I honestly think that the Marlins will be able to have a better draw per game there than at Dolphin/Landshark/Pro Player. It’s just too far to drive for most people to go to a game.
League average players at best on each side. Bobby Crosby is horrible. I wonder about Arizona’s strategy these days although it does make sense to get rid of Snyder.

Giambi agreed to be optioned to AAA Columbus in 2004 or 2005 if I recall correctly when he was deeply slumping, even after being a veteran free agent, so it isn’t unprecedented
I don’t think they just stay there even through arbitration…pretty sure it’s not like one of those things where they stay there if you don’t use them. At a certain point I think they go away.
We’re not going anywhere next year, and at first glance it doesn’t appear that we will be targeting any major free agents this off season. Might as well keep Lopez around. He can man second base until we call up Ackley. And hey, if Lopez does rebound, we can flip him for something shiny come summer.
He’s a pile of shit and I would rather spend the money he’d be owed if we picked up his option to have Lady Gaga sing the national anthem at every home game.
Even if his 2011 is the same as 2010, the negative WAR he'd attribute until it's safe to call Ackley up would be a fair trade for the WAR Ackley would provide us in 2017.
Lopez had a bad approach last year, but still put up a good numbers.
The only things different this season are his BABIP and ISO. It seems conceivable that he could rebound to his prior levels of production. There’s value in that.
I don't think ISO is really luck based. Especially when you consider his home runs were all pretty much fake home runs.
He’s crap these days…I have to agree that it’d just be a season punt if we were to play him significantly next year. I also don’t think paying him his $4.5 million option is smart at all. And I doubt he’d re-sign with us if we bought him out. Which, why would we do that anyway.
I am told the #Mariners have a reliever on the way up from AAA. Do not know the corresponding move. Could be because of trade or need. less than 20 seconds ago via web
The city that is Tacoma is automatically worse than the cities that are not Tacoma.
Also, I think you misunderstood because he was saying that he really did think that it was apt which meant that in his opinion he thought it was apt, and he was being funny as you were saying his opinion was false, and he was saying, hey, I really did have that opinion. That sentence was clearly of acceptable length.
I love most places in the state, but every time I go to Tacoma it's usually a shitty experience.
Just not a fun place to be, in my opinion. I much prefer Spokane, Pullman, Ellensburg, Everett, Arlington, Darrington, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Whidbey, etc. etc. I don’t know why, but I just hate Tacoma, it always sucks when I go there.
“Morosi also reports that Matt Tuiasosopo is coming to Seattle. Lopez may be getting DL’ed. If they can’t trade him, at least this way they don’t have to play him. "
I don’t get why it’d just be lost coming to Seattle…it’s just a SSS issue I think. Plus, how can he learn to hit MLB pitching in AAA? It just seems silly.
I'd rather just hit the undo button and pretend like it never happened
This year confirmed by fears about having Figgins in that I don’t understand how he is a MLB hitter. He probably rebounds but I’m just scared he could be a bit of a bust.
I don't think Mangini's good enough to replace him and Liddi and Triunfel aren't ready yet.
And I think the consensus around the M’s blogosphere is that Jose Lopez should be taken to the glue factory. So, I think taking a shot on Figgins bouncing back is still Seattle’s best shot.
Does DA get dealt?
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
I don't think he does.
Z isn’t going to have any interest in selling low and every team is going to want to buy low. I don’t see it happening.

I don't think outside of the Lee deal
they have dealt a top 20 prospect and have Lee (A), Francisco (A), Vlad (A), Oliver (A/B), Molina (A/B), Cantu (B/0) all being FA next year.
I would not be surprised to see Texas have 5 or 6 picks in the 1st and supplemental again
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
You think they're offering arbitration to all those guys?
Jeff Sullivan - July 31, 2010
Gotta keep Molina to see how many times he gets thrown out on singles to right field.
abender20 - July 31, 2010
Will definately with
Lee, Francisco
the rest are maybes. But still Lee and Francisco are potentially 4 picks plus their own.
I would rank the likelihood of offering would go like
Cantu (if he makes class B) Oliver, Molina, Vlad, Guzman (forgot about him)
Depends on what happens with the ownership situation. Would still not surprise me to see 5 or 6 picks plus their normal allotment.
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
They'll likely be exercising Vlad's option.
Molina and Cantu wouldn’t be offered arbitration. Molina made $4.5 million this year and Cantu made $6. Both would accept.

