FUCK REPLAY
Teej - June 2, 2010
Brandon League vultures another win!
killer_ewok18 - June 2, 2010
Win vulture means he came in and allowed the game to be tied but then the offense still manage to bail him out.
Slurvey - June 2, 2010
My bad
Still it’s funny that he has 10 decisions already.
killer_ewok18 - June 2, 2010
WPA is kind of broken if Ichiro can strike out three times and still end up leading the team by a fair margin.
But… WOO!
thehemogoblin - June 2, 2010
No it isn't
You’re just using it badly
Graham MacAree - June 2, 2010
Okay, cool.
It makes sense. It just seems weird to me, I guess. It’s counterintuitive to my regular baseball logic.
thehemogoblin - June 2, 2010
A tool can't be broken unless it's used improperly
JLC - June 2, 2010
He got a run at a time when it was most important that we have runs
If that makes any sense.
Slow Country - June 2, 2010
So was the RJ PB the most damaging play of the game?
the other side - June 2, 2010
No
The Cuddyer home run was.
Jeff Sullivan - June 2, 2010
Ah yes, of course.
I’m blaming that on Rob’s pitch selection. Fuck you Rob.
the other side - June 2, 2010
Does Rob Johnson
have the Mariner record for most suckfests all time?
Slow Country - June 2, 2010
If he doesn't, he should.
TrustBaseball - June 2, 2010
Jeff would have to build WPA database out of play-by-play logs for the last 33 years...
Rob Johnson may not have most suckfests, but I don’t care. I want to burn him.
harkening - June 2, 2010
Doubtful.
But only because of only being here a couple years.
SethGrandpa - June 2, 2010
I love quotation marks.
PDXTai - June 2, 2010
So is Scruffy saved or forever doomed.
He’s the last one doing the challenge right?
the other side - June 2, 2010
It's voided, he retired
Griffin Cooper - June 2, 2010
It is voided.
We made sure of that loophole when we made the challenge.
Kirk - June 3, 2010
We need GIFs!! Ones of players jumping, crying, arguing, etc..
Rudy4three - June 2, 2010
I'd like a gif showing all of Rob Johnson's passed balls.
RustyJohn - June 2, 2010
That would take a long time to load.
harkening - June 2, 2010
I don't think any of us has enough bandwidth to watch that.
BrianL - June 2, 2010
It would be longer than extended edition of Lord of the Rings.
JAH - June 2, 2010
Except one is enjoyable to watch.
That had to be Peter Jackson’s wet dream, then he found out they would let him do it.
the other side - June 2, 2010
I think 12 hours of Rob Johnson
passed balls is a little bit like what hell must be like.
Slow Country - June 2, 2010
This was straight a Milton Bradley victory tonight.
Guy willed the first run. Lee was dominate of course, but Milton was just incredible to watch this evening.
katal - June 2, 2010
He is a Noble Beast.
Slow Country - June 2, 2010
Z on the post game!
the other side - June 2, 2010
I didn't watch the ending,
but my friend texted me and informed me that we were the beneficiaries of an anti-Jim Joyce call.
Fearless Frog - June 2, 2010
So hey we took the series from the Twins.
Awesome!
BrianL - June 2, 2010
It's a four game set
Graham MacAree - June 2, 2010
It is?
Damn.
BrianL - June 2, 2010
So hey we didn't lose the series to the Twins!
BrianL - June 2, 2010
4 games.
They can still tie.
the other side - June 2, 2010
But thanks for jinxing it!
the other side - June 2, 2010
Here is hoping Felix does not lose to Carl Pavano.
RustyJohn - June 2, 2010
It's June now, we should get the unhittable Felix back.
the other side - June 2, 2010
Some Haitian needs to put a voodoo hex on Rob Johnson that makes him pass one kidney stone for every passed ball.
RustyJohn - June 2, 2010
He'd be out for a couple seasons.
Ah…I now see the genius of your plan.
harkening - June 2, 2010
He'd be dead.
E-Lizz - June 2, 2010
This plan is seeming better with each passing moment!
harkening - June 2, 2010
Reminded me of this.
Damn.
the other side - June 2, 2010
Dear Lord- don't know which is worse- that or Beltre's teste injury.
RustyJohn - June 2, 2010
That's incredible. The pain both of them went through, during the game, is incredible.
Incredible is the wrong word, but I don’t quite know what to say.
TrustBaseball - June 2, 2010
Seeing Ichiro jump for joy warms my heart.
E-Lizz - June 2, 2010
Early in the game, after Milton's single through the right side...
they had a brief shot of Ichiro in the dugout. He’s usually so chill, passive. But I swear the expression on his face was like a lost child. He was sitting alone again—not with other players, like he did with Junior—and he just sort of glanced around. It was really sad to see.
Small sample size? One shot of him in the dugout? Yes. But still.
harkening - June 2, 2010
Can't forget the three K's
Ichiro is taking this hard, even though he won’t outwardly express it like Milton did. I think Junior in the end will be Ichi’s most closest friend in baseball. I hope they remain friends even while Griffey is retired and back in Florida.
