Michael Saunders, Ryan Langerhans, and Ichiro are good. Rob Johnson is the absolute God damned worst player of all time and I would take pleasure in gutting him.
It’s still kind of awesome, because you realize Deep Roy is the snail rider, but then you look up Wikipedia or IMDB to figure out what the kid’s mother’s name is and you feel like you’ve been used.
I didn’t say I was chastising you for rosterbating. I am a chronic rosterbater, myself. But you added a player to the roster and kept his replacement, and didn’t explain how to do it.
I thought ‘bating is more of a "why don’t we trade our shitty players for these good ones" kind of thing — things that are highly unlikely to happen. Milton’s coming back.
Also unlikely to happen = Milton coming back, Griffey and Sweeney on the bench and Saunders AND Langerhans on the team, unless one of them can be the backup shortstop as well.
He moved to Chicago like five years ago or something. He was one of the earlier members of the M’s blogosphere, around the same time as the Bremertonians from what I remember.
Designated hitter homers are good… and they’ll happen more often with him on the unemployment line. * please jeffrey don’t hit me with your capt. obvious-ultra-death ray *
But his career rate is 17.6% HR/FB. That’s kinda freakishly high. And he tops 10% year after year. He isa groundballer, but has bad luck on any balls up, I suppose.
are you saying that’s why League has more appearances than Aardsma? Surely, you’re joking. And if I needed a big strikeout, I’m still going to Aardsma. Every. Single. Time.
David Aardsma, your best reliever a year ago, has seen two appearances so far this month. That’s not acceptable.
Further, Brandon League has pitched now, 7 times. Even if you think League is better, there’s something wrong in that ratio.
If I want a big strike out, I’m going to Aardsma and his 9 K/9 vs League at 5.5 K/9. And before you start screaming small sample size crap, it gets worse when you go to previous years.
Not sure what you guys want, but less League and White and more Aardsma and Kelley will balance out the workload and put the better pitcher on the mound more often.
If you have justification for League working practically every other day while Aardsma gets entire series off, I’d love to hear it.
The reason it gets worse as you go further back is because he didn't have the most unhittable pitch in baseball in his arsenal until recently.
Brandon League is definitely the best reliever on this team and David Aardsma in Camden Yards would not be pretty, what with his extreme flyball tendencies.
What happened today was a big surprise but I’d have almost been expecting it with Aardsma.
I’m only responding to your comment that it’s “inexcusable” that League has pitched more than Aardsma.
David Aardsma was our best reliever last year. Brandon League was not on the team last year. Brandon League is just as good, if not better. I just don’t see the big deal in using a good reliever more than a different good reliever. Sure it’s not perfectly efficient, but we all know Wak saves his closer for save situations, just like pretty much every other manager. It’s not ideal, but this team has so many problems that I can’t for a second get worked up about a good reliever pitching too much.
Is their argument that the game wasn’t close enough to warrant League’s appearance? Because that would seem like an odd argument to make given the outcome.
League gave up the solo shot to COREY PATTERSON. And then what would of been the game tying 3 run bomb to Scott even if Rob caught / blocked the strikeout.
YOU JUST FUCKING COST US THE GAME. YOU"RE FUCKING WORSE THAN GRIFFEY AND SWEENEY AND ANGEL HERNANDEZ AND MIKE REILLY COMBINED. GO DIE IN A FUCKING FIRE YOU FUCKING CUNT.
from only taking one pitch when not one of them looked like a strike. Who knows what Figgins does, but Wilson had no chance to score there with Patterson in shallow left field.
Saunders isn’t as patient as Figgins so that comparison is moot right from the start and secondly, the pitches Saunders swung at were reasonably close to the zone.
Just not trying to tell the future, just as Mike Brumley shouldn’t have (if that was what he was doing when he sent him).
Saunders went up there and swung at the second pitch from a guy that couldn’t find the strike zone against the remains of Junior Griffey… and started him off with a ball. I’m not saying Figgins would have done that, I’m just saying any manager worth his ass would have instructed a player to take a couple pitches.
in baseball, making outs is bad, so we should try to avoid making them on the bases. This is because we only get three (3) outs per inning and they are a valuable resource which Mike Brumley SHOULD NOT WASTE SO FUCKING CASUALLY.
I am not a Brumley fan. When I said he can justify sending people through his methods, that was a criticism of his methods. If you’ve seen the spring training video of him describing his system he developed, it’s pretty annoying. He says he has developed his own system for evaluating the defense and game situation. Which, apparently, goes against conventional baseball wisdom sometimes. I don’t think this is the worst send, but it was so shallow that a good throw wasn’t necessary (which is a bad time to go).
thought for a second Wilson had a high chance of success in scoring there, they should reassign him immediately. He’s cost this team more wins than Cockrell.
Matt Wieters, Adam Jones, etc. make Bmore fans delusional each spring. Trust me I followed the O’s for 27 years until I moved out here and started following the M’s. it went from a crotch kicking, to an eye gouging.
Yeah I don't think hopes should run as high in the AL East.
They are worse than the M’s, and we have the worse division. However the M’s discover ways to lose everyday, so maybe the O’s actually finish with a better record. This is like the regression from last year, when our run differential was negative but we were over .500
Over the course of a season, how much should you notice a 3rd base coach?
Honestly, probably less than 5 times, right? We’re on pace to openly question Brumley’s decision-making like 30 times this season. If he does his job, you shouldn’t even notice he’s there. Any valid reason why he shouldn’t be let go? Shit, Byrnes got cut for being an idiot and not performing. Same standards should apply for coaches.
Because anyone can see that Rob is horrendous behind the plate. And if they’re really calling pitches from the dugout, that takes away Rob’s best “quality”.
Who said that they were calling pitches from the dugout?
Moore is also pretty bad behind the plate and it’s pretty obvious as well. I just don’t see much of a difference between the two except Moore is really, really struggling to do anything offensively at the plate. At least Rob is walking.
Just because it's probable doesn't mean it is happening.
Rob and Moore both came up in the same organization too. They both learned from the same coaches or a least similar coaches. They could have very similar game calling strategies.
I thought one of the main reasons was the language barrier as well? Moore speaks English, he can actually catch the ball and he’s not any worse of a hitter. There’s still no spot whatsoever for Rob on this team.
It is because that limits flexibility the next inning.
I know Griffey sucks and all but he can walk sort of still and you can’t pinch hit Moore when you’ve already taken out Johnson. Also, Moore is pretty bad a defense too from what I’ve seen.
Did you see this thread in the future, Jeff?