Texas offered Pudge last year and he declined.
Cantu might be better than what they could get on the open market.

Tacoma Rainiers.
He still has options, right?
lailaihei - July 31, 2010 via mobile
Nope, he's into arbitration, and options are option YEARS, not like a set number of times you can option someone up or down.
He was brought up for the first time in ‘04, so I’m almost 100% certain he has no options.
BrettJMiller - July 31, 2010
Hmm, I thought the option years only disappear in years the player is optioned.

BrettJMiller - July 31, 2010

We’re not going anywhere next year, and at first glance it doesn’t appear that we will be targeting any major free agents this off season. Might as well keep Lopez around. He can man second base until we call up Ackley. And hey, if Lopez does rebound, we can flip him for something shiny come summer.
katal - July 31, 2010
No.
He’s a pile of shit and I would rather spend the money he’d be owed if we picked up his option to have Lady Gaga sing the national anthem at every home game.
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
Maybe she could sing the anthem at some games
and maybe she could sing Just Dance during the 7th inning stretch at others
Poochie - July 31, 2010
I am with you good sir.
I see no way Jack Z picks that option up. Too expensive, bad player. I’d rather see Ackley up in April, service clock or not.
BrettJMiller - July 31, 2010
I have to agree with Aaron here. His approach will never change and pitchers will only continue to learn more about him.
abender20 - July 31, 2010
I realize that the odds of competing in 2011 aren't high but starting Jose Lopez next year is the definition of punting a season
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
Even if his 2011 is the same as 2010, the negative WAR he'd attribute until it's safe to call Ackley up would be a fair trade for the WAR Ackley would provide us in 2017.
katal - July 31, 2010
We could always start Josh Wilson at second
Poochie - July 31, 2010
This is true.
I concede my argument in favor of keeping Lopez.
katal - July 31, 2010
I dislike service time manipulation.
If the player is ready, he should be starting. And I also think there are options besides Ackley and Lopez.
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
Sadly right now they all involve Tui.
MT Olson - July 31, 2010
Josh Wilson, random freely available dudes, etc.
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
Did you see Ackleys contract? If we have him an extra year he will get a big payday.
lailaihei - July 31, 2010 via mobile
If Ackley is everything we think he'll be, we'd be locking him up long term before that anyway.
abender20 - July 31, 2010
Lopez had a bad approach last year, but still put up a good numbers.
The only things different this season are his BABIP and ISO. It seems conceivable that he could rebound to his prior levels of production. There’s value in that.
katal - July 31, 2010
He had a bad approach, sure, but he had something resembling hitting ability, too.
He’s done and I am tired of watching him.
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
Yeah there is no good reason he should have just had his BABIP and ISO fall apart this year
He’s not a good player and is a disappointment compared to what I thought he was going to be when he first came up but he’s not a useless player.
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
Disagree
And I am tired of his face and his play. I want him to go the fuck away.
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
I don't think ISO is really luck based. Especially when you consider his home runs were all pretty much fake home runs.
He’s crap these days…I have to agree that it’d just be a season punt if we were to play him significantly next year. I also don’t think paying him his $4.5 million option is smart at all. And I doubt he’d re-sign with us if we bought him out. Which, why would we do that anyway.
BrettJMiller - July 31, 2010
It's the Soriano treatment with curveballs. I honestly doubt he's doing much differently other than pitchers just fucking with him.
abender20 - July 31, 2010
I want DA and League traded just so Brian Sweeney would be our closer.
MFAN - July 31, 2010
LEUKE
abender20 - July 31, 2010
Sort of makes sense why they moved him to AAA when they did.

