SLOW BRAIN
ThundaPC - July 21, 2010
Lopez is the most mediocre player in the history of the world
Marinerfanjake - July 21, 2010
It seems like Jose is awesome at one thing every year and aweful at everything else
and it’s a different thing every year
TIFO - July 21, 2010
What the hell is he awesome at this year?
Because he seems like he sucks at everything right now to me.
philosofool - July 21, 2010
DEFENSE!
Fuckmikereilly - July 21, 2010
Defense at 3B.
Okay. Right. I still hate that lazy shit for making outs like that’s how we cover his room service bill (which he can no longer sign “Carlos”)
philosofool - July 21, 2010
It's not like he's always been completely useless
People seem to forget he’s put up 2.3 and 2.5 wins the last two seasons. That being said, he’s of course done here and he’s the dumbest player I’ve ever seen and one of the two laziest. And when he’s having a poor hitting season, that makes him pretty hateable.
Fuckmikereilly - July 21, 2010
I think "mentally lazy" is the indictment I would pursue against him.
He is a completely incompetent professional baseball player. How he got to where he is, is a complete mystery. More stupid than Yuni although Yuni is physically lazier. These two are head-scratchers.
TrustBaseball - July 21, 2010
He was pretty physically lazy too, though, from all indications.
He has that ridiculous contract clause as proof of that.
Fuckmikereilly - July 21, 2010
It's just sad.
He and Betancourt could’ve been an amazing middle-infield if they just cared and weren’t so stupid.
Hopefulmsfan - July 21, 2010
That's what it is; it is sad.
Two young men in the prime of their lives, with a gift very few are given and they are total fuck-ups (sorry about the language). They could be/they could have been “players” that were a wonder to watch for many years, but they are an embarrassment to the game of baseball. What a waste of potential. That is a very sad statement.
TrustBaseball - July 21, 2010
You apologized for an F-bomb?
Brian Floyd - July 21, 2010
I don't want to offend (yeah, I know everyone on this site is eventually offended), but
that wasn’t the point of my comment. I couldn’t make my comment without being offensive because jeesch can those two be any more frustrating? Wasted potential is incomprehensible to me.
TrustBaseball - July 21, 2010
I don't think those who get offended by F-bombs still visit Lookout Landing
Allen Wu - July 21, 2010
Yeah it really drove me away
Dewey N - July 21, 2010
Guti gets +50.6%, the entire rest of the lineup gets -51.5%
and Lopez accounts for -23.9% of that (while seven other players split the remaining -27.6%).
NWade - July 21, 2010
Felix had a bigger contribution than Guti did
Graham MacAree - July 21, 2010
Sorry I meant offensively.
To put it another way: Lopez’ negatives virtually wiped out every positive thing Figgins did today. And oh yeah, Figgins scored the winning run!!!
NWade - July 21, 2010
I think he was talking to Jeff.
Because Jeff made Guti the biggest contribution.
Hopefulmsfan - July 21, 2010
Ah, thanks. I assumed incorrectly that it was a reply-fail.
And yes, Felix was amazing tonight! Really hope he gets post-game interviews and press on it, he deserves it.
NWade - July 21, 2010
Well that's embarrassing
Jeff Sullivan - July 21, 2010
I don't think I've seen someone hit a walkoff single when down by one and not get biggest contribution before
It’s a pretty weird WPA line
Graham MacAree - July 21, 2010
That is my excuse!
Jeff Sullivan - July 21, 2010
What's embarrassing is that I have that part automated
Jeff Sullivan - July 21, 2010
Stupid robots.
abender20 - July 21, 2010
ROBOTS!?
abender20 - July 21, 2010
Shouldn't that make it less embarrassing?
Like I always say, it’s easier to blame a computer than not blame a computer
Dewey N - July 21, 2010
And he doesn't mean on a computer
lemonverbena - July 21, 2010
Weird
Even without the mysterious baseball insight of Rob Johnson penetrating the psyche of every batter Felix managed to muddle through with 2H, 8K, 0BB and 0WP.
I bet he can’t wait for Robocatcher’s hips to feel better.
short - July 21, 2010
I'm hoping Robohips is out for the rest of the season.
