This makes it seem like we still had it locked down in the 9th
I was scared we were gonna blow it.
dantheman3k - June 7, 2010
Yeah, this is definitely one of those times where the chart does not accurately reflect the general feeling of dread.
Goose - June 7, 2010
Agree!
Jeff Sullivan - June 7, 2010
Although what the hell were the Rangers doing letting Murphy and Treanor hit?
Jeff Sullivan - June 7, 2010
Well obviously the two homers Treanor had the other night made him a good hitter?
Right?
Mariner Melee - June 7, 2010
Well obviously the home runs Rob Johnson has hit makes him a good hitter too?
Right?
EWeebs - June 7, 2010
Off of Ben Sheets, sure.
Fuckmikereilly - June 7, 2010
You missed my sarcasm.
Mariner Melee - June 7, 2010
No
you missed mine
EWeebs - June 7, 2010
Dammit.
hova9 - June 7, 2010
I am so confused
Mariner Melee - June 7, 2010
you should be
EWeebs - June 7, 2010
They forgot to inflect.
This sounds way more like sarcasm. Inflection is so interesting
JAH - June 7, 2010
HAHAHA! There has never been a better chart.
Not even close. Merry Cliffmas.
Pete_ - June 7, 2010
Holy shit.
Did you just coin a new term for Cliff Days? Merry Cliffmas? That’s genius.
micky D - June 7, 2010 via mobile
It's not new.
Eyebrows - June 7, 2010
I feel like this happens all too frequently.
Missed sarcasm, that is. Or am I the one missing the intentionally missed sarcasm? Mind=blown.
hova9 - June 7, 2010
I wish I was the coin-er. But yeah, it's appropriate.
Pete_ - June 7, 2010
For the love of god, why is no one else laughting at the Leg Humping?
Pete_ - June 7, 2010
I chuckled.
Goose - June 7, 2010
Me too. At work. And then I had to look around uncomfortably
Jeff gets me at least twice a week.
Torjazz - June 8, 2010
Because I couldn't tell what it was
I thought Lee broke his leg, or something.
HitKing69 - June 7, 2010
That isn't leg humping but I was afraid it would be confused for leg humping
Jeff Sullivan - June 7, 2010
Is the little Mariner try to drag Cliff back from leaving?
MFAN - June 7, 2010
*trying.
MFAN - June 7, 2010
That's what I was going for
Jeff Sullivan - June 7, 2010
Can't it be both?
Jeff Nye - June 7, 2010
Cause in this case could equal effect
pdb - June 7, 2010
That was my first impression of what it was
Matthew - June 7, 2010
I got it.
Eyeball Kid - June 7, 2010
Oh. I saw both options, and chose.
I like both interpretations.
Pete_ - June 8, 2010
I didn't know if it was trying to keep Lee from leaving, holding him back, or humping his leg.
joof - June 7, 2010
It's like a Matthew joke
Jeff Sullivan - June 7, 2010
Needs more graphs.
Matthew - June 7, 2010
I thought it was a Mariners ball and chain...
TrashiDawa - June 7, 2010
Guti??
When was the last time he was biggest suckfest?
EWeebs - June 7, 2010
Has he ever?
Mariner Melee - June 7, 2010
Yes, when he's on a date with any LL member.
MFAN - June 7, 2010
May 11.
harkening - June 7, 2010
Go baseball!
I missed the game.
Slow Country - June 7, 2010
Stalactites make me concerned, too.
You always worry about spikes above your head when you’re in an enclosed place.
Faux - June 7, 2010
This is a game we needed badly.
Although, to be fair we need victories in the next three games too. Go M’s.
TrustBaseball - June 7, 2010
Even with wins in the next 3...
ah fuck it, Go M’s!
Fuckmikereilly - June 7, 2010
That's the spirit!
TrustBaseball - June 7, 2010
God I love Cliff Lee. What an ace.
I will miss him dearly.
sanford_and_son - June 7, 2010
I'm going to miss Cliff Lee so much when he dies after this year
Punkhazard - June 7, 2010
I was actively hoping the Ms would go down in order faster so that we could get back to Cliff Lee dominating.
It was both sad, and relieving to not care weather they won or lost.
FairWeatherFred - June 7, 2010
My 2010 Mariners team depression is transitioning into "Cliff Lee isn't coming back" depression.
I think I’m more upset about that then the team as a whole now.
SethGrandpa - June 7, 2010
This is really hard for me as well. CLIFF FUCKING LEE is such a good pitcher.
For all our futility, we deserve him. How can we let him go? What can we do to make him stay? I wish there was a plan.
TrustBaseball - June 7, 2010
Our owners have plenty of money, just add more payroll!
Matthew, Jeff, you guys are magical, make it happen.
OceanBird - June 7, 2010
Yes, please. Fix this so we can keep him.
TrustBaseball - June 7, 2010
We can be a less bad baseball team
pdb - June 7, 2010
Figgins is not happy to be hitting 9th.
Even with the win.
msb - June 7, 2010
Chemistry uber alles!!
Jesus Jones - June 7, 2010
If being unhappy causes him to go 3-4 and play spectacular defense
we need to get Josh Wilson and Rob Johnson to give him a good nut-tapping before every game.
mkries - June 7, 2010
Wak better watch out. Not making any friends with this type of move.