Dewey N - July 31, 2010
We're talking about Josh Fields right....
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
Lueke has actually performed
Jeff Sullivan - July 31, 2010
No because he's a pile of shit and signing him was a bad idea.
abender20 - July 31, 2010
One of my least favorite sports is thinking of who we could have picked in the first round instead of Josh Fields.
katal - July 31, 2010
Yeah it was a horrible signing
But I thought he was realistically going to be a good RP. Drafting a RP in the 1st rd and having him suck is a double whammy.
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
I remember Dave before draft day.
Slurvey - July 31, 2010
He plays third for the Royals
Poochie - July 31, 2010
LUEKE
Boy USSM mods are going to have fun with this.
JY - July 31, 2010
For two reasons
Jeff Sullivan - July 31, 2010
I've already seen some trouble
If Ichiro gets hounded for touching a girl’s leg while trying to get a foul ball, I can only imagine how amazing this will be.
JY - July 31, 2010
Are you referring to the incident where the girl had to be bribed with goodies so she wouldn't sue?
the other side - July 31, 2010
Why yes, yes I am.
JY - July 31, 2010
USSM comments usually give me a chuckle, but that guy was something else.
the other side - July 31, 2010
just FYI it seems like the whole story is overblown from what I have heard
and the only reason why there hasn’t been a public retraction is that Lueke is still waiting on payments to him from the court settlement to complete
laxtonto - July 31, 2010

Actually they didn't know, and had a "sit-down" with him in Seattle once they found out.
But I don’t think it really matters at this point

I don't understand why people keep referring to Lueke as a throw-in.

SeaKoala - July 31, 2010
Yep
Good for us, we probably avoid Super Two if we keep him down
OlSalty - July 31, 2010
Yay
Graham MacAree - July 31, 2010
I don't mind particularly.
It’s known that he was promoted quite aggressively.
Plus this means we get to see more of Mike Carp in left field.
JY - July 31, 2010
Let the hilarity ensue.
He’ll be flopping around like a dead fish out there.
wyte_lightning - July 31, 2010
He had an outfield assist the other day!
JY - July 31, 2010
Aw :(
Eyeball Kid - July 31, 2010
Hahahaa Dave
Dave Cameron: If i was an MLB player on the trade block, I’d spend my whole day screwing with reporters.
2:16 I’d start randomly packing my things, hugging people…
2:16 Ask someone to google “apartments in Queens” for me.

