I was reading recently that Brandon Inge is unhappy now that Detroit signed Prince because it will now relegate him to a bench role with Cabrera likely taking over 3B. Inge had a very similar year to Chone Figgins last year batting 197 over the course of 269 AB whereas Figgins batted 188 over 288 AB. With both likely playing bench roles this year. I was curious who you think will likely have a better season.

In the future...
Do you think you could punctuate a batting average correctly? .197 and .188, please.
I see that you haven't been around LL very much (at least as a poster)
so you may not know that we as a general community don’t value batting average very highly as far as a way to evaluate players. Maybe next time dig in a little deeper and find some better stats (baseball-reference is a great place to look); learn about and pay attention to things like WAR and, to a lesser extent, OPS – those will tell you a lot more about a player’s skill than BA will.
Looking at the numbers, didnt realize that Inge’s WAR (-0.6) was lower than Figgins (-0.5) last year. Plus Inge had a lower RAR (Runs Above Replacement Level) at -0.6 to -0.5. I would think Figgins’ speed and ability to pinch run would make him a higher value than Inge, and the RAR reflects that.
Inge had a -8 oWAR (Offensive WAR) to Figgins’ -1. Plus Inge’s dWAR (Defensive WAR) was at 0.2 to Figgins’ 0.5.
Looking deeper into these two players, I guess that I would much rather have Figgins than Inge as a player.
But Inge’s 5.5M to Figgins’ 9.5M looks SO much better

oops
meant Inge’s WAR was HIGHER than Figgins…
tkballer22 - January 28, 2012
You were right the first time.
-0.5 is higher than -0.6
njd.aitken - January 28, 2012
Are you looking at Baseball Reference?
On Fangraphs, Figgins was -1.2 WAR, while Inge was only -0.4.

Can Inge still catch?
WhyGodWhy - January 28, 2012
Chone Figgins
I wonder if he can play the Water Engineer Distributor position. It was one that I played in high school.

Was there a meaning to the missing "u" from your screenname?
CapSea - January 28, 2012
No.
I simply missed it as I was waving my finger across the keyboard.
qwertyiopasdfghjklzxcvbnm - January 28, 2012
Oh, that's too bad. I was hoping there was some joke hidden in there.
Thanks for answering.

I was hoping this was a question about who would have a better season on the next DWTS
d0nkey - January 31, 2012
This question is driving me to drink.
It’s only Tuesday you jerk.
Vogelscheuche - January 31, 2012
$2 Tuesday!
Just kidding. Apparently my local haunt just changed it to $3 Tuesday. Still acceptable for all beers and wells all day, though!

I am an optimist.
I still have a feeling that Figgins can be a serviceable player this upcoming season. His BABIP was horrible last season.
TheFranchise78 - February 4, 2012
So was his LD%
