I don't know what's worse
How bad Aardsma has sucked, or the fact that there is literally no one in the bullpen who could probably do any better.
Kouvre - June 11, 2010
We're 23-38 WITH Cliff Lee
This does not bode well
killer_ewok18 - June 11, 2010
We are actually worse than this with Cliff Lee
12-26 since his first start.
tait644 - June 11, 2010
I think some people are lying about being at the Tropic of Cairo.
ThundaPC - June 11, 2010
Seriously
Poor guys
Jeff Sullivan - June 11, 2010
It takes an uncomfortably long amount of time for me to reach the ToC
I didn’t reach it in 2004 until Freddy Garcia was traded.
Kouvre - June 11, 2010
Apparently I have yet to reach it. I can still feel pain. I'm like a Trent Reznor song.
JAH - June 11, 2010
Dark, depressing, and completely fucked up?
Mariner Melee - June 11, 2010
Trent Reznor is a phony.
ignacio - June 11, 2010
Trent Reznor is an asshole.
No judgments on his music or those who like it, but some people I work with have been douched all over by that guy.
Jon S. - June 11, 2010
After going seeing some old friends, I got home at about 7:45 or so. My instinct was to turn on the Mariners game, like I usually do.
Instead, I’m watching Ponyo and Veer Zaara. And holy fuck was that a better decision than watching the Mariners.
Decatur - June 11, 2010
Strasburg pitches this weekend!
esoteric - June 11, 2010
I love Ponyo.
Mariner Melee - June 11, 2010
Been there for weeks!
esoteric - June 11, 2010
I read this as "Beer for weeks!"
Guess I know what I need.
Mariner Melee - June 11, 2010
I thought I was there
But these assholes are screwing with me.
Drew_D - June 11, 2010
C'mon, it's fun now. It has to be.
esoteric - June 11, 2010
Let me check.
Nope. Still bad.
Drew_D - June 11, 2010
You're doing it wrong.
esoteric - June 11, 2010
I'm honestly not there and I can't figure out why. I want to be there. I want to not give a shit.
I still get sucked in.
abender20 - June 11, 2010
Impressive
I admit I got excited when Bradley went deep and then kind of stared at the TV after it was over, but I’m not actually mad that we lost.
Jeff Sullivan - June 11, 2010
I didn't come around to rooting for them to lose until the Oakland series in 2008
Aaron Campeau - June 11, 2010
Think there's a difference between rooting for them to lose, and not caring what they do
Jeff Sullivan - June 11, 2010
I don't root for them to lose; I do prefer, however, that if they are going to lose then they make it spectacular, like tonight.
esoteric - June 11, 2010
I missed an opportunity to do like The Most Interesting Man In The World
“I don’t often root for the Mariners to lose, but when I do I prefer they lose spectacularly.”
esoteric - June 11, 2010
Yeah that would have been a real shame
Aaron Campeau - June 11, 2010
You were only rooting for them to loose short term.
Because well, we all saw it, you wouldn’t be losing a lot with Strasburg on the mound.
Mariner Melee - June 11, 2010
I don't think I'll actively root for losses
Even the whole “Race for the Strasburg” thing never really did it for me. At least this one had enough of an air of inevitability that it didn’t hurt like those Angels losses.
Drew_D - June 11, 2010
Do we even know who the number one pick is going to be next year?
For the past 2 years its been a no brainer since April the year prior.
Mariner Melee - June 11, 2010
Bwahahahahahahahahahaha
esoteric - June 11, 2010
Rendon?
Purke?
Mariner Melee - June 11, 2010
For some reason, I can't find the article.
But yeah, Rendon. I wouldn’t worry about it too much though, we’re not getting him.
Hopefulmsfan - June 11, 2010
I would imagine not.
Mariner Melee - June 11, 2010
We can't do anything right.
Hopefulmsfan - June 11, 2010
It would certainly seem that way.
Mariner Melee - June 11, 2010
Not with that attitude.
FairWeatherFred - June 11, 2010
Mariners baseball motherfuckers.
the other side - June 11, 2010
Believe big.
thehemogoblin - June 12, 2010
I'm just laughing in my capacity as a Nationals fan.
Strasburg keeps me happy and sane the same way he must frustrate a lot of other M’s fans around here.
esoteric - June 12, 2010
Yeah
Poochie - June 12, 2010
They let us down again
Poochie - June 12, 2010
I started yelling and clapping when Milton hit the homer, and some guy turned around and started berating me.
Easily the most active Padres fan I’ve ever seen. It was wonderful!
Teej - June 11, 2010
There's some season ticket holder out in the first row in left field who has a lot of opinions
Jeff Sullivan - June 11, 2010
This season ha gone from unfortunate to bad to sad to hilarious way too quickly.
lailaihei - June 11, 2010 via mobile
Should League close now instead of Aardsma?
ignacio - June 11, 2010
Who cares at this point. What is rotten is that "the DA" is killing his trade value.
Rudy4three - June 11, 2010
I guess that's the salient point.
ignacio - June 11, 2010
If "salient" is the right word. It sounded good.
ignacio - June 11, 2010
Too bad teams don't evaluate using xFIP.
He’s regressed is HR/FB rate (god, ‘cause no one predicted that shit, right?). Yet his walks are down and his K’s are up.
Year: FIP | xFIP | HR/FB
2009: 3.01 | 4.12 | 4.2%
2010: 4.37 | 4.04 | 12.5%*
*does not include tonight’s game
12 saves in 16 opportunities, 12 “shutdowns” to 5 “meltdowns”. I mean, really, the DA isn’t doing that bad.
harkening - June 11, 2010
And to be fair.
