It annoys me that they benched Saunders for such a long period of time after he was swinging
a very hot bat.
Milton came back, we saw some lefties, Sweeney got hot and we just left Saunders on the bench.
He needs to play every day, or at least 4-5 games a week.
Rudy4three - June 1, 2010
Really, if we're gonna bench Saunders we might as well send him down.
Allen Wu - June 1, 2010
It annoys me that Wak still thinks that he has to run Sweeney out there.
Give those at bats to Saunders, Jr. and Sweeney can just SIT.
TrustBaseball - June 1, 2010
The platoon in my opinion should be between Kotchman and Sweeney.
I want Bradley and Saunders in there daily. Maybe you can give Saunders a break against a tough lefty, but they need to play him in LF most days, with Milton at DH, and some sort of platoon at 1B.
Rudy4three - June 1, 2010
I respectfully disagree. I don't like Sweeney at 1B, ever.
Yes, Sweeney might be better than Kotchman in a platoon situation, but Kotchman’s defense makes the difference for me.
TrustBaseball - June 1, 2010
Yeah, I don't like Sweeney ever using his mitt. However, maybe if you have a stretch of games
where you are seeing two lefties a week, you put Sweeney out there for one game, and let him DH another. I don’t like that Saunders is being completely kept away from left handed pitching. That doesn’t do much for his development.
Rudy4three - June 1, 2010
I'm going to partially agree here, I don't ever want to see Sweeney with a mitt.
Saunders will only learn to hit LHP by hitting LHP, whether it’s once or twice a week.
TrustBaseball - June 1, 2010
As much as you don't like Sweeney with a mitt.
I do not like Kotchman with a bat. .267 wOBA wastes everything he does with his glove and then some.
Ballard Erik - June 2, 2010
Kotchman is not as bad as his wOBA
Jeff Sullivan - June 2, 2010
Is a Sweeny for Kotchman pinch hit an option?
Where you just let Sweeny play 1B afterwards? Or would this require too much thought on Wak’s part
d0nkey - June 2, 2010
Saunders is looking awfully lost at the plate again.
This is a result of lack of playing time… I hope.
Mariner Melee - June 1, 2010
I share this hope.
ignacio - June 1, 2010
We are getting better
A few games don’t mean much, but at least the Mariners have been scoring runs. I haven’t had the gripping fear we wouldn’t score at all for a few series now. Progress!
E2ESQUARE - June 1, 2010
Yay this was fun. I vote for more of this.
TheBishop - June 1, 2010
I second this.
TrustBaseball - June 1, 2010
Milton Bradley: "Guns N Roses"
Garrett Olson: “Norah Jones”
WOW.
Maury Povich - June 1, 2010
Could be worse.
Boz86 - June 1, 2010
...I kinda like Norah Jones
JAH - June 2, 2010
Norah Jones is hot though
I Lick Squirrels - June 2, 2010
Garrett Olson: "Hee hee~!"
Win. Pure win.
Allen Wu - June 1, 2010
There is no substitute for victory.
RustyJohn - June 1, 2010
Playoffs!
Robert - June 1, 2010
Based on one inning of evidence
Garrett Olsen is better than both Jesus Colome and Kanekoa Teixera.
Slow Country - June 1, 2010
Colome - easily
Texeira – time will tell
Griffin Cooper - June 1, 2010
Eh, Young hit a ball pretty damn hard
Rudy4three - June 1, 2010
Given the subject line
I’m not sure this was a serious post that you responded to
Matthew - June 1, 2010
No it definitely wasn't
Oh well
Griffin Cooper - June 1, 2010
I missed where Milton was tonight?
Just a night off, I hope?
doublemazaa - June 1, 2010
There's a bad Aurora Bridge joke here
and it’s waiting to be made, but I do not wish to make it, nor do I support such a joke.
I <3 Milton.
Two Rs and Two Ls - June 1, 2010
I heard they were installing fences on the bridge.