It has some competition.
JY - May 13, 2010
Unfortunatlely yes.
They all seem so obvious to me. I’m not sure there is an optimal hit-and-run situation that I would actually approve of.

Millhouse had to work for his dinner, according to Sims.

Goose - May 13, 2010
Not everything is coming up Millhouse.
JY - May 13, 2010
I won't hold that at bat against Langerhans at all.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
Curiousity Question
Is it just me, or doesn’t it feel like Felix always pitches against Kevin Millwood?
mvjournal - May 13, 2010
At least half the time
And a third of his games are in Texas
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
I think they are both the number 1 pitcher. And Millwood was no. 1 in Texas last year I believe.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
Hit and runs might be the dumbest managerial move in all of baseball

Don Wakamatsu.
abender20 - May 13, 2010
Worse than pinch hitting Griffey?
Smegmalicious - May 13, 2010
Yes! Langerhans isn't exactly a contact hitter, either. I hated forcing a strike on him.
Is there any situation were a hit and run makes sense? I can’t really think of one.

Saunders and Langerhans that is.

a) we don’t know
b) this would be a nice problem to have for a change, rather than NOBODY CAN HIT AAAAAUUUUGGHHH
eponymous_coward - May 13, 2010
since you want to rosterbate...
how do you propose they keep Saunders, Bradley, Langerhans, Griffey and Sweeney on the roster when Jack Wilson comes back off the DL?
Oh, you must have meant the far end of the bench down at Alki Park. Gotcha.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
How is that rosterbating? Nowhere does it involve trades, signing, promotions/demotions
seattlesundevil - May 13, 2010
rosterbating=
“when milton comes back”
I didn’t say I was chastising you for rosterbating. I am a chronic rosterbater, myself. But you added a player to the roster and kept his replacement, and didn’t explain how to do it.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
The easiest solution here is to cut Sweeney or Colome and demote Tui.
That is what is going to happen when Milton comes back.
Mariner Melee - May 13, 2010
And Jack Wilson.
Mariner Melee - May 13, 2010
You know that, and I know that...
you actually expect them to do that? (and the original rosterbater kept both designated huggers in his “when Milton comes back” scenario)
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
Those are guys we already have.
I thought ‘bating is more of a "why don’t we trade our shitty players for these good ones" kind of thing — things that are highly unlikely to happen. Milton’s coming back.
Teej - May 13, 2010
My favorite is when contract numbers get included in the details.
Kermit. - May 13, 2010
THANK you.
seattlesundevil - May 13, 2010
i don't see the mystery here
Playing with your roster = rosterbation.
Also unlikely to happen = Milton coming back, Griffey and Sweeney on the bench and Saunders AND Langerhans on the team, unless one of them can be the backup shortstop as well.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
Since Powell became the new hitting coach, the Mariners have averaged 5 runs per game.
It’s must be the hitting coach that jump start this offense.
brian_sun - May 13, 2010
And AAA players!
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
Can Saunders bat ahead of the catcher now?
Punkhazard - May 13, 2010
No this is brilliant

wetzelcoal - May 13, 2010
Except Figgins still gets more AB's than Saunders.
Mariner Melee - May 13, 2010

refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010

Ender15 - May 13, 2010
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Crystal for DH - May 13, 2010
Hey guys, whats going on?
joof - May 13, 2010
I can't speak for everyone else,
but I am watching the Mariners on gameday. We are winning and there was an Ichiblast.
Slow Country - May 13, 2010
A swinging strike would be dreamy
Matthew - May 13, 2010
Nice!
sirbrianwilson - May 13, 2010
sooooooo dreamy
Matthew - May 13, 2010
BOOM!
Ender15 - May 13, 2010
You were just playing with them
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
FELIX!
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
Sit down guy
Schuxu - May 13, 2010
For not having a great day, Felix sure can still make MLB hitters look bad
OK, it’s the O’s, but still…
eponymous_coward - May 13, 2010
I miss werewolves in london
There. I said it.
Matthew - May 13, 2010
I miss Warren Zevon.
danhutz - May 13, 2010
I said this days ago
Dewey N - May 14, 2010
Brandon Wood has a 9/105 BB/K in 340 career PA
Hilarious
Goose - May 13, 2010

Eyebrows - May 13, 2010 via mobile
Wow they might actually take Chone back!
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
They have Izturis
Stop saying silly things.
Eyebrows - May 13, 2010 via mobile
I'm fine keeping Chone, thanks
he won’t hit this bad, and even if he does hit just a little bit better, he still has a lot of value.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
You're a Cubs fan
Matthew - May 13, 2010
Sort of!
He moved to Chicago like five years ago or something. He was one of the earlier members of the M’s blogosphere, around the same time as the Bremertonians from what I remember.
JY - May 13, 2010
I found it weird to see the royal we from someone who spends most his time at BCB
Matthew - May 13, 2010
Well, blue blood and all...
JY - May 13, 2010
God damn those kids are screamers
Robert - May 13, 2010
Is that the wave I hear?
Crystal for DH - May 13, 2010
They do the wave all the time in Baltimore
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
That is every inner-city six year old in Maryland
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Inning over!
sirbrianwilson - May 13, 2010
7 innings
1 run allowed by Felix thanks to Rob.
GREAT START!
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
That is not how we judge starts
Matthew - May 13, 2010
GOOD STARTS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Except sometimes they do
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
I like this start better than back spasms
eponymous_coward - May 13, 2010
GOOD NIGHT.
James F'n X - May 13, 2010
Woo! Felix!
seattlesundevil - May 13, 2010
Don't groundout Kotchman.
ignacio - May 13, 2010
Hehehe
Sims: “The Mariners have hit three home runs. REPEAT. The Mariners have hit three home runs!”
joof - May 13, 2010
Going into this series
The Os and Ms were the bottom two in MLB in HRs.
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
Um, no?
Astros and Mariners have been the bottom two for a while. The O’s have 31 dingers, more than double the Mariners’ total.
harkening - May 13, 2010
My bad
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
They've lengthened Felix' leash this year right?
Any way of know his average pitch count per game this year vs last?
voltron27 - May 13, 2010
*ing
voltron27 - May 13, 2010
He was a horse last year.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
That's incredible! How did he become a human being?
.Taylor - May 13, 2010
With a stroke of his mane
This is how all horses transform.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
I would totally make the bond with Felixhorse
.Taylor - May 13, 2010
Went to the future
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
103.2 this year
106.9 last year. But 96.7 through his first seven starts.
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Wow! One minute reply!
Did you even have to look this up? Color me impressed.
Rich Langford - May 13, 2010
He calculated it in his head from memory.
Eyebrows - May 13, 2010 via mobile
Jeff is actually a Mentat.
joof - May 13, 2010
I have no life :(
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Interesting, after that last outing I thought maybe they were working him too hard...
But it looks like that wasn’t cause for concern. Dominance!
voltron27 - May 13, 2010
God dammit Kotchman
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
I dislike Kotchman.
Ender15 - May 13, 2010
Langerhans for 1B!
seattlesundevil - May 13, 2010
So much for that "swing adjustment"...
seattlesundevil - May 13, 2010
Kotchman needs to go back to lining out again.
joof - May 13, 2010
I'm dreading another Sweeneybomb... what would we do?
Hobetchee - May 13, 2010
Celebrate
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Sweeney hitting home runs is good
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
I disagree...
Designated hitter homers are good… and they’ll happen more often with him on the unemployment line. * please jeffrey don’t hit me with your capt. obvious-ultra-death ray *
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
Just a pop out
All things back to normal.
seiferguy - May 13, 2010
Yes, but we wouldn't enjoy it.
PDXTai - May 13, 2010
And someone would need to yell at us for being terrible fans
eponymous_coward - May 13, 2010
Well at 5-1 it wouldn't mean very much
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
No worries
Easy popup.
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
We'd be watching the Mariners score more runs?
eponymous_coward - May 13, 2010
Sweeney and/or Griffey producing would be a very good thing.
Chris Hafner - May 13, 2010
Improbable, but good.
eponymous_coward - May 13, 2010
Just so.
Chris Hafner - May 13, 2010
Celebrate for a while then go back to hating him when he fucks everything up for another month.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
21k fans
How many of those are kids getting in for cheap…

