A few key injuries, a Cliff Lee trade, and with our bad luck persisting we could theoretically have the worst record at the end of the 2010 season and thus be eligible for the 1st overall pick in the 2011 draft. But probably not.
What exactly to the masses think one should be fired for then if it’s not atrocious decisions late in games or horrible line up calls or the apparent lack of preparation & leadership.
“Erick Aybar singles on a bunt ground ball to shortstop Josh Wilson. Erick Aybar out at 2nd, shortstop Josh Wilson to second baseman Chone Figgins. One out.
It also seemed to have a bit of carry to it. I was surprised it went out. Regardless, it’s not like it was a meatball like League’s pitch to Morales yesterday. I’m not terribly mad at Aardsma.
We just seem to win the 1-run games this year and y’all seem to be losing them all. And two walk off wins, especially against the hated Slegna is not fair.
Every game has about 3 or four ridiculous baserunning mistakes, among many, many other things. This team loses games on its own. It’s not just the 8th inning onward – most of the runs this team scores are undeserved, and it purposely tries to score less runs throughout the game, and that’s not even discussing the bullpen management. It’s really not a good team. This is a bad team.
1) Do you consider the massive amount of baserunning errors a lack of skill or simply poor playing?
2) wOBAr is based on previous BABIP for individual outcomes, but is it possible that they are simply hitting it much worse?
3) Our bullpen, a should-be strength, was made worse by the changes to League’s delivery, Colome, Aardsma’s struggles, etc..
I have a feeling I have a different answer to these than you, so to me this is a less than decent team.
and Lopez’s move to 3B have worked out wonderfully. More than wonderfully. It’s not like everything has gone wrong. You can contribute much of it to bad luck, but the roster just wasn’t constructed to win this division. It’s not GMZ’s fault, of course. Too many constraints.
Keep in mind Snell and RRS are a chunk of “back of the rotation”.
If you don’t think the non-Griff/Sweendawg parts of the roster hitting at career norms and an extra month of Cliff Lee would have us ~.500, I really don’t know what to say, other than “I think you’re wrong”. The Rangers are 26-23, and I don’t see why a roster like this isn’t capable of contending IF most of it isn’t hitting below the Mendoza line.
That being said, it was a very risk-filled roster. It was counting on performances out of Kotchman, Vargas, Fister, Griffey, Bradley, and a handful of relievers. None were a certainty. A few panned out, a few didn’t. We couldn’t have anticipated Lopez and Figgins struggling this badly, but I don’t think career average performances from them would have saved this team. We would still probably be in it, but the talent just isn’t there.
I'd say that it was constructed well, given the situation (cumulative Bavasi buttfuck to the farm system and major league organization, weak FA class, and apparent budget constraints).
Obviously, there are several players on this roster that you wouldn’t normally expect on a “well-constructed” team, but I have to keep reminding myself that the M’s lost 101 games just a month and a half ago. That we even expect to do well is saying something.
I think it was constructed with a great deal of inherent risk.
The risks didn’t work out, or at least haven’t so far. It was probably close to as well put together as it could have been, but the bust potential was there and it appears to have been realized.
Unless you plan on getting better pitchers than Vargas, Snell, RRS, and Fister for Figgins and Lopez and better 2nd/3rd basemen than Lopez and Figgins for Vargas, Snell, Fister, and RRS.
I wanna see Ichi pitch for the Ms.

Huh...
I thought Wak was a good manager last year.
IlliniM - May 30, 2010
Clearly that one decision voids it completely
Matthew - May 30, 2010

Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
But memorial day was the 25th
Cantu Easley Winn - May 30, 2010
Whatever. Shut up.

No Kendry Morales this time though!
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
We even had our 4th string catcher in the lineup!
Corco - May 30, 2010
Everything. Right down to the obscure catcher nobody's heard of.

Toronto Blue Jays fans would beg to differ :(

Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
I like Dave Sims asking if the M's can keep the Angels "off" the board
That is the wrong question. The question is can the M’s stop “putting” the Angels on board.

