WE LOSE AGAIN!
Ugh, so disheartening. That word above any other sums up this series for me. Though I mentioned some of the caveats in getting too excited over the wins against Minnesota, the Twins still came in as baseball's best performing team according to the above metrics and we won three of four. Getting to within six games back and with seven straight against division foes ahead of us meant it was a key time to strike if there ever was going to be one.
Instead of putting up any sort of fight, this team got destroyed.
The draft begins today in four hours and this might be the least invested in the draft I have been in recent memory. We don't pick until 43 and though I am sure there will still be plenty to discuss and we should still leave with some exciting new names, I cannot get invested in pre-draft coverage for such a large variance pick. Good thing Jon is here!
Anyways, the draft will creep into the game itself so I expect most people will be focusing on that today and tomorrow(?). I wonder if the Mariners can manage to fail at hitting even in this ballpark.
If you had June 7th for the first appearance on the disabled list for either Ken Griffey or Mike Sweeney, then wow that would have seemed a dumb prediction back in March. And now after fretting for months about having a platoon DH that couldn't hit or field at all, we have neither of the hugging duo on the team for the time being. Weird how fast that happened.
Speaking of the disabled list, doesn't it seem like everyone who goes there dies? Have we had anyone come back from a disabled list stint yet this season? There's been only one: Cliff Lee. Erik Bedard, Josh Bard, Adam Moore, Mark Lowe, Jack Wilson and Jack Hannahan have all yet to re-appear in a Mariner game after hitting the 15 day DL. Man that is some bad mojo for Doug Fister.

I guarantee you Fister will be delayed!

I heard Moore and Bard were gonna be back sooner than later.
Mariner Melee - June 7, 2010
Moore AND Bard?
I like the sound of that, as it leaves no room for Rob Johnson.
BrettJMiller - June 7, 2010
Nope probably means we just lose the most legit dude on the team.
We love you Eliezer.
the other side - June 7, 2010
Yeah...
I fear that Robo Rob will never loose his place on this team.
:-(

Personal "Catcher"
What are the odds that we’d be so excited about a hacking 4th string catcher though? I’m torn between this rating “pleasant surprise” or “Panic because the organization can’t evaluate catchers”. I’ll see how I feel when his Avg/BABIP drop back to earth.
Drew_D - June 7, 2010
We're never gonna get to face Harden
Jeff Sullivan - June 7, 2010
I love how every one of Cliff's pitches rates at least a 75 in one category
He has the big repertoire that Ryan Franklin imagines he has.
Torjazz - June 7, 2010
That seems like a precipitous drop in fielding numbers
Was the fielding in the Angels series notably bad? I was in the woods and unable to catch anything but box scores and game charts.
Torjazz - June 7, 2010
It only updates once a week
Matthew - June 7, 2010
I figured as much
I lazily assumed the series win against MIN was good for the numbers and the sweep against LAAAneheim hurt them.
Torjazz - June 7, 2010
Is Cliff Lee's overall GB supposed to be 40 or 45?
Also, is it weird that Cliff Lee’s fastball gets more ground balls than his sinker?
thehemogoblin - June 7, 2010
45
Matthew - June 7, 2010
If we win all 4
we are at the very least 6 games back. Holy crap did that Angels series hurt us in so many ways.
The lack of Hannahan on this team is dumbfounding.
Fuckmikereilly - June 7, 2010
Worst thing that could possibly happen.
the other side - June 7, 2010
Has Jack WIlson just given up on baseball/life? I kind of miss his glove and occasional doubles.
sanford_and_son - June 7, 2010
Finally started rehabbing again with Tacoma. Hasn't gotten into a game yet, though (wet field).
JonBBT - June 7, 2010
Skimming over this I though that read given up bestiality.
Gotta get my mind out of the gutter.
the other side - June 7, 2010
NICE
insert Enumclaw joke here.
sanford_and_son - June 7, 2010
The fact that we gave our first round pick
to the Angels makes Chone Figgins’ sucking so far this year that much worse.
killer_ewok18 - June 7, 2010
Maybe that's why they didn't DL Langerhans
despite him not playing for nearly 2 weeks.
bluemax - June 7, 2010
DL curse. Thats new.
the other side - June 7, 2010
Colby Lewis
Will be starting tonight instead of Scott Feldman… Just fyi.
FormerLSBUser - June 7, 2010
No he won't

Jeff Sullivan - June 7, 2010
DAMNIT
FormerLSBUser - June 7, 2010
I think a lot of our fielding is due to Tui getting playtime.
He’s had time at first over Kotchman, and (gah) second and I don’t recall him being worth a damn at either position during that series.
Drew_D - June 7, 2010
It's lineup "shakup" time
Lineup Card
Ichiro
Bradley
Gutierrez
Lopez
Carp
Wilson
Johnson
Saunders
Figgins
ThundaPC - June 7, 2010
Oh boy I am thrilled that Lopez is hitting 4th because he needs to be hitting in one of the most important spots in the lineup
Aaron Campeau - June 7, 2010
Figgins dead last! Now we're fucking talking.
He can take walks all god damn day and get base for Ichiro. I like it.
sanford_and_son - June 7, 2010
And turn some of Ichiro's infield hits into fielders' choices!
Woo! Change!
Matthew - June 7, 2010
Well................yeah good point.
sanford_and_son - June 7, 2010
Ugh.
At least Saunders is playing?
wyte_lightning - June 7, 2010
Welcome to Texas
It’s hot, but not quite the surface of the sun. The M’s should start this series with a resounding win. Why do I think so? Take a look at the Rangers’ starting lineup for Monday June 7. Ron Washington couldn’t put a more feeble nine on the field if he were given a year to think about it. that said, again welcome, while the AL West tightens up a little more.
Ed Coffin - June 7, 2010
Good news for Texas!
If there’s anything we know how to do it’s cough up winnable games!