Fett42 - May 13, 2010

Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010

Fett42 - May 13, 2010
Ty Wiggington at 2B, really?
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
Orioles baseball!
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
He couldn't even handle 3rd at all.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
Brian Roberts has torpedoed their season
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Sometimes I think Lopez just wants to go home early.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
So he can talk to Yuni
russak - May 13, 2010
Lopez is painful to watch
Stormton - May 13, 2010
There are the Mariners that we know and love.
Slow Country - May 13, 2010
And the Yankees are losing too, down 3-0 to DET
YAY!
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010

Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
We're chasing them for the Wild Card
Poochie - May 13, 2010
Oh
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
In the same sense that
eponymous_coward - May 13, 2010

eponymous_coward - May 13, 2010
7 pitches in 4 at bats, if I counted correctly.
Limerickx - May 13, 2010
Thank goodness we're on the road so Saunders can hit again
Stormton - May 13, 2010
A League of our own
Coming in.
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
Boooo
Matthew - May 13, 2010
I like the nickname "Ponyhawk"
For his haircut and thusly the man himself. I made it up myself but I don’t think anyone else is going to use it.
RunningFool - May 13, 2010
I hate using League in garbage time.
Especially with Lowe out.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
It's never garbage time for the Mariners
BrettJMiller - May 13, 2010
Splitters!
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Not a splitter
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Oh shit
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
Heh
waldo rojas - May 13, 2010
Did Corey Patterson just hit a HR?
Really?
Ender15 - May 13, 2010
He's gonna need a rocket up his ass to catch that one
Poochie - May 13, 2010
I had that idea for a Nyjer Morgan picture but couldn't realise it.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
Corey Patterson? Really?
Crystal for DH - May 13, 2010
Corey Patterson hit a home run off a Mariner.
It’s to weep.
esoteric - May 13, 2010
THEY ALWAYS GET BETTER
Jackle Mackle - May 13, 2010
So uh...why didn't you throw the changeup there, League?
BrettJMiller - May 13, 2010
Splitter, change, splange
I’m always so confused as to what to call it.
BrettJMiller - May 13, 2010
THAT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN TO BRANDON LEAGUE
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
Corey Patterson was a Mariner for a little while.
Kirk - May 13, 2010
Also FUCK YOU, COREY PATTERSON
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
Corey Patterson?
Griffin Cooper - May 13, 2010
Solo homer. Forget about it and get through the inning.
ignacio - May 13, 2010
So I was going to fill out the All Star ballot, but it's too early.
Do we have any all-stars on this team? Ichiro, Guti, Felix, Lee, Fister, League.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
SAUNDERS
Coach Owens - May 13, 2010
Guti, Ichiro, Felix
Lee hasn’t played enough.
eponymous_coward - May 13, 2010
When is voting over?
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
June-ish, I think.
eponymous_coward - May 13, 2010
hell yeah!
Ichiro, Gutierrez better get voted in if the Mariners have fans at all. Lee, Felix and Fister will all have outside shots.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
Knowing our fanbase, Griffdawg will be there.
melenious - May 13, 2010
Well...
Considering Griffey didn’t get close last year, I’m guessing no.
eponymous_coward - May 13, 2010
I guess sometimes there is a difference between being a legit all-star, and just getting voted in.
In this case, both Ichiro and Guti are legit.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
...and should get voted in.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
Uh oh
We’re back in save territory. Aardsma in the 9th!
BrianL - May 13, 2010
Better use Aardsma because anything with too much break goes right by Rob.

That is NOT a wild pitch.
ABQmsFan - May 13, 2010
HOW THE FUCK IS ROB JOHNSON EMPLOYED IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES?
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
Because they didn't want him in the minors, and found some sucker to fall in love with him (Wak).
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010

Brandon League
Gives up a lot of homers for a groundball guy. Bad luck on FB/HR? And bad luck on guys getting on-base on K’s too.
wobatus - May 13, 2010
Looked like good hitting there.
That pitch was way off the plate according to Gameday.
Wilder. - May 13, 2010
yes
But his career rate is 17.6% HR/FB. That’s kinda freakishly high. And he tops 10% year after year. He isa groundballer, but has bad luck on any balls up, I suppose.
wobatus - May 13, 2010
What the fuck happened
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
This team.
THIS FUCKING TEAM.
James F'n X - May 13, 2010
We haven't had too many of these kinds of losses (if this holds up).
ThundaPC - May 13, 2010
So the fans reached over the wall right
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Hard to tell. Honestly, I don't think so
but it merits a review
Matthew - May 13, 2010
Baltimore gets its revenge!
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Too bad they didn't save there revenge for the Yankees. The O's did beat us in 97.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
It looked like the fan bumped Saunders.
Isn’t that interference? Actually Saunders might have bumped the fan.
MFAN - May 13, 2010
No, the ball was in the crowd.
Saunders reached over the wall and probably would have caught it, but it hit some kid first. It was a legit HR
JeffJ254 - May 13, 2010
I think this is true but I couldn't tell
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
I think if the ball clears the wall there is no interference.