Bunt….
Maury Povich - May 30, 2010
I doubt this will happen.
MFAN - May 30, 2010
Someone bring the man home
krb - May 30, 2010
That's every LLer's dream.
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
I'd really like Figgy to hit a HR
Just to troll them.
TWownsU - May 30, 2010
All Ms broadcasters suck
Mentink just said that Nix took Bartlett deep, not Shields
IlliniM - May 30, 2010
The M's broadcasters are great.
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Except Mike Blowers
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Rizzs, too.
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
I'd take Rizz over Blowers
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
I wouldn't.
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Mentink isn't an M's broadcaster
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Just kidding guys
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Wow, that really was close.
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
You know we're spoiled when you expect Guti to make that catch.
I kinda did to be honest.
TWownsU - May 30, 2010
I'm still impressed.
He was there for a while waiting for it with his belly on the top of the wall. Just hangin’ out.
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
Cmon Figgy
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
They bring in Kevin Jepsen, we have RRS warming up in the pen
Nobody actually wants to win this game
Nick S - May 30, 2010
Race to the bottom
ungoreatstefan - May 30, 2010
Our draft pick is gonna be better than yourrrs!
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
Seriously... when does Wak get canned?
DHforHOF - May 30, 2010
In five years.
ThundaPC - May 30, 2010
Fuck.
DHforHOF - May 30, 2010
Seriously, it's way too early for that
jwolf0 - May 30, 2010
Why? We have all seen the line up cards.
DHforHOF - May 30, 2010
Managers make way more decisions than just line up cards.
And Wak isn’t responsible for this team sucking
Matthew - May 30, 2010
Not soley. No. Yesterday was flat out retarded though.
Sweeney was going to hit for Johnson instead of Tui…why?
DHforHOF - May 30, 2010
You don't fire a manager for that
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
He's not perfect. No manager is.
But firing him is reactionary and not going to solve anything.
Matthew - May 30, 2010
Ok so here we go again. get in line... right?
What exactly to the masses think one should be fired for then if it’s not atrocious decisions late in games or horrible line up calls or the apparent lack of preparation & leadership.
DHforHOF - May 30, 2010
The hitting coach though...
DHforHOF - May 30, 2010
What the hell are you talking about?
Matthew - May 30, 2010
You will never find a manager who does everything right
and Wak’s decisions are not the problem. What does firing him accomplish?
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
It's not Wak's fault nearly every batter in the lineup has been horribly unlucky
Jackle Mackle - May 30, 2010
Who else would be warming up in the BP?
IlliniM - May 30, 2010
We have used Colome, Kelley, Texeira
League is probably unavailable, Aardsma will undoubtedly pitch an inning. Jesus Wak, be less terrible and warm up…erm…
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
Turned on the game in the 7th
Moot point though since Kelley stayed in and has looked good
Nick S - May 30, 2010
Also I regret starting the whole subthread
Nick S - May 30, 2010
Somebody called Figger a traitor.
Figger looked concerned.
SeaKoala - May 30, 2010
That was a mariners fan right?
WestCoastBias. - May 30, 2010
Umm so apperently he cant throw strikes
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Hm
Schuxu - May 30, 2010
Damn guti
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
GET MAD BRADLEY
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Please Milton
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Bradley is going to be very mad if he doesn't do something.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
Just plate a run, I need some peace of mind.
ThundaPC - May 30, 2010
Damn
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
UGHHH
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Seems every bat breaks for Milton
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
I am very unconfident.
TWownsU - May 30, 2010
This is driving me crazy.
It’s like I know we’re gonna lose but I’m not sure how painful it will be.
ThundaPC - May 30, 2010
I could be at Folklife right now but nooo.
The Mariners had to go and make me care about them.
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
BAD BASERUNNING WOOO
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Alto - May 30, 2010
What the?
ThundaPC - May 30, 2010
AAHAHAHAHAHAHA
IlliniM - May 30, 2010
Well that was retarded.
Goose - May 30, 2010
HAHAHAAHAHAHAAH BITCH
Jackle Mackle - May 30, 2010
BUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
WTF was that?
DHforHOF - May 30, 2010
What in the dickens
JLC - May 30, 2010
What the hell happened? MLB.TV GRRR!
SeaKoala - May 30, 2010
Stupidity Angels
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Um what
