Blake Beavan and the Rainiers face Evan MacLane and the Redbirds tonight, beginning at 5:05pm. This series is for all the marbles. There are so many marbles at stake that when Jack Wilson walked over to wish Tacoma good luck, he slipped and broke his leg.
The Rainiers, remember, will be the 'home team' for Game 1 and Game 2, even though they'll be playing in front of a Memphis crowd. The Rainiers will be the home team tonight in the same way that the Mariners will be the home team tonight.

What did the Redbirds do to earn the privilige of this entire series being played in their home park?

They had the foresight not to schedule a huge renovation for immediately after the regular season?
Cheney stadium is kind of rubble-y right now.
marc w - September 14, 2010
Mind you, Memphis built a AAA taj mahal of a stadium and now can't pay for it.
They’re struggling, despite being PCL champs and in the finals to defend it.
marc w - September 14, 2010
So it was a financial decision by the PCL?
Or maybe they didn’t want the finals to be in an MLB stadium?
Thingray - September 14, 2010
The Mariners are home.
Tacoma_Mike - September 14, 2010
Well that answers my question.
I suppose the only other option would have been Everett, or the baseball stadium at UW or some other college. Perhaps a neutral site could have been arranged?
Thingray - September 14, 2010
Everett was rejected by the league (a fair call, I think)
and I just don’t get what a neutral site would do. Why play in, oh, Salt Lake for two games just for shits and giggles? NO ONE would attend, and it would still be a road game for Tacoma.
This is the least terrible move they could make.
marc w - September 14, 2010
Good point.
A neutral site screws everyone. I didn’t think about attendance, I was just thinking about making it fair for both sides (so nobody had the hometown crowd).
Thingray - September 14, 2010
Does anyone know if this is on radio?
Thingray - September 14, 2010
AM 850. You may not get it up where you live...
marc w - September 14, 2010
I get it in the car, and that's what I was curious about.
It’s not a great signal, but I can hear what’s happening.
Thingray - September 14, 2010
Memphis?
I’m boycotting it if the San Francisco Seals aren’t involved.
lemonverbena - September 14, 2010
As Cheney's light towers came from the SF Seals stadium, they're sort of involved?
Or, because we can’t use the SF Seals’ lights, we have to play in Memphis.
marc w - September 14, 2010
Whew.
Joe Metro - September 14, 2010
Am I the only one here?
Joe Metro - September 14, 2010
Smoak dinger!
Eyeball Kid - September 14, 2010
Well even if I am, SMOOOAAAAK!
Joe Metro - September 14, 2010
On the water?
Slurvey - September 14, 2010
Looks like MiLB Game Day has shit the bed...
Joe Metro - September 14, 2010
It does indeed.
Still, radio!
Eyeball Kid - September 14, 2010
Sadly, I am in class.
Joe Metro - September 14, 2010
Halman just got picked off but made it back to second safe.
Eyeball Kid - September 14, 2010
Also put an earphone in one ear and cover it with your hand, they'll never notice.
Eyeball Kid - September 14, 2010
I wish this class was large enough for that.
Unfortunately, this judge is new at teaching and seems eager to prove his worth to the class. This meant a student getting snapped at earlier for having his cell phone out…
MiLB left me on Beavan vs. Descalso at the top of the 3rd. Still 2-1 Tacoma?
Joe Metro - September 14, 2010
Yep.
Here’s a box score, it’s slow but it is at least updating.
Eyeball Kid - September 14, 2010
Thanks!
Joe Metro - September 14, 2010
Smoak just struck out
The stadium played Smoak on the Water afterwards.
Eyeball Kid - September 14, 2010
Winfree with an error that allows the tying run to score.
Eyeball Kid - September 14, 2010
I see Gameday's working again now so I'll stop with the play-by-play type comments.
Eyeball Kid - September 14, 2010
Dingers!
w00tah - September 14, 2010
Tie game again!
Kawnliee - September 14, 2010
Blake Beavan looks a little bit like Ian Snell.
kennerdoloman - September 14, 2010
Uh, no.
I haven’t seen the gameday photos, but…..no.
marc w - September 14, 2010
Hey JY, this Mike Wilson guy is pretty good, maybe we should give him a shot?
Faux - September 14, 2010
You juts want a Wilson to Wilson to Wilson double play...
Maybe we could get Dan to unretire, and have 4 Wilsons on the team…
ambrosia2112 - September 14, 2010
Time for Smoak to smoke a salami.
Too much?
Kawnliee - September 14, 2010
Gross.
kennerdoloman - September 14, 2010
Well if you take it THAT way.
Kawnliee - September 14, 2010
Woohoo!
Eyeball Kid - September 14, 2010
Halman is 3-3 with 3 singles?
What?
lailaihei - September 14, 2010
Chuckie Fick? What?
Faux - September 14, 2010
I thought it said Chuckle Fick.
I chuckled.
kennerdoloman - September 14, 2010
Awww, Tuglett doesn't look 12. That's a letdown.
Faux - September 14, 2010
Aw, cuntpear.
kennerdoloman - September 14, 2010
Much more exciting than a Mariners game.
Scoring!
SeattExPat - September 14, 2010

Eyeball Kid - September 14, 2010
Win!
Kawnliee - September 14, 2010
Rainiers win!
AWWWWWWWWWWW YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHH
Eyeball Kid - September 14, 2010
I'm sad I missed this thread
This was a tough game for the R’s both because they had a righthander on the mound, and because Beavan’s been…y’know, shitty since they acquired him. Huge win, and a bizarrely great performance by Andy Baldwin. He still may get the call to start game 5, but that was impressive relief work.
I’m glad MacLane didn’t continue to inexplicably excel against Tacoma. He’s just not that good. I now know what it feels like to beat Doug Fister.
