So we got swept by the Royals. I'm rather nonplussed by the whole affair. Am I supposed to care? Why should I care at this point about wins and losses? I get why the team cares, why the players care, but I don't care. If I cared, this would be a lot tougher to go through. I certainly have a preference still to see wins rather than losses, but that's mostly because wins have a higher correlation with our players doing well. I want our players to do well.
Casey Kotchman hit two home runs and Michael Saunders drew two walks yesterday. Good for that. The team lost in large part because of the whole Brandon League mess and I'm frankly tired of the Brandon League mess. I'm tired of all the seemingly self caused messes this team gets itself into. Stop screwing up, Mariners. Just stop it.
Thu Jul 08, 17:10: Jason Vargas* vs. Andy Pettitte*
I love Cliff Lee's BB rating on each of his individual pitches. The only pitch he doesn't throw for strikes better than anyone else is his curve ball, which he uses to get ground balls better than anyone else.
I guess we came some shoulder discomfort away from having the privilege of throwing Lee-Felix-Bedard at the Yankees for the final three games before the All Star break. That would have been neat I guess. Instead, Hyphen takes the last start before the mandatory three day stoppage of play. Don't leave a bitter memory in my mind, please Ryan. I still need a reason to continue watching if/once Cliff Lee is traded.

If the Yankees want Lee
Now would be an excellent time for them to make a deal.
david h - July 8, 2010
That would be retarded
Snuffleupagus - July 8, 2010
I'm hoping for the rumored Smoak deal
I imagine given Texas’ ownership issues that they’d also need some cash to be sent along and a new first basemen to replace Smoak. A Lee+cash+Branyan for Smoak + some other stuff like maybe Saltalamacchia, which the Rangers have seemed to have given up on, and maybe another medium prospect thrown in. The M’s would then have 4 switch hitters in the lineup. and a probable decent to very good first basemen for the next 6 years or so. :-) Would be an awesome trade. :-)
TIFO - July 8, 2010
I just want Lee to be traded already
Now that talks are getting serious the last thing I want is for him to get hurt.
OceanBird - July 8, 2010
In the unlikely event that the Rangers trade Smoak
they’ll replace him with Chris Davis. Adding in Branyan would be unnecessary. Giving Salty a try is an interesting idea.
Rollo Tomasi - July 8, 2010
Can we please stay on topic? There is a Lee trade thread for this sort of stuff.
This is about the Yankees/Mariners series in which two teams from different coasts will play baseball.
abender20 - July 8, 2010
Sheesh
I thought my comment was more relevant to the series preview than a trade speculation/rumor threat, as in the Yankees have the difficult task of facing Lee on Friday, as noted in the preview, so they’d get an extra bonus by acquiring him in the next 24 hours, which deal would also keep Lee relevant to the preview by altering the quality of staff and stuff the Mariners are up against.
david h - July 8, 2010
My response was to you, but really it was aimed at the subthread spawned from your comment.
By itself your comment was indeed related and innocuous.
abender20 - July 8, 2010
If the Yankee's are 4th in this RAA metric
who are numbers 1-3?
Trev - July 8, 2010
Is anyone else as surprised as I am that our bullpen is 29th?
seattlecougar - July 8, 2010
Yeah I'm surprised as well.
Surprised that they’re not 30th.
wyte_lightning - July 8, 2010
D-Backs?
tait644 - July 8, 2010
The D-Backs bullpen has been like an entire bullpen of Sean Whites.
Fuckmikereilly - July 8, 2010
No

RRS vs. Sabathia again
GOODY GUMDROPS!
sanford_and_son - July 8, 2010
Someone needs to leave a freshly baked apple pie on top of the dugout
Sabathia will be paying more attention to the delicious treat than the Mariners’ batters.
OceanBird - July 8, 2010
Does this mean Vargas loses his lesbian powers?