brian_sun - May 13, 2010
Yes I thought this too. When he came in the game I posted about how I hate bringing him in with a decent lead. He is going to wear out.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
and Sean White
and underusing Shawn Kelley, and David Aardsma as well. There’s no excuse for David Aardsma to have less appearances than Brandon League.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
League has been better than Aardsma this year.
Teej - May 13, 2010
sss?
are you saying that’s why League has more appearances than Aardsma? Surely, you’re joking. And if I needed a big strikeout, I’m still going to Aardsma. Every. Single. Time.
(By the way, how do the numbers look now?)
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
Really?
If I want a big strikeout I’m going straight to League and that splitter of his.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
I'm saying I have no problem with League getting more innings than Aardsma.
Teej - May 13, 2010
Further:
I don’t see much of a difference between the two. They’re both solid relievers who, like every reliever, are going to have awful days.
Teej - May 13, 2010
it's May 13...
If you have justification for League working practically every other day while Aardsma gets entire series off, I’d love to hear it.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
The reason it gets worse as you go further back is because he didn't have the most unhittable pitch in baseball in his arsenal until recently.
Brandon League is definitely the best reliever on this team and David Aardsma in Camden Yards would not be pretty, what with his extreme flyball tendencies.
What happened today was a big surprise but I’d have almost been expecting it with Aardsma.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
I don't really get the tone, but anyway . . .
Teej - May 13, 2010
This is why I hate Lopez lazily hacking at the first pitch last inning. NO LEAD IS BIG ENOUGH YOU LAZY FUCK!!!!
Not that the blame doesn’t fall squarely on League, who also might have assumed victory and didn’t bring his best.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010

Smegmalicious - May 13, 2010
Because League has been used A LOT. You are overusing him. 4 run leads for the M's are very rare with this offense. Why not use someone else?
brian_sun - May 13, 2010
This is what I don't understand.
Is their argument that the game wasn’t close enough to warrant League’s appearance? Because that would seem like an odd argument to make given the outcome.
Chris Hafner - May 13, 2010
In a four-run game it really isn't necessary but that wasn't the problem
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010

skywaker9 - May 13, 2010

Fett42 - May 13, 2010
League gave up the solo shot to COREY PATTERSON. And then what would of been the game tying 3 run bomb to Scott even if Rob caught / blocked the strikeout.
It is pretty much on League.
Ender15 - May 13, 2010
About the only thing Corey Patterson does well is hit for power.

He seemed out by a mile there. A whole 5280 feet.
Kirk - May 13, 2010
It was dumb to wave him around because of how close Patterson was playing
but the throw was offline enough and Wilson fast enough that he got about five feet away from making it.
Matthew - May 13, 2010
It feels stupid to blame him but our third base coach seriously sucks.
the other side - May 13, 2010
Five feet is a whole human body or about two steps.
I don’t think he could have made it. Brumley made a terrible decision since that would have only tied the game.

