I don't know what's worse

How bad Aardsma has sucked, or the fact that there is literally no one in the bullpen who could probably do any better.

We're 23-38 WITH Cliff Lee

This does not bode well

We are actually worse than this with Cliff Lee

12-26 since his first start.

I think some people are lying about being at the Tropic of Cairo.
Seriously

Poor guys

It takes an uncomfortably long amount of time for me to reach the ToC

I didn’t reach it in 2004 until Freddy Garcia was traded.

Apparently I have yet to reach it. I can still feel pain. I'm like a Trent Reznor song.
Dark, depressing, and completely fucked up?
Trent Reznor is a phony.
Trent Reznor is an asshole.

No judgments on his music or those who like it, but some people I work with have been douched all over by that guy.

After going seeing some old friends, I got home at about 7:45 or so. My instinct was to turn on the Mariners game, like I usually do.

Instead, I’m watching Ponyo and Veer Zaara. And holy fuck was that a better decision than watching the Mariners.

Strasburg pitches this weekend!
Been there for weeks!
I read this as "Beer for weeks!"

Guess I know what I need.

I thought I was there

But these assholes are screwing with me.

C'mon, it's fun now. It has to be.
Let me check.

Nope. Still bad.

You're doing it wrong.
I'm honestly not there and I can't figure out why. I want to be there. I want to not give a shit.

I still get sucked in.

Impressive

I admit I got excited when Bradley went deep and then kind of stared at the TV after it was over, but I’m not actually mad that we lost.

I didn't come around to rooting for them to lose until the Oakland series in 2008
Think there's a difference between rooting for them to lose, and not caring what they do
I don't root for them to lose; I do prefer, however, that if they are going to lose then they make it spectacular, like tonight.
I missed an opportunity to do like The Most Interesting Man In The World

“I don’t often root for the Mariners to lose, but when I do I prefer they lose spectacularly.”

Yeah that would have been a real shame
You were only rooting for them to loose short term.

Because well, we all saw it, you wouldn’t be losing a lot with Strasburg on the mound.

I don't think I'll actively root for losses

Even the whole “Race for the Strasburg” thing never really did it for me. At least this one had enough of an air of inevitability that it didn’t hurt like those Angels losses.

Do we even know who the number one pick is going to be next year?

For the past 2 years its been a no brainer since April the year prior.

Bwahahahahahahahahahaha
Rendon?

Purke?

For some reason, I can't find the article.

But yeah, Rendon. I wouldn’t worry about it too much though, we’re not getting him.

I would imagine not.
We can't do anything right.
It would certainly seem that way.
Not with that attitude.
Mariners baseball motherfuckers.
I'm just laughing in my capacity as a Nationals fan.

Strasburg keeps me happy and sane the same way he must frustrate a lot of other M’s fans around here.

Yeah
They let us down again
I started yelling and clapping when Milton hit the homer, and some guy turned around and started berating me.

Easily the most active Padres fan I’ve ever seen. It was wonderful!

There's some season ticket holder out in the first row in left field who has a lot of opinions
This season ha gone from unfortunate to bad to sad to hilarious way too quickly.
Should League close now instead of Aardsma?
Who cares at this point. What is rotten is that "the DA" is killing his trade value.
I guess that's the salient point.
If "salient" is the right word. It sounded good.
Too bad teams don't evaluate using xFIP.

He’s regressed is HR/FB rate (god, ‘cause no one predicted that shit, right?). Yet his walks are down and his K’s are up.

Year: FIP | xFIP | HR/FB
2009: 3.01 | 4.12 | 4.2%
2010: 4.37 | 4.04 | 12.5%*

*does not include tonight’s game

12 saves in 16 opportunities, 12 “shutdowns” to 5 “meltdowns”. I mean, really, the DA isn’t doing that bad.

And to be fair.

That one against the Angels was terrible luck. Two missed strike calls on Matsui and the ball coming out of his glove on a would-be game ending DP.

What do they evaluate with, ERA?
David Aardsma makes me wish for Bobby Ayala
David Aardsma makes my heart yearn for Emiliano Fruto.
2009 was Bobby Ayala's 1994.

Okay not really. But Ayala does get a bad rap, I mean, he sucked, but still, he wasn’t the only one.

Also, David Aardsma isn't any worse this year than last.

Regression happens.

Am i missing something,

or has Josh gotten capitals?

He started a few days ago

He earned them

It's like Clarence earning his wings.
Except in this version George Bailey still committed suicide.
But only because he was a Mariners fan
It's a shame that Josh isn't younger.

Or else I could see this as not being a fluke.

So does anyone even really care if the other Wilson comes back?
Couldn't care less.
I feel sorry for Aardsma.

Compared to last year:

LD% is down (20.8% vs. 18.0%)
GB% is up (34.0% vs. 25.3%)
BABIP is about the same (.268 vs. .271)
K/BB is up a tad (2.57 vs. 2.35), although his K/9 rate is down (8.53 vs. 10.09)

He’s basically getting killed by the following:

HR/FB skyrocketed obviously. (12.5% vs. 4.2%)
LOB% plummeted (63.8% vs. 77.5%)

Seems like his results went from one extreme to the other even though he’s basically been the same pitcher as last year? We’re not able to measure someone’s heart in the game so I hope that’s doing alright!

The K rate decline is pretty upsetting.

When you’re a flyball pitcher, the less people make contact, the better.

SSS you big jerk
Oops, yeah.

Jason Motte’s K/9 went up by two today, so a couple dominant performances by DA could put his K/9 back where it should be.

What the hell people, this is awesome.

1 loss closer to the #1 draft pick!

I would normally agree.

But I’m also invested in David Aardsma performing well, as a D.A. with lots of saves and a shiny ERA is worth more to 29 other teams than the Aarsdma we’ve seen of late.

Ooh yeah, I guess that is shitty for us.
No, it's not.

It’s fucking annoying and I’m tired of people telling me I should think it’s hilarious. I get that it’s hilarious to other people and I don’t hold it against them, but it’s in no way hilarious to me.

I don't think the people who tell you it's awesome actually think it's awesome

I think they’re just looking for something to say.

I only chuckle because it dulls my pain.
It's terribly, terribly depressing. :(
I didn't say it was hilarious.

I just think since we aren’t going to be good we might as well get some nice prospects out of it.

I think its a matter for some people that if they don't laugh they cry.
I laugh so hard I end up crying anyway.

Because fuck this team.

I will never find it to be funny

Although I’m kind of indifferent at this point

We aren't going to catch Baltimore, so it's not even worth focusing on in my opinion.

Just know we’re probably going to add a really good college pitcher next year and don’t waste your time watching the standings to see how bad we are.

I don't know,

Baltimore has some good young players it will probably call up here pretty soon, while the M’s don’t. Also, Cliff Lee is not long for Seattle, so that makes us even worse of a team. It could be close.

At least Adrian Beltre is murdering Red Sox outfielders

Or so Jeff tells me. I like to think it’s on purpose.

Cammy. :(
Nope!

Hermida and Ellsbury.

Beltre broke Hermida's ribs!
This would be the joke.
Sad.
You've been on LL longer than I have.

From what I’ve gathered in the last several months, this is what we do around here.

Beltre is probably injured too, he plays through the pain because he's a crazy son of a bitch.
2010 Season In Review (again):

I'm starting to worry we might not take the west this year.
ALWAYS REMEMBER 1995
Good thing there's the Wild Card then.
Yankees/Rays are gonna be tough to catch.
Good thing we only need to catch one of them.
Disturbing picture o_O
