if HE gets canned.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
For pinch-hitting for Jack Wilson?
Griffey sucks, but there is at least some potential for a homer with him up, that was the right call. You’re down the 3, the defensive downgrade is pretty meaningless at this point.
MFAN - May 1, 2010
No, it wasn't anywhere near the right call.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Uh
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
If he hits a HR, the defefnsive downgrade is very meaningful
rickpo - May 1, 2010
The 3 run homer is more meaningful, I'll trade that defensive downgrade for 3 runs.
MFAN - May 1, 2010
You're not trading a 3-run homer. You're trading a small increased probability of a 3-run homer
rickpo - May 1, 2010
And that is worth the defensive downgrade when you're down by 3.
MFAN - May 1, 2010
Out of Griffey's 58 AB's this year which has shown you he is capable of hitting a HR?
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
More likely to reach base than Jack Wilson.
Griffey sucks and I want him gone, but if he’s on the team that is the time to use him.
MFAN - May 1, 2010
More likely to reach base than Jack Wilson?
What?
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
Their three-year OBP trends (and so far this season)
actually agree with this statement. It pains me to say this.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Do those 3 year trends account for an again washed up 41 year old?
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
*Aging.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
"and so far this season".
Yes.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Pretty pictures!
harkening - May 1, 2010
Thank god for those Walks.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
I'm impressed that no one called me out for calling this picture "pretty."
It’s terribly depressing.
harkening - May 1, 2010
I NEVER ONCE LIKED YOU FAT-ASSED SACK OF COMPOST
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
Can we have the retirement ceremony after Feliz mows us down in the 9th?
Stormton - May 1, 2010
Only if Griffey goes all Preston Brooks on Mike Sweeney's Charles Sumner.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Just do the right thing and retire.
It’s what’s best for everybody.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
I'm sad
okdan - May 1, 2010
Hey Grifffey. We would love you as a coach though!
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
Am I right, guys?
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
Okay you know what
I didn’t start following baseball until Griffey was gone. I didn’t see him in his prime. The only thing I see now is some fat ass going up to the plate and flailing late at fastballs right down broadway.
My only memories of Ken Griffey Jr. are those of him hanging on way past his prime.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
I'm also in this boat.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad if I had memories of prime!Griffey.
Him sticking around just makes me mad. I want to love one of the greatest sports figures in Seattle history, but all I see is someone that’s over-the-hill and either doesn’t realize he’s bad or is too prideful/selfish to admit it.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
It's worse, trust me
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
I have memories of prime!Griffey.
I’m beyond fed up with him.
harkening - May 1, 2010
I love prime Griffey
“The Double” (including his integral involvement) remains my favorite Seattle sports memory of all time.
This pathetic shadow has nothing on that man. It’s not him.
Omerta - May 1, 2010
Oh god stop pinch hitting for Wilson when we still have to play defense
OlSalty - May 1, 2010
Out of curiosity,
Is there any precedent for a full-time player to realize he’s awful and retire?
hova9 - May 1, 2010
Mike Schmidt
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Wow.
Really classy.

Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
You tease...
JamMasterJesus - May 1, 2010
So the last four Griffey pitches
Weak groundball foul to first
Pop up foul
Pop up foul
Pop up to shallow left
All on fastballs out over the plate. Is that sequence right?
Jaejo - May 1, 2010
So... About that "In Z We Trust" sign...
CapSea - May 1, 2010
I never bought into that bandwagon.
Z and Wak’s micro-moves with the roster drive me nuts. It’s the big ones we win.
harkening - May 1, 2010
So we win the important ones
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
That's like saying home runs win games.
But you and I both know they don’t. Runs win games, however they are gained. And when we keep fucking up “the little things”, they can outweigh our homers.
harkening - May 1, 2010
If this front office keeps nailing the major roster moves this is going to be a very good team.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
No, they can't.
Compared to Gutierrez, Bradley and Lee Sweeney and Griffey matter very little.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
They could if we literally did every single small thing wrong
We don’t
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
I still love our front office for the most part.
I think it’s time they take some of the roster construction power away from Wakamatsu.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Maybe they should just turn the sign up upside down for awhile.
CapSea - May 1, 2010
Maybe they should take it down every time Mike Sweeney is in the lineup.
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
Wak makes the lineups
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
Yeah, I know. I'm just pissed off and thinking of desperate ways to publicly protest.
Granted, Z is the one that resigned Mike. He could have just told Wak, “NO! You only get one worthless player.”
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
Z gave Wak Sweeney to play with.
harkening - May 1, 2010
He was a non-roster invitee.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
And he was signed.
Z did not have to do that. Z didn’t even have to invite him to camp.
harkening - May 1, 2010
I don't disagree, but Wakamatsu lobbied for it and Zduriencik has given him a lot of control over the MLB roster.
I don’t disagree with taking that approach but it’s time to pull back a bit.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
I'm in the same boat.
In the off-season GMZ did so many smart things, but things didn’t go tits up until spring training rolled around and Wak could get his hands on the roster.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
Never said
“In Wak We Trust”
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
I'm glad they keep reiterating that Jr. isn't as good as he once was. I hadn't noticed.
Big Jared - May 1, 2010
Haven't you guys heard?
Griffey is working on getting his legs more involved in his swing. That’s clearly the problem!
Stormton - May 1, 2010
I knew we should have hired Joey Cora.
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
WOO HOO FRANCISCO
HOPE!
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
Ichiro walks
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
Milton slam is going to be the only thing that talks me off the ledge
A Lopez slam just won’t do
Stormton - May 1, 2010
Any slam would do for me.
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
Nothing would negate that though.
CapSea - May 1, 2010
Ichiwalk!
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
Francisco is broken
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Horray!
JamMasterJesus - May 1, 2010
Jesus just take all day long against this guy.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
Now my hopes have arisen only to be crushed momentarily
TWownsU - May 1, 2010

EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
Nobody swing

Stormton - May 1, 2010
Now I'm just really nervous at how hard I will take it when if we blow this.
E-Lizz - May 1, 2010
when/if
E-Lizz - May 1, 2010
C'mon....meltdown you fuckers!
Big Jared - May 1, 2010
Don't you dare give me false hope unless you fucking intend to capitalize on it
COME ON GUTI
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
If they capitalize on it it wouldn't be false hope
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
You're right
I confused myself though
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
Guti Bomb?
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
Guti-blast!
…please?
harkening - May 1, 2010
Guti it's time for some sex magic right here
Alto - May 1, 2010
If ever there was a time for sex magic
Now is it.
okdan - May 1, 2010
"And the Mariners win on the 6th walk of the inning"
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010

Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010

Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
OMG YOU BETTER NOT BUNT
TWownsU - May 1, 2010
DON'T YOU DARE FUCKING BUNT
Slurvey - May 1, 2010
Why is Guti bunting!?
What the fuck!?
harkening - May 1, 2010
ASSHOLE DONT BUNT
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
Showing bunt eh
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
"As a hitter...I'm looking to swing."
Umm, no wonder Karros wasn’t a great player.
hova9 - May 1, 2010
More like Eric Karrosh
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
I don't think he was actually trying to bunt guys
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
My brow furrowed so hard
Stormton - May 1, 2010
Ehh.
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
What the hell are you talking about Eric?
BrianL - May 1, 2010
Chris Karros shut the fuck up
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
I think the announcers might be right here...
Slurvey - May 1, 2010
God damnit Guti.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
NO GUTI
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
MOTHERBALLS
JamMasterJesus - May 1, 2010
Guti has just looked terrible in the last 3 games
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
Well there goes our opportunity.
TWownsU - May 1, 2010
There's only one out.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
I'm not very optimistic anymore.
TWownsU - May 1, 2010
I'm really happy FOX didn't show this in my region
I don’t think I could handle watching it on TV.
E-Lizz - May 1, 2010
I've grown numb.
It’s not so bad anymore.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Just an awful at bat
Fucking terrible.
okdan - May 1, 2010
2 guys somewhat capable of homering coming up
Eh..
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
GiDP time =(
Slurvey - May 1, 2010
.......Lopez you've got this (I hope)
Alto - May 1, 2010
It is not a coincidence that as soon as Gutierrez began slumping the offense went totally tits up.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Hey nice sign!
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
Let's go Mr. Clutch
JBell523 - May 1, 2010
I have no idea what Eric Karros is talking about.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
Neither does he.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
You're back on earth now Guti
You can stop coming down
Stormton - May 1, 2010
What is wrong with Guti? :(
I guess his shoulders wore out after carrying the offense for 3 weeks
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
Bad couple games
It happens
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
THAT WASN'T EVEN A FUCKING STRIKE YOU STUPID
AND NO THAT’S NOT WHAT HE FUCKING SHOULD DO SHUT YOUR STUPID FUCKING MOUTH ERIC KARROS
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
How come there's not been much criticism of Cockrell?
okdan - May 1, 2010
Hitting coaches don't do anything
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
Criticize him for what?
Matt Erickson - May 1, 2010
I think fixing Casey Kotchman.
joof - May 1, 2010
Crush this pitch.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
TAKE!
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
What an idiot.
CapSea - May 1, 2010
Oh my lord.
Jesus christ Lopez.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
DAMN YOU
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010

E-Lizz - May 1, 2010

Alto - May 1, 2010
The good Washington team begins playing in about a half hour.
A relief after this clusterfuck.
esoteric - May 1, 2010

Slurvey - May 1, 2010
Oh my motherfucking God
Stormton - May 1, 2010
Awful pitch to swing at.
zeeehjee - May 1, 2010