WHAT THE HELL BRUMLY? And screw Patterson!
SeaKoala - May 13, 2010
Mike Brumley is just the worst.
I Lick Squirrels - May 13, 2010
I like taking that chance with Chone coming up. Although bases loaded is the only time that Chone can get a RBI.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
Season over.
Hooray!
Coach Owens - May 13, 2010
Unfortunate game. Unfortunate Series. Unfortunate Season.
Slow Country - May 13, 2010
Mariners up 5-1 in the bottom of the eight.
Obvious loss. Not close.
James F'n X - May 13, 2010
I left for like 10 minutes and you guys let this happen?!?!?
Mejeh - May 13, 2010
Motherfucker.
At this point, nothing suprises me.
angrypachyderm - May 13, 2010
GOD
Bearskin Rugburn - May 13, 2010
I literally threw my soda at someone. Even scrubs cannot make this shit better.
the other side - May 13, 2010
I could watch that gif for hours
It’s oddly soothing.
Nadingo - May 13, 2010
God damnit. I really hope Texas doesn't win today.
Ender15 - May 13, 2010
Not sure it makes much difference anymore.
calim - May 13, 2010
What do we get for lee then?
gmcm2000 - May 13, 2010
Draft picks
ToddK - May 13, 2010
FUCK YOU MIKE BRUMLEY
YOU JUST FUCKING COST US THE GAME. YOU"RE FUCKING WORSE THAN GRIFFEY AND SWEENEY AND ANGEL HERNANDEZ AND MIKE REILLY COMBINED. GO DIE IN A FUCKING FIRE YOU FUCKING CUNT.
Fuckmikereilly - May 13, 2010
Change your screenname
seattlebruin - May 13, 2010
No he didn't
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
I am not aroused right now
Fett42 - May 13, 2010
unbelievable
brian_sun - May 13, 2010
WHY DOES BRUMLEY SEND EVERYONE?!
WE WOULD’VE HAD THE GOD DAMN BASES LOADED WITH A PATIENT HITTER UP AGAINST A GUY WHO CAN’T THROW STRIKES
BrettJMiller - May 13, 2010
This is an excellent question
Sigh.
urchman - May 13, 2010
Similarly, why was there a hit and run earlier
with Langerhans hitting – Langerhans. The team’s been bad, but the management is making it worse.
Bearskin Rugburn - May 13, 2010
So, 2011 sound good for you guys?
TWownsU - May 13, 2010
I can't wait until Jack Z rapes somebodies farm system for Cliff Lee.
It’s going to be awesome.
Goose - May 13, 2010
He's type A anyway
So Jack should get to work some of his draft magic. Obviously trades are more exciting.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
Raping is always more fun. Lets go all Bedard on someone.
the other side - May 13, 2010
Is Bedard type-A? Maybe he can establish some trade value in 8 weeks worth of starts?
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
Bedard will be type B at best, I think.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
We begin 14-20
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Progress!
wilsonpdx - May 13, 2010
So should I break out the scotch for this loss?
Or will beer be enough?
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
Everclear.
James F'n X - May 13, 2010
Scotch.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
.
I Lick Squirrels - May 13, 2010
I dont' do illegal drugs
Now alcohol yes.
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
When in Rome..
waldo rojas - May 13, 2010
If there was ever a time I wanted that stuff....
Alcohol works too, but these damn early games make you go through it sober.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
Was Brumley factoring in Figgins lack of hitting?
ignacio - May 13, 2010
Probably
It was a good throw.
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
A walk wins the game and oh boy does Chone Figgins ever walk
seattlebruin - May 13, 2010
A walk ties the game there.
Eyebrows - May 13, 2010 via mobile
It would only tie the game.
brian_sun - May 13, 2010
Wilson scoring only ties the game.
calim - May 13, 2010
Brumley's line of thinking.
“Durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr”
ColeFitz88 - May 13, 2010
Figgins can walk though.
Eyebrows - May 13, 2010 via mobile
What about his skill to walk and the fact that this pitcher is not really a strike thrower?
BrettJMiller - May 13, 2010
didn't stop Saunders...
from only taking one pitch when not one of them looked like a strike. Who knows what Figgins does, but Wilson had no chance to score there with Patterson in shallow left field.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
Actually, he was pretty close to scoring. If the throw is off line or Wieters doesnt do
a great job of blocking/handling the throw, then he probably does score
Rudy4three - May 13, 2010
exactly
Brumley sent him when even a poor throw only makes it close.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
They have a real catcher, they can count on this type of thing.
the other side - May 13, 2010
What the hell are you talking about?
Saunders isn’t as patient as Figgins so that comparison is moot right from the start and secondly, the pitches Saunders swung at were reasonably close to the zone.
Matthew - May 13, 2010
I wasn't comparing anybody
Just not trying to tell the future, just as Mike Brumley shouldn’t have (if that was what he was doing when he sent him).
Saunders went up there and swung at the second pitch from a guy that couldn’t find the strike zone against the remains of Junior Griffey… and started him off with a ball. I’m not saying Figgins would have done that, I’m just saying any manager worth his ass would have instructed a player to take a couple pitches.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
The second pitch was a very hittable strike
He should swing at those.
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Figgins' lack of hitting may well have equaled a bases loaded walk
If Bumley was thinking about it then he’s even more of a fucking idiot than he first seemed.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
Figgins would have walked in the tying run
seiferguy - May 13, 2010
You really like those 30% odds vs a bang-bang play at the plate
Rudy4three - May 13, 2010
Yes.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
Never should have been a close play at the plate
Matthew - May 13, 2010
every time
