Off to Rangers Ballpark in Arlington!
Josh's name is in caps!
i respectfully disagree with the suckfest pick

i just got back from the game and man, i REALLY hate tui. can hannahan really be worse? i want him back now.

Please capitalize and the suckfest is not a subjective pick, it's based on WPA.

i mean really, really, really hate tui. it’s not just this game, either.

Also please use the subject line
That's not really something you can disagree with
Sorry!

I’m new here, sorry. My point is that Tui is just really sucky.

Oh, believe me, we all agree with you
I think he's more than really sucky.
How sucky is he?
-.208
So, even though Aardsma gave up three runs, because we were already losing, he is not the biggest suckfest?

Maybe not in terms of this game, but I think we need a way to rate who is the biggest failure in general… our closer has a 5+ era and the worst part is there’s no one who can take over for him. :-(

Unless Guti can pitch AND bat AND play center…

Biggest failure in general?

So you just want something we can pin on Rob Johnson every night. I’m cool with that.

I think another outfielder has dibs on pitching before Guti.
I'm pretty sure a lot (most?) of us saw this coming though...
Have you heard the good word of Brandon League yet?
So Ichiro usually heats up around now, but it seems like he hit full stride really early this year.

We are so spoiled.

Question for you.....

I looked at the explaination of the chart. Got the win expectancy thing. How do you come up with the Biggest Suckfest, Biggest Contribution, etc? Apologies if I’m missing something obvious.

The people with the largest/least WPA numbers.
Click on the "What is this chart?" link.

I didn’t understand the chart the first time I saw it either, but the article explains it in pretty simple terms.

Basically, after you have calculated the numbers, you end up with a chart that looks like this:

http://www.fangraphs.com/livewins.aspx?date=2010-06-06&team=Mariners&dh=0&season=2010

The person on the top of the list gets “Contribution” the person at the bottom gets “Suckfest.” Jeff has his own chart though so the numbers on Fangraphs don’t always match up.

Pretty simple.

Biggest Suckfest = Lowest WPA. Typically negative. Generally the sum of contributions by a player resulting in hurting the team’s chances of winning the most.

Biggest Contribution = Highest WPA. Typically positive. Generally the sum of contributions by a player resulting in helping the team’s chances of winning the most.

Thanks all. Got it, sorta.
Well...at least we'll now know if we can stop caring entirely within 4 days.
Unless we win 3 of 4 and are returned to our state of limbo.
Winning 3 out of 4 would fucking suck
Yeah, let's do it. Only this team could pull that off.
No, I still care pretty intensely about this team getting some things figured out.

Such as if we can get Saunders going full speed, if we can sort out the bullpen, if Jason Vargas can continue to be a decent mid-rotation starter, if RRS can get his groove back, and so on.

What I don’t care about is the 2010 championship. That boat’s sailed. We’re not on it.

I will be wearing M's gear into "enemy" territory in 4 days

So for the time being I’m hovering just above the Tropic.

Fuck the fucking Angels
I am so glad I missed this series.
