The Rainiers lost last night, and this afternoon start Yusmeiro Petit against Brett Tomko. Brett Tomko. It's really going to happen like this.
First pitch down at Safeco is scheduled for 12pm. Get your Gameday here, and your audio here. It's kind of a bummer that they don't have PITCHfx turned on for this. On the other hand, doing that might make Petit feel kind of embarrassed.

Hey thanks
for posting the audio link! Granted I’m super lazy, but I hadn’t realized I could listen. Gracias.
MarinerHousewife - September 11, 2010
Still using Smoke on the Water >:(
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
Jesus I am sick of Brett Tomko already.
Joe Metro - September 11, 2010
I don
Double06 - September 11, 2010
Yeah, so, everybody disregard this comment.
Nothing to see here.
Double06 - September 11, 2010
SoDo Mojo is a bad thing this year.
Why did they have to play at Safeco?
truemsfan - September 11, 2010
Please don't ban me or flag me
but I’ve got photos up at the USSM liveblog.
More of a photoblog today because you all have gameday.
Comment to make me feel a bit less bluebird banter. Or maybe I’ll just comment here.

Yay pictures
Greg Halman is a badass in that first one, the other two, not so much.
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
Hey, the last one is the first hit of the game!
It’s not exactly a 500 foot HR, but the R’s have two hits in this game. It was a decent swing.
marc w - September 11, 2010
Oh right, I thought it was a foul ball.
I don’t think it qualifies as badass though. Unless he still has those sunglasses on.
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
Fair points all around.
marc w - September 11, 2010
I'm going to visit this link and spend more time clicking ads on USSM instead of LL!
Double06 - September 11, 2010
Sweet, that means we might be able to eat in the near future.
JY - September 11, 2010
Oh jeez, if Jeff's prediction is going to happen the Rainiers better get on Tomko in the 7th!
BaronVonBullshit - September 11, 2010
Not necessarily.
The RiverCats look like they’re turning to Travis Blackley again. I think the postulate would be confirmed if they beat the RiverCats in a game that both Tomko and Blackley pitch (even if the former doesn’t get the loss).
marc w - September 11, 2010
Good enough for me
BaronVonBullshit - September 11, 2010
We'll call this 'weak Sullivan equilibrium' versus 'strong Sullivan equilibrium' if Tomko himself gets the loss.
marc w - September 11, 2010
Ejected before he got to the ump?
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
He got to him...or near him.
It’s technically a ball/strike call, so I kind of understand.
marc w - September 11, 2010
What was he arguing?
I can’t listen to the audio, just have gameday
BaronVonBullshit - September 11, 2010
Basically, Wimberly checks his swing on a pitch that hit his foot.
There were 2 strikes, so the R’s argued that he swung (if he had, that’s a K, not an HBP). The 3rd base ump said he held up.
marc w - September 11, 2010
I don't know if anyone knows this..
But you can dish out 7 bucks to watch the all of the AAA playoffs. I’ve been watching this whole series. Totally worth it.
carstensm - September 11, 2010
Smoak noooooooooooo
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
Yeah, what happened to that .800 batting average?
nemo1 - September 11, 2010
He can't hit at Safeco? :(
JY - September 11, 2010
SHUT UP :(
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
Ouch...
Same goes for Mangini? And Ackley too? NOOO!!!!!
nemo1 - September 11, 2010
One must always be prepared for the worst.
MARINERS BASEBALL!
JY - September 11, 2010
Time to be slightly relevant, Mike Wilson.
JY - September 11, 2010
They wanted no part of Wilson.
It’s all down to…Eliezer Alfonzo.
marc w - September 11, 2010
What Would Ed Hardy Do?
JY - September 11, 2010
ADD ANOTHER DRAGON AWWWYEAAAAH
awww, ground out.
marc w - September 11, 2010
So he can't even get to first base then.
JY - September 11, 2010
Playing in Safeco has really inspired them to be like the Mariners.
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
Is that place cursed or something.
Burial ground, hex or what?!?
mont_mariner - September 11, 2010
Anthony Varvaro in the process of walking the world.
marc w - September 11, 2010
I had hoped that he had begin to cure himself of that, but no.
Incidentally I had someone yell at me once for pointing out that Varvaro was no longer walking the world in the AFL.
JY - September 11, 2010
You really shouldn't make jokes about 'walking the world.' I had a grandmother from the world, you know.
marc w - September 11, 2010
Was she confined to a wheelchair?
I am sorry to be so insensitive.
JY - September 11, 2010
Wow. Walk the first two, why not walk another intentionally?
