Montero finished signing my bat and I thanked him. As I walked out the terrace club doors, I noticed the guard then put his hand on my left shoulder as if he were guiding me. I then asked “I’m really out because of that? I didn’t hit anyone, I didn’t cuss, nothing.”
He said it was a form of harassment, and with it being a family event and a Sunday no less, it wouldn’t be tollerated. Another guard and some other non-security staff then took me into a hallway and took down my name. I then asked “Why, am I being arrested now too?” And they said no that it was simply protocol for none-alcohol related incidents like this.
And in all seriousness, you and the other dude catching were showing great patience with the kids who 3-hopped the ball to you and the dudes trying to impress their girls with their 58 mph fastball that was two feet high.
I didn’t even know they took high schoolers to help out at fanfest. But when my team coach told me that he recommended me to the Mariners, I was like sign me up! But meeting Vargas and League made it a special experience.
There was an article about League in our local paper last season.
The press here likes to keep tabs on all of the local athletes. Anyways, I found out that he went to a certain local high school, which I thought was pretty amusing. St. Louis is known for having good baseball teams, but it’s also got a bit of a reputation (earned or not) for being the school that parents send their kids to after they get kicked out of the more prestigious private schools.
Also, the classrooms are covered with signs instructing all students to “become St. Louis men”.
My first fanshot.
So don’t be hating….

Haters gonna hate though
WhyGodWhy - January 29, 2012
Glad you had a good time.
I was kicked out this afternoon, after I asked Montero to put on my bat “Who needs Pujols when you’ve found Jesus?”
I might seriously be done with the M’s.
MontpikeMike - January 29, 2012
Oh no.

Final nail blah blah coffin blah blah blah blah fanhood.
Cascadian Man - January 29, 2012
Are you implying you've heard this story before?
MontpikeMike - January 29, 2012
It strains the credibility meter to believe that a person would be ejected for FanFest for that request alone.
Matthew - January 29, 2012
I thought the guard was joking at first.

Wait, you weren't joking?
Wow, that sucks man. I would be pretty mad.
EthanN - January 30, 2012
Harassment? That's...bizarre
While that’s fucked up, my question is, did he actually sign it “Who Needs Pujols when you’ve found Jesus?”
SuperDopaLiciousFunkStar - January 30, 2012 via mobile
Who was being harassed?
Montero, because you asked him to sign something other than just his name?
The other families, because they have trouble with the name Jesus?
Bizarre is a good word for it.
J0SER - January 30, 2012
What the hell... this is real?
CapSea - January 30, 2012
Safeco Field staff!
Goose - January 30, 2012
The team has investigated the matter and there is no record of this being true
Explain yourself, please.
Jeff Sullivan - January 30, 2012
I'd be writing some letters of complaints over that.
That’s absolutely ridiculous that you’d be kicked out for that. I’d be furious.
Ride the Apocalypse - January 29, 2012
I wonder what they did for LaHair puns
Kermit. - January 30, 2012
Jay Buhner shaved their hair. All of it.
Bearskin Rugburn - January 30, 2012
Nice!
League is pretty awesome. He signed some stuff for me and my step son before a game we went to last year.
Aussie Mariner - January 29, 2012
Did he throw you the heater?
twelveoutof10 - January 29, 2012
luckily he didn't.
98 mile per hour sinker…..don’t think i could catch that
Jonathan Brakke - January 29, 2012
But then you'd probably have been signed to catch for the Mariners
Matthew - January 29, 2012
I walked by the Pen once.
And in all seriousness, you and the other dude catching were showing great patience with the kids who 3-hopped the ball to you and the dudes trying to impress their girls with their 58 mph fastball that was two feet high.
There was quite the line for that.
MontpikeMike - January 29, 2012
I was more than happy to do it.
I didn’t even know they took high schoolers to help out at fanfest. But when my team coach told me that he recommended me to the Mariners, I was like sign me up! But meeting Vargas and League made it a special experience.
Jonathan Brakke - January 29, 2012
That's really cool. Good for you.
wazzu93 - January 29, 2012
I tried to sign up as a 25-year old dude who has rec-league catching reps, but I was denied.
Bummer city.
