…in association with Safeco insurance, Mike “Sluggo” Sweeney, and Rob “(Glove) Like a Rock” Johnson have declared that Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays of this baseball season shall be henceforth “Depress the Fanbase” weekends! Come to the ballpark! Free razor blades to the first 20,000 fans!
which I imagine is why it’s dispersed throughout the graph…the continued offensive struggles are very frustrating but entirely predictable sans line-up changes.
*He may have been christened with another name, but really, it’s not important enough to remember. Sorry.
I am curious exactly HOW the M's can fix the offense
and still keep the model the team is based on. There are going to be very few outstanding defenders with an adequate or better bat available for the M’s to go out and grab. Outside of pulling off a deal for Agon, where exactly does the help come from?
It's too bad, he had to be so terrible at offense.
I actually liked him despite his awfulness but I want a winning team, not a team of guys I like or feel bad for. That bike story though just makes me love him.
If Griffey is still our starting DH against RHP, Langerhans won’t get any more playing time than Tui. This basically installs Sweeney as the perma-DH vs LHP.

The 2010 Seattle Mariners...

Chart interpretation help
I still don’t know how to read these cool charts. What do I search for or where can I learn what these mean?
Sorry if this is a redundant/bothersome post—it’s my first time at LL.

Thank you
very much! I’ve often wondered about these….
Cepstrum - May 2, 2010 via mobile
There's always been a link underneath the chart
Jeff Sullivan - May 2, 2010
Oops
I missed that.
I also can’t find how to interpret the picture of the grim-looking man who appears periodically. ;)

That is feigned-shock man*

Surprised face.
Eyebrows - May 2, 2010
I want to light every team members blood on fire.
It might be in their veins, it might not. I’m gonna play this one by ear. GAWD.

awesome SN btw
knockoutking - May 2, 2010
A league average left fielder would push Bradley to DH and keep Griffey and Sweeney out of the lineup.
It doesn’t need to be AGon. It needs to be someone with above the combined sub-500 OPS of Griffey/Sweeney/Byrnes.
Fuckmikereilly - May 2, 2010
Z is going to have to make some sort of move soon
because I think the fans are going to start seeing Sweeney as more of a waste of space than some great clubhouse guy.
Fin - May 2, 2010
Fun fact! Doug Fister is so awesome if you look up his name on google images you actually get pictures of Doug Fister!
With safe search off!
Slurvey - May 2, 2010
Yeah but only if you include the "Doug"
RunningFool - May 2, 2010
Why wouldn't you include the Doug?
That’s his name.
TrustBaseball - May 2, 2010
For God's sake don't forget the U in Doug.
JAH - May 2, 2010
This series cost one or more players their job, didn't it?
BrianL - May 2, 2010
Brandon League for closer!
Slurvey - May 2, 2010
Hopefully!
Eyeball Kid - May 2, 2010
Hopefully Byrnes at least will get canned
That kind of sheer stupidity and his awful hitting throughout shouldn’t be rewarded.
Sam Regens - May 2, 2010
And the drugs
Cantu Easley Winn - May 2, 2010
It's too bad, he had to be so terrible at offense.
I actually liked him despite his awfulness but I want a winning team, not a team of guys I like or feel bad for. That bike story though just makes me love him.
Hopefulmsfan - May 2, 2010
Would it be better to see him used in a straight LF platoon before giving up on his bat?
Or is he done?
Kermit. - May 2, 2010
Well, as we now know, he's done.
But a straight LF platoon with Langerhans and Milton DH’ing would’ve been lovely!
harkening - May 3, 2010
Reason for optimism?
Guti had some good at bats after an attrocious couple days. Glad to see he didn’t panic and just stayed patient.
Hopefulmsfan - May 2, 2010
Knew as soon as the Rangers got a runner to second in the ninth that this would be a loss
Didn’t even watch the rest. I’m surprised they didn’t lose it in the 9th.
Aly Edge - May 2, 2010
Just a frustrating, frustrating series.
Slow Country - May 2, 2010
From Divish
Byrnes gone, Tui down. Langerhans and Josh Wilson up
Brian Floyd - May 2, 2010
And a link would help
Here
Brian Floyd - May 2, 2010
Yes!
OceanBird - May 2, 2010
I would have preferred Hannahan, but it seems like the team wants him to get more at-bats.
At least now he’s cleared to get work at short in Tacoma.
BrianL - May 2, 2010
That must be it
At some point pretty soon they should be swapping Josh Wilson for Hannahan.
Brian Floyd - May 2, 2010
And we're still stuck with Sweeney.
BrianL - May 2, 2010
I can only hope he's one hack away from the 60 day DL.
Brian Floyd - May 2, 2010
I'm hoping that him getting scratched today was the precursor to a DL stint with sucktitis.
BrianL - May 2, 2010
Remove that last "i" and I propose a new nickname for Sweeney.
lailaihei - May 2, 2010
Wonderful news.
Eyeball Kid - May 2, 2010
Yes, overdue by a game at least though.
Sam Regens - May 2, 2010
I'm still pissed that we're stuck with the Ken Sweeney Jr. experiment
But you gotta start somewhere
Stormton - May 2, 2010
Keeping Sweeney, getting rid of Byrnes...
Uh… I’m not understanding this.
lailaihei - May 2, 2010
Sure it's not ideal
but at this point any action is welcome.
Eyeball Kid - May 2, 2010
I don't think this change makes us better.
If Griffey is still our starting DH against RHP, Langerhans won’t get any more playing time than Tui. This basically installs Sweeney as the perma-DH vs LHP.
lailaihei - May 2, 2010
Bradley?
Eyeball Kid - May 2, 2010
Yes, hopefully Bradley gets more playing time as DH with one of the present "DH"s losing time
And Langerhans can fill in at LF.
Sam Regens - May 2, 2010
Any change is good for me at this point.
For one thing, at least it establishes the fact that they’ll make changes, even if the changes are not per se the ones I would suggest.
ignacio - May 2, 2010
The SBN scoreboard widget at the top of the front page says we're still winning
I’m gonna go with that.
Brian Floyd - May 2, 2010
There's still hope guys!