UGH.
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010

JamMasterJesus - May 1, 2010
Loafie being Loafie
TrustBaseball - May 1, 2010
FOR FUCK'S SAKE, LOAFIE
/autocomplete, unsurprisingly.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
Seattle Fans were getting on Bradley?
Someone go down there and tell them to shut the fuck up.
CapSea - May 1, 2010
He absolutely deserved it.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
What happened?
CapSea - May 1, 2010
He stood there and watched an easily catchable fly ball drop
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
Oh, okay.
I missed that. Tuned in in the 6th.I assumed it was the usual Bradley booing.
CapSea - May 1, 2010
Only after that weird missed catch earlier
to my ears, at least.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
9% WE
ChaseB - May 1, 2010
4%
ChaseB - May 1, 2010
0?
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
Bradley looks totally pissed
okdan - May 1, 2010
DAMNIT
EequalsMc2 - May 1, 2010
I hate baseball. I hate this team.
TWownsU - May 1, 2010
Good contact =(
JamMasterJesus - May 1, 2010
What a horrible horrible fucking game.
We are terrible. Completely and utterly terrible.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
Fuck this fuck this fuck this
okdan - May 1, 2010
X(
Slurvey - May 1, 2010
Fuck this noise
Alto - May 1, 2010
There is no team in baseball playing worse than the Mariners right now.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
This is horrible.
I don’t care about being reactionary and upset, but this is absolutely freaking ridiculous.
E-Lizz - May 1, 2010
I think I'd be about 30% less annoyed if I hadn't listened to Eric Karros the entire game.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
I know
and that’s quite a feat on his part considering how much the game sucked.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
LET'S GO NATIONALS. HEAL THIS PAIN.
esoteric - May 1, 2010
DO YOU SEE HOW LOW YOU'VE SUNK, MARINERS?
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
Well, those 2 games completely sucked.
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
I literally got to hear the last at bat of this game, and you could tell from Dave's tone of voice even before you got much info what the state of the game was.
so, 6 runs? off Felix?
msb - May 1, 2010
Okay Z, take back the roster from Wakamatsu.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
He can dump Sweeney, bring up Langerhans, dump Jesus (or White) and bring up Hannahan...
and it wouldn’t force Wak to use those tools wisely.
harkening - May 1, 2010
Replacing Sweeney with Langerhans
And Tui with Hannahan isn’t going to make Guti, Lopez, Wilson, and Figgins hit better.
We won’t start winning until they do.
okdan - May 1, 2010
Figgins was on base 4 times tonight
Griffin Cooper - May 1, 2010
Replacing Sweeney with Langerhans gets Sweeney out of the 6th spot in the lineup.
It forces Bradley to DH, and elevates Kotchman to 6th.
Hannahan makes it possible to pinch hit for Wilson without having to suffer from the Tui defensive downgrade penalty.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
I don't disagree with any of that
But I think we’ve got much more fundamental things to worry about than who’s going to take over SS in the 9th inning.
okdan - May 1, 2010
You are right, overall it won't matter if Figgins, Milton and Lopez won't hit.
But it will make the better and give the team more flexibility. Putting Bradley at DH could also save him from injury.
MFAN - May 1, 2010
Make the team better.
MFAN - May 1, 2010
I don't know what opportunities are out there
But it’d sure be nice to plug someone with more upside than Langerhans into LF. And you have to assume that Z is plotting how to get someone else into 3B as well. it hurts to say it because I’m a big Lopey fan, but he’s just not Z’s type of player, and I can see him having a shorter rope.
But again, it’s pretty fruitless, since there aren’t any obvious guys to plug in there.
okdan - May 1, 2010
Langerhans--->LEf and Bradley--->DH is a pretty sizable upgrade.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
I don't even wanna watch the game tomorrow.
Ender15 - May 1, 2010
Then don't.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
Fister is pitching!
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
Fister isn't very good
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
Vargas is the best of our crappy starters by a ways and he's still crappy.
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
But can't I hold a little hope because of what I have seen this year?
Like we possibly could see a couple more good starts?
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
Three aces!
harkening - May 1, 2010
I recommend you do not watch the game tomorrow.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
Tomorrow seems like appropriate and fitting time for
Fister to get smacked over the head with regression to mean.
hova9 - May 1, 2010
Thanks. I have to go watch it.
msb - May 1, 2010
Meanwhile, somewhere out there Carlos Silva continues to get ground ball after ground ball...
esoteric - May 1, 2010
How is Bucky Jacobsen a TV analyst
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
He does it on the radio!
msb - May 1, 2010
If KJR feels you're a worthwhile hire I don't want to listen to you.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
Bucky Jacobsen on the post game!
This is…bad.
harkening - May 1, 2010
He could be our DH solution..
Ian Smell - May 1, 2010
Yeah, a while ago.
M'sFanatic - May 1, 2010
Hid has chance, refused to take care of himself.
Fuck him.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
You've gotta look at the camera there, Bucky
Aaron Campeau - May 1, 2010
So what was it about Karros that irked all?
msb - May 1, 2010
His an annoying little shit with a douche factor of 11.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
So it wasn't anything more specific than him being Eric Karros, then?
msb - May 1, 2010
Nope.
Just Eric Karros being Eric Karros.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
He never shut up and was wrong
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2010
I think that rant he went on during Guti's final AB was the worst of it all.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
That, and what he was right about hurt my feelings.
(Calling out Griffey over and over again)
JamMasterJesus - May 1, 2010
Hey! You're back!
msb - May 1, 2010
I never really left!
JamMasterJesus - May 1, 2010
Seems like I haven't seen you in a while!
msb - May 1, 2010
Well I haven't been posting, but I've been around!
JamMasterJesus - May 1, 2010
Glad to hear it :)
msb - May 1, 2010
Even Matt Pitman thinks the team needs to cut one of Sweeney/Griffey and bench the other.
BrianL - May 1, 2010
I'd almost prefer to see Griffey cut
just for the hilarity factor.
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
We should have them fight to the death for the right to stay on the roster.
And then as soon as one is victorious, hand him his release papers.
joof - May 1, 2010
I had the same thought
but…
Eyeball Kid - May 1, 2010
Heyward has two less homeruns then the Mariners.
Bet he evens it up tomorrow.
Omerta - May 1, 2010