Punkhazard - May 30, 2010
AHAHAHAHAHA
Angels Baseball: So annoying we piss ourselves off!
jwolf0 - May 30, 2010
What in the flying fuck
Nick S - May 30, 2010
GREEDY BITCH
JBell523 - May 30, 2010
What the fuck?
TWownsU - May 30, 2010
Whoa, MLB.tv came back late there
I was greeted by ’EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE’S OUT’
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Me too.
SeaKoala - May 30, 2010
He was safe if he slid right.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
He looked kinda safe to me
JLC - May 30, 2010
He got his hand down, then it came off before his body reached the base.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
But Figgins never tagged him when his hand came off the base
At least I don’t think he did.
JLC - May 30, 2010
Didn't. The out call was on the initial slide, rightly or wrongly.
Matthew - May 30, 2010
He never tagged when he came completely off past the base
but as he was sliding in, his hand touched then came off. Figgins kept the tag on.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
Thanks for being stupid Aybar
skywaker9 - May 30, 2010
SIT DOWN
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Way outside, holy shit
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Kelly = Pimp juice
ttotmax - May 30, 2010
Oh wow, Kelley still in!
Maury Povich - May 30, 2010
It's cause he's actually throwing strikes.
seattle_since_81 - May 30, 2010
Nelson Cruz is back on the DL
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
Yay
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Delicious, delicious schadenfreude.
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Hes fucking dealing
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
.
“Erick Aybar singles on a bunt ground ball to shortstop Josh Wilson. Erick Aybar out at 2nd, shortstop Josh Wilson to second baseman Chone Figgins. One out.
ThundaPC - May 30, 2010
It counts as a single if he makes it to 1st base even if he does get thrown out trying to stretch it to a double.
seattle_since_81 - May 30, 2010
How stupid would "Aybar doubles on a bunt ground ball to shortstop Josh Wilson" have looked?
Schuxu - May 30, 2010
If Fister doesn't go deep tommorow
We are screwed
IlliniM - May 30, 2010
Hyphen
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
No we're not.
Nobody except Kelley will likely be unavailable tomorrow
Matthew - May 30, 2010
Exactly
Who would fill Kelley’s role of Bullpen awesomeness?
IlliniM - May 30, 2010
Ha!
Karma Police - May 30, 2010
This game has really exceeded a reasonable length
Corco - May 30, 2010
Kelley's strikeout to Izturis was the most lefty strike of all time
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
I don't care if that was a bad call on the Aybar play
We deserve a break.
skywaker9 - May 30, 2010
Because a ball hitting an umpire to give us a run was totally fair.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
Meh
The way this season has gone, we deserve a lot of breaks to rebalance the karma.
skywaker9 - May 30, 2010
Maybe the gods would give us a title
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Or at least not another crap losing season.
skywaker9 - May 30, 2010
As fair as Catcher's Interference
At this point I don’t care. We’ll take what we can get.
jwolf0 - May 30, 2010
Catcher's interference is the fault of the catcher
Hitting an umpire is complete dumb luck. But whatever, lets get some runs.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
I know, I was pointing along the lines of "dumb random shit."
jwolf0 - May 30, 2010
So the Aybar AB will take up extra room on the WE chart?
jwolf0 - May 30, 2010
Kelley is good.
SeaKoala - May 30, 2010
KK FUCK YEAH
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
What a pitch
Matt Erickson - May 30, 2010
<3 Shawn Kelley
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
KELLEY!!!!
IlliniM - May 30, 2010
SIT DOWN ABREU!
skywaker9 - May 30, 2010
Kelley for primary set-up man!
Maury Povich - May 30, 2010
KELLEY!
Allen Wu - May 30, 2010
WHY THE FUCK WAS HE EVER SENT DOWN?
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Belief Systemâ„¢ and Sean White.
Big Jared - May 30, 2010
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE JUST GET 1 INSURANCE RUN
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
I just noticed
…Alfonzo is wearing a Tacoma Rainiers helmet while catching.
FrayLo - May 30, 2010
I thought he was, but I wasn't sure.
SeaKoala - May 30, 2010
Maybe he has an abnormally large head and has to wait for a new one to be custom made
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Sucks Bradley's the only guy without a hit
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Holy crap Shawn Kelley's LOB% is hilariously high.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
Oh no, I'm starting to feel comfortable...that's when the bad things happen.
MFAN - May 30, 2010
Rodney will not help you with that
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Don't worry, Aardsma soon!
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Oh that's right, I'm nervous again!
MFAN - May 30, 2010
I never feel comfortable because we are the Mariners