Rudy4three - June 7, 2010
Drayer has a blog note
here
msb - June 7, 2010
Figgins is a pro. He's not going to let this interfere with his game, but you have to question
whether moves like this are worth it. I imagine he wasn’t pleased moving to 2B full-time, however, that move actually made sense.
This lineup juggling is just a desperate and pointless attempt to jumpstart a below average team/offense.
And while Figgins shouldn’t be so caught up in where he hits in the lineup, we all know that professional players are sensitive about things like where they hit, and this surely is a slap in the face to Figgins.
Rudy4three - June 7, 2010
I actually feel bad for Figgins, and I don't think that he "deserved" to be dropped in the lineup
But at the same time, I don’t blame Wak for trying something, ANYTHING to try to find an offensive combination that works.
I’ve not heard anything one way or another, but I wonder how secure Wak’s job is.
Jeff Nye - June 7, 2010
He's secure. I just don't buy into moving guys around in the order.
The offense is what it is. It’s not going to become a good offense suddenly because Bradley is batting second and Figgins ninth.
It just doesn’t make sense to me. Why exactly is Bradley going to catch fire because he’s hitting second? What’s the rationale there?
Rudy4three - June 7, 2010
Will likely see more fastballs with Ichiro on base
Matt Erickson - June 7, 2010
He'll see more fastballs, but if he's not going to catch fire until he quits pressing.
He’s swinging at those stupid low, inside balls that can only break his bat. That’s all he’s going to see until he stops swinging at them, no matter where he bats in the order.
TrustBaseball - June 7, 2010
I'm curious what it would actually take to keep Cliff.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a team would give him a 5 year deal. I wonder how important it is to him to play for a contender?
5/100? More? Less?
doublemazaa - June 7, 2010
More. Especally if he keeps pitching like this.
SethGrandpa - June 7, 2010
A postseason appearance and a bucket of money likely.
Belom3 - June 7, 2010
Diversity!
Janic - June 7, 2010
.
chezbergrur - June 7, 2010
Loved the Cliff Lee postgame comments to Brad Adam's stupid question, "Do you see yourself as a stopper?"
To paraphrase, “I expect to win every game I start whether we’ve won or lost the game before.”
RustyJohn - June 7, 2010
I love Cliff Lee knowing full well he's going to break my heart.
JY - June 7, 2010
Summer romances are bittersweet.
JAH - June 7, 2010
Summer lovin', happened so fa-a-ast
Jeff Nye - June 7, 2010
See, some people would chalk that up as him not being a team player.
In my book though, it just makes him that much more awesome.
I think I’m going to continue to be a Cliff Lee fan wherever he ends up going, now.
Jeff Nye - June 7, 2010
Yep. He's already become one of the guys, that even if he were become an Angel, I'd still love him.
Goose - June 8, 2010
It was a stupid question and Lee appropriately gave the right answer.
We have CLIFF FUCKING LEE pitching for us. That is so awesome. I’m going to miss him.
TrustBaseball - June 7, 2010
Best chart ever.
I know you’re leaving Cliff but um, PLEASE STAY. :’(
E-Lizz - June 7, 2010
We're going to get some sweet draft picks or an amazing prospect because of that man.
lailaihei - June 7, 2010
Yeah, but when I watch him pitch, it's hard to believe you would ever voluntarily give this man to another team.
Rudy4three - June 7, 2010
It won't be voluntary.
That would imply the first choice wouldn’t be to just bring him back. I believe that’s the hope of the front office, but it’s probably not a realistic one.
SethGrandpa - June 7, 2010
We need to find a way to keep him. I'm feeling so desperate, I'll stop now.
It would just be so incredible to keep him. What a pitcher that man is. I don’t want to see him in a Yankees jersey ever. Ok, now I’ll stop.
TrustBaseball - June 7, 2010
We'll get better, Cliff! Honest! Really!
And how much money do you need to live like a medieval prince in Arkansas?
Oh. That much. Huh.
ignacio - June 7, 2010
Yeah...thats...wow that is a shit load of money.
the other side - June 7, 2010
Plus all the extras on top to compensate for not going to the post-season, and to live waaaaaaaay out here.
msb - June 8, 2010
Oh Criff.
the other side - June 7, 2010
I just realized that today isn't the first day of the Brumley/Tinsley experiment.
Tinsley was over at third base yesterday too. I’m just now watching yesterday’s game.
nemo1 - June 7, 2010
Brumley wasn't there though.
Mariner John - June 7, 2010
He was there yesterday because Brumley was attending a graduation or something
Some Rainiers coach coached first. Then they made an official switcheroo today.
Matt Erickson - June 7, 2010
Instead of dwelling on the inevitable, I'm going to savor each of his outings.
I don’t know about you, but I’m going to keep rooting for him, regardless of what uniform he’s in.
melenious - June 8, 2010
Amen.
Each one of his starts have been a masterpiece. Utter domination. I’m gonna HATE to see him leave, but no matter where he ends up, I’ll still be rooting for him.
wyte_lightning - June 8, 2010
Agreed.
And if there’s one reason to still make it up to Seattle for a game this summer, its to try to see him pitch before he is gone.