E-Lizz - June 2, 2010
I hope they have a reunion like Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins had at the end of Shawshank Redemption.
RustyJohn - June 2, 2010
Hilarious.
E-Lizz - June 2, 2010
Not the movie, the post.
E-Lizz - June 2, 2010
Have you seen the YouTube clip of them meeting for the first time, when Ichiro was a rookie in Japan and Griffey was still God?
Also, when Junior was here as a Red in 2008…Ichiro’s always idolized Griffey. He was legitimately in awe of being around him. It was a lot of fun to watch. I don’t think that relationship is going away.
harkening - June 2, 2010
Yeah I did see that video
Its crazy to think Ichiro had no idea he’d one day be a teammate of Griffey’s. I’m glad baseball brought Griffey back to Seattle not just because he’s a franchise icon, but because of what he did for Ichi.
E-Lizz - June 2, 2010
Bahahahaha yes.
Griffey gives him a game-used jersey and he sniffs it. Classic.
the other side - June 2, 2010
Is that the one where they go out for dinner at Benihana's or Steak and Ale or something?
RustyJohn - June 2, 2010
Yep.
That’s the one.
harkening - June 2, 2010
We need Junior to retire every day
seattlebruin - June 3, 2010
I thought his eyes looked red as well when he was batting.
joey90 - June 2, 2010
I couldn't watch the whole game, and I'm fucking exhausted right now.
But I have it recorded. I’ll probably go back and watch it. I heard Blowers and Sims talking about Milton crying in the 2nd. I know it has to be an emotional night. That plus the victory…it seems a game worth watching.
harkening - June 2, 2010
Felix going tomorrow. This has the potential to be a fucking fantastic series.
Griffin Cooper - June 2, 2010
Too bad nothing interesting happened today
lemonverbena - June 2, 2010
Yea, it's a dull day for baseball.
perfectstrat - June 2, 2010
Couldn't we get like a roster move or anything?
the other side - June 2, 2010
By the way, are they shooting for a 35 man roster or something- they still have two spots on the 40 open when they dfa'd Colome and Tex, now Griffey.
RustyJohn - June 2, 2010
I'm holding my breath for some Z magic.
Better get that dome shiner out Jack.
the other side - June 2, 2010
Perfect day
Two major ump fuckups, Griffeys fat ass retires, and the M’s win.
OlSalty - June 2, 2010
+ Gonzalez walkoff slam for the Padres
lemonverbena - June 2, 2010
And no broken ankle.
E-Lizz - June 2, 2010
Looks like the gang low-five is the new default walkoff celebration
lemonverbena - June 2, 2010
Whooptywhoop!
Jeff Sullivan - June 2, 2010
Are the Padres the official NL bandwagon team of LL?
bamfor - June 2, 2010
Based on the recent poll, no
Jeff Sullivan - June 2, 2010
Wha?
This is a democracy!?
harkening - June 2, 2010
Rays, wasn't it?
The Rays aren’t really a bandwagon anymore though.
the other side - June 2, 2010
Rays aren't an NL team.
harkening - June 2, 2010
Giants
Griffin Cooper - June 2, 2010
That was just you.
Nice try though.
the other side - June 2, 2010
Although they have that Madison guy right?
the other side - June 2, 2010
I voted for the Reds. Giants had the most votes of NL teams
Griffin Cooper - June 2, 2010
Reds? I'm just rooting for them because they aren't St. Louis.
RustyJohn - June 2, 2010
San Diego is a terrible franchise and city
Matt Kemp will ruin their dreams.
bluemax - June 2, 2010
Grrrr
lemonverbena - June 2, 2010
San Diego is like Los Angeles except better in every conceivable way
seattlebruin - June 3, 2010
I hope Bradley and Ichiro become best friends.
Fuckmikereilly - June 2, 2010
This seems likely, as Griffey would be the glue.
TrustBaseball - June 2, 2010
Their friendship would consist of talking about Griffey all the time.
E-Lizz - June 2, 2010
They could form a "We Heart Griffey" club.
Fuckmikereilly - June 2, 2010
They need a cool nickname, like Griffhards.
the other side - June 2, 2010
That sounds like gay porn.
RustyJohn - June 2, 2010
One mans fan club...
the other side - June 2, 2010
Milton will have to take Griff's part in the Griffey/Sweeney/Ichi texting.
msb - June 2, 2010
Thanks for the idea to incorporate in, msb
seattle_since_81 - June 2, 2010
But Sweeney's the president
EequalsMc2 - June 2, 2010
Griffey's Army
Mariner John - June 2, 2010
This would work perfectly.
As they both need someone like Griffey, and there’s no one like Griffey to cement the deal.
TrustBaseball - June 2, 2010
Griffey's retirement + today's game has brought my back from the Tropic of Cairo
I Lick Squirrels - June 2, 2010
Welcome back.
We are 1.000 in June!!!
the other side - June 2, 2010
Live to Win!
Live to Die!
Slow Country - June 2, 2010
Pretty good SI article about Griffey
here. I put this in fanshots too.
Slow Country - June 2, 2010
Holy cow
Is that Beltre in a mariner uniform on tv?