TrustBaseball - July 21, 2010
Seems Moore is hitting well enough to come back
I can’t say if his defense has improved. But was he worse than Johnson when he was up this year?
short - July 21, 2010
It's been said that they're going to take it slow with Moore
The organization wants his next call-up to be his last.
wyte_lightning - July 21, 2010
After a hot start when coming back, Moore has OPSed .493 over the last ten games
With 11 K’s, including 6 the last two games. I want him up as badly as anyone, but he’s not hitting well right now in Tacoma.
Fuckmikereilly - July 21, 2010
Nobody has been worse than Johnson this year with the sample size Rob's given us.
Let’s see what Moore’s got. I believe it can’t be worse that RJ, but now we have the time to find out.
TrustBaseball - July 21, 2010
God dammit, Loafie
wyte_lightning - July 21, 2010
Even in a season like this, this was a nice win to see.
Just to see Figgins come through for once and make some big plays and Guti get the walk-off. The celebration makes me smile.
Hopefulmsfan - July 21, 2010
I can't wait for the Lopez/Yuni reunion in KC
Poor Joe Posnaski…
Grady Clapp - July 21, 2010
If only we could take the gif of them on a bike and put KC on their hats.
Hopefulmsfan - July 21, 2010
Haha, poor Pos
As if Yuni and Lopez together would be the worst thing he’d seen (and had to write about)! Aww, but yeah, poor Joe Posnanski. That being said, please trade Lopez to KC for value Z!
jzalman - July 22, 2010
Figgins isn't hitting for shit,
but he’s stolen 25 bags to 6 CS.
Just think how many he’d have if he could hit!
craig3410 - July 21, 2010
If his hitting comes around (and I think it will), he's going to be exactly what we expected.
Hopefully tonight starts him on the right path. Him being himself next year (and taking his defense back to 3B) is one of the biggest improvements possible for 2010.
Fuckmikereilly - July 21, 2010
Ahahaha Oliver Perez pitching in the bottom of the 12th of a tied ballgame.
This, I need to watch.
Fuckmikereilly - July 21, 2010
Please walk in the run!
Slurvey - July 21, 2010
So I missed this game, but judging from the Twitter posts and the comments in the game thread...
Jose Lopez is some kind of genius.
Jeff’s Twitter posts: Holy shit.
Joe Metro - July 21, 2010
Don't ever get the idea that Lopez is a genius. That man is a total idiot.
TrustBaseball - July 21, 2010
Sarcasm on LL?!?
Nooooo waaay!!
short - July 21, 2010
This is not a surprise.
drblacknwhite - July 21, 2010
Oh dear
Allen Wu - July 21, 2010
This neither surprises or worries me.
BrettJMiller - July 21, 2010
Hopefully he wasn't throwing things with his right arm.
That would defeat the purpose.
Fuckmikereilly - July 21, 2010
"Fuck you Wak, I'm going to go throw another 30 pitches in the Bullpen."
joof - July 22, 2010
I was going to complain what an inexplicable decision that was.
I’m more upset with Wak than Loafie about that. First 126 pitches after coming in with 104 in the 9th a few weeks ago, now out after 93 through 8. I’ve argued that Wak should be left in because of the hopes that he goes back to what he did last year (he tremendous job in 2009), but he’s pretty obviously losing the trust of the team.
Decatur - July 21, 2010
We are so lucky to have Jeff as our god and leader as well.
scooter4 - July 21, 2010
The Figgy/WIlson hug at home plate makes me smile.
Also nice to see Smoak reach Guti first and dear god I hope Milton wasn’t stabbing Guti during the celebration.
Slurvey - July 21, 2010
I was so happy when I saw Smoak get there first
He looked so genuinely a part of the team, so glad for the win. It’s great to see that, especially given that he came from a serious WS threat team to one of the worst in the majors. Like the man he was traded for, he just wants to help his team win, and he’s accepted the M’s as his team. So happy.
jzalman - July 22, 2010
Jose Lopez' nervous system sometimes forgets to keep his organs functioning
lemonverbena - July 21, 2010
It's the "sometimes" that's a problem.
TrustBaseball - July 21, 2010
So what exactly was the reason for relieving Felix?
Any theories? Has anyone come up with a defense yet for the decision?
pixburgher - July 21, 2010
Pitch count.
They are watching his pitches so he doesn’t kill himself in a lost year,
msb - July 21, 2010
We like his arm
And we’re in a meaningless season.
Brian Floyd - July 21, 2010
Way too many innings this season already.
philosofool - July 21, 2010
I love this interesting belief that Lou would tear into his players, by name, in public.
msb - July 21, 2010
Felix via Divish's twitter
wyte_lightning - July 21, 2010
Good, he should feel that way
But he should still be taken out when the coaches/trainers think he should come out.