Milton’s safe here.
doublemazaa - June 1, 2010
Yep
Jeff Sullivan - June 1, 2010
Alfonzo is a great interview
wyte_lightning - June 1, 2010
Josh Wilson is almost a 1 WAR player and it's June 1st.
This is amazing to me.
And yes, I know it’s a small sample size.
Rudy4three - June 1, 2010
I don't think sample size really matters with regard to cumulative stats like WAR
It doesn’t matter why he’s been worth that much or whether he’ll keep it up. He just has been.
Matt Erickson - June 1, 2010
Yeah, but if he starts sucking and goes back to the player his track record suggests
he’ll start costing the team, correct? For example if he goes 0-30 and his defense goes back to normal, he’s going to be back at replacement level, right?
Just because he has been .8 wins over replacement, doesn’t mean he’s going to keep that .8
Rudy4three - June 1, 2010
If he "goes back" to replacement level, he will have been worth 0.8 WAR for the season.
To lose that, he’d have to show negative value to the tune of ~1 WUR (win under replacement; yes, I made it up).
harkening - June 1, 2010
Gotcha. I'm just not convinced that he doesn't have a stretch of -1.0 in him if he
plays a full season, thus bringing him back to career norms. However, maybe he’s improved enough in all areas that he can keep up some semblance of league average defense, and not drop off too much from where he is now with the bat.
That would be very nice.
Rudy4three - June 1, 2010
It's like he's gotten just a little better at everything
and that’s made him a useful player to have around.
Jeff Sullivan - June 1, 2010
It is amazing. At some point when Jack decides he can't come back because of injury
the “other” wilson will get his name capitalized. Josh is not anywhere near Jack defensively, but maybe he deserves to have the first letter of his last name in capital letters. He’s not rob johnson.
TrustBaseball - June 1, 2010
In fact, maybe we should just write ob ohnson.
He is so bad,he doesn’t just get penalized by no capitilization, he gets the first letters removed. Or just write his name in wing dings.
Ballard Erik - June 2, 2010
Just out of curiosity, what's the deal with the two open roster spots?
Any speculation on why they are still open and who might fill them?
RustyJohn - June 1, 2010
Let's engage in wild speculation over signing an upcoming draft pick to a major league contract.
JY - June 1, 2010
Or Cliff Lee to the Yankees for Nick Swisher and Cervelli?
RustyJohn - June 1, 2010
I hope that was a joke.
IF we trade Lee it would be to a national league team. We still are not far from contending right now so we can’t trade him to an AL contender, an NL team would work. Possibly the Brewers? Prince Fielder might be available after all and Jack does know their system intimately. San Diego is for Adrian Gonzalez is out since they don’t need pitching.
Nobody Anonymous - June 1, 2010
If we're contending, we're not trading Lee.
Jackle Mackle - June 2, 2010
Huh.
Slurvey - June 2, 2010
7 back of the division and 11.5 back of the wildcard is pretty far from contending.
Goose - June 2, 2010
You're forgetting the Griffey factor.
Obviously he’s going to get injured and the M’s will REFUSE TO LOSE!!!
Slurvey - June 2, 2010
I'm sure the team doesn't care what league they trade him to since we'll likely be out of it and Lee's on a 1-year deal.
If the Rangers gave us the best package, I bet we’d send him there.
SethGrandpa - June 2, 2010
Hopefully such a "best" package would ONLY be considered such if it included Justin Smoak
Matt Erickson - June 2, 2010
Joking in that there is no way Brain Cashman would give up that package for half a season+ of Cliff Lee, yes.
Would that be the most awesome trade imaginable? Hell, yes. A first baseman/outfielder and starting catcher for a 1/2 season rental. Oh well, I can live in fantasy land for a little bit.
RustyJohn - June 2, 2010
The Rainiers beat John Halama today.
JY - June 1, 2010
Blast from the past
2001 and forever
E2ESQUARE - June 1, 2010

TEXEIRA PUNS ARE DEAD NOW
Jeff Sullivan - June 2, 2010