That one against the Angels was terrible luck. Two missed strike calls on Matsui and the ball coming out of his glove on a would-be game ending DP.
Hopefulmsfan - June 11, 2010
What do they evaluate with, ERA?
Boz86 - June 12, 2010
David Aardsma makes me wish for Bobby Ayala
romdal - June 11, 2010
David Aardsma makes my heart yearn for Emiliano Fruto.
qrsouther - June 11, 2010
No
Drew_D - June 11, 2010
2009 was Bobby Ayala's 1994.
Okay not really. But Ayala does get a bad rap, I mean, he sucked, but still, he wasn’t the only one.
FairWeatherFred - June 11, 2010
Also, David Aardsma isn't any worse this year than last.
Regression happens.
harkening - June 11, 2010
Am i missing something,
or has Josh gotten capitals?
el pato - June 11, 2010
He started a few days ago
He earned them
Jeff Sullivan - June 11, 2010
It's like Clarence earning his wings.
esoteric - June 11, 2010
Except in this version George Bailey still committed suicide.
esoteric - June 11, 2010
But only because he was a Mariners fan
OceanBird - June 11, 2010
Yes he has.
el pato - June 11, 2010
It's a shame that Josh isn't younger.
Or else I could see this as not being a fluke.
Coach Owens - June 11, 2010
So does anyone even really care if the other Wilson comes back?
Mariner Melee - June 11, 2010
Couldn't care less.
Rudy4three - June 11, 2010
I feel sorry for Aardsma.
Compared to last year:
LD% is down (20.8% vs. 18.0%)
GB% is up (34.0% vs. 25.3%)
BABIP is about the same (.268 vs. .271)
K/BB is up a tad (2.57 vs. 2.35), although his K/9 rate is down (8.53 vs. 10.09)
He’s basically getting killed by the following:
HR/FB skyrocketed obviously. (12.5% vs. 4.2%)
LOB% plummeted (63.8% vs. 77.5%)
Seems like his results went from one extreme to the other even though he’s basically been the same pitcher as last year? We’re not able to measure someone’s heart in the game so I hope that’s doing alright!
ThundaPC - June 11, 2010
The K rate decline is pretty upsetting.
When you’re a flyball pitcher, the less people make contact, the better.
Jon S. - June 11, 2010
SSS you big jerk
Jon S. - June 11, 2010
Oops, yeah.
Jason Motte’s K/9 went up by two today, so a couple dominant performances by DA could put his K/9 back where it should be.
Jon S. - June 11, 2010
What the hell people, this is awesome.
1 loss closer to the #1 draft pick!
the other side - June 11, 2010
I would normally agree.
But I’m also invested in David Aardsma performing well, as a D.A. with lots of saves and a shiny ERA is worth more to 29 other teams than the Aarsdma we’ve seen of late.
katal - June 11, 2010
Ooh yeah, I guess that is shitty for us.
the other side - June 11, 2010
No, it's not.
It’s fucking annoying and I’m tired of people telling me I should think it’s hilarious. I get that it’s hilarious to other people and I don’t hold it against them, but it’s in no way hilarious to me.
Aaron Campeau - June 11, 2010
I don't think the people who tell you it's awesome actually think it's awesome
I think they’re just looking for something to say.
Jeff Sullivan - June 11, 2010
I only chuckle because it dulls my pain.
Mariner Melee - June 11, 2010
It's terribly, terribly depressing. :(
Mariner John - June 11, 2010
I didn't say it was hilarious.
I just think since we aren’t going to be good we might as well get some nice prospects out of it.
the other side - June 11, 2010
I think its a matter for some people that if they don't laugh they cry.
JAH - June 11, 2010
I laugh so hard I end up crying anyway.
Because fuck this team.
harkening - June 11, 2010
I will never find it to be funny
Although I’m kind of indifferent at this point
Griffin Cooper - June 12, 2010
We aren't going to catch Baltimore, so it's not even worth focusing on in my opinion.
Just know we’re probably going to add a really good college pitcher next year and don’t waste your time watching the standings to see how bad we are.
Rudy4three - June 11, 2010
I don't know,
Baltimore has some good young players it will probably call up here pretty soon, while the M’s don’t. Also, Cliff Lee is not long for Seattle, so that makes us even worse of a team. It could be close.
killer_ewok18 - June 12, 2010
At least Adrian Beltre is murdering Red Sox outfielders
Or so Jeff tells me. I like to think it’s on purpose.
Drew_D - June 11, 2010
Cammy. :(
harkening - June 11, 2010
Nope!
Hermida and Ellsbury.
Jeff Sullivan - June 11, 2010
Beltre broke Hermida's ribs!
Mariner Melee - June 11, 2010
This would be the joke.
harkening - June 11, 2010
Sad.
Mariner Melee - June 11, 2010
You've been on LL longer than I have.
From what I’ve gathered in the last several months, this is what we do around here.
harkening - June 11, 2010
Beltre is probably injured too, he plays through the pain because he's a crazy son of a bitch.
Slurvey - June 11, 2010
2010 Season In Review (again):
Crystal for DH - June 11, 2010
I'm starting to worry we might not take the west this year.
waldo rojas - June 11, 2010
Fifth place!
harkening - June 11, 2010
ALWAYS REMEMBER 1995
Crystal for DH - June 11, 2010
Good thing there's the Wild Card then.
Hopefulmsfan - June 11, 2010
Yankees/Rays are gonna be tough to catch.
waldo rojas - June 11, 2010
Good thing we only need to catch one of them.
Hopefulmsfan - June 11, 2010
Disturbing picture o_O