It’s not like it could possibly happen again. Haha.
nemo1 - September 11, 2010
Okay, it worked.
But that was a little scary…
nemo1 - September 11, 2010
Varvaro - sharp slider at 79 - not sure if that was a change to get Recker at 81. Good pitches.
Still no idea where his FBs going.
marc w - September 11, 2010
I think of him as an honorary member of the Ministry of Silly Walks.
JY - September 11, 2010
Never in doubt.
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
All part of the plan with Varvaro.
marc w - September 11, 2010
Tugger!
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
To a lesser extent, Ackley!
JY - September 11, 2010
Bunts!
woo!
msb - September 11, 2010
Damnit Mangini stop being Halman.
JY - September 11, 2010
Blegh
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
Did Mangini just swing at three straight pitches and miss all of them?
Joe Metro - September 11, 2010
Yes
Kawnliee - September 11, 2010
Booooo
Joe Metro - September 11, 2010
Marainiers baseball
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
Recced because I was about to say it anyway.
JY - September 11, 2010
The curse of Safeco lives on!
Coach Owens - September 11, 2010
West Tenn's game is starting soon...
JY - September 11, 2010
With Tenbrink leading off and playing first.
Weird.
JY - September 11, 2010
Speaking of West Tenn, are we ever going to see Josh Fields in the majors?
It’s getting worrisome.
Coach Owens - September 11, 2010
He'll have to stop getting injured, get his mechanics back to normal, and regain his fastball.
JY - September 11, 2010
So no, we're not.
Coach Owens - September 11, 2010
Correct.
JY - September 11, 2010
2008 was not a good draft year for Seattle sports.
Coach Owens - September 11, 2010
Not all of it was bad, it's just that the first pick unequivocally blew.
We got Raben, who is probably a platoon guy but whatever, Hensley who was fairly interesting before his elbow thing of late, and Lorin and Pribanic who were part of the Ian Snell/Jack Wilson deal (TEE HEE), and Tenbrink, who could actually be something that doesn’t suck.
There were other assorted items of interest throughout, like LaFromboise, Shaffer, Kasparek, Stanton, Maurer, and Savastano, not that I’m high on any of them, but they’re at least still on the radar.
JY - September 11, 2010
Is that on Gameday?
nemo1 - September 11, 2010
.
Sure is
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
Thanks!
I’m still figuring this stuff out…
nemo1 - September 11, 2010
Dan Cortes does not look like I thought he would.
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
That is almost word for word what I was in the middle of typing when your comment appeared...
nemo1 - September 11, 2010
Pictures at USSM!
marc w - September 11, 2010 via mobile
Damnit Cortes cut that shit out.
JY - September 11, 2010
Stupid Padres bullpen, being all awesome and shit.
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
Sick of this game.
Joe Metro - September 11, 2010
The Rainiers seem to have adjusted well to this ballpark.
ThundaPC - September 11, 2010
"oh, boy" says Curto.
msb - September 11, 2010
Aw hamburgers
Joe Metro - September 11, 2010
Well this game went downhill fast.
I was holding out a bit of hope for the bottom of the ninth. Not so much anymore.
nemo1 - September 11, 2010
Not the best of starts for West Tenn
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
An inside-the-park home run?
Cripes.
JY - September 11, 2010
Does this "L. Bonilla" suck?
Coach Owens - September 11, 2010
He's an organizational guy.
But I like him because in the last game of the season he played all nine positions.
JY - September 11, 2010
Not a natural CF though.
Came up as a third baseman actually.
JY - September 11, 2010
Does West Tenn not have a decent CF then?
Coach Owens - September 11, 2010
There's Haveman, but he's been on and off the DL recently.
Played last night, and they opted to sit him tonight.
Otherwise it’s been a problem spot all season. McOwen was probably the CF, then he dislocated his shoulder, Lo was not good, Haveman came on, there were some Jeff Dominguez appearances, it was a mess.
JY - September 11, 2010
On Gameday that looks like quite a catch Peguero just made.
Eyeball Kid - September 11, 2010
It also shows that Campana's inside the park homer was in fact, not inside the park.
Guess they don’t have dimensions for AA fields on Gameday.
nemo1 - September 11, 2010
Stupid Padres.
Joe Metro - September 11, 2010
Good news everyone:
the Rainiers weren’t shut out today.
JY - September 11, 2010
And we get another chance to see them tomorrow!
nemo1 - September 11, 2010
How many people were at the game?
Decatur - September 11, 2010
Box says 983