that play at the plate wasn’t anywhere near 30% in the Mariners favor.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
Is the season over?
After this loss I really want to cry. This team makes me so angry. Fire that stupid cow Brumly too.
SeaKoala - May 13, 2010
Fire them all
Except our pitching coach.
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
RELEASE ROBOROB NOW
Coach Owens - May 13, 2010
There is no fucking reason that he should of sent Wilson there.
Ender15 - May 13, 2010
2 outs, .180 hitter coming up.
Those are reasons, maybe not good ones, but Brumley has his own methods over there and seems to justify sending them more than holding them.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
And they keep getting thrown out
in baseball, making outs is bad, so we should try to avoid making them on the bases. This is because we only get three (3) outs per inning and they are a valuable resource which Mike Brumley SHOULD NOT WASTE SO FUCKING CASUALLY.
seattlebruin - May 13, 2010
Ok, a little miscommunication here I think.
I don’t think this is the worst send, but it was so shallow that a good throw wasn’t necessary (which is a bad time to go).
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
I'm guessing Mike Brumley wasn't thinking about the next hitter
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
If Brumley...
thought for a second Wilson had a high chance of success in scoring there, they should reassign him immediately. He’s cost this team more wins than Cockrell.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
Not the best slide by Josh.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
No slide was going to score there
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Ichiro disagrees
Bearskin Rugburn - May 13, 2010
No human slide
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Maybe, but I think you have a better chance with your hand tagging than a folded up leg.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
I'm on radio though, didn't see the play
Bearskin Rugburn - May 13, 2010
not even a great throw
was up the first base line a little bit, but from shallow left field Wilson has absolutely no chance.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
Yeah when I saw how shallow it was I thought they would hold him, the play at the plate was closer than I thought it would be.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
Disagree.
Behold.
I Lick Squirrels - May 13, 2010
13-24 in three days
Crystal for DH - May 13, 2010
Seriously, do other fans go through this?
Hobetchee - May 13, 2010
orioles fans do
Poulsbo Lumberjax - May 13, 2010
Yes
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Orioles fans don't suffer from the illusion of hope...
Hobetchee - May 13, 2010
oh yeah they do.
Matt Wieters, Adam Jones, etc. make Bmore fans delusional each spring. Trust me I followed the O’s for 27 years until I moved out here and started following the M’s. it went from a crotch kicking, to an eye gouging.
Poulsbo Lumberjax - May 13, 2010
At least the Os have a title
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
Yeah I don't think hopes should run as high in the AL East.
They are worse than the M’s, and we have the worse division. However the M’s discover ways to lose everyday, so maybe the O’s actually finish with a better record. This is like the regression from last year, when our run differential was negative but we were over .500
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
They get it worse than we do
Also there are more than two teams in baseball.
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Welcome to Baseball!
Logs of wacky stuff can happen over a 162 game season.
urchman - May 13, 2010
Oh yes
I have watched thousands of MLB games over the years and this is nowhere near the craziest I’ve ever seen.
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
3 homers, Felix Day, Loss.
Slumps hurt, but we all have to stick with the team because the good times feel better after the doldrums.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
Amen.
It sucks but sticking with them will pay off one day. Just not sure when that day will be…
bomdal - May 13, 2010
This is the worst loss of the season. No way you should lose to the O's leading by 4 runs in the 8th. They are the worst team!
brian_sun - May 13, 2010
Fixed
The
yMariners are the worst team!skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
Thank you.
brian_sun - May 13, 2010
I would agree that the Astros are worse
but they just beat Chris Carpenter, so….I’ve got nothing.
ralphie81 - May 13, 2010
*argue, not agree
ralphie81 - May 13, 2010
You shouldn't lose to any up team up 4 in the 8th and the M's are only 2 1/2 games ahead of the O's.
Birdland.
MFAN - May 13, 2010
Im still angered over the Friday night loss to Texas when we were 9-7. That seemed to
send us into disarray
Rudy4three - May 13, 2010
The Cliff start?
Ya everything really went to shit fast from there.
the other side - May 13, 2010
That was 11-11
Matthew - May 13, 2010
Ah yes you are correct.
the other side - May 13, 2010
We lost a series to the Orioles.
Wow.
w00tah - May 13, 2010
Oh my God, it's starting to finally sink in.
We just lost a series to the Baltimore Orioles. This season is over.
angrypachyderm - May 13, 2010
GIVE US OUR WIN BACK BALTIMORE!
FUCK THIS SHIT!
God Wilson was out the moment he left second base.
OceanBird - May 13, 2010
League
25 HR/133 FB in his career. 18.8%. The home runniest groundballer on the planet it seems.
wobatus - May 13, 2010
But Felix did great, right?
I only saw the top of the 9th
TWownsU - May 13, 2010
Yes
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
He did fine. Not great
Matthew - May 13, 2010
Encouraging after his last two starts.
the other side - May 13, 2010
Brumley needs to die.
Also, Saunders needs to hit third.
I Lick Squirrels - May 13, 2010
Rob Johnson's passed ball on a K was huge.
ignacio - May 13, 2010
.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
ahhhh
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Holy shit it's been a while since I've seen that one.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
