If we assume that at least one Mariner in history witnessed Halley’s Comet in the sky as they tried to navigate the sea they probably were pretty fucking confused. Using this same idea, when Chone Figgins looked at the line up and saw Langerhans penciled in he probably felt the same way.
is this is the same ankle he had surgery on last year. This story doesn’t shed much actual light on the situation, but it does reference the incident last year and confirms that the evaluating doctor will be the same one who performed the surgery on him last time around.
Russell Branyan and Michael Saunders were out today with minor injuries.
When they’re back, and with Smoak starting to hit, there might be some interest in the remaining games. I just got so burned out on losing 2-1, 3-1, 3-0 and so on. So many of the games just felt so hopeless.
I think it's safe to say that he has overcome his weakness to changeups

Allen Wu - July 17, 2010
So are Javier Vazquez and C. C. Sabbathia change ups.
philosofool - July 17, 2010
Are the Mariners playing better and losing more?
I guess dingers will make it feel like they’re playing better even if that isn’t true.
Snuffleupagus - July 17, 2010
It seems like for every dinger the Mariners get, they give it right back with an error
Allen Wu - July 17, 2010
We could lose by 20 and I still wouldn't care as long as Smoak does good
OceanBird - July 17, 2010
I missed the homer, but I loved the double.
It was almost all wrist, and he still didn’t miss the fence by much.
Jeff Nye - July 17, 2010
I missed the game but hey Langerhans played!?
Joe Metro - July 17, 2010
Yes.
Meaning you will not see him for another 30 games.
the other side - July 17, 2010
Ryan Langerhans is the Mariner's equivalent of Halley's Comet
wyte_lightning - July 17, 2010
*Mariners
Fuck.
wyte_lightning - July 17, 2010
Not so fast, it can still make sense!

OceanBird - July 17, 2010
The Mariners
Finding another painful way to lose.
skywaker9 - July 17, 2010
It wasn't really painful.
Got to see a fun comeback and Smoak and we still kept pace with Baltimore!
the other side - July 17, 2010
How many people are actually still pained by these losses?
ThundaPC - July 17, 2010
Ryan Rowland-Smith.
lailaihei - July 17, 2010
Excellent!
Feel bad for the guy…thought he was better than this – been a disappointing year for sure.
mwalter - July 18, 2010
I've been in a lounge chair below the Tropic of Cairo drinking a beer for a while now.
Brian Floyd - July 17, 2010
I've gone so far past the Trop[ic of Cairo I have crossed it on the other side of the Earth.
Do better, Mariners. >:
eponymous_coward - July 17, 2010
... So ...
You’re saying you don’t care to such a significant degree that it has caused you to care again?
CapSea - July 17, 2010
People are still watching the Mariners?
I mean, I check the scores, but actually watching the games? I hope the writers of this site get paid for it or something.
Aly Edge - July 17, 2010
As long as the readers keep buying wonderful Comcast Cable they do!
Mariner John - July 18, 2010
Nothing has changed huh?.....figures!
scooter4 - July 17, 2010
Rendon!
Marinerfanjake - July 17, 2010
He's hurt pretty bad. Shattered his ankle
ignacio - July 17, 2010
Shattered?
Those are harsh words. I’m not denying it, but the first I heard what merely “break”.
Besides, maybe this drops him to our #3 pick!
philosofool - July 17, 2010
Fractured and dislocated
Doesn’t sound pretty.
Brian Floyd - July 17, 2010
What I read sounded really bad.
Where did I see it? I don’t know. It sounded like a terrible injury though.
ignacio - July 17, 2010
But he has a long time to recover before the season starts.
I read he would be back by the time next season starts.
Fuckmikereilly - July 17, 2010
Fractures are what? 8-12 week recoveries?
He’s got till February
Marinerfanjake - July 17, 2010
The main thing that would concern me
is this is the same ankle he had surgery on last year. This story doesn’t shed much actual light on the situation, but it does reference the incident last year and confirms that the evaluating doctor will be the same one who performed the surgery on him last time around.
misterjonez - July 17, 2010
Smoak!
philosofool - July 17, 2010
I cannot believe
We’re just over halfway done with this season. Seems like it’s been over for months already.
surfmonkey89 - July 17, 2010

I hope Saunders can at least remain interesting.
Because once pitcher figure out he can’t hit anything on the outside part of the plate….

Sorry...double post.
Mariner Melee - July 18, 2010
Sigh...
G@B3 - July 17, 2010
I've come to accept our losing ways this year
but it would be so much more palatable if we could just beat those damn dirty Halos every so often.
Guess I’ll have to settle for them not making the playoffs as some sort of meager consolation prize.

lemonverbena - July 18, 2010
Wow, just think about how much that sucker cost!
Mariner Melee - July 18, 2010
This guy is totally dead
d0nkey - July 19, 2010
Smoak homered again?
Fuck yeah!
Eyeball Kid - July 18, 2010
The first three AB for Smoak featured absolutely scorched liners to left at varying heights.
It would be neat to say that Smoak can definitely hit lefties, but at least we say for sure that he knows what to do with Joe Saunders.
abender20 - July 18, 2010
Justin Smoak's bRAA of 1.5 is higher than Cliff Lee's pRAA of -0.1
I hereby declare this trade a victory!
Dewey N - July 18, 2010
Woo! Party at Jeff's!
OceanBird - July 18, 2010
Cliff Lee
Sad to see he went 9 and got no decision. After all, he handled the lack of run support in Seattle with class. Hope he does well. Go Smoak!
April 6, 1977 - July 18, 2010 via mobile
I hope Cliff Lee sucks the rest of the year up so bad nobody else but us wants him next year.
d0nkey - July 19, 2010
I concur!
Mariner Melee - July 18, 2010
Does Smoak's skillset remind anyone else of David Segui?
BigR - July 18, 2010
Um, no?
msb - July 18, 2010
I say no.
Segui never posted an ISO over .200 and maxed out at 21 homers. I feel like Smoak is better than that right now.
Jon S. - July 18, 2010 via mobile
Ew, gross
OceanBird - July 18, 2010 via mobile
I don't think he can frost his tips quite as well as Segui could.
Mariner John - July 18, 2010
Well that's a clear "no" then
