The M's are off, so the Rainiers are on, tonight at 7pm. With Michael Pineda on the hill, and Justin Smoak, Matt Mangini, Greg Halman, and Dustin Ackley all in the lineup, there's more hope there than there is up here.
Note that Josh Lueke should be available to throw today too after taking yesterday off.
Reno has one player in its lineup today who is younger than 26.

wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
I'm still baffled as to why Wilson is batting 9th
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
I DIDN'T KNOW WAK WAS MANAGING TACOMA
SeaKoala - August 2, 2010
Ha, yeah, last night it was Halman 8th and Wilson 9th.
flashbeak - August 2, 2010
Yuck
That seems less than ideal
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
I wish this game was on FSN instead of the Beavers
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
You only have so many more opportunities to complain about this.
JY - August 2, 2010
Does anyone else get a waiting for video message box when they click on the Tacoma audio link?
I’ve never been able to listen to the Tacoma feed but the visitors feed always works fine.
wazzu93 - August 2, 2010
Mine is working fine
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Weird.
I’ve tried the Tacoma feed half a dozen times this year and it always gives me a video message. Listening to Reno right now :(
wazzu93 - August 2, 2010
Strange
This is the first time I’ve used it. It opened up Windows Media Player and started playing audio right away. Oh the soothing voice of Curto… Is the Reno broadcast not that good?
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
No, the announcer's fine. Just would rather listen to Curto. No biggie.
wazzu93 - August 2, 2010
At least you get to listen to a third party's opinion on our prospects?
I’m stretching for positives…
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
I also am listening to Reno
because the Tacoma feed is not working for me.
Paul AB - August 2, 2010
For the audio feed, I get
Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help.
Paul AB - August 2, 2010
I have the same problem.
It’s not as big of a deal, as I can just turn on a radio, but I’m glad it’s not just me. I’ll tell them about this – not sure if this is a problem with MiLB.com or the Rainiers.
marc w - August 2, 2010
I think it's hilarious that it works fine for a fella in England. :)
wazzu93 - August 2, 2010
Baseball!
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010

The future is now!
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
Is it wierd that I'm more excited for Pineda's starts now than I am for Felix's?
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
It's your new toy at Christmas
ClosetCoug - August 2, 2010
Then Rob Johnson is the pair of socks that my aunt that I never talk to got me
Oh, and they’re wrapped in newspaper.
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
And the socks...
…don’t fit AND get a hole in them the first time you put them on.
rtang - August 2, 2010
AND
tend to allow pitches that should be cleanly and easily caught to skitter to the backstop to die a slow, painful and unearned-run allowing death.
THolt - August 3, 2010
Felix represents a possible win in a lost season.
Pineda represents possible future wins in possible seasons that matter.
It’s only natural to be more excited about Pineda.
lailaihei - August 2, 2010
Felix also represents possible future wins in possible seasons that matter
Jeff Sullivan - August 2, 2010
FUCK YOU
Robert - August 2, 2010 via mobile
Woodward has an oddly shaped face

It sounds like everyone big is at the game tonight.

Is anyone on Reno a remotely interesting prospect... besides Brandon Allen I guess?
flashbeak - August 2, 2010
Perfect game... gone.
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
So Reno has a dude...
named Ed Rodgers who is Dominican.
PLU Tim - August 2, 2010
Who is Reno affiliated with?
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Arizona.
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
Thanks
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Diamondbacks
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Typical Halman
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
*Surprised face*
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Halman
7 consecutive strikeouts.
Paul AB - August 2, 2010
Wow, seven straight strikeouts for Halman
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Ackley!
Allen Wu - August 2, 2010
Ack-Attack!
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
Ackley channeling Figgins in that atbat
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
*which I am okay with
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
You mean Figgins
Before he was moved from his proper fielding position and place in the order. Good Figgins.
ClosetCoug - August 2, 2010
His proper place in the order?
What does that have to do with anything?
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Let's not rehash this.
Fuckmikereilly - August 2, 2010
Cutting out the first sentence would've saved you some time.
ThundaPC - August 2, 2010
No I meant Figgins.
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
I know, right? Ichiro should stop being so selfish and let Figgins lead off.
flashbeak - August 2, 2010
Clutch K!
Allen Wu - August 2, 2010

Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010

Wipeout Slider!
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
Woo swinging strikes!
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Guys what happened
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Was there a strikeout, like Gameday said?
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Yes, on a slider
Allen Wu - August 2, 2010
I'm pretty sure he was just saying that because Gameday said it, we shouldn't.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Jam no more!
flashbeak - August 2, 2010
BUNT BUNT BUNT
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Are we sure that Wak isn't managing the Rainiers as well??
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Daren Brown is apparently a candidate to replace Wakamatsu
So, you know. There’s another prospect to watch, I guess.
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
So, I've never been to Cheney. Is it as pitcher-friendly as it appears to be?
flashbeak - August 2, 2010
Yes. Very.
It’s pretty damned massive. CF is 425 away and has a huge wall, so only 2 hitters have ever hit one out to CF. The alleys are deep and the weather make it really tough to hit HRs. It also increases Ks.
Every once in a while, the wind blows straight out, but unless it’s doing that, it takes work to get a home run.
marc w - August 2, 2010
Pulling double duty!
I’m appreciating the USSM posts marc. I just don’t post there any more
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
I hope you get to enjoy the game a bit in between updates.
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Pineda's making that quite easy I imagine.
Aaaaaand right on cue, a tripe.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Tripe I say!
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Which, according to SC, is twice as unlikely in Cheney as everywhere else in the PCL!
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Well it is the Northwest
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
Off Wilson's glove, though
Would’ve been a great catch, but it went right into the corner in foul territory.
marc w - August 2, 2010
Is Wilson closer to Carlos Lee or Nelson Cruz?
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Used to be the former, now it's more the latter.
He’s been pretty solid in the games I’ve seen. He’s got more speed than you’d expect and that helps make up for some so-so jumps. This play was just terrible luck.
He used to be known as a true defensive black hole, like Victor Diaz bad. He’s not, at least not anymore. But that’s obviously damning with very faint praise.
marc w - August 2, 2010
Still good to hear about a guy with a big bat and a medical file like the OED
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
It suppresses homers and maybe walks, Statcorner has more detailed factors.
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Here's the
link.
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Another leadoff walk goes to waste.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
5!
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Ah, poo.
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
At least it was a legitimate prospect
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
True.
And he was able to work his way out of it, so that’s a positive.
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Yeah he seems to bear down well with runners in scoring position
Hard to say the way I’m watching but it seems like he goes for the punchout pitching up in the zone and when guys get on starts spotting his stuff down and in. Shades of young Felix.
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Defense!
A tasty play!
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
It's really annoying how the adverts are so much louder than the broadcast.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
I just mute until I see action on Gameday.
SeaKoala - August 2, 2010
I was just thinking the same thing
GET OUT OF MY HEAD!
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
It feel SO low that our "future" prospects are our ONLY chance for saving us in the future.
(dam you mariners). dam you.
scooter4 - August 2, 2010
BEES!?!
Slurvey - August 2, 2010
8 straight for Halman
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
Imagine the kinds of records he could set in the MLB.
On that note, what would his MLB line look like if he made 600 PAs next season?
350 Ks, 50 BBs, 20 HRs, and like a .120/.200/.400 line?
lailaihei - August 2, 2010
Also known as 2010 Jose Lopez.
Just as good as 2010 Jose Lopez with a .120 avg.
lailaihei - August 2, 2010
Wow I tuned in just in time for a Halman strike out.
What are the odds?
thewyrm - August 2, 2010
Somewhere between 0 and 100%
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
I bet it's closer to 100 than it is to 0 though.
thewyrm - August 2, 2010