MST3K!
Rec’d
voltron27 - May 13, 2010
God damnit.
Shouldn’t of lost today. How fucking demoralizing.
Ender15 - May 13, 2010
Shouldn't have, my friend.
Eyebrows - May 13, 2010 via mobile
Over the course of a season, how much should you notice a 3rd base coach?
Honestly, probably less than 5 times, right? We’re on pace to openly question Brumley’s decision-making like 30 times this season. If he does his job, you shouldn’t even notice he’s there. Any valid reason why he shouldn’t be let go? Shit, Byrnes got cut for being an idiot and not performing. Same standards should apply for coaches.
hova9 - May 13, 2010
30 times this week practically
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
And it is hillarious that Bruce Hines was not carried over as the 3B coach from last season into this one.
Ender15 - May 13, 2010
Yeah it seems like Brumley is trying to make a name for himself, when his job is not to get noticed.
If they had Rob Johnson at catcher, then I would send him all day, because Rob is going to drop the ball or lay down a shitty tag.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
WHY DIDN'T WAK PUT IN MOORE AS A DEFENSIVE REPLACEMENT FOR ROB
IF HE WAS GOING TO JUST PINCH-HIT FOR HIM ANYWAYS?!? ARGGGGH!
Coach Owens - May 13, 2010
...because then Moore would come out and there'd be no catchers left?
Crystal for DH - May 13, 2010
Because then you don't have a catcher in the bottom of the 9th?
Are you fucking retarded?
Matthew - May 13, 2010
Christ people.
I know the loss is upsetting but why do people seem so eager to abandon all reason for the sake of emoting all over the place?
Matthew - May 13, 2010
I meant that if he was going to pinch-hit for Rob.
If he doesn’t believe that Rob is the better hitter, what’s the point of him even being on the team?
Coach Owens - May 13, 2010
He believes Rob is better than Moore?
Kirk - May 13, 2010
Well then fire Wak.
Because anyone can see that Rob is horrendous behind the plate. And if they’re really calling pitches from the dugout, that takes away Rob’s best “quality”.
Coach Owens - May 13, 2010
Who said that they were calling pitches from the dugout?
Moore is also pretty bad behind the plate and it’s pretty obvious as well. I just don’t see much of a difference between the two except Moore is really, really struggling to do anything offensively at the plate. At least Rob is walking.
Kirk - May 13, 2010
I can't believe I am defending Rob Johnson.
Kirk - May 13, 2010
Didn't Jeff and, like, Matthew and stuff agree that was probable?
With that whole comparison of fastballs thrown and stuff?
Coach Owens - May 13, 2010
Just because it's probable doesn't mean it is happening.
Rob and Moore both came up in the same organization too. They both learned from the same coaches or a least similar coaches. They could have very similar game calling strategies.
Kirk - May 13, 2010
Even if they aren't calling it from the bullpen,
I thought one of the main reasons was the language barrier as well? Moore speaks English, he can actually catch the ball and he’s not any worse of a hitter. There’s still no spot whatsoever for Rob on this team.
Coach Owens - May 13, 2010
Dugout, whatever.
Coach Owens - May 13, 2010
It is because that limits flexibility the next inning.
I know Griffey sucks and all but he can walk sort of still and you can’t pinch hit Moore when you’ve already taken out Johnson. Also, Moore is pretty bad a defense too from what I’ve seen.
Kirk - May 13, 2010
But there's no need for that inning (possibly)
if Adam Moore catches that ball when Jones struck out.
Coach Owens - May 13, 2010
Griffey...
just walked… which is about his upside, at this point. Johnson could have done that, too.
jameslcrockett - May 13, 2010
Saunders is keeping me sane
With the realization that we’ll get some talent for Lee. And even if those guys take a trip to the Moon tomorrow we still have Pineda!
OceanBird - May 13, 2010
Yeah, Saunders is looking great.
Rudy4three - May 13, 2010
I think the time has now come to get Lee traded.
EnglishMariner - May 13, 2010
So have we decided whether the GS was FI yet?
FSN didn’t seam to replay it from a good angle to tell.
EnglishMariner - May 13, 2010
He might have caught it
But it was over the fence so its hard to call it fan interference.
skywaker9 - May 13, 2010
Pretty sure it was legit
Should definitely have been reviewed, though.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
Almost certainly wasn't interference
but it was close enough that it has to be reviewed there. Worse still, I think Saunders catches that if not for the fans.
Matthew - May 13, 2010
I can't believe there were fans
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
This was my reaction.
the other side - May 13, 2010
Seriously
If this weren’t a promotion night we’d have won this game.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
Promotion mid afternoon.
Kirk - May 13, 2010
Time zones!
Promotion evening, then.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
The game started at 12:30 local time
Matthew - May 13, 2010
5:30 for me.
But yes, it was just a slip of the tongue that I was trying to defend.
Eyeball Kid - May 13, 2010
WHY WASN'T IT RAINING
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
I think Saunders absolutely catches it if not for the fans.
Kirk - May 13, 2010
Man I'm at work and had been listening to the game and now ...
…. I just don’t want to do anything but cry and not do work.
Ender15 - May 13, 2010
Hey we didn't score a doily
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
The first legit series of runs we score and we lose. Awesome.
the other side - May 13, 2010
Mariners!
Jeff Sullivan - May 13, 2010
Oh thats right. This was a must win too. Heh. That was nice.
the other side - May 13, 2010
We need a Miguel Cabrera type player to make the playoffs.
This team just pisses me off. The bullpen is only good when we are losing.
refuse2lose2010 - May 13, 2010
I'm waiting for the Mike Brumley fired Tweet and the ensuing reaction.