I WANT BRIGNAC DAMMIT
Slurvey - July 31, 2010
Dream on
Graham MacAree - July 31, 2010
I remember when Brignac was pulled from a AAA game and we all freaked the flip out.
Slurvey - July 31, 2010
Maybe I just don't really see it
But what makes Brignac that desirable?
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
Eh cheap SH SS with some power and some speed.
Slurvey - July 31, 2010
He's a cost-controlled, ~league average SS with a fair amount of upside
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
Does he have that much upside and why would he be a league average SS?
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
He's very good defensively
Marinerfanjake - July 31, 2010
If that matters
Marinerfanjake - July 31, 2010
Ok didn't know that.
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
He has a fair amount, sure. He's young and has always hit well in the minors.
As far as why he’s league average, well, he’s been worth 1.5 wins in 77 games this season and his numbers in the minors suggest that it’s not a fluke.
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
Yeah i'm splitting hairs. He is probably 1-2 WAR
I don’t think his minor league numbers really help you point much. All his high minor numbers aren’t too impressive
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
He can't be any worse than Jack and Josh
Marinerfanjake - July 31, 2010
He's been a league average hitter every year in the minors save one and is an average-slightly above average defensive SS.
He’s not going to set the world on fire offensively, but he’d be an enormous upgrade for this team.
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
What a boring deadline!
Marinerfanjake - July 31, 2010
there is still time...
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
Sigh.
xero3k - July 31, 2010
Official
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
We still have Twitter
abender20 - July 31, 2010
Not all of us do
Plus it gives a good place to discuss the tweet
Corco - July 31, 2010
I must have missed something.
When did Bradley get hurt?
wazzu93 - July 31, 2010
Dave says it's a made up injury.
SeaKoala - July 31, 2010
To make room for Tui? Blech.
wazzu93 - July 31, 2010
Dave says that a lot
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
We don't need every Tweet that mentions the word Mariners reposted.
abender20 - July 31, 2010
Agreed but notable ones like this are fine
Corco - July 31, 2010
He's a Rangers fan.
abender20 - July 31, 2010
and yet I have been a member of LOL longer than you have...
whats your point exactly?
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
You call it LOL, not LL or LoL
Corco - July 31, 2010
always have
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
Turns out Lookout is one word.
MT Olson - July 31, 2010
I believe it's an LSB thing.
ThundaPC - July 31, 2010
ohh well
all my degrees are in advanced mathematics and I am extremely dyslexic… Shocked I get spelling and punctuation as close as I do
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
This team.
This God damn team.
James F'n X - July 31, 2010
Fuck this shit
Allen Wu - July 31, 2010
Has its own post
Jeff Sullivan - July 31, 2010
interesting timing on sending down though
seems a little odd…
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
Pretty sure Zduriencik is just fucking with us
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
that aint cool if true
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
So the Yankees just took Kerry Wood. What.
Slurvey - July 31, 2010
Or Closing in rather
Slurvey - July 31, 2010
saw that
wonder how much Clev will eat to get that done
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
They have money left over from not signing LeBron.
Slurvey - July 31, 2010
thats cold man
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
Well played.
wyte_lightning - July 31, 2010
Jon Heyman last to know as usual.
SeaKoala - July 31, 2010
cause Boras didn't tell him
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
I was hoping the Reds would deal for him so Dusty Baker could finish breaking him once and for all.
Or, Jim Leyland and the Tigers would have been a good option, given Jose Valverde’s 60-pitch save last night.
thehemogoblin - July 31, 2010
Most interesting note of this entire trade deadline
Nats screwing with CHW to drive the price for TB?
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
Maybe the Nats have an insatiable appetite for a Beckham shortstop and don't care which of the two teams he comes from.
thehemogoblin - July 31, 2010
I'd love to see Adam Dunn playing in the MLS.
Eyeball Kid - July 31, 2010
Mariners and Rainiers play a best-of-5 series, who wins right now?
wyte_lightning - July 31, 2010
The Mariners
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
Mariners, since they've taken most of the Rainiers decent players at this point.
JY - July 31, 2010
What if Pineda pitches?
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
It's a best of five series and we put Felix against Pineda and wade out the rest.
JY - July 31, 2010
THAT would be fun to watch though
Felix v. Pineda
Imagine that, dual no-hitters.
wyte_lightning - July 31, 2010
And then the rest of the series, oh boy.
JY - July 31, 2010
2014!
katal - July 31, 2010
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
What
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
Der?
JY - July 31, 2010
Que?
PLU Tim - July 31, 2010
Meh.
ThundaPC - July 31, 2010
Stupid Jack you're trading the wrong one. Lopez, not Figgins.
SeaKoala - July 31, 2010
doubt it will happen
could be a gage of interest for Aug?
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
huhwha
Corco - July 31, 2010
Suprise!
Marinerfanjake - July 31, 2010
Interesting?
Heyward!
wyte_lightning - July 31, 2010
Boooooooooooooooooooooooo.
wazzu93 - July 31, 2010
kinda what I figured
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
I can't even fathom what would be a fair return
Corco - July 31, 2010
Mike Minor!
Marinerfanjake - July 31, 2010
Crazy Kper9 for a guy with an underwhelming fastball.
Slurvey - July 31, 2010
Didn't he come out of college with quality off-speed pitches?
Those are death to people in the low minors, but real hitters are more adept at dealing with them.
thehemogoblin - July 31, 2010
His fastball as gone up to the 91-94 range
and everything else has improved.
Marinerfanjake - July 31, 2010
If we eat money, something moderately interesting I would think.
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
you'd want value for him but I can't imagine somebody giving enough value to make it worthwhile for us
Corco - July 31, 2010
Not really
If we could give him away without eating too much money it would work out great
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
He's a good player in a bad slump
I feel like we’d benefit more by just keeping him and hoping he rebounds than by trading him for slightly interesting AA pitcher or something
Corco - July 31, 2010
I especially don't want to trade him until he give him a shot at third
Corco - July 31, 2010
I'd rather just hit the undo button and pretend like it never happened
This year confirmed by fears about having Figgins in that I don’t understand how he is a MLB hitter. He probably rebounds but I’m just scared he could be a bit of a bust.
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
I'd agree completely if we had a single other player interrnally to replace him
Corco - July 31, 2010
Liddi!
Eyeball Kid - July 31, 2010
Yeah I don't want to think about how we would replace him...
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
I don't think Mangini's good enough to replace him and Liddi and Triunfel aren't ready yet.
And I think the consensus around the M’s blogosphere is that Jose Lopez should be taken to the glue factory. So, I think taking a shot on Figgins bouncing back is still Seattle’s best shot.
thehemogoblin - July 31, 2010
Heyward
Slurvey - July 31, 2010
Crasnick also says Atlanta is looking for a bullpen arm.
Possible League/Figgins package?
Wilder. - July 31, 2010
I'd rather get rid of Aardsma than League
wyte_lightning - July 31, 2010
Who you think we is goign for ?
Bautista is my guess

