I like when people use arbitrary dates where someone got yelled at as evidence that yelling at people works
He has gotten better, yeah: We expected him to get better because he has a history of being pretty good but has been awful this year. The same thing happened after Wak called Felix out last year in the media and to a lesser extent this year with him as well when he had that awful May, and now it’s happening with Figgins. Good players playing poorly tend to get yelled at because they’re expected to produce and they aren’t, then they tend to get better because of regression, then everyone looks at it like all they needed was a kick in the ass to make them start performing again. I don’t buy it.
What do you think about the Brandon League / Brandon Morrow trade now?
Brandon Morrow just pitched the best game this year in the majors with a 100 game score, better than Roy Halladay’s perfect game with a game score of 98.
Graham’s post on the deal (when he was a contributing writer here) said “Morrow for League + Johermyn Chavez…sucks.”
There was a lot of pent up frustration with Morrow’s inconsistency and back-and-forth ‘twixt pen and rotation (which is, granted, mostly the Bavasi organization, but early 2009 was all on Brandon), but in general the the blogs were puzzled by the move—some contributors loved it, some hated it, most just didn’t understand it in a standalone context.
But, hey, we got League and we live with the deal. Guess what? League has the stuff to be pretty filthy out of the pen. Whether he puts it all together again (see: 2009) is up in the air, but then again so was Morrow reaching his potential. I’m one of the few ardent fans of Brandon Morrow, still follow him with the Jays, but for fuck’s sake it’s in the past. Don’t misrepresent the blog or the community writ large. I like League. I hope to be happy with him. I also like Morrow.
If you want to evaluate the trade in context, okay. But don’t judge it in hindsight. It’s fucking annoying, and even I’m getting sick of it.
Huh, funny how everyone viewed Chavez as "nothing"
I mean, he has ridiculous home splits, strikes out too much and doesn’t have much defensive value, but he could crack our top 10 prospects going into next year (barely).
Makes me wonder if the guys we gave up for Branyan are really “nothing.” Hmm…
We'll always have Grass Creek...
Fuckmikereilly - August 8, 2010
Actually the Royals won the season series :(
Eyeball Kid - August 8, 2010
For the 3rd straight year.
ThundaPC - August 8, 2010
Grass Creek is in jeopardy!
JY - August 8, 2010
We have stickers in Grass Creek.
joof - August 8, 2010
We need more, I think.
JY - August 8, 2010
Just 30 games away from .500!
M'sFanatic - August 8, 2010
Dangit, we missed another opportunity to gain on Baltimore in the Rendon sweepstakes.
ARock - August 8, 2010
OH NO
Jeff Sullivan - August 8, 2010
I think FUCK YOU
would have been more appropriate here, but that’s just me.
Kouvre - August 8, 2010
Is Rendon better than Bryce Harper? If we draft him, how far is he from the Major League?
brian_sun - August 8, 2010
SHUUUUTT UUUUUUUPP
Eyebrows - August 8, 2010
I don't think he knows any better but he's been inadvertantly trolling us an awful lot.
JY - August 8, 2010
I hope Anthony Rendon falls down the stairs and breaks his neck
Jeff Sullivan - August 8, 2010
That would hurt
beastwarking - August 8, 2010
Yeah you wish
Dewey N - August 8, 2010
I will go build some substandard stairs in his apartment
pdb - August 8, 2010
4
Dewey N - August 8, 2010
So is Rendon the only player available in next year's draft or something?
tait644 - August 8, 2010
He's the most god damn annoying if that's what you mean
Jeff Sullivan - August 8, 2010
I'm actually concerned some people think he's the only player available. I mean shit, people - we are going to get a talented ballplayer.
tait644 - August 8, 2010
So out of the six starters in this series only Zack Greinke gets beat up.
Baseball!
ThundaPC - August 8, 2010
Sorry about my bad grammar you guys. I really need to think before i post.
I’ll stop postng until my grammar and writing for that matter improves dramatically.

Is there any hope for Chone Figgins to get back to a 2 WAR player this year?
brian_sun - August 8, 2010
Yes
Jeff Sullivan - August 8, 2010
I don't think so. He would have to up his SLG by almost 100 points
to get to 400. It’s too late in the season for him to do that.
brian_sun - August 8, 2010
He could also simply bring his UZR up a bit while continuing to hit.
Fuckmikereilly - August 8, 2010
He could argue with Wak more also; Larry Stone reported that since the dugout incident with manager Don Wakamatsu
Chone Figgins has hit .407 (24-for-59.) I am sure his OPS must also be up there in the 900-1000 range.
brian_sun - August 8, 2010

OlSalty - August 8, 2010
If that was the case, Bobby Knight would have won a lot more national championships.
“I’ll run you till you can’t eat fucking supper…”
RustyJohn - August 8, 2010
Why would he have to do it just by upping his SLG?
He could play better defense or make better contact or what have you.
OlSalty - August 8, 2010
And he's done +1 WAR a month before
OlSalty - August 8, 2010
Why did you ask us a question
Jeff Sullivan - August 8, 2010
Why did you bother asking a question to which you already knew the answer?
seattlebruin - August 9, 2010
LATE
Jeff Sullivan - August 9, 2010
So, so late =(

seattlebruin - August 9, 2010

Dewey N - August 8, 2010
There is always hope.
MT Olson - August 8, 2010
No.
Robert - August 9, 2010
I think it would be interesting to look at Figgins OPS from the left side as the season has progressed.
I think that it has gotten much better.

Nope, just a rumor

I hope Brandon Morrow dies of aids.
Goose - August 8, 2010
Wow, I didn't know that! Now would you like some apple pie? There's no poison in it, I swear!
Allen Wu - August 8, 2010
What on earth?
Jeff Sullivan - August 8, 2010
Yeah, that doesn't make any sense at all, does it?
Allen Wu - August 8, 2010
Have you ever threatened anybody before?
Jeff Sullivan - August 8, 2010
I thought the apple had the poison in it in the story, I didn't realize the Queen made a fucking pie.
RustyJohn - August 8, 2010
Not seriously, no. I prefer positive encouragement.
Allen Wu - August 8, 2010
"You're doing a good job of beating my ass. Keep it up"
russak - August 8, 2010
This is my favorite comment ever.
I feel like this belongs in a Naked Gun movie.
MT Olson - August 8, 2010
I think absolutely no differently of the trade now than I did at the time.
Fuckmikereilly - August 8, 2010
I love the fact that both Brandon League and Brandon Morrow currently have the exact same win/loss record.
ThundaPC - August 8, 2010
AND we got a prospect
WIN!
Fuckmikereilly - August 8, 2010
First it was "Oh noes Morrow instead of Lincecum!!!" Now it's "Oh noes League instead of Morrow!!!"
It’s a meme within a meme :-)
TIFO - August 8, 2010
Like Inception.

Also, the thread before that, everyone was worried that J.P. Arencibia may have been the prospect
Boy would that have sucked.
Fuckmikereilly - August 9, 2010
I think that the trade is slightly less annoying then you are.
Robert - August 9, 2010
But that trade wasn't all that bad
seattlebruin - August 9, 2010
Brandon Morrow has become Nolan Ryan while Brandon League has to wear a bib while eating mashed potatoes.
Robert - August 9, 2010
Are you an Indians fan or what?
This seems to indicate you are, yet you are only a member of the Mariners and Red Sox blogs