Nick S - May 30, 2010
Oh good its Rodney. We have a chance
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Sweeney gave it a nice try
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
C'mon Lopiewalk!
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
Weee!
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
I'm glad Sims decided he needed to correct his LA Law mistake 3 hours after the fact
wetzelcoal - May 30, 2010
It was a trending topic on Twitter
Kermit. - May 30, 2010
LOPIE WALKS WOW
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
2 walks today!
Maury Povich - May 30, 2010
crazy
ttotmax - May 30, 2010
Jose Lopez is very ambitious.
Cablinasian - May 30, 2010
SCORE RUNS NOW!
ThundaPC - May 30, 2010
AMBITIOUS BUT REASONABLE
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
1/5th of the way to 50!!
MFAN - May 30, 2010
1/4th of the way through the season!
IlliniM - May 30, 2010
Not yet he's not
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
Oh, thought that was 10!
MFAN - May 30, 2010
Steal
ttotmax - May 30, 2010
Fuck No
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
This has honestly been one of the least entertaining games of baseball I have ever watched.
Should have known with the pitching matchup.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
And it's going to be at least 3.5 hours long.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
I wonder what the most pitches thrown in a 9 inning game is
and is this game getting close to it?
seattle_since_81 - May 30, 2010
It would have to be a high scoring game.
25-14 or something.
Maury Povich - May 30, 2010
Jose Lopez wears earplugs because the sound of his thighs scraping together when he runs gives him a headache.
Fernando Rodney’s pickoff throws are why people hate baseball.
Aaron Campeau - May 30, 2010
Kotchwalkit!
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
WOW KOTCH WALK
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Two years, $11m
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
DON'T EVER SWING
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Alfonzo vs. Rodney is one of those matchups you pay to see
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
If you live in Salt Lake City eight years ago
Aaron Campeau - May 30, 2010
Where art thou, Langerhans?
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
Is he still sore with his back?
IlliniM - May 30, 2010
I saw him chatting to Alfonzo in the dugout earlier so he's still alive, at least.
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
I honestly forgot he was even on the team
Stormton - May 30, 2010
Hahaha GIDP he fits right in
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Ugh/
Punkhazard - May 30, 2010
Should have fallen down Kotch
Matthew - May 30, 2010
MORE LIKE ALFONSLOW
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Now that's a pun!
SeaKoala - May 30, 2010
DID YOU THINK OF THAT YOURSELF?!?
Coach Owens - May 30, 2010
I BELIEVE SO
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Here we go
Time to close the case.
skywaker9 - May 30, 2010
Based on a sample size of one at-bat Alfonzo blows
Nick S - May 30, 2010
All I ask is that this godforsaken game doesn't go into extras.
I’m a cynic.
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
Time for the DA heart attack.
TWownsU - May 30, 2010
Time to be terrified
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
That necklace is awful
JLC - May 30, 2010
I hate to add to the side conversation
But i agree, her necklace is terrible
ambrosia2112 - May 30, 2010
I was also thinking this.
What is it? A mutated star?
Maury Povich - May 30, 2010
Buckle your seatbealts, men and women
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Three and a half hours of awesome baseball. And now some Aardsma!!!
Big Jared - May 30, 2010
Why would we not pinch hit there?
I understand he’s had a home run and 4 RBI today, but he’s Eliezer Alfonzo.
Also, Kotch easily could have gotten into more of a rundown to avoid the DP.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
With who?
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
GRIFFEY!
seattle_since_81 - May 30, 2010
One of the 3 lefties we have sitting around?
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
Because that puts Rob Johnson behind the plate?
Good enough reason for me.
jwolf0 - May 30, 2010
I could go for some sextras right about now.
Bicycle Rider - May 30, 2010
Happy Holidays
ThundaPC - May 30, 2010
The Diamondbacks' pitching staff has a HR/FB of 15.5%
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
Oh boy it's this Aardsma
Aaron Campeau - May 30, 2010
This is the only Aardsma.
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
He pitched great last time out I think?
wazzu93 - May 30, 2010
But mostly he makes me have a heart attack.
wazzu93 - May 30, 2010
NOT A STRIKE
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
I CAN'T FUCKING TAKE MORE WALKS
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Bad news
Nick S - May 30, 2010
Oh you bitch
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Damn
skywaker9 - May 30, 2010

Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
WHERE THE FUCK IS THAT PITCH??
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Uh
Alto - May 30, 2010
OH FUCK YOU UMP
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Yeah that's a strike
Grady Clapp - May 30, 2010
Damn it, that was a strike.
jwolf0 - May 30, 2010
Damn you karma!
FairWeatherFred - May 30, 2010
Umm, that was the most blatant strike I've ever seen.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
FUCK THIS FUCKING UMPIRE
Matt Erickson - May 30, 2010
So, that looked good,
MFAN - May 30, 2010
FUCK THIS UMP
K’D HIM TWICE
Baconburger - May 30, 2010
WOW
Egregious.
Matt Wilson - May 30, 2010
Par for this umpire's course
JLC - May 30, 2010
Looked like a strike to me.
Maybe Alfonso interfered by catching it?
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
I thought I missed the game, but they're still playing
ignacio - May 30, 2010
Just in time!!
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
Sigh...
Walk off incoming.
TWownsU - May 30, 2010
Sam Holbrook and the tale of the incredible shrinking strike zone
skywaker9 - May 30, 2010
Why do I feel like our chances of winning are like 25% right now?
chotz - May 30, 2010
That's why.
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
40%
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
64 right now
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Holy shit.
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
If they hit a walk-off homerun
They get to test out their new walk-off proceedures
ThundaPC - May 30, 2010
Wow
Schuxu - May 30, 2010
HEART ATTACK CHRIST
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Wow.
w00tah - May 30, 2010

Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010

TWownsU - May 30, 2010

skywaker9 - May 30, 2010
Oh my gawd..
JBell523 - May 30, 2010
Oh son of a bitch.
Bicycle Rider - May 30, 2010
Hahahahaha, damn.
Jackle Mackle - May 30, 2010
That was fucking terrifying
Alto - May 30, 2010
Well I'm going to need a new pair of pants
JLC - May 30, 2010
David Aardsma, everyone.
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Oh Jesus I thought that was gone
ignacio - May 30, 2010
I'm beginning to think warning track fly balls are a skill.
CapSea - May 30, 2010
Beltre agrees.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
whew....
WestCoastBias. - May 30, 2010
I fucking hate Aardsma so much
Aaron Campeau - May 30, 2010
This is the scariest rollercoaster I've ever been on
IlliniM - May 30, 2010
I wish Sweeney was here, I could use a hug after that
wetzelcoal - May 30, 2010
OK WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
This is the most amazing game I have ever seen.
Goose - May 30, 2010

skywaker9 - May 30, 2010
Good fucking God
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
CATCH THE BALL YOU TWAT

He had a reaction time of literally 0 seconds.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010

Half-joking.
My thoughts: YES NO YES NO NOOOOOO
Grady Clapp - May 30, 2010

TWownsU - May 30, 2010

craig3410 - May 30, 2010
That would have been sexy
JBell523 - May 30, 2010
Yup.
MFAN - May 30, 2010
NOT A STRIKE
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
What the fuck do you do if you're the runner on that play?
Goose - May 30, 2010
Freeze in case its caught
skywaker9 - May 30, 2010
Lunge five different directions at once.
seattle_since_81 - May 30, 2010
So stand still?
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
OH MY GOD
Aardsma needs an extra inch on his wingspan.
jwolf0 - May 30, 2010
Or some glue in his fucking glove
EequalsMc2 - May 30, 2010
Holy balls we got a low strike call
JLC - May 30, 2010
A COUPLE OF BATTERS TOO FUCKING LATE
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
I'd have rather we got it with Matsui.
Yaten - May 30, 2010
Please K.
ThundaPC - May 30, 2010
Somwhere, Buffalo Wild Wings is involved in this
Grady Clapp - May 30, 2010

This made me laugh.
But I fucking hate that commercial.

JBell523 - May 30, 2010
It really was just like last year!
Alto - May 30, 2010
Not a bad pitch
Matthew - May 30, 2010
It really wasn't. Up and in, no idea how he hit that out to right center
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Didn't realize Kendrick had that kind of power
Pretty impressed
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
He has his flashes.
TheAngelsColts - May 30, 2010
It was well-hit
It also seemed to have a bit of carry to it. I was surprised it went out. Regardless, it’s not like it was a meatball like League’s pitch to Morales yesterday. I’m not terribly mad at Aardsma.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
Warm day, wind blowing out
Usually a double
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
Season Over.

Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
i can't even blame Aardsma, I feel like we were destined to lose that one.
MFAN - May 30, 2010
how many games this year have we lost after being ahead in the 8th?

