And then on the Kotchman homer, “Well, that’s what happens when you throw a fastball right down the middle, but apparently that’s what he has to do to get it called a strike.”
That requires the team to go 28-53 in the last 81 games. Good for a .346 winning percentage. Even though Vargas and Fister pitched better than expected and even though we had Cliff Lee we spent the month of May wasting those performances so getting less out of those spots doesn’t automatically mean our record will get will get worse.
This also means we some how play worse than the 2008 team (which had a 12-game losing streak in September). No way is this team is worse than 2008.

As atrocious as that was, Bonderman had an even more legitimate gripe.

I mean, shit.

He's just trolling the league now

Just ignore him. He's just trying to make you kick dirt on his shoes

The Detroit feed was hilarious for that pitch.

Niehaus was pretty hilarious on the radio during that whole thing, too.
I love it when Niehaus gets mean and borderline vindictive on the air, does my heart good.

There's a typo in this post
It says the Mariners scored eight (8!) runs.
Jamee999 - July 4, 2010
The !
Is showing surprise. Not factorial. Just to clarify. We did not score 8! runs
Jamee999 - July 4, 2010
Yes, that would be about 40,320 runs.
That would be a surprise indeed.

It was a nice swift game.
ignacio - July 4, 2010
You have to wonder if the lineup was purposely saving their run support for Cliff Lee.
Fin - July 4, 2010
Washburn is jealous
IlliniM - July 4, 2010
In the last 3 Cliff Lee starts the Mariners lineup has scored 23 runs
They are starting to score to get Cliff to stay next start they probably score 12 or 13 for the guy
IHateYouRobJohnson - July 4, 2010
Have scored is what that should have said*
IHateYouRobJohnson - July 4, 2010
No wait that was right the first time my mistake

81 games = halfway through the season
Mariners have won 34 games. This is with Vargas and Fister pitching better than expected + Cliff Lee at his best.
Will they lose 100 games?
ignacio - July 4, 2010
No
Tamuzi - July 4, 2010
I think they're a .500 team the rest of the way out, even after the downgrade from Lee to Bedard/whatever we get back from Lee
BigR - July 4, 2010
No.
