Hooooly smokes people. We get right into this time around wasting no time at all with our usual pre-pod chit chat. This is raw and unedited! We get ranty after a particulary brutal stretch of play from the Mariners. Nearly the entire roster is discussed along with some Padre fever!

Is it weird
That I look forward to these every week?

I like raw and unedited.
Makes me feel like an insider.
Mataya - May 13, 2010
This is the most depressing podcast ever
RunningFool - May 13, 2010
So many helpless sighs

Hats just typical Matthew.

Rob Johnson rant, nice work.
Kermit. - May 13, 2010
Speaking of Rob Johnson, is HD good enough to see if he flinches when the batter swings?
There was a gif last season, he was peeking at the runner at 2B just before the ball reached his mitt and fell out. Now I’m wondering if he blinks when the hitter swings.
Kermit. - May 13, 2010
Sweet!
I loved your last podcast, especially when you discussed whether you would have an open thread for 9/11 or not if it happend again. But I was over a week late in listening to it, so it was really painful to hear you guys be all optimistic about Cliff Lee making his first start and shit when I already knew how it turned out. Gonna listen to it right away this time.

Correct me if I'm wrong...
But I thought that the only time instant replay is allowed is in fair/foul situations. Which, if true, is ridiculous.
Mataya - May 13, 2010
You're wrong.
It’s allowed in deciding home runs
Matthew - May 13, 2010
Got it, thanks.
Still needs to be expanded though. Challenges from the booth or something.
Mataya - May 13, 2010
I remembered the fan interference with Endy Chavez last year. Turns out it was against Baltimore and in almost the same spot too.
Here’s the video. The Orioles broadcast picks up on it right away and Endy makes a fuss about it.
Janic - May 14, 2010
I loved Endy.
He deserved a better fate. KIA by the weakest member of his unit.
TheBishop - May 14, 2010
I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
I thought I was the only one who wondered if people remembered Ken Griffey Jr. pinch-hitting for Chone Figgins.
ThundaPC - May 13, 2010
You guys uploaded the wrong podcast on itunes and RSS/XML link
It’s playing the April 29th podcast on both of them. The only way to listen to the new one is to listen to it here on the webpage.
Mind of no mind - May 14, 2010
what he said
alon91 - May 14, 2010
Fixed
Matthew - May 14, 2010
Was hoping to hear about Brumley. He fucking sucks.
But as for the rest, it was all shit that needed to be said. I disagree with you guys on one thing though, I do think we need a big bat like A-Gon. Someone who will give us .280, 30 homer, 100 rbi’s on a consistent basis. and he will draw walks. Rob Johnson sucks. I always gave him the benefit of the doubt until yesterday. Changes need to be made and damn the friendships. Wak needs to do whats best for winning and not keeping people happy.
FisteeFisterer - May 14, 2010
I think the point is that every team in the world needs someone like Adrian Gonzalez, and that's not really possible or necessary.
CapSea - May 14, 2010
The most depressing bit about this podcast was the point about how the few miraculous things we've seen this season have been utterly wasted.
We’ve been fortunate enough to have Jose Lopez play a brilliant third base, Gutierrez to be amazing defensively andz offensively, and Vargas/Fister to hold down their spots really well. And even despite that, the season has sucked.
The dark lining to that dark cloud is that if any of those great things comes back to Earth, it could cancel out some of the positive regression we’re hoping for from basically everyone else. It’s tempting to think that any regression will be positive – how could things possibly go worse? – but it’s a two-way street. Sigh.
Chris Hafner - May 14, 2010
I'm done with Wak
I can not honestly say he’s made the team better for his management this year. Every game he does something that fills me with barely contained rage. That’s not what I want out of a manager.
Drew_D - May 14, 2010
We should go get Trey Hillman!
Yeah!
ThundaPC - May 14, 2010
The thing about the Ms chances on making the playoffs
is that it’s really not correct to apply an average based on many results to a single team. How it should be stated is that, if you took a bunch of teams with the Ms record right now, on average, most would not make the playoffs. Probably should ask what are the Ms’ chances of being the outlier, beacuse just as sure as most teams will fail, there will be a few teams that make it.
I agree with whoever said, more or less, that this team with a few breaks, better luck with BIP, or a few hitters actually hitting, etc., could easily start winning. Add to that the weak division, and this team probably does still have decent odds to be the outlier and make the playoffs.
But only if something is done with Griffey. IMO.
PackBob - May 14, 2010
Not to get greedy but...
Did I miss last week’s podcast? The last one I have is from April 30.
Here’s an idea: If you guys didn’t do one last week, do it now, retroactively. IE only use information that was available as of May 4 or so. Just think – back then, we had only lost 3 in a row and were just a couple of games out of first! You could be optimistic about turning things around in the upcoming Rays series, and all sorts of happy goodness like that. Sort of a reverse of the usual scenario where the podcast is recorded before the outcome of that days game is known.
shuswapslugger - May 14, 2010
Jeff lost his voice.
Sweeney!
Janic - May 14, 2010
The Johnson rant was excellent.
I loved that Jeff was so agitated during the Johnson rant that the sound was disrupted. I was envisioning his veins popping out more and more, his arms gesticulating wildly, until he began to smash the microphone like a rock star smashes his guitar.
Chris Hafner - May 14, 2010
Yesterday was depressing
The disillusionment in this podcast made me feel a lot better though. Hm. The Rob Johnson bit was awesome.
E-Lizz - May 14, 2010
Loved the Drop Johnson rant
Funny enough, yesterday I was discussing the team this year with my brother and randomly ended up on a Drop Johnson rant myself that in content more or less mirrored yours; however, yours was infinitely more epic due to the swearing and barely checked rage. Best 3 minutes of the podcast this week by far. :-)

Kirk McLean, maybe?
JordanB - May 14, 2010
I had the exact reaction on that Griffey swing too
Sitting with my wife, I audibly yelled “Holy shit, he did it!!” and then saw how it was basically a pop up and replied “Yeah, that’s as hard as he can hit a ball now.”
Depressing.
seattlesundevil - May 14, 2010
Re: Griffey, Sleeping
I agree with you about it not being that big of a deal by itself, but it’s sort of like:
- He can’t play the field anymore, so he needs to DH, but
- He can’t hit well enough to be an everyday DH, so he needs to PH, but
- He can’t stay awake long enough to be a reliable PH, so..
..GO

Yeah, I mean
Who would have bet that the Padres would far and away the better team coming into the series next weekend?