I am done forever.
MarinerFaninAZ - May 30, 2010
WE COME AGAIN!
Grady Clapp - May 30, 2010
Maybe the secret to winning is to have more people thrown out on the basepaths.
We don’t do that nearly enough.
CapSea - May 30, 2010
.
CapSea - May 30, 2010
I can see where Don Quixote was coming from..
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
He must have been a Mariners fan.
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
We don't?
ignacio - May 30, 2010
Fuck this, I'm going to Folklife.
Jeremariner - May 30, 2010
Meh.
Goose - May 30, 2010
Well, that just happened.
eponymous_coward - May 30, 2010
I'm so sorry, LL.
Life is not being fair to you. At all. That fucking sucked.
Leopold Bloom - May 30, 2010
Thanks for the support.
:(
Jackle Mackle - May 30, 2010
It's fair.
We’re really that terrible.
CapSea - May 30, 2010
You guys are so similar to us, it's not real.
We just seem to win the 1-run games this year and y’all seem to be losing them all. And two walk off wins, especially against the hated Slegna is not fair.
Leopold Bloom - May 30, 2010
We're really that terrible though.
CapSea - May 30, 2010
I'd call it a decent team playing poorly
Matthew - May 30, 2010
I'm not convinced of this.
Depending on how you define “decent.”
CapSea - May 30, 2010
.500-ish
Matthew - May 30, 2010
.500 or real close will win the west.
Leopold Bloom - May 30, 2010
For discussion:
1) Do you consider the massive amount of baserunning errors a lack of skill or simply poor playing?
2) wOBAr is based on previous BABIP for individual outcomes, but is it possible that they are simply hitting it much worse?
3) Our bullpen, a should-be strength, was made worse by the changes to League’s delivery, Colome, Aardsma’s struggles, etc..
I have a feeling I have a different answer to these than you, so to me this is a less than decent team.
CapSea - May 30, 2010
This is really painful for me =(
CapSea - May 30, 2010
Also, one of these days I'd like to break into an "All offense, no defense vs no offense, all defense" discussion.
But at the moment I’m not sure how to write out my thoughts.
CapSea - May 30, 2010
We really did not deserve to win that game.
ThundaPC - May 30, 2010
As fans we did though
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Fuck yeah I did.
Bicycle Rider - May 30, 2010
You guys are solid.
Leopold Bloom - May 30, 2010
Please win the west.
You’re the only other AL West team I can stand, and we’re obviously not going to.
Rowsdower - May 30, 2010
Also, it would be nice to have a team to point to that proves this model can work.
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
I'm really not convinced it can.
One of these days I’ll use a fanpost to illustrate some thoughts on the idea.
CapSea - May 30, 2010
Right, read AC's.
I’m not convinced that our team’s talent could make this work.
CapSea - May 30, 2010
This model can work.
This collection of talent is not good enough to make it work.
Aaron Campeau - May 30, 2010
I still would like to see this team with better on-field management, fewer injuries, and better luck
I really think this team was constructed well
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
This team was constructed where some things had to work out.
Almost none of them have. Plus, we’re terribly unlucky. Thus, we suck.
Kinda makes GMZ’s optimism in the Times a bit, erm, out of place though.
eponymous_coward - May 30, 2010
The back of the rotation
and Lopez’s move to 3B have worked out wonderfully. More than wonderfully. It’s not like everything has gone wrong. You can contribute much of it to bad luck, but the roster just wasn’t constructed to win this division. It’s not GMZ’s fault, of course. Too many constraints.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
Part of the back of the rotation's worked out OK.
The Rangers are 26-23, and I don’t see why a roster like this isn’t capable of contending IF most of it isn’t hitting below the Mendoza line.
eponymous_coward - May 30, 2010
We've had our share of bad luck.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
I'd say that it was constructed well, given the situation (cumulative Bavasi buttfuck to the farm system and major league organization, weak FA class, and apparent budget constraints).
Obviously, there are several players on this roster that you wouldn’t normally expect on a “well-constructed” team, but I have to keep reminding myself that the M’s lost 101 games just a month and a half ago. That we even expect to do well is saying something.
Matt Erickson - May 30, 2010
A month and a half ago?
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
Whoops,
Year and a half ago. I should type and read at the same time.
Matt Erickson - May 30, 2010
How did we lose so many games in mid April
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
I think it was constructed with a great deal of inherent risk.
The risks didn’t work out, or at least haven’t so far. It was probably close to as well put together as it could have been, but the bust potential was there and it appears to have been realized.
Aaron Campeau - May 30, 2010
Yes. I am absolutely rooting for the A's if we can't do it
