While this looks like the quite the mismatch, CoolStandings.com has the Mariners playoff odds at 0% and the Red Sox at 1%. So take that, Boston.
Yesterday's game was number 143 on the season. There are just 19 games left. On a marathon scale, Sunday marked mile post 23. We're almost there, everyone! In the meantime we have some tasty Minor League playoff baseball to distract us from that sure-to-be blister, oxygen cramp and aching calf. Why did we decide to do this? This is stupid. Marathons are stupid. Pheidippides died from it. What possesses people to recreate an event that killed a man?
Without Lester on staff, the Red Sox's best starter this season would be Buchholz and he's only been a tad above average. Boston doesn't have any duds in the rotation, but averageness permeates nearly the entirety of it.

I am exactly as excited for this as I was when I discovered a thermos of lukewarm coffee in the living room

Defective thermos?
Matthew - September 13, 2010
Coffee just doesn't stay hot when it's been sitting in the same place for a couple of month and Jose Lopez backwashed a ton.

I think it had been there for a while
Jeff Sullivan - September 13, 2010
FUCK YEAH

At least we'll have some Mariner baseball to keep us occupied during the off-day!

I love the Pheidippides reference!
It is what I point out to anyone that is trying to talk me into doing long distance running.

Probably safer than driving to work.
Janic - September 13, 2010

I no longer have the strength or passion to any M's vs. Red Sox games this season.
You can have Safeco for the next 3 days, you bandwagon fruits. I don’t care. Just don’t make too big of a mess. Enjoy missing the playoffs, too.

*to go to any
Lost the passion to type correctly, as well.

It's ok. They're all lonely anyways.
joof - September 13, 2010
I am expecting very few bandwagon fans as they are not making the playoffs.
Sec 108 - September 13, 2010
I had a grapefruit for breakfast this morning and it wasn't very satisfying so I yelled at it for being a bandwagon fruit
pdb - September 13, 2010
Did you ask it if it was a Grapefruit before 2004?