Snuffleupagus - July 21, 2010
No need to incur an injury on a lost season. He's done more than should be expected for a
losing team this year.
TrustBaseball - July 21, 2010
Felix is a beast
Allen Wu - July 21, 2010
So that's what you take from this?
abender20 - July 21, 2010
Yes, and I wish we had more beasts on the team.
Allen Wu - July 21, 2010
Oh.
abender20 - July 21, 2010
On one hand, I believe him.
On the other hand, he hangs around Jose Lopez too much.
ThundaPC - July 21, 2010
I agree on both counts.
wyte_lightning - July 21, 2010
And loves Rob Johnson
short - July 21, 2010
Felix has no reason to say "I'm tired and I should have come out because I'd thrown enough pitches"
I would expect him to say exactly what he said, as I would expect any pitcher to say the same. It’s a manager’s job to protect his pitcher’s arm – Wak in this case was doing his job.
pdb - July 22, 2010
Felix, along with other pitchers, have over a million different sayings to chose from.
Even a simple “I would’ve liked to have stayed out there but it’s ultimately the Manager’s call” makes a world of difference.
I don’t mind if players are honest but they’re not limited to two choices as far as what they can say and how they can say it.
ThundaPC - July 22, 2010
I'd be more mad if he didn't care about the game.
Confidence is good.
MT Olson - July 21, 2010
Drayer just pointed out that were he truly angry he wouldn't have been in the clubhouse, holding his son, talking to the media
msb - July 21, 2010
He's a professional. He's going to have to deal with the M
TrustBaseball - July 21, 2010
s for the next 5 years. Give them another two to re-build and he'll be ok.
TrustBaseball - July 21, 2010
Maybe he should talk to Erik Bedard.
Coach Owens - July 21, 2010
I sorta....
kinda love this.
I think they do need to slow their roll on his innings though.
PLU Tim - July 21, 2010
Common fan thought process:
If Felix says this, he’s a competitive gamer and a warrior and an awesome dude.
If Figgins has a cow about being replaced for a pinch hitter and complains, he’s a whiny little fuck who needs to be DFA’d even though we owe him money.
The Typical Idiot Fan - July 21, 2010
At least he isn't trying to barehand line drives anymore
He needs to have this fire. And Wak’s his boss. We’ve gone over this before, this is how it works. Wak will/would take the blame if it ended badly. Felix needs to be “handled” otherwise he jeopardize himself. I wouldn’t have it any other way…except I’d have left him in…
jzalman - July 22, 2010
Aw fiddlesticks I missed it
Dewey N - July 21, 2010
My phone died in the top of the 11th and I had assumed we lost
Poochie - July 22, 2010
Anyone else starting to get nervous about Ichiros extended slump in terms of him maybe not getting to 200 hits this year?
He’s got 67 games left to get 88 hits for an average of 1.31 hits a game. His current season average is 1.28 hits per game. He’s going to have to pick it up a bit.
TIFO - July 22, 2010
He's still smacking the ball around pretty good, just getting unlucky.
Should have had two hits tonight for instance. He’ll heat up again pretty soon and get back on pace.
drblacknwhite - July 22, 2010
I wouldn't be too worried until it's officially too late.
He’ll get his hits.
Hopefulmsfan - July 22, 2010
Ichiro is the exact same player he's been for the past 10 years.
The only thing different about him is that he’s getting fewer pitches in the srikezone (44.7% in 2010 vs. 52% career), swinging at more at pitches outside the strikezone (35.3% in 2010 vs. 25.8% career), and making better contact with those out-of-zone pitches (81.8% in 2010 vs. 75.4% career). That and he’s walking a little more than usual and hitting fewer home runs than usual. He’s still projected to get 203 hits this year by ZiPS.
Decatur - July 22, 2010
... I agree with your last point.
But I think it’s funny that you essentially wrote “He’s the exact same hitter. The only thing different is that he is an entirely different hitter.”
CapSea - July 22, 2010
*"Player" is the total package of offense, defense, and running, whereas "hitter" encompasses hitting.
So don’t hate the playa, hate the name.
Decatur - July 24, 2010
As with any streak I kinda want it to end so people will stop focusing on it
it will be a sad day when it ends, but it will end, as all streaks do.