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Seconded.
I have so much respect for that team, even if I do want to punch a baby whenever we play them.
Matt Erickson - May 30, 2010
Rationally, I feel I shouldn't hate the Rangers.
They’re well-constructed with a shitload of young talent, including some I love, like Andrus. Maybe I just don’t like Michael Young.
And I really love Brett Anderson.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
Meh, they're chair-throwers.
Leopold Bloom - May 30, 2010
:'(
sniffles on shoulder
Matt Erickson - May 30, 2010
So.. uuhhhh.... can you finally make those changes Jack Z?
Because this is utterly pathetic.
TWownsU - May 30, 2010
We did that last year too, kinda.
ThundaPC - May 30, 2010
Tropic of Cairo, here we come!
Do they serve drinks on the beach there?
eponymous_coward - May 30, 2010
Disgusting game absolutely disgusting
I’m glad I didn’t decide to pay money to see this one.
bluemax - May 30, 2010
SEASON OVER
TRADE LEE FOR A TALENTED LITTLE LEAGUER
FIRE AARDSMA INTO THE SUN
FORCE GRIFFEY TO RETIRE AT GUNPOINT
craig3410 - May 30, 2010
1 of those I'd agree with....
WestCoastBias. - May 30, 2010
"FIRE AARDSMA INTO THE SUN"
This phrase pops up ever now and then, but never fails to amuse me.
esoteric - May 30, 2010
Thanks awesome bullpen and your 5 run lead. Except you, Kelley-you're great.
wazzu93 - May 30, 2010
Maybe they should change Kelley's delivery for funsies.
CapSea - May 30, 2010
Such a bullshit inning.
Matt Erickson - May 30, 2010
The only surprising thing was that Torii Hunter didn't hit the walk-off
Nick S - May 30, 2010
Or Kendry Morales, Kirk Gibson style.
MFAN - May 30, 2010
Agree!
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
Thats what I was thinking when I saw him on deck
TheAngelsColts - May 30, 2010
Somehow I forgot that Torii had two i's in his name
What a li’l bitch
Nick S - May 30, 2010
Tori is a girl's name.
Fuckmikereilly - May 30, 2010
I wish sports were more fun.
waldo rojas - May 30, 2010
Losing can be fun
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
This may sound stupid, but I'd be more comfortable with Kelley closing.
SeaKoala - May 30, 2010
Not stupid at all.
But then I’m one of the most anti-Aardsma people you’ll find.
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
I know it's mostly irrational, but I pretty much hate Aardsma at this point.
Jeff Nye - May 30, 2010
I don't think it's irrational at all.
I hate using pitchers like Aardsma in high-leverage situations.
Aaron Campeau - May 30, 2010
I'd be more comfortable with Bobby Ayala closing.
craig3410 - May 30, 2010
I wish I had shut off the TV when I had the chance.
Bicycle Rider - May 30, 2010
I, on the other hand, am feeling quite validated.
Jeff Nye - May 30, 2010
Oh wow. I left and came back. And...this.
Just wow.
esoteric - May 30, 2010
At least there's alcohol and a holiday tomorrow-whee!
wazzu93 - May 30, 2010
3 home runs for the DA on the year, after having 4 all of last year.
Remember when he took offense to any talk of regression?
Janic - May 30, 2010
Disregard women, acquire currency.
.Taylor - May 30, 2010
Wisdom.
Janic - May 30, 2010
I wonder what happens if the umpire is, you know, competent
and calls those two pitches in the Matsui at-bat strikes?
Coach Owens - May 30, 2010
We had our fair share of breaks in this game as well.
Eyeball Kid - May 30, 2010
The umpires helped both of us
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
Then Kendrick homers with 2 outs instead of one.
Matt Erickson - May 30, 2010
Responding to trolls helps absolutely nothing.
Knock it off. You will be disciplined.
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
I'm tired of watching this team.
They are miserable to watch, Wak keeps sending in Colome, and it’s time to blow this train of crap up.
Someone wants Lee? Great, trade him. Get something worth it.
Someone wants Lopez? Gone.
Someone wants Figgins? Bye.
Someone wants RR-S and Snell? Bucket of balls.
Someone wants Fister and Vargas? Buy low, sell high.
Felix, Guti, and Ichiro are staying. Everyone else is on the table, and we’ll take what we can get.
Roscoe’s Carpet Emporium.Roscoe’s Carpet Emporium.
Henry Valz - May 30, 2010
I love carpet
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
Oh what didn't notice the carpet part
Odd
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Yeah trading Figgins seems real likely
Griffin Cooper - May 30, 2010
Umm... this won't solve much.
Unless you plan on getting better pitchers than Vargas, Snell, RRS, and Fister for Figgins and Lopez and better 2nd/3rd basemen than Lopez and Figgins for Vargas, Snell, Fister, and RRS.
Matt Erickson - May 30, 2010
Apparently the Angels are looking for a first baseman. I know where they can get one.
Henry Valz - May 30, 2010
Wow, good thing we got to watch 3.5 hours of baseball
Corco - May 30, 2010
I'm still curious about the Jeff spoke of.
wazzu93 - May 30, 2010
What?
Jeff Sullivan - May 30, 2010
Oops-the bet.
wazzu93 - May 30, 2010
When you put together Aardsma, League, Sean White etc
this bullpen has really blown a lot of games.
ignacio - May 30, 2010
