He’s only trying to make a living and I never fault a person for that. Its not his decision to cut him, if you’re going to hate anybody, hate management. If I were Mike Sweeney, I wouldn’t go anywhere until I was told to.
He seems like a genuinely good guy, I understand why he’d still want to play, and he was an amazing player at one point.
I also absolutely hate that we’re wasting a roster spot on him.
I don’t know how to translate this opinion into one of the options.
It was hard to vote "don't like," because he seems like a pretty swell guy,
but for my criteria, I’ve been taking into account my current feelings whenever I think about the player in question. And until Mike Sweeney goes away, I just don’t like his big dumb face.
He seems like a wonderful guy, both for Milton's stability and for the mental health of everyone in the clubhouse.
And I hope he gets a very specific and limited disease that prevents him from playing baseball from now until September but otherwise causes him no harm.
Very few players I could “hate” as a person. Ummmmmm….maybe Player A? But even then, I’m just following along with you guys. I wasn’t actually around for his shenanigans.
But under my criteria for voting, I really just can’t stand Mike Sweeney.
I wish we could take Griffey and Sweeney and somehow combine them
to build a mediocre but not terrible DH. Griffey has decent plate discipline and is left handed. Sweeney actually can impart velocity to the ball when he hits it. Its too bad that we can’t make a Frankenstein DH out of these two.
I like Mike Sweeney and understand why this team likes having him around.
The big problem is that having him on the team along with Griffey create a bottleneck in flexibility. Not to mention between Griffey and Sweeney our DH production has been off-the-charts horrible.
I don’t like the fact that the team brought Sweeney on based on a super-hot spring. But on the other hand, Sweeney fought his way on the team while Ryan Garko sucked. That’s not Sweeney’s fault.
I think Sweeney still has a little bit left in the tank. This is just the wrong team to showcase that in.
They cancel each other out… I was actually a bit disappointed when it looked like he wouldn’t be around this year – but I was hoping he would be a coach. Then he got the DH slot and.. well… you know.
On one hand, I was sort of dreading the day he’d be cut, but on the other, that didn’t compare to the dawning horror I felt when he started batting .600 in spring training and actually made the roster.
I wish Mike Sweeney was better at baseball. On 710 today he said something along the lines of “If you don’t feel love and compasion for milton bradley when you know who he is, you dont truly have a heart.” Stand up guy, not a good player.