wyte_lightning - July 31, 2010

laxtonto - July 31, 2010
It better not be Figlet.
wazzu93 - July 31, 2010
Frustration!
universalguru - July 31, 2010
5 Minutes!
Slurvey - July 31, 2010
The calm before the storm
Corco - July 31, 2010
what would lead to a bigger meltdown
Figgins moved to Atl or Manny to Sea?
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
Manny to sea- any sea really
Corco - July 31, 2010
I would actually kind of like Manny just because entertainment.
But we already have Bradley so…
SeaKoala - July 31, 2010
I think Brady vs. Manny would be worth the price of admission
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
My money's on Milton.
Eyeball Kid - July 31, 2010
depends if this is a with or without needles fight
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
Needles fight? Sounds pricky.
lailaihei - July 31, 2010
OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!
JaaronGriffeyJr - July 31, 2010
Yes, my child?
thehemogoblin - July 31, 2010

Yawn.

Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
Yuck
wyte_lightning - July 31, 2010
Andrew Lambo also in that deal.
drblacknwhite - July 31, 2010
WOW

SeaKoala - July 31, 2010
Gotta get some Dayton Moore action in here.
drblacknwhite - July 31, 2010
and they got junk in return
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
Meh, Dayton Moore!
MFAN - July 31, 2010
I wouldn't say thats junk
Marinerfanjake - July 31, 2010
Its probably fair
Farnsworth and Ankiel are not good
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
He panicked
universalguru - July 31, 2010
Aww now we have Lopez and Tui.
Fuckmikereilly - July 31, 2010
And Asrdsma.
w00tah - July 31, 2010
Whatever his name is.
w00tah - July 31, 2010
Close enough.
Marinerfanjake - July 31, 2010
I don't hate Aardsma though and he has redeeming qualities.
Fuckmikereilly - July 31, 2010
Use the Sinker!!!
universalguru - July 31, 2010
Well this has been dissapointing so far
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
Mariners get even worse while the First Place Padres get a nice player for cheap
It’s a brave new world.
lemonverbena - July 31, 2010
looks like the Rangers made one more deal
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
Baker tweeted that Atlanta approached US about Figgins...
…and that we turned them away?
flashbeak - July 31, 2010 via mobile
Why would we want to sell this low?
JY - July 31, 2010
How much of Figgins contract do you think we were asked to cover?
Edgar for Pres - July 31, 2010
Doesn't matter, there's reason to believe he's still a valuable asset.
This year sucks but I haven’t lost faith that he’ll be good for us.
BrettJMiller - July 31, 2010
And by us/we, I mean Z.
flashbeak - July 31, 2010 via mobile
I can't imagine anyone offering us anything that would be close to fair right now
OlSalty - July 31, 2010
If Atlanta comes and offers next to nothing and asks Z to eat salary, he did the right thing.
If Atlanta comes and offers Jason Heyward, he did the wrong thing.
Since we have no idea what was discussed, let’s just go ahead and freak out everywhere.
abender20 - July 31, 2010
I'm going to assume they offered Prado because it's funnier that way
Aaron Campeau - July 31, 2010
Lame.
OlSalty - July 31, 2010
Frustrating but not too surprising
We didn’t have much that we wouldn’t be selling low on.
