This hardly seems fair. I guess we couldn't keep playing teams worse than us for the rest of the season. For whatever it is worth, if the Mariners continue to win 66% of their games for the remainder of the season then they will finish with 75 wins.
When the season first begins, I bemoan how fast the games seem to go by. By game eight you are just sort of getting used to baseball being on and the season is already 5% over! Oh no. You know absolutely nothing by the end of April and it's about 20% completed. This isn't fair. And then somewhere between then and now, it shifts into the repetitive and usual and I find myself frankly shocked that there are still as many as 41 games left to play. What do you mean there's a whole quarter of the season left?
I have never seen a pitch chart like Burnett's. See, you don't need three pitches to be a starter. You just need good pitches.
I already found it funny that Javier Vazquez got so much flak from New York fans for his performance there in 2004 but for some reason I find it funnier that he's actually bad this season. Burnett has only been about average as well, but CC has been his usual self. Too bad he has to take the hill opposite Luke French. Poor CC never had a chance.

So Luke French needs to throw his sinker 100% of the time?
CMC_Stags - August 20, 2010
This is going to be horrific.
Eyeball Kid - August 20, 2010
I'm kind of shocked that the Yankees are only 5th overall. Do you think that there's four teams that are legitimately better than them, or is it all kind of a wash at the top?
Decatur - August 20, 2010
It certainly looks like there are no fewer than four teams which have so far
performed better, in aggregate. If your question is whether there are four teams which are more talented then that’s a different story. My inexpert opinion is that no, there are no teams in baseball more talented than the Yankees, although a couple are probably close.
Bearskin Rugburn - August 20, 2010
The Rays, Padres and Rangers (teams 2-4) are just a handful of runs better than the Yankees so far.
The Twins are miles ahead of anyone. They’ve been otherworldly.

@TheRealMariners #Mariners line-up at New York.
Janic - August 20, 2010
So you're saying there's a chance?

GOOD THING LOPEZ IS STILL BATTING CLEANUP
Matt Erickson - August 20, 2010
I'm so fucking sick of this
I would be so happy if I never saw another comment about Lopez batting 4th
BaronVonBullshit - August 20, 2010
Wait, are you sick of bad lineups?
Or are you frustrated that people keep bringing it up?
MT Olson - August 20, 2010
Well both... but I was talking about people bringing it up
Seems like they think by moving him out of cleanup we will suddenly be good? I know, lets put Ichiro at 4th
BaronVonBullshit - August 20, 2010
Or anyone better than Lopez, like, say,
Figgins, Saunders, Kotchman, or even Josh Wilson.
All have better wOBAs.

Glad your Caps Lock button still works!
CMC_Stags - August 20, 2010
Baker tweeted that Saunders is a "healthy" scratch.
Trying not to overreact here, but is Brown really giving ABs to Tui at Saunders’ expense?
Really?
tait644 - August 20, 2010
Well there goes my injury theory.
Thingray - August 20, 2010
Gotta go with the hot bat.
Eyeball Kid - August 20, 2010
Burnett's pitch % just made me realize that it doesn't always equal 100%.
My world has been shattered.
ralphie81 - August 20, 2010
4% OF THE TIME HE DOESN'T THROW A PITCH AT ALL
HOW IS THAT FAIR?
HititHere - August 20, 2010
Lots and lots of balks.
thebyron - August 20, 2010
I don't list pitch types that are thrown less than 5% of the time
Matthew - August 20, 2010
So Brandon League's pitch chart would be just 1 line?

No Saunders, and Lopez at #4?
Uggghhh. Even if I accept the sad fact that Lopez is gonna get good playing time the rest of the year, why keep Saunders out of the lineup? Too many LH bats if he’s there? Is it as simple as not having a place to put Tui if Saunders is in LF and Lopez is in the IF? Is it that Saunders has shown enough to make the team next year, so its more important to give Tui time to prove himself this season?
NWade - August 20, 2010
I think Saunders is still battling an injury.
Thingray - August 20, 2010
If not then this is stupid.
Slurvey - August 20, 2010
Daren Brown thinks of Tui as his son
you would bench your own son? What kind of parent are you?
Bearskin Rugburn - August 20, 2010
This is why I hope to never coach.
Sec 108 - August 20, 2010
According to Baker's latest tweet then, survey says...
Stupid!
ralphie81 - August 20, 2010
I don't think Tui should get AB's at the expense of Saunders,
but you do have to admit he’s swinging a hot bat right now.
Thingray - August 20, 2010
Two games=Hot stretch?
Slurvey - August 20, 2010
I don't know that I'd call it a "stretch",
but with as well as he hit the last two games, why would you bench him?
Thingray - August 20, 2010
It was in Camden against Baltimore and I would if Saunders is healthy and we're facing a RHP.
Slurvey - August 20, 2010
Let's see:
CMC_Stags - August 20, 2010
Though I'd be willing to give Lopez the day off and play Tui at 3B
Then give Tui starts at 1B or DH against Sabathia instead of Kotchman or Branyan.
CMC_Stags - August 20, 2010
All valid points.
And if Saunders is healthy he should be in there. But it would be nice to let Tui keep playing as well. Give Lopez the day off or something.
Thingray - August 20, 2010
Also - Lopez and Kotchman have no future in Seattle
tait644 - August 20, 2010
Aaaaaand I see the hot bat comment has already been made.
Eyeball Kid - August 20, 2010
Has the hitting with oven mitts comment been made yet?
Sec 108 - August 20, 2010
Yeah - I'm no longer rooting for Daren Brown.
tait644 - August 20, 2010
I don't get why Jose Lopez is still on this team and why Tui is taking AB's from Saunders apparently instead of taking AB's from Lopez
OlSalty - August 20, 2010
Neither do I
Dewey N - August 20, 2010
Because Shannon Drayer likes Lopie
And although people tend to criticize Lincoln and Armstrong, its Drayer who’s secretly been pulling the strings all along. She’s the cunning evil mastermind that we’ve never suspected!
NWade - August 20, 2010
He should be DFAed now