No need to bet.
fluffylamps - August 2, 2010
There are 18 batters in this game
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
I just looked up Halman's birthday, wanting to be reassured that he still has a lot of time to learn restraint
He was born in August of 87, so I thought oh, whew he’s still just a kid – plenty of time. Then I remembered what year it is.
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Yeah I was born in 87 too.
And, much like Halman, I too am having to deal with the fact that I may never turn into a real major league player.
wetzelcoal - August 2, 2010
You need to learn to check your swing homie
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
DAMMIT
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
Fuck
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Aww nuts
Allen Wu - August 2, 2010
Dammit Yuniesky you continue to haunt us
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
Bust. Morrow 2.0
Trade him for a reliever.
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Whats going on you guys? Are we winning? like our Mariners do on a constantly basis.
scooter4 - August 2, 2010
We're winning so hard
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Let's throw him between MLB relief, MLB rotation, and AAA rotation a few times first.
lailaihei - August 2, 2010
Awww....
:( Dammit…
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
FUCK YOU BAVASI!!!
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Looks like we're going to need to score more than 1 run today.
ThundaPC - August 2, 2010
How has Smoak looked?
I’d much rather Smoak’s confidence is ruined in the Majors than AAA…Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I shouldn’t fucking worry.
OceanBird - August 2, 2010
Fucking damit!
Allen Wu - August 2, 2010
This isn't going to plan at all.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Well shit, Pineda
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
God dammit
fluffylamps - August 2, 2010
Oh balls.
JoshF - August 2, 2010
Well looks like he is finally ready to pitch for the Mariners.
wetzelcoal - August 2, 2010
Oh Rahlz.
ThundaPC - August 2, 2010
Too much pressure
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
This really is like listening to the Mariners
Yay future!
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Everything's up.
fluffylamps - August 2, 2010
Not everything....
:(
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Now would be a great time to break up this no-hitter.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Time for an Aaaa-bomb from Aaaackley
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Thanks Mike!
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Oh shit, an error!
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
It was an error
fluffylamps - August 2, 2010
It's kind of funny that I am watching this game in part because I am so sick of watching the Ms
and… yeah I don’t need to recap.
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
How is this funny.
Drew_D - August 2, 2010
Irony
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
it IS like looking at the Mariners. NOOOOOOOOO.
scooter4 - August 2, 2010
Yunebomber!
ThundaPC - August 2, 2010
Dustin Ackley sure looks happy
in his gameday photo.
Slow Country - August 2, 2010
Pretty straight teeth.
fluffylamps - August 2, 2010
And damned handsome.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
We will have a damn pretty team when he comes up.
Its only a matter of time until we get the Mariners swimsuit calender promotion.
wetzelcoal - August 2, 2010
Eliezer Alonzo on the other hand...
Slow Country - August 2, 2010
Walkley!
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Wrong outcome Ackley
You need to hit the ball!
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
OBP!
wetzelcoal - August 2, 2010
You can't walk your way off the island!
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Uh...This Kroenke guy
he’s a reliever. How embarrassing.
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
I feel like Kroenke is an easy name to make fun of
but I got nothing.
Slow Country - August 2, 2010
When I hear it I think of Graffix bong hits in college.
wazzu93 - August 2, 2010
This team is turning me into a Kroenke old man
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
Kroenke my arm!
Like Steve Irwin… yes, no?
Slow Country - August 2, 2010
Too soon?
Slow Country - August 2, 2010
Aaahh, the first-pitch popup.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Runners on 1st and 2nd, no outs
Popup, popup….
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
At the game
Looks like Lopez got in it with Z in the pregame intros. Not sure why they were both here but blood was defiantly drawn.
Robert - August 2, 2010 via mobile
If this was actually real you people would really have egg on your face.
Robert - August 3, 2010
Mariners!
ThundaPC - August 2, 2010
GOD

wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
IT'S CONTAGIOUS!
fluffylamps - August 2, 2010
On the bright side, it's Little League World Series time-yay!
wazzu93 - August 2, 2010
What's this?
I thought Pineda was on a short leash today.
Bearskin Rugburn - August 2, 2010
They'll probably let him get to 85-90 pitches
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
I'm guessing he's done now
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Pretty solid inning.
Shame he’s at his count.
SeattExPat - August 2, 2010
He's usually gone 80-85 pitches when I've 'watched' him
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Pretty exciting to see him working deep.
SeattExPat - August 2, 2010
Shawn Kelley!
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Don't tease me
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
He's warming up!
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Base hit!
fluffylamps - August 2, 2010
Woooooooo
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
FINALLY some kind of rally. (Not like you Mariners).
scooter4 - August 2, 2010
I am not the Mariners.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Are you sure?
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Please score a run.
I don’t think I could handle a third shutout game thread.
wetzelcoal - August 2, 2010
FUCK YOU YUNESKY
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Yunesky strikes again!
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
What AGAIN. This sucks BALLS.
scooter4 - August 2, 2010
Please tell me more
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
If we stop watching then they will score runs!
Marinerfanjake - August 2, 2010
Jesus Christ, Greg.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
This is reality. Just like our DAM Mariners. I'am so PISSED off right now at the Rainers for
being like our FREAKING MAriners. God kill me NOW.
scooter4 - August 2, 2010
You should have a cocktail.
wazzu93 - August 2, 2010
You may be overreacting.
Slow Country - August 2, 2010
Yes how dare they have a bad night...
THEY’RE IN FIRST PLACE. THE RAINIERS ARE IN FIRST PLACE. If you’re going to constantly bitch and overreact, please do it elsewhere.
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
I'am sorry for overrecting today. it kills me inside to continue to see our Rainers be
like our Mariners constantly throwing away chances. Again sorry.
scooter4 - August 2, 2010
It's hard with the Mariners so hopeless,
to then turn on a Tacoma game and see them losing to and forget the context. But I think they can come alive here yet.
SeattExPat - August 2, 2010
Plus,
Reno blows.
SeattExPat - August 2, 2010
Shawn the mawn!
Slow Country - August 2, 2010
KKelley!
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
I try and take some solace in our AAA team being loaded with prospects
And they start sucking too! I’m starting to think Bavasi must’ve seriously pissed off a Nigerian witch doctor somewhere along the line.
Tophawkeye - August 2, 2010
I agree with the guy in the audience
who just yelled, “come on, Carp!”
SeattExPat - August 2, 2010
Carp came on!
Carp came on!
SeattExPat - August 2, 2010
Yay
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Dustin Ackley is sexy as shit.
Slow Country - August 2, 2010
Looks good over gameday.
SeattExPat - August 2, 2010
Not so good.
SeattExPat - August 2, 2010
Ackley K?
That’s unusual.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
51 k's in 424 appearances.
Pr
SeattExPat - August 2, 2010
I concur
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Yeah! Take one for the team!
Allen Wu - August 2, 2010
We are going to lose this game.
I predict.
Slow Country - August 2, 2010
Ah, I missed good Shawn
Darn.
Drew_D - August 2, 2010
Too bad Levale Speignar is terrible.
He has a cool name.
Slow Country - August 2, 2010
!
Speigner family blog!
Wasn’t expecting this when I googled him.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
What the fuck.
Sell.
SeattExPat - August 2, 2010
Great find, by the way.
SeattExPat - August 2, 2010
Interesting, yet creepy.
I’m not sure I want to know so much about him, especially with all the pictures.
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Apparently the Speigner's and the Feierabend's are good friends
Families with unusual last names unite!
wyte_lightning - August 2, 2010
Ry-Fy's wife Sarah took one of the pictures for the Speigners.
If they were’nt good friends, that would be an interesting coincidence.
Slica - August 2, 2010
Yeah, all the baby photos made me a little hesitant to post it
but, without wanting to violate site rules, his wife makes Mike Sweeney look like a damned heathen.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Zomg no kidding.
wazzu93 - August 2, 2010
Man,
I’m following the Rainiers from now on. I don’t remember the last time I was this relaxed listening to a ballgame.
SeattExPat - August 2, 2010
I think it might because you don't have Rizzs blaring fake excitement at you.
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Don't you remember how great the 1995 Rainiers were?
wazzu93 - August 2, 2010
Not a strikeout!
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
GO ACKLEY
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
It's Ackley time!
Allen Wu - August 2, 2010

Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010

wazzu93 - August 2, 2010

fluffylamps - August 2, 2010
Well I'll be.
wazzu93 - August 2, 2010
Alfonzo!
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Send him up to the bigs!
fluffylamps - August 2, 2010
Aww :(
Still 4 and half games up!
Eyeball Kid - August 2, 2010
Curto talking about how Pineda is getting Mariner's Offense'd
Slurvey - August 2, 2010
Some things never change

I'll be honest, given a choice between a MLB game and a minor-league game
I’ll take the minor league game.
For the price of a seat in a ML park, you could go see a minor league game and live like a king. Better bang for the buck and a much better chance of meeting a player and chatting with them if you’ve got a seat close to the dugout.