LeftArrow2 - June 2, 2010
So who is taking Junior's spot? Nelson?
houseofprime - June 2, 2010
While in the booth during the game, Z said they'd like to add another arm to the pen.
GOD!
harkening - June 2, 2010
Although if they pull Texeira off waivers, I'm a little more okay with this.
harkening - June 2, 2010
Well that's AIDS.
SethGrandpa - June 2, 2010
He could have meant a replacement arm.
He could also have been blowing smoke.
msb - June 2, 2010
Last nine starts, in innings:
7.0, 7.0, 5.0, 8.0, 8.0, 4.0, 7.2, 7.0, 8.0
We could go with a five man pen
Matthew - June 2, 2010
And a four man rotation!
DrunkAmerican - June 2, 2010
But five aces sounds so much better.
Janic - June 3, 2010
Well
JonBBT - June 2, 2010
To be fair, that glove is obviously still open.
And shielded like that, the ball could very well be hitting the ground. Not nearly as bad as the Joyce call.
harkening - June 2, 2010
Not at all. I'm just happy it led to this ammusing body shake:
JonBBT - June 2, 2010
Oh my.
E-Lizz - June 2, 2010
.
lemonverbena - June 2, 2010
Bahahahahaha how have I never seen this.
the other side - June 2, 2010
Still love this picture
Griffin Cooper - June 2, 2010
Who is that?
I can’t tell.
craig3410 - June 2, 2010
Tinsley.
JonBBT - June 2, 2010
1B Coach Lee Tinsley.
harkening - June 2, 2010
Griffey carrying Ichiro off the field is just priceless.
Janic - June 2, 2010
Although, he kind of looks like a big baby in that picture.
Janic - June 2, 2010
I thought the ball was on the ground, laying there, not fully grasped yet by the glove
ignacio - June 2, 2010
Yeah, look at it from the other angle.
The ball is hitting the ground before going into Hardy’s mitt, that gives another half a second for Wilson’s hand to make it. It is a lot closer than we think.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 2, 2010
Blue owed us
lemonverbena - June 2, 2010
Bad call
But a tough call from that angle. Joyce’s was blatant.
E-Lizz - June 2, 2010
And he knows it. =/
The audio clip is kind of awkward.
harkening - June 2, 2010
Thank you, Mr. Griffey. You saved baseball in Seattle.
I personally lived for your call-up as the M’s were hopeless until you got here. I remember listening to your first game as a Mariner. I was soaking my feet in a child’s wading pool in my driveway. You were the best thing since sliced bread. My thank you today is for your retirement. You’ve done your part and it was time to leave. I love you # 24. I wish you the best in your retirement and I’ll be present for your HOF entry. Thank you for saving baseball in the pacific northwest and giving us a place to watch it..
TrustBaseball - June 2, 2010
Criff and I would have lovely children.
melenious - June 2, 2010
You might be older than his wife.
harkening - June 2, 2010
Nope. I'm only 23!
A girl can dream.
melenious - June 2, 2010
...I actually knew you were early 20's.
His wife just looks like a teen mother.
harkening - June 2, 2010
If I remember correctly, they met when they were both in the 7th grade...
so unless she was an infant prodigy, they’re the same age.
msb - June 2, 2010
Nice prom photo Lee
E2ESQUARE - June 2, 2010
They've all got babyfaces.
Weird.
craig3410 - June 2, 2010
Well two of them are babies
Graham MacAree - June 2, 2010
Sign that kid now!!!
the other side - June 2, 2010
He looks more like a future Matt Hasselback with that hairline.
Kenneth Arthur - June 2, 2010
My god, he is already balding.
Still looks like he could have a nasty change.
the other side - June 2, 2010
SHUT IT.
melenious - June 2, 2010
I remember we posted this before
And people mistaked this for his daughter.
E-Lizz - June 2, 2010
Didn't we all!?
harkening - June 2, 2010
From the cradle to the Clifford.
thehemogoblin - June 2, 2010
Clifton, actually
Karma Police - June 2, 2010
Shit.
thehemogoblin - June 2, 2010
Cliff Lee has suck awesome hair.
MFAN - June 2, 2010
Suck?? Such.
MFAN - June 2, 2010
Cliff Lee pitching a gem of a tent so far through two.
Janic - June 2, 2010
Cliff thinks
you should buy a tractor
msb - June 2, 2010
Is that Cliff?
Cause I will buy the fucking tractor, whatever you want.
the other side - June 2, 2010
Yup.
Cliff Lee said, "I am really impressed with just how nice the Montana Tractor is and I still can’t believe I own such great pieces of farm equipment; it’s like Christmas for me today. I’m really looking forward to working with both the new tractor and the UTV." Lee continued, "The folks at Montana have been great to get to know and to work with. I’m excited about the opportunity to build a relationship with Montana and I’m looking forward to being a part of their aggressive growth."
msb - June 2, 2010
I have the sudden urge to buy a tractor and wear a camo hat and jacket and stiff dungarees
lemonverbena - June 2, 2010
You are not alone.
Those eyes are hypnotic.
the other side - June 2, 2010
I am so going to buy one.
